How someone who writes a soul-touching piece like this can not be named in the same breath as the greatest composers of history, just because he wrote it for a video game rather than a king's court, baffles my mind. It's still one of the greatest pieces of music humanity has produced. Christopher Tin is a genius.

This song was originally written long ago by a Jewish Israelite, translated and sung in Swahili, a widespread African language, rewritten by a Chinese man living in the United States using European techniques, sung by a choir and played by an orchestra of varying people, inspired by one of the largest and most influential religions in the world. This song is more than just an _example_ of humanity and its vastness, but rather a living projection of it, written in musical form.

    • @GD-ft6qd

Technically Christianity came from Jewdaism when really Christianity just believe in the fullfilment of the early prophecy about what christian people believe is a person who is Jesus who was born at basically at the year zero. In other words its as if all Chirstians believe is that it is 2016 AD (which it is) if you know what i mean.

Also, Swahili came to be mostly because of the Christian Missionaries that needed a common language to preach. So, it would be quite complicated to have people looking like Swahili ;)

    Lyrics:
    Baba yetu, Yetu uliye
    Mbinguni yetu, Yetu amina!
    Baba yetu Yetu uliye
    M jina lako e litukuzwe.
    Utupe leo chakula chetu
    Tunachohitaji utusamehe
    Makosa yetu, hey!
    Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe
    Waliotukosea usitutie
    Katika majaribu, lakini
Utuokoe, na yule, muovu e milele!
    Ufalme wako ufike utakalo
    Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni. Amina.
    Translation:
    Our Father, who art
    in Heaven. Amen!
    Our Father,
    Hallowed be thy name.
Give us this day our daily bread,
    Forgive us of
    our trespasses
    As we forgive others
    Who trespass against us
Let us not fall in temptation, but
deliver us from the evil one forever.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
On Earth as it is in Heaven. Amen.

That's a very simple thing that you can do yourself. You can go into the game files and put Baba Yetu where you want it. Rename the file that was already there (you can just add a number to the end or something), and name the song you want to be played in it's place the same. For example if you wanna replace Civ 6 theme with Baba Yetu you rename the Civ 6 theme to "Civ 6 theme1" or whatever it is and name Baba Yetu "Civ 6 theme".
I believe you also have to make sure they are the same file type as the original.

The origin of the language Swahili is Tanzania. At its roots, it is a blend of Bantu ethnic language with few words borrowed from Arabic language. Emerged during the Arab trade era with the Bantu people, by then in Tanganyika (Tanzania mainland currently) and coastal people including Zanzibar (Tanzania island) . It has become one of the unifying languages among Africans spreading vastly within the East African region, with high enthusiasm towards the Southern African countries. It is projected to be a continental language in the near future. It is so pleasing to the ear, go listen to trending songs from Tanzania. You surely will appreciate it even better.

My lord, this was amazing! You can just see AND feel the pure joy of the choir and band while performing, they clearly love the song as much as we do. All that, matched by Chris Tin's conducting, as you see him shine as bright and happy as ever. Fantastic!

I simply cannot stop myself from tears when I listen to this marvelous song. Every single version is beautiful. You can hear the sweetness of the mixture of humanity coming together in every note.

This is probably my favorite version of the song. Lead singer's voice just vibes with me for some reason and all the instruments are really clear

In sixty seven years I've never heard anything more beautiful. Links human existence to one thirty three year timeline. In my opinion this composition was from divine inspiration.

I'm actually really glad they let this song rest in peace with Civ IV rather than dragging it out and remaking it for every other game. It's better this way and it will live forever in Civ IV's menus.

Can anyone argue that Civ IV didn't have the best title music?

      Yeah. Civ VI will.
EDIT: Skyrim was pretty good too. Not saying it's the BEST, but it was quite outstanding.

I certainly can't argue that Knuf. I think this is one of the best songs EVER, let alone in the Civ franchise lol.

My wife and I were in a hospital room in Boston with our new baby daughter Georgia, about one hour old at the time, when this was filmed. As a Civ fan, dad, and human, that causes me to be very happy.
