I'm glad that someone besides myself has realized that the multiple playable pilots with ships of different stat spreads is a pretty neat concept. I personally think this concept should return in a future Star Fox game with similar fighter designs and much better gameplay & controls.
@@Jetter06, I'm also really glad you decided to include the stuff that Starlink: Battle for Atlas added for Star Fox in your tier list. I feel like no one talks about Starlink: Battle for Atlas anymore. Plus, I'm thinking of(eventually) doing a challenge run of the game using only the Star Fox content as much as humanly possible, including the Star Fox DLC stuff.
I would love to see a Starfox Adventures 2, with Zelda now doing his Open World (Open Air) gameplay. Starfox could take on the old Zelda (Starfox Adventures Formula) and increase the gameplay in a way of Dark Souls does. The adultness of Assault and A Fox in Space thrown in and also a lot of Arwing sections... man that would be the dream.
FOR REAL OMG, i wish they would go back, esspecially since open zelda is now the norm which sucks ( open zelda isnt bad, but the two games we have dont really feel like full blown zelda games, but totk is a step in the right direction )
I agree that Assault is the top Star fox game I felt fox's pain of having to shoot down General Pepper's ship and the cutscene between fox and wolf afterwards will always be my favorite cutscene
its always nice to look at tier list videos with relatively unpopular opinions, both because it can be nice to get a different perspective on games that can help you to better appreciate them, but also, and in the case of me with this video, it can be nice to see someone else voice your own unpopular opinions. I love Zero and Assault, so it was nice hearing someone praise these games that youtube at large seems to regard with either hate or indifference. I also think it says something about the series that only a single mainline entry made it below A tier. Also, only tangentially related, its been great to see a bunch of games take the mechanics of 2 and work them into other games, but I'd also love to see them incorporate the characters too, I think Miyu has my favorite design in the series and it'd be nice to see her and Fay back in some sort of Assault follow up
I love your videos, man, but the loud sound effects with almost every jump cut get a bit grating and make some of your videos a bit hard to watch/listen to. Besides that, I love seeing someone go as in-depth as you go. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! that means the world to me!! also the sound effects are loud on your end? I always make sure to put them at 1/5th to 1/10th the volume of my own commentary, Ill have to look more into this to make sure there hasn't been an issue with sound effects going way above what they were suppose to
Honestly, from all the Tier Lists I have seen, this one about StarFox is maybe the first one I can agree in every position. Ever since I met StarFox I genuinely fell in love with it. And it's crazy how this list encapsules perfectly the feelings I also have. Command as the worst is accurate. While I also love the idea of multiple pilots with different specs (which is something I always liked for variety) and the gameplay still feels frenetic along that for a DS it has amazing graphics, the story is so horrendous that did enough to dig its own grave. Game & Watch? I honestly didn't knew that existed, but that it's better than Command makes me laugh unironically. Super Weekend does its job as a competitive version. Guard was a nice extra and was very creative but doesn't bring that emotion like it's main partner. Dinosaur Planet, for what was rescued, looks pretty good and with a thrilling story. No wonder some love it more. The original Star Fox started everything and gathered us all here. For it's time it was mind-blowing and worth it. 64 is a must-play. But I agree it hasn't aged well in certain parts. Atlas was curious but exciting. The fact that they made an exclusive story using StarFox was so wild and so appreciated. 64 3D enhanced everything and was a better experience personally. Star Fox 2 is an INSANITY. To think that level of gameplay was possibly in a SNES and that finally was available after so long is crazy but splendid. Now, something I love about the Top 3, is that, for their time, they were heavily criticized, but now they're seen with not only better eyes, also with the total appreciation they always deserved. Zero is so great. The graphics, the details, the design, the music. Even the controls, when you get used to it, feel so immersive and real, as if you were inside the StarFox universe. Adventures is AMAZING. It proved that different doesn't mean bad. The gameplay is challenging and rewarding; the story manages to be exciting and mysterious; and the style it shows is simply majestuous and fitting for the prehistoric and magical elements it holds. Also that it presented us Krystal. Assault. Assault is PEAK. Assault is my favorite StarFox game ever. Basically took everything from past games and enhanced them to the limit. The story feels like the Ultimate fight for their world at every moment and I always feel so excited and pumped up. The dialogues, design, characters, everything feels like a much more mature version of themselves and in the best way. The gameplay is the most enjoyable and outstanding in all their forms, and in multiplayer is such a wonderful experience. And the story, totally epic. Everyone is important here. The way they interact with each other feels so natural, and the progress is so rewarding. So much iconic moments in the franchise come from this game, like the scene of Fox, Krystal and Tricky. My favorite scene without any doubt. Indeed, StarFox Assault is my best StarFox game. Amazing video! Having a better and more technical look at every StarFox entry was such an impressive experience. Looking at detail their entire story from worst to best. And hopefully, StarFox's story will continue.
