You are quickly becoming one of my most frequented channels! Good work
Appreciated!!
Both sound great..I think the 6505+ has a fuller warmer tone..hard to beat a Mississippi made 6505+
Yea buddy…. Mine is a 2012 model +…. Maybe last year of the meridians….
@@wrenchhead6840 Chauvinistic crap. The chinese ones are just as good.
Thanks kb , both great amps drawing objective straws, i like the new changes overall. Nice job peavey, great job KB
Honestly I would be over the moon happy with either of these classic metal amps 🤘
That's the spirit
i own a 6505+ i wouldn't trade it for a II, they're both really good. In a mix the + cuts through nicely. But alone I think the II sounds better.
They both sound fantastic. I must say the new one is a welcomed change.
Just found your channel. Great work. Also love the off the cuff humor.
OK SO... the 6505+ has more attack and notes and chords sound more clearer, BUT the 6505ii definetly sounds tighter and fuller. as a fan of both this one is tough. I currently own a USA 6505+ with a mesa 412 and I couldn't be any happier although I'm becoming a HUGE fan of the 6505ii. this was my favorite shootout video by far! thanks Kyle 🤟🏼
6505+ for what you just stated.
Thank you, my man
Yea man…. I have a 2012 USA model + and i love it to death
@@wrenchhead6840 i second this, early american 6505+ is the ballz
great review dude. still dig the + more than the II. My personal preference, both are great sounding amps.
I had this video on a 2nd monitor and wasn't really watching it, just listening, and *every time* I heard something I really liked and looked up at the video, it was the 6505 II.
I think that tells me everything I need to know. I've always been more partial to the OG 5150's though, so it looks like I'll be getting a 6505 1992 Original when it comes out. Nice!
Great job as usual Kyle !
I’ve been using the 6505+ since 2016 as my main amp both for recording and live gigs and this “new” version is simply awesome. The tone is really good and the revisited voicing is spot on both on the crunch and lead channel (i usually use the crunch channel for rhythm, and the 6505II really does sound more tight and aggressive compared to the 6505+)
Quick question, these new models come with the same kind of footswitch as the old ones ? Nothing wrong with the 6505+/5150II footswitch, but the one of the 6505/5150 really needs an update in my opinion
Nice. Didn’t realize that was a traditional cab, almost looked like the standard at first. Thanks for noting.
The II definitely does have more clarity and aggression. It also has my vote.
_I honestly loved the Peavey 6505+ yet the new version sounds pretty tight!_
2022 - year of the Bull
Thank you for the video, Kyle! Another great video in the books. The 6505II is definitely the evolution of the 6505/6505+ amps, showing that PEAVEY is listening to modern music and it's players. The difference might be small, but to my ears, they're huge! They answered all the problems of the 6505+, minus the EL34 proper biasing, which I'm sure some one will figure out a mod for soon enough once it's released. Or even better if PEAVEY's listening, make the amp properly support EL34's (if it's possible of course).
Same bias mod applies to this as would the 6505+. Swap out a resistor to broaden the range of the bias and done.
@@belligerentamateur then there it is 🤘🏻
I like both. still prefer the +. it was interesting how much the tone dials kept changing my opinion. one minute I like the 2 more then you adjusted the dials on the + and liked it again. I'd be happy with either. Already have a regular 6505
Amazing comparison! I have a combo of 6505+ and sounds killer . 6505 ll is also outstanding, very clear. Both amps rip for sure 🖤🤟🖤
Kyle, you are hilarious! Love the channel.
Appreciate ya
Its the plus for me. Great Vid!
Already have a 6505+ and I’ll definitely get a 6505ii I can tell the eq points were adjusted for EL34’s so that’s what’s goin in if and when I get it
Awesome video man
I have a 6505+ and i run a boss EQ7. The amp is as versatile as id like, from SRV tone to six feet under tone, to pantera, ozzy, its all thanks to peavey. Been playing since 98 and im more of a pantera / sfu tone searcher. This nails it, with a boss eq7.
