As a stem cell biologist, I fully agree with the importance of our mental and physical health. Chronic stress can impact our sleep which leads to changes in the activity of our brains and less new neurons in the hippocampus which is important for memories (I made a video about that). Chronic stress can also shorten the ends of our chromosomes (called telomeres) which might lead to cancer. Moreover, interventions (a healthy diet, physical exercise, meditation) might increase these DNA ends to some degree. So yeah we need to take care of our physical and mental health!

I lost my husband of 25 yrs to colon cancer 7 days before Xmas in 2019. Even though I’m a pretty balanced person and I have an amazing emotional support group, I swear, I felt like everything in the world was going on with me physically most of 2020. I went to the doctor and probably had every test known to man, EKG, blood, etc. Each and every time, I was cool. After speaking with my doctor, who is freaking amazing, he really was sympathetic. I realized I was really missing my husband and mixed with the whole pandemic, I was depressed. Which was also making me feel physically “icky”. Now, 2021 is a much better year and I’m back to my normal self. It was quite the learning experience though. Mental health can definitely be felt physically. However, always go to your doctor just to make sure that there is nothing else going on. Even it’s just for peace of mind.

Your mind is amazing. I had an episode when at the thought of losing my father in the 90’s, I started to vomit constantly for 5 days, then I couldn’t sleep on my bed, then my voice stopped working for two weeks. I swore I was coming down with something, but then I had an idea to visit my dad after his 2nd heart bypass surgery. After seeing him recover, slowly I began to bounce back. My voice came back, I was able to eat a meal without worrying about losing it, and finally I was able to sleep on my bed again. Dr. Mike is correct when he said emotion plays a part in developing pains.

Lol This is something I didn't believe in either because my periods didn't sync with either my mom or my sister and we live together. BUT in college both my friend and I had periods during the same time, give or take a day and we didn't room together. It changed after college. Now, a year of quarantining with my family, my sister's and my cycle is synced. Don't know why it happens though

One of my high school maths teachers developed an eye twitch over the year with my maths class. We were the class made up of kids with learning disabilities and kids who's parents didn't care about them and many kids with both. He started out with a mild twitch, which over the course of the year developed into a spasm of fury taking over half his face. When I worked at KFC a few years later, he drove through the drive through as a taxi driver. I think we broke him.

I had neck lipo and it helped my snoring a lot; I had it done because I felt “ugly” with it and also during summer I tend to swear a lot so I decided to go have it done it was painless like a 1/10 pain and I’m so happy with the results

They told me that the new theory which seems to have more grounding in research is that cranberry juice seems to be more preventative for UTIs as it somehow makes the ureters less adhesive to bacteria, at least that’s the theory behind why some newer data suggests efficacy for it.

And I'm just like, "....I was diagnosed with depression 8 years ago. You really haven't understood what I deal with all this time? Seriously?"
I know people don't understand depression. They just think its people being weak or lazy. But Covid really put it into perspective for a lot of people and hopefully it sticks with them (the understanding not the depression, I wouldn't wish that on anyone).

This one is for Tristan: As someone who has experienced skin-peeling chemical burns several times a week for about a year, my burns also caused a lack of feeling throughout the entirety of the both of my hands. One of my old managers who is now a nurse had told me that I had burnt my nerve endings off. I could touch hot things without feeling the burning. I lost my husband of 25 yrs to colon cancer 7 days before Xmas in 2019. Even though I’m a pretty balanced person and I have an amazing emotional support group, I swear, I felt like everything in the world was going on with me physically most of 2020. I went to the doctor and probably had every test known to man, EKG, blood, etc. Each and every time, I was cool. After speaking with my doctor, who is freaking amazing, he really was sympathetic. I realized I was really missing my husband and mixed with the whole pandemic, I was depressed. Which was also making me feel physically “icky”. Now, 2021 is a much better year and I’m back to my normal self. It was quite the learning experience though. Mental health can definitely be felt physically. However, always go to your doctor just to make sure that there is nothing else going on. Even it’s just for peace of mind.

I had an episode when at the thought of losing my father in the 90’s, I started to vomit constantly for 5 days, then I couldn’t sleep on my bed, then my voice stopped working for two weeks. I swore I was coming down with something, but then I had an idea to visit my dad after his 2nd heart bypass surgery. After seeing him recover, slowly I began to bounce back. My voice came back, I was able to eat a meal without worrying about losing it, and finally I was able to sleep on my bed again. One of my high school maths teachers developed an eye twitch over the year with my maths class. We were the class made up of kids with learning disabilities and kids who's parents didn't care about them and many kids with both. As someone with generalized anxiety disorder, I feel like everyone else is as stressed and uncomfortable as I usually am due to the pandemic and IDK how to feel. yikes. Mental Health is important.

And I'm just like, "....I was diagnosed with depression 8 years ago. You really haven't understood what I deal with all this time? Seriously?"
I know people don't understand depression. They just think its people being weak or lazy. But Covid really put it into perspective for a lot of people and hopefully it sticks with them (the understanding not the depression, I wouldn't wish that on anyone).

This one is for Tristan: As someone who has experienced skin-peeling chemical burns several times a week for about a year, my burns also caused a lack of feeling throughout the entirety of the both of my hands. One of my old managers who is now a nurse had told me that I had burnt my nerve endings off. I could touch hot things without feeling the burning. Now my hands are made of callouses and scar tissue, and are probably virtually indrstructable