I'm so happy to hear you much you vibed with my tier list and I thank you for your kind words and insight! I've always wanted to make a video like this to and I'm super happy with how it game out! I hope one day I get the chance to update this list with a new star fox game!!
I can live with mostly agree with the list. Assault and Adventures being that high is fine and in Assault case one of the spots I put it in. However, I still have a few problems. 1. While I agree command is a lacking game, I think it's a little bit of tweaking reasoning to say the anglers are too much like Andross. There are legit his bioweapons and he is the main villain of the series, so to me, they should be that way. Doubly so since command includes other things related to Andross like Dash and it gives at least to me the feeling that no matter if he is alive or dead, Andross had left long-lasting effects on the Lylat System. Besides I feel like their Fish and Water theming is enough to set them apart in terms of looks. 2. Half the things you said about Zero just don't sit well with me. I don't think a game should ask people to get good right out of the gate, this isn't Dark Souls. Star Fox has always been a series of games with simple games and simple controls (like most Nintendo series), I don't get why that would need to be changed just for you to feel more like you are piloting the arwing (which btw that machine ain't fragile, it lived getting blow up by Andross at the end of 64). I'm playing a video game so unless the game's stated goal is realism I'm not down for it. I never had an issue with controlling the Landmaster in 64 or Assault (then again I was fine with Command controls so I guess I'm just weird). Having Star Wolf in the game in all-range mode is pretty much every SF game since 64 minus Adventures, so I don't know why you brought that up in your upsides of Zero. Still, I do agree with you Zero has good music and it is the best-looking Star Fox game to date minus Battle for Atlus' Star Fox parts.
Okay first off thank you for your comment! I appreciate your perspective and insight on the topic! now with that said, let me offer a rebuttal lmao, 1. I do agree that the concept of the anglers is really cool, the whole idea of a bio weapon made by andross that's wreaking havoc is a solid idea! but the execution is what's lacking, the anglers are just a fish variant of the original venom army, and though the aquatic water like theme is cool its not enough to make these guys memorable in the slightest, even the final boss is just you fighting a literal fish with some flashy attacks ( and also has the most BS attack in the whole game aka the pillars ) if the angler emperor is meant to be a bio weapon that's been sitting and evolving after all this time then I expect more than just.... a fish. Additionally andross has been done to death as a villain and after the aparoids in assault and how we already saw the last remnants of androsses forces being taken out it really felt like a step backwards to bring back even MORE andross related nonsense. Now don't get me wrong, not everything related to andross in this game is bad, dash is a cool character but the anglers are just sad and forgettable, why not introduce a brand new bad guy from out side the galaxy? or maybe there is a virus made by andross that's taking over cornaian and broken venom ships? So much more could have been done instead of just well, a bad guy from androsses fish tank lol. 2. Okay this defiantly something we are not gonna see eye to eye on lmao, but here is the thing. This game is and its gameplay is a matter of taste, plan and simple. The idea that a game isn't allowed to ask you to practice and get good at the very start is a bit ludicrous to me, aside from dark souls there are still PLENTY of games that do the same exact thing that zero does, bayonets and its combo system, fighting games like street fighter and mortal combat and its directional combo system, flight simulators and jet fighting titles, Mario Odysseys movement system, Metroid Fusion with its difficulty, Hollow knight with its movement system, Sonic unleashed / generations and its high speed high reaction levels, all of these are examples of games that require the player the practice and learn to get the most out of it and saying that star fox isn't allowed to do the same thing, isn't allowed to experiment with its gameplay to make it more immersive or different is ( at least to me ) totally unfair and creatively restrictive. I love the idea of mastering a game like zero and I love the feeling of controlling the arwing in a more realistic way, it gets me so immersed and without the controls being the way they are then the game would lose what makes it so dynamic because the entire game would have to be.... well nerfed to accommodate for standard controls and I don't want to play a game that literally plays just like 64 all over again unless its like assault and brings along with it a whole brand new experience. furthermore, star fox has had MANY different gameplay styles over its run, from strategy based gameplay to on rail shooters to on foot Zelda adventures, to open world exploration, there has been so many different takes on star fox so what's to wrong with Zero being different as well? why is it bad for it to be more realistic with its arwing controls and ask the player to master them? Its no different than how command asked the player at the very star to deal with its horribly compact and imprecise styles controls. So like I said at the start it all comes back around to personal taste. 3. and finally let me blitz through your other statements! I referenced star wolf in zero being a highlight because their dog fights are far more cinematic and dynamic than any of there other iterations with 64 just being you flying in a circle over and over and over again to kill them. The land master in assault is god like, it has the best movement out of all the different versions of the vehicle, however when specifically looking at landmasters that play on rails, zero is by far the best since 64 has the annoying issues of the aiming recital constantly fighting against you as it tries to snap back to its resting potion, however when it comes to all range assault has them all beat. and last but not least, when I said the arwing's were delicate I did not mean as in fragile I meant as in its controls are delicate and sensitive which has been stated in lore multiple times, the arwings themselves build and power wise are total beasts which is why they are my favorite ship in all of fiction! and there we go! I hope I was able to articulate my perspective on all of this in a decent way lmao, but regardless this will be one of those moments where we agree to disagree which is totally fine! Thank you for your comment and the opportunity for a great discussion!
