The graphical update is great but the original just sounds and feels a lot more like you're there.
In terms of ambient sound I suppose, but it feels like you really just can't hear the actual podracers though. What would Sebulba be without the iconic GLUGLUGLUGLUG noise? Their unique sounds were a huge part of their charm.
First game had way more dynamic feeling and speed felt much better.
PS2 engine sounds like a cat.
the difference in sound between the clips reminds me of that old WoW vs runescape video. it's so drastic. racer revenge feels unfinished
The original game's pod feels a lot more dynamic giving a better sense of speed and pull from the engines. The sequel just looks like it's floating and gliding around the track.
What a game! Racer made a fair bit of my childhood gaming
1 looks better to me, it has better design.
Others have noted that the sound effects are way better in the first, and that it's simply faster. One of the things that I noticed is that in the first one the podracers feel extremely fragile. They are going way too fast, the slightest touch sends sparks flying, there are constant sounds of mechanical collision and damage. This reflects the fragility of the podracers in the movie. In the second, the pods glide around the track uneventfully, and there is no sense of danger at all.
This was the childhood dream
I remember this game being a lot more intense
It is when you play, recently released for all modern consoles!
Both games are fantastic, really like Sebulbas pod racer sound in Racers Revenge however!
honestly the best way to play racers revenge is either furthest third person view or first person view. this allows for better control and alot more immersion. i wish they would port racers revenge to pc however.
"WATCH OUT, EXHAUST FOR BRAINS!"
How is it that the curvatures of young Anakin's Pod, look smoother and more film accurate in the N64 version? Also the sense of speed in N64 is unbeat.
The first is way better when it comes to the sound-effects. And it has quite a big part of my childhood as well :D
1:50 You're telling me the first had better sound?
Buddy the first one had no actual engine sound like the movie and Revenge had
I love the F1 engine Anakin's Podracer had
The gameplay for the first one is king. The speed, the tracks and the simplicity make super easy for anyone to pick up but not to master. I wish they would make anther game especially now that photogrametry is a thing and the models can be film accurate.
the camera angle and music/sfx adds a lot to the game, sense of speed and atmosphere is off the charts in the original despite looking worse.
How is it that the PS2 version has worse sfx than the N64/PC? Even gfx wise the PS2 version somehow manages to look like a step down in most aspects.
At least you can hear the Podracer's engines in the PS2 version, I wish the N64 game included that as well
The PS2 version has better models and textures, but uses them poorly.
I played an arcade console version of this game at the Luxor in Las Vegas. I pumped more money into that game than in the slot machines. Then I bought the PC version of it, and it was as great as the arcade game
@Big C awesome man! Yeah I play the arcade version @ Universal Studios Island of Adventure when they had it. It was as blast! I have both these games. I have Star Wars Episode 1 Racer on Sega Dreamcast and have Star Wars Racers Revenge on PS4. Both games are fun. I had more of a blast on the original one on the Sega Dreamcast/N64. We need a new Star Racer game. Sadly EA/Disney don't care about us or making money. EA/Disney could be making a lot of money if they listen to us fans.
One thing I don't get with the PC version of EP1-Racer... why didn't they use the assets from the Arcade version? I know the arcade version's tracks were dumbed down to fit the more immersive control setup, but they could have still used the higher-res textures and higher-polygon count models from the arcade version in the PC version while retaining the original course designs and gameplay of the console versions.
Thanks to the comments I downloaded it on Xbox gold it was free, I almost overlooked because it wasn't racer revenge
The first one (hands down) beats the PS2 port (update/remake/whatever). The sound design is infinitely better on Episode 1 Racer. However, some are implying that the trademark sound of Sebulba’s pod racer is only present in Racer’s Revenge- which is a travesty, for sure.
Not just his engine, but everyone else's, Ep 1 Racer lacked the engine sound the movie had for the Podracers
That's honestly the only thing missing from that game, everything else about the game I love
I like Racer Revenge better, cause the graphics and the more solid pod racers are much more immersive! And the fact you can crash other players is a blst. I imagined that I'm playing the Racer arcade version wwith Revenge, LOL!
Good video
It's insane how cinematic the n64 game is.
The movements of the pods & the sound design are just top notch. The PS2 version looks very stiff and sounds terrible in comparison. Only plus I'd give the Ps2 version is that it has more detailed/high res graphics for the character models.
