Good to see you chaps working together. Keep telling you though, those are not simply cracks, but rather joints in the geological sense, having formed during deep burial, heating and deformation of the rocks early during their genesis as fracture networks. Exploited by exhumation, erosion, elastic/chemical expansion and roots alike they become "cracks", near surface. Joints generally come in sets of three, more or less at right angles. Look for the sub-horizontal basal joints abutting the perpendicular vertical ones. They always carry, at an intersection. Hope this is helpful and does not sound too pedantic. Great vid! Best all.

It's been said here before, but I have to say it again,, so refreshing to see both you and Andrew together down the creek. I haven't put a pan in the water yet because I thought I might spend some time ( whats been 12 months so far) educating myself,, looking for layers n lines, watching creeks and rivers(while fishing) ect.You 2 blokes are the most down to earth, no bullshit teachers bar none. The way you guys freely explain every detail to us amateurs,,,,well I for one, am extremely thankful.

Now look what you've started! We have pans of water everywhere (don't know which one you'll spawn in) and since it would be AMAZING to have Chris and Andrew out to the West Coast of the States, we've modified the chant to Vo-Gus Gold, Vo-Gus Gold, Vo-Gus Gold. We're working on getting more viewers involved in this project since it a far stretch from here to there and we'll need volume amplification.

Finally found this video. One thing an old timer like me can suggest to you is, keep your bog roll dry, how! get a used honey bucket with a snap on lid .It can be any sort of plastic container with a lid, but for me the honey bucket with a handle works, lightweight and waterproof.

Hi Jason, PTSD is a real bitch to learn to live with and overcome. It's good to hear your getting out panning and not simply "locked away" inside your house too scared to go outside, fresh air mixed with sunshine and physical activity is only one thing that will help you to overcome your fears. Careful controlled exposure to the things that cause you the most panic will, over time, help you to either control your stress or to overcome it. Don't try to be "tough" by bottling things up inside you and not talking about it as this can only make it worse.
Good luck on your recovery and I hope your prospecting rewards you in more ways than one.

The bog roll is an essential, especially in the Aussie summer, not much soft then 😵
Observations first, persistence essential, yes, screwdrivers do work well but should always carry a snakebite kit/bandage in your backpack, especially in Australia.

Estwing makes a cantilevered pry-bar with one (18" long and forged as one piece)... ...they're amazing at the junction of cracks, and at starting them... ...Two Toes (youtube) has one ("good ole GP-18"), and he gets great use out of it on that California bedrock... ...Pretty good with crevices too; I love mine!

I have been using a posthole shovel & am curious as to why you recommend a round nosed shovel instead, please. Enjoying your videos & the knowledge you so freely share, thanks.

Because when you start working in proper gravels like hard pack a pointy shovel will find gaps and cracks to work in to, a flat one one. It'd much easier digging

    Hahahaha funny lads
Great new vid Chris and Andrew
I do think I know Mick if u can ask him does he know me Crouch
Any way nice looking creek too and yes specific tools in certain areas is the crack
In our place you must throw all normal thinking aside and look in a different place
It’s just way to deep and sandy gravel
It could be ten foot deep behind a rock
So we must look in crevices with packed rock
Not the norm in this river
I dug down one for an hour still had the same sized hole I started with lol
    Crouch

I love sluicing sand, I hate trying to dig deep holes in it.

Hate them, normal pans way easier and just as quick

Yeah I got 1 they do the job and keep very fine gold but can be a pain in the ass also ... so I usually just use a normal pan in the end

Hi Chris, can I ask what length and width is your yabbie pump in this video. Mine is a monster, and gets really awkward to stow in the packs....have a great day...