@@Jetter06 Thanks, I actually like that you gave more insight into your reasoning which I disagree with. I can at least get where you're coming from. I'll mostly point to some of my issues with your reply, nothing against you personally btw, but I just wish to point out some of my own problems. 1. I think you're putting a bit too much thought into one area about the Anglers and not other places. I agree they are the weakest (in terms of writing) villains in the series (mostly because Command can't decide on if they are a threat or not like in the opening or in Lucy + Krystal route ending or if there is no big deal like in Falco's goofing off route) but referring to them as just being Fish after a few years of evolving I feel is wrong. Since we've seen normal fish in the Star Fox universe and they don't breathe on land, they can't talk, and they don't have human-level sentient like us. Their being able to not only be able to build their own ships but also have full-on talking power is a feat of sci that could only come from the mind of a mad scientist like Andross. I would be more myth'ed if they were not fish given they live in the sea of venom and all. I think the Emperor of the Anglar fish form should have been a Leviathan, which would have been way cooler. Still just calling the Anglars are just fish, is like saying Andross and Venom's army are just monkies and Lizards or the Aparoid are nothing but bugs despite them coming from outside the galaxy. Also "Andross being done to death" is a thing of I don't this is a fair complaint like you said in your defense of Star Fox Zero's controls and while yes that was from a creative standpoint to some degree you also brought up other series doing something similar to me and like with new gimmicks and controls, other series even within Nintendo itself get to reuse their villains or expand on them, so like you said why is it a problem for Star Fox to do this? Andross even if you count remakes has been used far less than Ganon, Bowser, or even Ridley, and just because we got a new villain like the Aparoids doesn't mean we should stop using the old villain. Andrew being the last of Andross' would be so sad at least to me, since I feel like that would be a letdown to the guy who spent years of his life in hiding and building his army just for it all to be undone in less than a few years. A master of Magic and Sci with as much time as Andross shouldn't just be done and over with that easy at least to me. 2. I still believe in-game lore shouldn't have an effect on how you control things, I'm not a higher thinking Psychic, so should I not be able to use the funnels in a gundam game unless they are wired or do I need to have them adjusted to my liking like Amuro needed to in Char's Counterattack, why should the Arwing need me to be as attuned with it as Fox or Falco is with it because of realism? Other sci-fi series don't ask that of the player or its fans need that from them to enjoy the game. I love the Arwing just as much as I love the Gundam or Mazinger Z but I feel like a piece of fictional tech shouldn't need me to be a master pilot to play it. Like I get what you're saying but the fact of the matter is Street Fighter and Bayonetta have whole genres with their similar playstyle and controls intact while Star Fox Zero's controls are all its own with other rail shooters playing more like 64. Like you said you're into mastering a game like Zero, but I'm not when the skills gained from it only work for 1 game on 1 system. Also, you have to remember some playstyles are more than others even within a fanbase, I remember many Zelda fans were not fans of Skyward Sword before the Switch version came out and changed the controls. I get why you feel like I was just dunking on the controls for being different and experimental when honestly I don't hate when something new is tried. I just didn't like the execution of it and I felt the realism just didn't help the game. I also think it's why people complain less about when other series do it. The idea was there but for most, the execution was badly done in their eyes (I feel like this can also be applied to Andross' reuse in the series, as in the execution needing to be better done). Now let me go through some of your thoughts here. Fine but I don't agree with that, given when I did the Star Wolf boss fights in Zero, they did the same thing you claim all they do in other Star Fox games (fly around in a cycle over and over again) since they can't shoot you the same way you can shoot them. They only feel more cinematic and dynamic because of the slow-down effect they have when you pass by them really close to them and they have new special attacks(which they should bring back next game, this is one of my more liked things about Zero). I never had much of an issue controlling the landmaster in 64 but like you said this is one thing we will not be able to agree on. However there is one thing I want to touch on, I don't like Zero replacing the Goras with Scrapworm. I thought the Goras looked way cooler and though at least their boss fights are about the same in terms of toughness. This last being is just me, thanking you once again for giving more insight on your thoughts about both Zero and Command. I know both titles we are talking about are not actually looked on with open arms, so I appreciate the effect, and honestly. This is some of the best Star Fox discussions I've had in ages. So once again thank you.
