I have this problem with every single windows overlay on my v56. Varies from application to application. Some games its not much of an effect, some games its massive. Not great when I don't have activated windows though, end up having to restart my pc every 4 hours or so to get rid of the watermark.
My Vega64 doesn't play nice unless I plug 1 monitor into HDMI and the other display port. Happened after an update. I get intermittent black screens otherwise. Going back to NVidia next card.
This is inconsistent, which is the worst, on 470 I'm great with multimonior, however, for a month or two I had weird issue, every time there was gpu driver update my screens went black and I had to reboot, then install those drivers and then everything was fine. Yeah, rx470, I'm waiting for next gen gpu's to see if RT/RTX becomes relevant or not.
I guess it freaked them out as much as my gf's work colleague was when she was told it was perfectly possible to melt cheese into baked beans (with a dash of black pepper), she actually said, "You can do that??".

I got a red devil Vega 56 for 225$. As far as I can tell,it is best AMD GPU for the 200 ish price right now. Obviously you might have to go used, but still VERY worth it vs 590 or (NEW) 5500XT (8GB)
I guess an artificially restricted card that they can unlock a bit more is still a better option than a card be DOA cos it's at the end of its wick by design.
@@faultyservice ok, but following that kind of logic, everyone should stop doing everything, because someone else does a better job that's just around the corner. If for nothing else AMD forced Nvidia's hand, maybe not buy much, but still. On the lower end of the spectrum, Nvidia has too many cards almost $50 apart. If AMD wedges something in there, adjusting prices would need to cascade down, otherwise cards would step on eachother. That is at least good for the consumer.
FPS drop / stuttering when adjusting volume in win 10 is also happening to me in CS:GO. Microsoft just ignores my full-screen and its trying to force volume bar to show through game. Just want to point out that its happening even with my GTX 1080.
Yep. Disabling fullscreen optimizations on the executable used to work but not anymore. In some games, the volume bar doesn't appear but in other it appears.
I have the XFX 5600 XT, post bios, 14gbps pro series card. It's the best card I've ever had. There's not much overclocking you can do with it, but you can max it out and it runs 3DMark just fine.
love how GN has gone out of their way to provide us with benchmarks for every possible bios possibility. would have been very easy to just say "update your vbios before comparing results to this video" but this is not the GN way. You guys the real MVPs.
Thank you Steve for investigating the radeon drivers. There's more problems then those you list and I would love to see a video that really details this and forces AMD's hand a bit. Did you know that the vega cards cant play HDR netflix? I wanted to use my radeon vii to double as an htpc but cant send a 4k hdr blueray to a television. Playready 3.0 was talked about in 2018 for the vega cards. Blackscreens caused from desktop programs that use gpu acceleration (I refuse to believe a fix for that is to disable the feature you buy a gpu for) Run a 20 minute benchmark no problem, quit that and open firefox and blackscreen, reboot, reset wattman settings. Inconsistant random screen flickers while on a static webpage or the desktop, sometimes twice a day, sometimes every 20 seconds. I'd be perfectly happy with my card if it could just be stable.
I've been doing some benching recently, just added a 1080 Ti config for an upper reference - so nice to see such smooth fps even at 1440p. Infact it was so damn fast it kept hitting the game engine's internal frame rate cap (approx. 188fps); when that happens the game stutters badly. Solution was to set a frame rate limit using Riva Tuner (very easy), so I chose 175, smooooth awesomeness. See: www.sgidepot.co.uk/misc/gtav.txt The fps cap is why 1080p/Low is actually slightly slower than 1440p/Low for the 1080 Ti config. More results with weird XEONs and other stuff here: www.sgidepot.co.uk/sgi.html#PC
Honestly, I would wait until AMD fix NAVI's driver before using RX5600XT on my clients computer, price performance is about the same with RTX 2060, yet driver performance aren't. Well, finewine will probably strike again, but not until I am forced to spend time fixing driver issue one by one. Probably best option is to wait a while.
Yeah, basic stuff here. Should also run it in safe mode and also clean install the GPU via drivers as an extra layer. Sometimes running DDU a few times helps, can check registry.
the thing i hate about using DDU is remembering how to get win10 into safemode again.. settings>update and security>recovery>advanced startup>restart now etc etc... it should not be that complicated... my pet peeve... lol
I've been using the 5700XT since launch and the only issue I've had that's been consistent has been the FreeSync issue, such as the disconnecting issue.. Had some strange slow down in Fallen Order but I was trying out anti-lag with that to see if it would do anything. It didn't but turning off anti-lag fixed it. Not many multi monitor issues.
I've been trying to replace my RX 590 and I was considering getting the 5600 XT. Seeing as the Bios update helps it tremendously and you can even push out more performance using MPT without destroying the card or putting it on water I think I've found it'd be a good option since I want to stay under 300 dollars.
So the takeaway is AMD Video Cards are no good since the drivers are sht? Why not just pick one of the Invidia Super cards instead for peace of mind? =D
I just got my PowerColor RedDragon 5600XT and discovered that the BIOS was already up-to-date. I bought it off Amazon. I've got my Ryzen 2600 running at 3.85 GHz all core and actually just edged out an 3600 at stock timings on the firestrike 3dMark.
The buggy throttling/stuttering under lower loads has been a problem for months on Navi and AMD can't get a handle on it. I can only agree with James, avoid if you just want to play hassle free.

