    Hey Chris, just a FYI, they are pumps used to catch these critters ( Marine Yabbies or Ghost Nippers) in sandy salt water areas.....it's a bit hard to push the pump into muddy bottoms that river yabbies live in.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trypaea
    I used to catch them for bait to catch Bream and Flat Head.

    Very informative video again Vogus and well put together. The rip stop thingymajig barrier also looked like a good piece of kit and I agree with ya about not digging too deep. The gold is in many different layers on the creek and you demonstrated it nicely.Good on ya fella.

    I wonder if there's any indication of the presence of fine gold in the ground/water, reflected in foliage growing close to it. An Experiment by US Biochemists (1970's?) concluded that uptake of gold in solution was much higher if cut stems were sunk into the ground/water over rooted plants. Always worth thinking of alternative methods.

    A tip to save your legs and back for low down work like you are doing when you are panning, take a milk crate with you to sit on in the water or water's edge. Light weight and you can put some of your gear in it to carry with you. Or a chair for when you have your smoko break 👍

    As soon as your buddy starts mass-producing those I'm buying one! Until then I use the nylon cases that come with your fold up chairs. Along with nylon beach bags from the dollar store, I can make a pretty good damn. The idea of not having to make sandbags though is one I can get behind LOL. Great video I always learn a lot

    Watching these old videos makes me want to cry :,,)
    I can't believe its been that long since I got gold fever. Holy Cow.
    Also, the dam in this video is really cool, I tried to make one buy I'm not as skilled as your friend, it was a fail. Oh well.
    But I was wondering if you could send some well wishes my direction because I got all 4 wisdom teeth out yesterday, and I'm feeling kind of depressed and frustrated (the holes are taking forever to heal). It would mean the world if you could send some Australian encouragement my direction. I know it'll heal, but it just is so rough in the mean time.
    Either way, watching videos from you (and others, like Paul, Busted Knuckles, Two Toes, etc) is really helping me pull through this.
    With love, from America,
    -Tubes

      as a youth i wasnt interested in panning much, going out with the old dudes was booooooring.... now... after the old boys are gone.... it pains me to think of what i missed out on. Keep taking the young bloke out, at least until he can demonstrate he knows how to do it... if he still doesnt want to be in it thats cool, he may well come round later. But the key is that he learn how. Then its up to him.

    Your Yabbies are our CrawDads or CrayFish . Taste quite good boiled up Hot Sauce Added washed down with a cold beer. Pretty much a Miniature Fresh water Lobster. Metal pans are the same as any other pan actually. Nothing special . Oh, you whipper snappers like those Riffled Pans ? Ya just need to slow down bit. Yep, Use the Corner of the pan to collect the heavies. We use Gunny Sacks and sand as sand bags for the same thing. You can leave the Burlap sand bags when done. They just go back into Mudder Earth in time.

    Another good video.
    Just got back from a week up at Porepunkah, was a great little holiday, Tuesday went to Eldorado to try Reedy creek, kids had a good swim, got a little gold, not a lot tho.
    But since we are talking about flood gold here, this would make a good story, on Thu, the kids and the missus wanted to go for a swim, where I normally set up my sluice on the gravel bar next to the caravan park the river flows too fast and deep for the kids, so we had to move, now I was getting 3-5 specks per pan at that spot, so we moved up the river to the next corner, were the river was slower and there was mud for the kids to play with ( kids become mud monsters, even the 8-month-old was covered lol), anyway I noticed that the bank there was in two steps with heavy gravels in a channel between the two, so thought I should try, 20-30 specks in the first pan. Set up the sluice, dream mat performed amazingly, so well, that even the fast current caught all the ultra fine gold. When doing a cleanup you could see the gold at the edges of the dirt (the dream mat leaves maybe 10% of a pan of material).
    Haven't weighed it yet, but learned a very important lesson.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому

      Yes sometimes leaving gold to find gold is well worth it. I leave anything under 10 specks per pan and only come back once ive had a look around the area.

    • @matthewfarrell317
      @matthewfarrell317 6 років тому

      Thing is I test panned further down the river and found pretty much nothing, never occurred to me to try up the river. But now thinking about it makes sense, I was just before the Buckland joins the Ovens, so when in flood the two rivers would be flowing at the rate of knots and would remove all the gold, further up you just have the Ovens.
      But I pulled 0.93 grams from that hole, and that was being ineffiecnt with my time (stopping to play with the kids lol) might go back up there in Feb sometime, because I struggle to stay away lol.

I noticed just this week, today is 26 Jun 2019, that The Gold Croc is no longer being manufactured. do you have any insights into why such a revolutionary product like the Gold Croc was discontinued??? too expensive to make/sell?? people stealing their idea?? inquiring minds want to know. Since they are no longer in production, do you think it is fine to build my own for my purposes only???? anyway, I was saddened to hear they went bust

      I cracked 3 vertebrae, 7 ribs, my arm and damaged my right hip 19years ago and love prospecting. I am only 37 but i know well what you mean there mate. I only really do it through warmer months now and hit it hard last sumer after watching nearly all of Chris's videos. Changed my style and i take it all at my own pace. I take a little fold out seat and might only do a dozens pans for the day. Takes learning but i am for quality over quantity on my gravels or crevacing.
      Keep at it and enjoy it your own way mate. :)

    Ummm Yabbie pump is designed to suck SALTWATER yabbies/Pink Nipper/Bass Yabbies out of tidal sand flats. Freshwater crayfish Cherax sp. are better caught in mesh traps.
