  • Comparing benchmark data from the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT vs. the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 6GB to see which one is the better graphics card for gaming under $150 in 2023
The very fact that these two GPUs can be bought used for just £125 ($150) in 2023 is great news for gamers. Anyone considering spending more money on a new RX 6500 XT or GTX 1630 should definitely consider one of these instead, but which one? The newer, RDNA based Radeon, or the RTX-enabled Geforce? Or is there an even better option for only a little more money?

@@rapu4 I would probably do the same, but the reason I did what I did (not mentioning the price tag, of course) is just that I don't have any interest in new and high-techy games. Probably the most advanced games I play on this card are Cyberpunk, Baldur's Gate 3 and MW2022, and the card handles them all pretty well.

Well, many 5700XT's cost the same as a 2060 in the UK at that time, £330 or so. You could get a 2060 for £300 if you shopped around, but the 5700XT is some 30% faster. It was a no brainer for a thinking gamer.
Still the 2060 outsold the 5600XT and 5700XT by around 700%.

And no I didn't price gouge someone when I sold it a fortnight later, I serviced it and passed it on for £180, it's still in use right now in a local family's kid's computer, I'll pop round and repaste it for them soon.

I would personally just spend that tiny extra for an actual 5700XT. There is no guarantee that the 5700 you would buy could handle the increased clocks, not to mention that flashing a vbios can go wrong. And if you are on that of a tight budget that you can't get the 5700XT, I would just not risk losing the 5700 that you paid for.

    • @83RhalataShera
      @83RhalataShera 11 місяців тому +10

@@AlexHusTech "Just use more power tools", my point is that you aren't guaranteed that the silicon you buy can handle it consistently, it's basically like telling people "Yeah X GPU has this performance, but I have managed to overclock the one that I have with these settings and now it is 15% faster so you guys should just do that instead of spending like 30 extra euros and get that performance guaranteed, with a cooler that was meant for it (even tho some coolers in the 5000 series were awful even for the gpu they were built for) and a chip that passed quality control for that level of clocks/power/etc..".
Sorry, I don't care that even 80% of the cards "can do it" AMD disabled the 4 CUs and turned down the clocks on the Navi 10 chip for a reason, chances are that a lot of people who would buy the 5700 under the impression that they are just going to magically flash a bios or unlock limits with more power tools and get "free performance" would get severely disappointed when their GPU would suddenly be really hot and loud because the cooler was never built for it or their card was just crashing in games because surprise surprise that Navi 10 chip didn't pass QC for a 5700XT.
I think it's fine if you are a tinkerer but I would never feel good about recommending it to a friend who wants a good and reliable second hand value GPU, that's why I don't like people just recommending budget buyers something that might or might not work as they expect and might even result in a dead GPU they spent their money on.

Interesting benchmarks. The rx 5600 xt was underrated when it came out due to driver problems. In fact, two different models came out on the market, respectively with 12 and 14 gbps. The model with the updated bios (14 gbps) is very close to a 2060 super :)

As a 2060Super user I would assert it's all you need, mind you if you reverse Nvidia's memory underclock of 1000MHz and add a little 7% core OC you can increase output significantly, it's the most I've ever got out of monkeying about with the pre-sets on a card. Generally though I just use it stock, I reserve the clocked profile for if want to play Cyberbug or the Worst Optomised of Us, Or Jedi: Force Hair Colouriser.

5600XT had zero driver problems. Bought two on day one of release and they never had a single issue. One of them still running to this day in my daughters machine.
You might be confusing this with the 5700XT black screen issue, which took 3-4 months to fix (yet only affected a small percentage of people).
And yes, 5600XT with the updated BIOS was 20% less expensive than a 2060 but beat it in performance. Matched the 2060S in a handful of games. Really nice cards, if you got one before the prices went absolutely mental.

It was much maligned at the time but people were being arseholes, it launched at the same ticket price as the 1060 6GB and was a little over 50% faster with the DDR6 offering a huge uplift in memory bandwidth compared to DDR5, it was the last major uplift in performance Nvidia delivered in the midrange. I went for the 8GB Super variant purely because of the way my 6 chip 1060 fell off a cliff compared to the 8 chip AMD DDR5 cards. My Super has stood up well so far and at 3 and half years it's just lasted longer than my 1060 and I'm not replacing it for another year, maybe a little longer. It may be slower than a 5700XT but it's good enough for my usage and I do like playing with the Tensor core witchcraft functions.

Undervolted and overclocked I’ve read it can overtake an RX 5600 XT and has the extra VRAM to its benefit. Out of the box it even performs the same as an RX 5600 XT, so I think I’ll be happy with this for a while waiting for either RX 8000 to knock it out of the park (pretty unlikely) or for RX 7000 to appear at decent prices in the used market.

Tbh, at this price point and generation ray tracing does not matter. For the 2060 ray tracing is garbage for the most part, the card doesn't have the horsepower to really trace those rays. DLSS is a nice QoL and, for the most part, better than FSR. And, Ironically is the FSR availability what makes a 2060 appealing, since you can choose either upscaling technology available of the game. Personally, if I had to cjoose I would go with the 5700 XT, even if the card consumes more power. Because of its performance it will be able to play new releases st least four to five years from now, even with the 8VRAM buffer.
Unless you find a pretty amazing deal on an Nvidia card, go for the AMD. Sure, Nvidia has a lot of the pretty bells and whistles but AMD bests the crap of out it on price/performance and the Adrenaline software is so good. I've used AMD cards since my first custom PC snd I don't regret it any bit. The RTX series has been tempting, but when I see their horrendous price, yeah, no thanks, it's not worth it.

Note: I did go to to my pc and set everything to factory maximum, I could squeeze more of it I overclocked it, but I'm using a cheap b450m which really isn't meant for overclocking
Also I don't like dlss, I will never use dlss, the games look worse with rt and dlss so I usually just run the games with ray tracing on or off and dlss always off.

I'm still plenty happy with it at 1440p 75hz refresh rate- I can mostly max out settings on games. I doubt I'll ever spend more on a new GPU than I did for this, unless I win the lottery which I don't play- so ya, not happening!

Mining is not an issue if the miner wasn't a dumbass honestly (which can hard to find out as a buyer to be fair).
When I still had my 5700XT in my gaming PC back during the mining craze I was doing some minor testing with crypto mining since the 5700XT was good at it and most guides by knowledgeable miners always recommended heavily undervolting the GPU core which resulted in much lower temperatures than while gaming at stock settings.
Couple that with blowing the dust off the card regularly and there really isn't a problem with ex-mining cards. Especially since during mining the GPU stays roughly at same temperature all the time, while the temperatures in a typical gaming workload are more up and down, which is actually worse for the health of a chip (even tho it is still fine imo, GPUs are not princesses, they don't break/degrate as easily as many people seem to believe).
I ended up trading my 5700XT for a 6700XT with a miner (since the 6700XT has a smaller memory bus it is worse at mining but better at gaming so they had around the same market value) and it was in perfect condition and still runs great with good temps 2 years later. Yes, an anecdote but I really think that if the miner isn't a pig then it shouldn't be a problem

The game ran like crap and I sidegraded, well arguably downgraded, to a Geforce 4MX which ran the game brilliantly. Since then I've always just gotten the best bang for the buck Nvidia card that was available, the last two I've purchased being a GTX 970 and a RTX 3060.
Only relatively recently did I switch back to AMD for my processor. I'd had a FX-6300 and experienced the black pixel glitch in Mass Effect and because of that I changed platforms entirely and went to a i5-4460.