Nailed it.... exactly what you're supposed to hear. Incredible demo. I remember when we used to call differences like this "flea farts", but even regular consumers are able to "see" the fleas farting now because of your great and thorough work. Thanks again!
High praise, thanks John!
Im glad to see you doing the demos with the Duality cause that's what I will be using on it. Although I'm not going for the 6505ii but just the 6505 1992 or whatever
I'm very curious to see the changes to tone this will make to the new 6505
Man your content is amazing, very good stuff. Dude can you make a video regarding classic OD808 vs TS9. Or maybe huge battle video of all tube screamers in general. That would be great 🙏
Thanks man! Maybe eventually I can go down that road. Could be interesting!
@@belligerentamateur i am buying a TS and I'm kinda split between OD808 and OD9/TS9 for boosting. Hard to find apples to apples comparison 🤔
Now that I think about it, the new 6505 sounds like it's just been hit with post EQ irl.
I bet you could actually drop that in a mix with almost no post EQ and get a good sound.
I’ve had both the 6505+ and the 5150II. I have the 6505II now. I personally think it’s a cleaned up version of the +, but all 3 have their own original sounds, which may have alot to do with technology, and age..
I definitely prefer the II over the +. I think it takes everything about the + that makes it good and adds aggression and clarity to it that makes the II great. I like the + for what it is as a recreation of the 5150II but I think the 6505II brings the 6505 series into a little more of its own thing rather than a blatant rebranding of the 5150.
Kyle, excellent video as always!
I am wondering if I could trouble you for some technical advice?
I have lately been seeing and reading a bit of contradictory info about the 6505+ effects loop, and am a bit confused.
Some say it is a true serial connection, but some sound still comes through when the loop jacks are engaged but the chain is broken, without the 6505+ foot switch connected.
So to keep it simple for you, can you please explain the correct way to use the effects loop of the amp, whether it is with or without the foot switch? And could you tell me if it is proper to be using stomp boxes in the loop, or only line level rack effects?
Hey Kyle, I just bought a Peavey 5150II , what do you think versus the 6505 II ? I own a 6505+ USA and it seem more wide in the mids compare to the 5150II. I wonder if the 6505II worth a try ? Thanks man, always great to learn stuff with your videos.
Maaan that 6505ii like all the other variance kicks ass!
The amp I preferred depended how how you dialed them. I would be happy with either though.
Great video man. What size JBL monitors are you using and do you like them. I have the 305p mk2 monitors which are awesome. Thanks
Hi Kyle, just a question. Would i be able to do amp switching with example an helix via 4cm on the 6505+? Sorry i dont have much experience with using amp heads. Thanks!
I have owned 2 of the 6505+ model and for the lead channel I just dont see much room for improvement the one thing id like more of is the low end punch I get out of my dual rec I wonder in the room if the 6505ii has more of the punch feel
The 6505ii sounds a tad bit more aggressive, tighter and clearer. A bit more modern in short. There was not as big of a difference as I thought it would be though! If it will go for the same price as the 6505+ I don't see any reasons not to pick it over the +. If it will be a couple of hundreds more expensive on the other hand, it might not be worth it. I do love the tight and aggressive tone it has though! That small difference in tone really makes it sound more expensive tbh.
+ all the way. It just sounds more alive to me. II is tight and just feels muffled. Maybe my speakers are bad. It sounds like a + with a blanket over it then you cut holes in the blanket. Sounds a lot like the evh stealth.
woah its crazy hows much better the 6505 ii is in lower tunings, with focus and aggression, can imagine its awesome for meshuggah type riffing
On this one too I prefer the II. Kyle has just created an even larger waiting list! They should just sell some of these on discount unloaded (no tubes) if that's all they're waiting for. Obviously they could still play-test them before shipping and then sell them bare. Many of us already have some spare sets and would love the cheaper price.
I wish all amps had the option of being sold without tubes. It’s just nice to be able to choose your own
damn they do have their own character ... loving the aggressiveness of the ii ! but man I have the 6505+ so I am biased lol
My vote goes to the 6505-2🤟🏻I like the thickness of this one way better!
