OK SO... the 6505+ has more attack and notes and chords sound more clearer, BUT the 6505ii definetly sounds tighter and fuller. as a fan of both this one is tough. I currently own a USA 6505+ with a mesa 412 and I couldn't be any happier although I'm becoming a HUGE fan of the 6505ii. this was my favorite shootout video by far! thanks Kyle 🤟🏼
Now that I think about it, the new 6505 sounds like it's just been hit with post EQ irl. I bet you could actually drop that in a mix with almost no post EQ and get a good sound.
Thank you for the video, Kyle! Another great video in the books. The 6505II is definitely the evolution of the 6505/6505+ amps, showing that PEAVEY is listening to modern music and it's players. The difference might be small, but to my ears, they're huge! They answered all the problems of the 6505+, minus the EL34 proper biasing, which I'm sure some one will figure out a mod for soon enough once it's released. Or even better if PEAVEY's listening, make the amp properly support EL34's (if it's possible of course).
Nailed it.... exactly what you're supposed to hear. Incredible demo. I remember when we used to call differences like this "flea farts", but even regular consumers are able to "see" the fleas farting now because of your great and thorough work. Thanks again!

Man your content is amazing, very good stuff. Dude can you make a video regarding classic OD808 vs TS9. Or maybe huge battle video of all tube screamers in general. That would be great 🙏
I definitely prefer the II over the +. I think it takes everything about the + that makes it good and adds aggression and clarity to it that makes the II great. I like the + for what it is as a recreation of the 5150II but I think the 6505II brings the 6505 series into a little more of its own thing rather than a blatant rebranding of the 5150.
+ all the way. It just sounds more alive to me. II is tight and just feels muffled. Maybe my speakers are bad. It sounds like a + with a blanket over it then you cut holes in the blanket. Sounds a lot like the evh stealth.
The 6505ii sounds a tad bit more aggressive, tighter and clearer. A bit more modern in short. There was not as big of a difference as I thought it would be though! If it will go for the same price as the 6505+ I don't see any reasons not to pick it over the +. If it will be a couple of hundreds more expensive on the other hand, it might not be worth it. I do love the tight and aggressive tone it has though! That small difference in tone really makes it sound more expensive tbh.
the diferences describe imply a change in the circuit (not only transformers) or a very diferent type of 12ax7 in the preamp! 6505II is always more tight and agressive! If you have a 6505 laying around, you can simply cut 3 components out to make it sound morre tight and agressive (R29,R40 and C60)
Great job as usual Kyle ! I’ve been using the 6505+ since 2016 as my main amp both for recording and live gigs and this “new” version is simply awesome. The tone is really good and the revisited voicing is spot on both on the crunch and lead channel (i usually use the crunch channel for rhythm, and the 6505II really does sound more tight and aggressive compared to the 6505+) Quick question, these new models come with the same kind of footswitch as the old ones ? Nothing wrong with the 6505+/5150II footswitch, but the one of the 6505/5150 really needs an update in my opinion

Hey Kyle, I just bought a Peavey 5150II , what do you think versus the 6505 II ? I own a 6505+ USA and it seem more wide in the mids compare to the 5150II. I wonder if the 6505II worth a try ? Thanks man, always great to learn stuff with your videos.
The II has way more balls, clarity, tightness, brightness, and most importantly doesn't have the cocked wah PVC tube mid boost thing going on as the + has. I have the + and you need to leave the mids at 5 and bump the presence to like 9. If you want more upper mids add a smidge of treble and less presence. But I feel it's a one trick pony cause there's a certain way you dial it or else it sounds meh. So yeah the II is sick!
Totally agree. I boost the low mids before distortion and by the time it reaches my amp the presence has to be just barely over 9 or it sounds underwater.
I would love a 6505ii but i have a 5150iii 50 watt 6l6 as well as the el34 50 watt and ordered a 6505+ cheap from guitar center today so i think im set.

which one i prefer seems to depend entirely on the speed of the riff. 6505+ has that meaner midrange, which gets nasally at high speeds. the 6505 II is cleaner and leaner when you get to playing fast, but is kinda thin with slow stuff.

kyle what preamp tubes you running in the 6505 plus ???
Probably 12ax7
UGH....must resist buying another 5150/6505 series amp. BTW...guns on point Kyle 💪🏻
Carbs for the unintentional SWELL
What 20-25w high gain amp heads in ur opinion is great for chugs & metal riffin' that's more on th affordable side???
The PRS MT15 or Marshall DSL20H are both great options. The Prs says 15 watts but it definitely gets loud and proud
@@belligerentamateur thanks brother! 🍻
I do like prs mt15 definitely on my list! Hey if u have alil time check my Six1nine riff challenge vid.
Keep on keeping on brother 🤘🏻
The II !!!!! In line to get a 6505 1992 series
The 6534+ was my favorite amp. The 6505II can also take the EL34. 6505II is a win. I would LOVE to hear a demo with EL34s
The 34+ still is my favourite ❤️ I’ll be buried with mine
Whats the story with this 6505ii? He is the only one reviewing it and Peavey's website doesn't have the 6505ii on it. So is this something custom made or where are it being offered and how did you get one?
In a prior video he explained about how Peavey had sent it to him for an early demo
Announcement should come from Peavey soon. They want to wait til the amps are actually ready to ship to announce them
@@MetalZoned yea well, i asked him on this video and he answered. Thanks for the input Cpt. Obvious.
@@belligerentamateur thank you for the reply, ill keep my eyes open for their release. Think i'd rather have one of those instead of the iconic.
@@MDC249 please look at the time stamp, my reply to you was before his.
When is the 6505II coming out?
Wish I knew
How’s the clean Channel on the II it seems to say in the manual it’s improved
it's exactly the same as the 6505+ and 5150ii. unchanged from those models
@@belligerentamateurweird because the pdf manual says the opposite
@@billy4643 it's referencing the original 5150/6505 circuit when it says improved, not the 6505+ or 6505II
The mids are lower on the II. The only distance I hear,
Do any of your ground lift switches work? (On either amp or on the A/B switch?)
I narrowed it down to my Quad Cortex being plugged into a different power supply causing the issues.
@@belligerentamateur Nice deductive reasoning! I had a similar issue because of my Source Audio EQ2. I didn't know USB and tube amps weren't friends.
Do you think Peavey will release a combo version of this head?
Time will tell...
They're so close in sound I think you could EQ either to get the same sound as the other.
Almost, but not quite. I tried to do this, and the 6505II was missing some of the mid frequencies that the + has, no matter how you EQ it.
6505 II takes the win for me.
Are they made in the US or are they still made in China?
Overall the II just takes the cake for me. Huge and a bit more aggressive/tight, not as much mid honk as the + either. Both are killer but my cash is on the II.
Awesome as always.
Agreed on the aggression!
Both killer!
6505+ sounds a bit boxier. they both sound good hi-gain though
Can’t find a single article online about the 6505 II. When will Peavey release this amp?
Wish I could give you an answer man, but it's all dependant on when they get their tube order in so the amps can start shipping. They don't want to announce until they start to ship to dealers.
Any possibility of a 6534 video anytime soon?
Man I'd love to. Gotta find one first though!
6505 + 👌
The 6505 II reminds me of my Mesa Boogie Triple Rec…might be the cab 😀. 6505+ is better to me. Definitely cut through the mix better.
the II sounds more scoopy and "justice for ally"the + sounds like more snarl and probably better in the mix