Uh, Steve, did you hear from Hardware Unboxed how to fix the messy drivers? Since you have a test bench, you have to use many different graphics cards, from Nvidia to AMD. Apparently, if you delete the previous drivers that are still on the boot drive, then it will work fine.
@@mjc0961 I know that these guys are pretty smart, but I also know that there are people who have never had problems with Radeon rx products, and they deleted the previous drivers. Though, what made you think that I was talking down to them?
What I'm taking away from the noise and thermal testing is that the card was overbuilt for the original spec, so it benefits from the spec bump. Cards built to a more strict price point will probably suffer more.
Uriah Siner yeap same, I bought a 5700 xt early December and experienced more crashes in 2 weeks than I had with my 970 in 4 years. Thank god for Amazon and their return policy. Happy with my 2070 Super now.
Glad I'm not the only one with stutter/black screen, especially for StarWarsBattlefront2 (thought it was a Dice problem). Running 144hz monitor w/ 5700 XT. Notice problems only come up with FreeSync as well. Amd's latest drivers seemed to stop the crashes and PC restarts. Still occasional black screen unless I turn FreeSync OFF then ON for monitor thru OSD.
AMD's graphics division really needs to pull it's head out of its butt. What a farce lol. How do they not know Nvidia is going to lower it's prices? Please will someone save us from these graphics card companies?
You have the perfect idea for a follow up video, The Arms Race. How close can you get a 5600 XT to a 5700 non XT and then how close can you get a 5700 non XT to a 5700 XT.
Probably is maintaining compatibility for consoles, and also money which is why they can't have 2 architectures running side by side. If they had money we'd probably see a ground up architecture like Zen, but because they can't build one from scratch and have to use the current modified architecture for consoles in order to ensure backwards compatibility we have Navi doing both jobs.
@@scarletspidernz yeah. Rdna is basically an extended GCN so native GCN code can still run (even though it doesnt touch the extensions). Nice Reviewe Steve! Thank you! However, I noticed that some of the Data in your Benchmark Sheets is extremely outdated and yes, I know it's a massive hassle, but I would love it when you update it. Especially the insanely low 0.1% are a thing of the past and do not appear anymore, even on Stock-Settings. My VII scored 141 Min. FPS, 179 Average and 295 Max in the GPU Benchmark with the Settings mentioned with my System and OC-Settings. The VII is EoL, yes, but it is still going strong and in comparison to the RX5700XT has real Overclocking Potential for upto 25% Performance Gains over Stock (like in my Case), making the VII very competitive still to the RTX2080 Super and is still a great Option for AMD Fans that want to have a bit more Performance.

It's out of spec, but a single 8-pin should be able to handle ~250 W as each pin is rated for 7 amps.
Basically, get the 2060 KO (if its even in stock) if you want a card without driver issues. If you are ok with driver issues, the 5600XT might be ok, if you know how to flash a GPU BIOS. If you don't know, just buy the cheapest 5700 (XFX DD Ultra for 309.99 right now on B&H, not including MIRs)