Dude did you try switching the ground switch on the back panel? Anyway I know the difference transformers make especially with all Mercury Magnetics. Also RIP Patrick at Mercury Magnetics as he passed away this past Thursday. 💔
How do you feel about the upper mids?
kyle what preamp tubes you running in the 6505 plus ???
Thanks for the comparison Kyle.
In one part i kinda dig the tighter ii but somehow i kinda miss the + mids.
Oh man decision decision.
Kyle wass Up lol 😆Iam on a roll watching U vids bud Thanks 😂😈🤘💥
I liked the palms on the ii more
Living a dream Kyle
Thanks for making this! Recently acquired my first 6505+ and have been curious as to how it stacks up against the newest rendition
They both rip
Agreed! The 5150 was my first tube amp and is what I look up to when it comes to tube amp tones. That there Peavey life (hope to give an EVH 5150 III a try someday.
Hi man, do you think i can do channel switching on the peavey 6505+ using a helix 4cable method?
Just purchased a 6505+
I am a little late to the Peavey party 😃
Thanks for doing these comparison video's, I know it takes a lot of time, money and patience.
It was really helpful in choosing which amp to buy :)
Why did you buy the 6505+ instead of the 6505II? I thought they were discontinued and I found a 6505+ new, and I don’t know if I should buy it or just go for the II
@@Ddjram I bought a used one from reverb. Mainly because it was in great condition for it's age, and of course it was half the price of a new one.
If you put it that way… make sense lol. Thank you.
More people are using EL34s in their Peaveys then ever. I’d like to see these compared to the 6534+.
I would love a 6505ii but i have a 5150iii 50 watt 6l6 as well as the el34 50 watt and ordered a 6505+ cheap from guitar center today so i think im set.
So when do we get the 6505mkii
My other guitarist In my band has the + and the American grime sits well in the mix with my mid pushed Marshall DSL 100HR! American and British tone sit well together apparently! 🤷♂️🤣
Exactly Kyle the 6505 II seems more aggressive to me even if it’s not obvious I can hear a difference…
I agree!
cool video, Like 6505+ a little more!
The winner of this is whoever has either one. Both are great.
Kyle, see if you can get your hands on a Red Seven leviathan. I'd love to see your take on it.
I'd love to try one too!
I do NOT miss that buzz noise. Why I sold my 6505
UGH....must resist buying another 5150/6505 series amp. BTW...guns on point Kyle 💪🏻
Carbs for the unintentional SWELL
I have the + it gets muddy and needs a drive pedal to tighten it up.
the diferences describe imply a change in the circuit (not only transformers) or a very diferent type of 12ax7 in the preamp! 6505II is always more tight and agressive!
If you have a 6505 laying around, you can simply cut 3 components out to make it sound morre tight and agressive (R29,R40 and C60)
Isn’t that specifically just for the combo though. 🤔
@@willchug nop! i'm talkinh about teh original 5150/6505 head
The II has way more balls, clarity, tightness, brightness, and most importantly doesn't have the cocked wah PVC tube mid boost thing going on as the + has. I have the + and you need to leave the mids at 5 and bump the presence to like 9. If you want more upper mids add a smidge of treble and less presence. But I feel it's a one trick pony cause there's a certain way you dial it or else it sounds meh. So yeah the II is sick!
Totally agree. I boost the low mids before distortion and by the time it reaches my amp the presence has to be just barely over 9 or it sounds underwater.
Both killer!
which one i prefer seems to depend entirely on the speed of the riff. 6505+ has that meaner midrange, which gets nasally at high speeds. the 6505 II is cleaner and leaner when you get to playing fast, but is kinda thin with slow stuff.
Agreed with that assessment. They're just different enough to possibly excel at different things.
Real curious how the 6505II sounds compared to a 5153 Stealth
You'll find out soon.
The 6534+ was my favorite amp. The 6505II can also take the EL34. 6505II is a win. I would LOVE to hear a demo with EL34s
The 34+ still is my favourite ❤️ I’ll be buried with mine
Can’t find a single article online about the 6505 II. When will Peavey release this amp?