Love the original N64 Version it was a Great Game Star Wars Racer 1
Why no Remake with Unreal Engine 4? This would be amazing and so many People would buy that!!
memories
game bem legal, não conhecia ainda. ótimo vídeo cara, continue em frente, like
Meh the left one is better...Cant beat the classics.
The second one failed to capture the movement and speed of zooming at several hundred mph
can you pls make garphic history with the elderscrolls (from arena to teso)
Me gusto mas el primero su velocidad y su maneobra es mas real aunque tiene las graficas limitadas pero es mas competitivo a la hora de volar en parejas
The first one is more faster and has that jet and wind sound
Minus the actual engine sound you hear in the movie, which I'd love to hear in the N64 version
The first one is the better game hands down, probably why the series flopped
Only thing missing from Ep 1 Racer is the sound of Sebulba's engine
And Anakin's too
That's cool having Darth Vader in there.
The sound and animations of the second game are quite dull and uninspired, it just doesn't feel as immersive. They could do a lot better for a PS2 game.
I can't exactly say why but I prefer the older Racer visuals to Revenge. Clearly the textures and lighting is a bit better with Revenge, but somehow I prefer the original. Smoother looking, less noise, maybe the camera being a bit higher angle helps, not sure...but yeah, the 1st racer is better imo.
Less noise is a plus for you? I wish each Podracer had their engines sound just like the movie did
@@Anonymys43 I meant visual noise in the textures.
In Revenge how did Anakin get the podracer back? He sold it in the movie
Not to mention he never returned to Tatooine until Attack of the Clones.
I wisb the original had the engine sfx Revenge had, I'd main Anakin just off of that alone
I remember Episode 1 on the Nintendo 64 and it didn’t look too good, but luckily the PC version was ported to the Dreamcast. Still looks and plays brilliant, but in HD it’s almost ruined graphically. Revenge on the PlayStation 2 was a bit of a mess graphically, but played decent. Odd that Revenge on the PlayStation 2 couldn’t match Episode 1 on the Dreamcast graphically. Can’t remember if Revenge had some of Episode 1 tracks or if it had all new tracks. Still, a new Star Wars racer is well overdue. Could just imagine it in VR mode on PlayStation 5. But I’m still waiting for Wave Race 4.....
First one was better, but both are fun
How did you get the PC version to look so good??? How did u get the anti aliasing to work in game? The origin version is horrible with no aliasing...can u please explain?
+Luis Nunez Jr.
I think I used the GOG version!
+Luis Nunez Jr.
Actually I found out that I used the original version with an "x64 - modern installer". But I think that's an outdated way to play this game. If you want the absolute best experience I recommend the GOG version with some tweaks you can find on this page:

Just bought ps4 version of ps2 version and it is million times worse than the older PC one
Played the death out of these both. Glad I can play revenge on the PS4. Plight with the advanced controls feels so good too.
nice;)
Racer revenge needs a pc port
fuck, I lost my original CD years ago
Hope the game is not expensive on amazon
The first one was way more harder and faster. The second one was just a detail upgrade and slower speeds
The PS2 game has better textures and a higher poly count. The PC game has better frame rate and playability.
well ofc there is some year difference between the two, in fact the original racer came out for PC, Dreamcast and N64 and it was supposed to came out for PS1 too but they cancelled it when pretty much ready for launch. There is a generational leap in the middle, although the first racer feels faster, more physical, more vicious in everything.
If you played Revenge on a PS2 and Episode 1 on a Dreamcast I’ll guarantee the textures are much better on Dreamcast due to anti aliasing which was missing from Revenge.
@@MasterControl90original I’d hate to think what it would’ve looked like on PS1.
The one is better, it needs a remake
EPISODE 1 RACER NOW ON SWITCH!
No feeling of speed in revenge
Racer Revenge was a nice evolution, would like a remaster from the First with realism of the Revenge...
Rly? Keep in mind who's developing Star Wars games atm. If EA signs off to someone else sure. But I won't support that company, may it look and feel great payling it
If the old one had the engine sounds from the new one, the old one would win for me.
Yes exactly what I'm saying, that's literally the only W Revenge has over Ep 1 Racer
I'd main Anakin if that meant that I can hear that F1 engine roaring again
Graphics vs Speed felling
Neither. 64 version with dual controllers, one for each engine.