Hi, thanks for your tips on building PC.s. I'm about to build a new PC. How do you transfer all your apps, docs, pictures, internet settings and profiles from your old PC to a new PC with a fresh Windows install? There's quite a few guys out there showing how to build systems, but I've not seen any of them make videos to show you how to migrate your stuff from old to new PC. This would be very useful, especially to new builders.
The bigger question is,looking at the old 5600xt numbers and teh current 2060 numbers, did nvidea panic aswell?I felt like they could have held the prices at 350 while still maintaining a seizable gap.B4 this review i was thinking on why nvidea dropped the 2060 price, did they have some insight on the 5600 xt performance? Now it looks like they are regretting their decision,i guess they did start to consider amd a competitor even for the low-mid range.
Had 3 generations of AMD videocards the drivers always been shit, never again. I know, I know finewine, but not waiting for 3 or more months before they get the drivers right. I do like AMD cpus, I have a Ryzen 3700x and a msi rx2080 they work good together.
Well, here in Spain the cheapest 2060 is the Zotac's for 320 eu and if 5600 xt goes for 280 eu-290 eu then is a better deal. Also, my vega 56 was having the same black screens you said (dual monitor also) and in reddit pretty much every 5700 are having black screens for months now. I really wanna buy AMD but geez paying 300 or more for a gpu for it no be able to play games is insulting.
Every time I've seen a GPU launched in the last six months I've been nervous I'd start to feel like I made a horrible choice buying the non-TI 1660 when it came out. While the Super was a bit of a kick, it didn't do anything that was outside the expected OC specs of my card anyway so I was okay with that. So far, this hasn't changed that either. It's interesting how the GPU battle has been moving the last 18 months or so, both in the low and mid-range models.
ElZamo92 in cpu They have 7nm vs 14+++++ manufacturing node. In cpu They have chiplets vs monolith cpus. Those Are huge production and price adwantages! In gpu... They don`t have those. Only the 7nm, but 12nm is cheaper to produce, so the situation is very different!

I have this problem with every single windows overlay on my v56. Varies from application to application. Some games its not much of an effect, some games its massive. Not great when I don't have activated windows though, end up having to restart my pc every 4 hours or so to get rid of the watermark.

This is inconsistent, which is the worst, on 470 I'm great with multimonior, however, for a month or two I had weird issue, every time there was gpu driver update my screens went black and I had to reboot, then install those drivers and then everything was fine.

I guess it freaked them out as much as my gf's work colleague was when she was told it was perfectly possible to melt cheese into baked beans (with a dash of black pepper), she actually said, "You can do that??".

Yup, crazy that there is no direct competitor to the 1660 super.

Greatly respect this channel. Underrated. Thank you for looking out. Just want to drop some love even in an older vid.

I think the pulse cards look tacky. The nitro cards however, look clean.
I have the XFX 5600 XT, post bios, 14gbps pro series card. It's the best card I've ever had. There's not much overclocking you can do with it, but you can max it out and it runs 3DMark just fine.

I'd be perfectly happy with my card if it could just be stable.
i am amazed by the 1080ti on gtav, owning everything out there (till 1440p)
I've been doing some benching recently, just added a 1080 Ti config for an upper reference - so nice to see such smooth fps even at 1440p. Infact it was so damn fast it kept hitting the game engine's internal frame rate cap (approx. 188fps); when that happens the game stutters badly. Solution was to set a frame rate limit using Riva Tuner (very easy), so I chose 175, smooooth awesomeness. See:
www.sgidepot.co.uk/misc/gtav.txt
The fps cap is why 1080p/Low is actually slightly slower than 1440p/Low for the 1080 Ti config.

Tip always DDU the driver before installing a new GPU, I have seen some systems switched to AMD with GeForce experience kept on it.
I wish this was me. But at least the new driver release fixed my problems.
Finally. Thanks Steve
I've been trying to replace my RX 590 and I was considering getting the 5600 XT. Seeing as the Bios update helps it tremendously and you can even push out more performance using MPT without destroying the card or putting it on water I think I've found it'd be a good option since I want to stay under 300 dollars.

Regarding the Radeon group; I watched when their person took the stage at CES during the AMD presentation and was underwhelmed by her performance.

You don't honestly think that GN don't know how to uninstall drivers, do you?

Same here man, it would be a nice upgrade from an rx570, especially when prices eventually drop between $250 - $260
That's where I think your wrong, AMD saw Nvidia move ahead of time and saved this Bios Update as a weapon incase thia happened.
Me too... AMD forced Nvidia to show their cards. They did... lower prices. Then AMD says BIOS update!
What I'm taking away from the noise and thermal testing is that the card was overbuilt for the original spec, so it benefits from the spec bump. Cards built to a more strict price point will probably suffer more.

I have a theory.
I think AMD's GPU division is relying way too much on gains from node shrinks. They really need architecture to catch up.
This is pretty much in line with how Nintendo used the same hardware in the original Gameboy and in the Gameboy Color -- with just double memory banks and extended everything
I know it'd be a lot of extra work, but some VR benchmarks would be awesome to see. I suppose they'd be similar to 1440p or 4k performance it'd just be nice to see hard numbers even on a single headset.