Wish I could give you an answer man, but it's all dependant on when they get their tube order in so the amps can start shipping. They don't want to announce until they start to ship to dealers.
The II !!!!! In line to get a 6505 1992 series
Hi excellent demo man love it!!!
I've the EVH 5150 III. 50w and really like it but for a more 90's EV tone do you suggest me waiting the 6505II or the EVH 5150 iconic ?
Thanks.
Appreciate it man! It's really up to your personal taste. If you like th ePeavey Mids, go Peavey. If you like a more relaxed midrange but still want the 5150 thing, go Iconic.
@@belligerentamateur thanks a lot for the reply man. You made a fantastic job testing all those amps and i saw all you vids Lol ...
Yes i understand EVH is more High mids focused than Peavey that right. Now i want a 5150 but expensive for an used amp and for me difficult to found a good one.
Ok but now with your great experience with all those Van Halen Amps sincerely do you suggest me to wait the New 6505II vs 6505+? Thanks.
Idk i personally like the older because of the mids i actually had mine moded back to the original 5150 lead channel and moded the mids because i love mids if i want a scooped tone ill go for a dual rec
A 6505+ with a maxon 808 wax the quintessential metalcore rig. With EMG loaded ESP eclipse on drop c was not just mine but 99% of metalcore rigs in the the early 2000’s That was my first touring rig growing up for god knows how long
Instead of trying to match both to the same EXACT tone isn’t as effective as using eaches own nuanced strengths
Overall the II just takes the cake for me. Huge and a bit more aggressive/tight, not as much mid honk as the + either. Both are killer but my cash is on the II.
Awesome as always.
Agreed on the aggression!
Kyyyyyleeee brutha i dont think phycically match the resonance and precense pots because they changed the circuit and on the new ones ( i heard) the changes are proggresive and on the older ones all the changes happens from 7to 10 am i wrong?
You are incorrect, they're identical.
Hey kyle if the price difference between the amps is over 600 bucks would you still go with the 6505 ii over a super clean used peavey 6505+ for much cheaper?
I would def go used in pretty much any scenario if the price difference was that steep
The 6505 II reminds me of my Mesa Boogie Triple Rec…might be the cab 😀. 6505+ is better to me. Definitely cut through the mix better.
My biggest question is wether the II will sound that good 15 years later like the plus ;)
Great video
Why wouldn't it?
@@belligerentamateur China
6505 II for the win
Do you think Peavey will release a combo version of this head?
Time will tell...
When does the 6505 II become available?
There's a website that says these will ship by July 20th so I assume they'll be out by then
the II sounds more scoopy and "justice for ally"the + sounds like more snarl and probably better in the mix
The II definitely sounds more “in your face” so to speak.
Both amps sound awesome to me. You can't really dial two different amps to the same numbers on the face plate and call that equal parameters with each othe, which I know you already know that. It's still a cool comparison though. You could take either one of those amps and melt paint.
Most of my video was dialing different settings to match each other sonically.
Wow, I did not know there was a 6505 II. I thought the + was the 2
+ for the thickness.
Do any of your ground lift switches work? (On either amp or on the A/B switch?)
I narrowed it down to my Quad Cortex being plugged into a different power supply causing the issues.
@@belligerentamateur Nice deductive reasoning! I had a similar issue because of my Source Audio EQ2. I didn't know USB and tube amps weren't friends.
The mids are lower on the II. The only distance I hear,
I have the American made peavey 6505 plus its killer.
Is the never 6505 II made in America or china?
When does the new 6505 2 come out?
As soon as the tubes come in!
10:50 Feathers by Coheed!
Why wouldn’t they update the clean channel!!!! They would sell so many more of these heads
What 20-25w high gain amp heads in ur opinion is great for chugs & metal riffin' that's more on th affordable side???

6505+ sounds a bit boxier. they both sound good hi-gain though
I will get anyone of them and be happy.
Whats the story with this 6505ii? He is the only one reviewing it and Peavey's website doesn't have the 6505ii on it. So is this something custom made or where are it being offered and how did you get one?