They did exactly that for the new Switch version
I loved the PC version
The first one curb stomps the 2nd one in every way. The 2nd one lacks sense of speed, ambience, immersion AND graphics.
Yeah the first one, even in 2019, holds up as a fun racing game. I got it off GOG recently and have been enjoying in on my PC. The graphics, atmosphere, and gameplay really hold up well. They sure made a classic on that one.
@@willcarlton3906 approved. I downloaded it the other day and still so much fun to play.
the PC version is a lot better, now there are tools to play it at any resolution in 16:9 widescreen, I fucking love it.
The second is sadly only better in model looks like many games :(
The pc version looks exactly like ps4 version
Racer revenge has Better Sounds better graphic but the real game is Episode I Racer. That game has Better Handling and Faster movement.
volkerball3 the animations seem better on the older one too. Racer revenge seems a bit stiff.
Dont know how they went wrong with revenge...
Star Wars Episode I: Racer had better programist, worse graphic. Star Wars: Racer Revenge had better 3d Artists, worse programmers. Yet. I spent my childhood playing HOUNDREDS of hours with PS2 tittle. Don't know really why... It was so engaging. I wish they will create pod racing game in future, with all this phisyhcs raytracing shit. Damage model could be glourius beacuse of no need for license real vehicles, savety etc. Pure Wipeout competition. But it won't happen, not as long as EA greeders will hold license.
Shame.
You would think with people hungry for a white knuckle fast antigrav racer that disney and EA would cash in on a new pod racer at this point.
@Microwave I agree man! We Star Wars fans deserve a new Star Wars Racer game! I own both these games. I have Star Wars Episode 1 Racer on Sega Dreamcast and have Star Wars Racers Revenge on PS4. Both games are fun. I had more of a blast on the original one on the Sega Dreamcast/N64. Disney/EA don't care about us fans. We should try get a sign petition for a new Star Wars Racers game. My friends and I think that we should have a Darth Maul game or something from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. But EA/Disney don't care about us sadly.
I don't play much of Star Wars games (Ep 1 Racer, Force Unleashed 1&2, Battlefront 2 and Squadrons I fuck with) but I need a new Podracing game, same feel and speed as Ep1 Racer but modernized, and I hope to God that it includes the engine noises from the movie
A mi gusto, prefiero el primer juego, el segundo me parece mucho menos dinamico
I never played racer revenge but it looks just bad. I like the grungy look of the original.
I played the PC version once it came out but the PS2 version is new to me, and it sucks!
I believe they both look kind of horrible. I half remember it on PS2. I fully remember not enjoying it. Wipeout or XG3 for this type of game for me.
The PS2 version only have better textures on the characters.
jeez the R.Revenge looks better but the sounds Fx is so laaaame.
Better graphics on the PS2 version, but the weak sound and slow 30fps kill it. PC wins.
Guys please stop hating on racer 2
the only good on ps2 is the original sound
Racer 1 Visual ⭐⭐
Racer 1 Speed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Racer 1 Play ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Racer 2 Visual ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Racer 2 Speed ⭐
Racer 2 Play ⭐⭐
The first one beat no one!!!
I much prefer Racer over Revenge based on graphics. Sure, Revenge looks "better", but I feel like the angles and textures where better in Racer. Though, it looks like the PC version had better tracks than the N64, unless I'm missing something.
Wait ..the PC version had more tracks than the N64 version??
@Anonymys43 I don't think so. I think at the time I had never beaten the game, so I was unaware of the movie accurate Boonta Eve course.
Racer Revenge pure shit!
So basically there is no difference between the 2 games, just a slight graphics improvement.
PC: argues that a game is better because of graphics
PS2: has better graphics
PC: nah are game is better with no explanation to why
El sonido de las turbinas del nuevo juego parecen de un auto viejo ,,,prefiero el star wars racer del 1999
Racer revenge sucks
Racer revenge just sucks... so bad...
man the PS2 version was trash
Racer 2 sucks!
Racer 2003 has a much better sound
No way! It sounds terrible compared the ep1 racer
Racer 2003 may have better sound quality but Racer 1 had way better design to it. It's better crafted than in 2003 to make everything fit. Sure 2003 have the actual engine sound but it's all alone and there's no atmosphere. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner that someone tried to overclock