Glad you did justice to Zero, I loved the game a lot, but it's main issue is the fact that it literally tells the player to "git gud" in order to be enjoyed, but yeah, you got spot on the tier list. Edit: The same goes to Star Fox Adventures, it was one of my favorite games on the Game Cube.
I do have a hot take of my own:SF1>64 The music in SF1 to me sounds better than most of it in SF64, and saving your teamates does feel more impactful because they actually die in SF1 rather than come back in the next level, should you fail to save them.
I just watched the video from start to finish in one sitting, and I was genuinely surprised by how highly Star Fox Adventures was ranked, despite its flaws and reputation. It's great to see you appreciate and enjoy titles that often get criticized rather than praised. Kudos to you, my friend! However, I have to admit that the only thing keeping Star Fox Adventures from being an S-tier game for me is the fact that Krystal was sidelined as a damsel in distress. It’s really disappointing, especially considering how well-designed Krystal is and how much I was looking forward to exploring her character in-game. Her outfit, while revealing, is just one part of her intriguing design. I feel that if Star Fox Adventures had been given more development time, it could have been a much better experience than Dinosaur Planet. With more time, it could have significantly expanded its worldbuilding and characters. I was especially excited about the idea of Fox McCloud doing missions on foot-it brought a fresh perspective to the franchise. If the game had been allowed to fully develop, we might have seen Krystal as a playable character, which could have led to a spin-off series with her as the protagonist. Imagine a Zelda-like game featuring Krystal with Miya and Fey as her companions! It’s a missed opportunity, especially since these characters were left out after the cancellation of Star Fox 2. Their inclusion would have added depth and variety to the gameplay and story. Despite everything, I hope Star Fox Adventures will still be a fun game when I get to play it. Thanks for the great content, and you've definitely earned my subscription. (Please note that I haven't played the game yet, I can't emphasis this enough... but I really REALLY wish to do so, since the game looks so gorgeous. The opinion I have on the game came mainly from the word of mouth... I'm not sure how the gameplay or story would feel... but the only frustration I have from the game is mainly for its missing content. I hope you understand, and farewell my friend)
@@omegaus817 tiermaker.com/create/starfoxgames-26953 here ya go! it doesn't have the game and watch, atlas, or Dinosaur Planet but you should be able to upload them to the tier list if you want! however keep in mind that the game and watch, and atlas logos are my own creations and the beta logo for dinosaur planet was also a recreations / upscale of the original so you probably wont find those logos online
No I totally agree about star fox 64 placement. It's great yes but once you go through the routes get medals expert mode ECT it gets repetitive. Other than graphics it's basically star fox 1 and 2 combined. Thank you for giving adventures and assault the respect they deserve. My debate has been no one trashes botw or totk for being different or taking other games (Minecraft and witcher) and adding them into Zelda so why hate adventures and assault for putting Zelda golden eye aspects into star fox but praise Zelda for taking witcher and Minecraft aspects into Zelda.

So once again thank you.
fun tier list
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
You know i made like 4 versions of this teir list and originally i had sf1 above 64 lmao
@@Jetter06 Lol
Nice work
I want to make my own Star Fox tier list so I do mys.
Thank you!!
@@Jetter06 Np. I need a link so I can do my.
@@omegaus817 tiermaker.com/create/starfoxgames-26953
here ya go! it doesn't have the game and watch, atlas, or Dinosaur Planet but you should be able to upload them to the tier list if you want!
however keep in mind that the game and watch, and atlas logos are my own creations and the beta logo for dinosaur planet was also a recreations / upscale of the original so you probably wont find those logos online
@@Jetter06 Is fine. I just can wait. I let you now I am done.
I’m still upset you took my crown.
You know what you have to do
Lmaoooo, im fast a fuck boi
No I totally agree about star fox 64 placement. It's great yes but once you go through the routes get medals expert mode ECT it gets repetitive. Other than graphics it's basically star fox 1 and 2 combined. Thank you for giving adventures and assault the respect they deserve. My debate has been no one trashes botw or totk for being different or taking other games (Minecraft and witcher) and adding them into Zelda so why hate adventures and assault for putting Zelda golden eye aspects into star fox but praise Zelda for taking witcher and Minecraft aspects into Zelda.
Goood
Thank you!!!
Please let there be something starfox in the june direct
Yes please! I would lose my freaking mind!
Oof
