My husband had a stroke last year. He was blessed and it didn't have any long-term effects. I showed these to him, and he was so excited to start working on them. I'm a 64 year old man and I had to leave work because I was suffering from anxiety and depression, I really love the simplicity of your Ideas, I am reasonably comfortable so I've being buying small bits and pieces to start woodworking for about 18 months now but didn't know what to make or really have the will to start. I also have a laser printer that I used once doing a test and wrote a simple message to my beautiful wife. Now because of what you said about personalising simple shapes I think I might start making some bits for friends at first to see if they like what I make and then hopefully expand from there. Thank you for this comment, it really meant a lot to know that I was helpful to your situation. One of the reasons I started woodworking was to relieve stress from a stressful job. In my experience woodworking is great at getting you out of your own head and into what you are doing. I wish you the best on your endeavors into woodworking. If you have any questions fell free to ask them. Don't put too much into what friends think of your projects. There is a market for hand made goods and just because your friends aren't into what you make doesn't mean a lot of other people wont be. You could make the best video game ever made but if your friends aren't into video games they wont be very helpful to you for advice.

You have everything you want right now. If you REALLY wanted something, you’d do something to get it. A lot of people say: “Gee, I’d love to have a boat”. If he truly wanted it, he’d work a second job or sell items to raise the money. Heard a high paid motivational speaker say that years ago. p
I'm 2 years into woodworking and i do it as a part time hobby. The tools I started with were a hammer, a hand saw and 2 screwdrivers. That was some hard work for a year or so, but i got it done. I slowly bought electric tools and started taking on bigger projects that paid forbthe new tools. Now I'm purchasing bigger shop tools off of the money I've made from the side hustle. I'm proof that you don't need a big shop with $10,000 in equipment. Oh, my shop is a 7 × 5 enclosed trailer. To all those whiners. Stop criticizing and just go get it done.

@@SageRosado You will get there. I have over 50 years in woodworking. Made a lot of money (Lost a lot of money).... Got into the Laundromat Business. And now have 3000 SqFt Shop. Sometimes you have to do other work to be able to afford your passion!

I’m a very senior citizen that is looking for fairly easy craft projects. At my age it takes a lot to impress me but you really did! Great ideas, easy to follow plans, and you didn’t ramble on. I started my Etsy shop in April 2023. I initially added some bottle openers, balancing wine bottle holders, plant stands and such and got nothing. I added a bird feeder and squirrel feeder a few weeks later and by August, I was blowin' and goin'. I also added some cedar jack o' lanterns for Halloween and those did well, too. I have sold over 400 units since I started. Not quite the volume you have done but my items take a couple of days to make, plus I also have a day job. I'm averaging about 30 orders a month and that keeps me just busy enough that I don't feel overwhelmed. The point is, it can be done. You gotta do your homework to find a good product, or set of products, to sell, but it can be done.
That is awesome brother, I'm glad to hear that congratulations. Yea Esty is strange like that, when It takes of it takes off. I think having a few sales under your belt help make everyone feel more comfortable, etsy and the customers.

Thanks man. Not looking to make money off your idea, but people thought I was the smartest guy around yesterday. My nonprofit did an information table at a Halloween event. I wanted something inexpensive for kids to do and cut up and sanded 40 triangles so kids could make their own candy corn. It was a big hit. I’m thinking same triangles for a Christmas table and instead of candy corn, Christmas trees! Great idea.

I started with tools I bought scouting estate sales. Then I upgraded when I learned which tools I used the most, and sold the old tools for about what I initially paid. I'm a bargain hunter and I always find new tools on sale, too. Black Friday is a great time to find deals.
Couldn't agree more. I think its like other people have said in the comments, If woodworking is something you want to do you will find a way to build up your tool collection, yard sales, estate sales, facebook marketplace etc. If not you'll just complain about tool prices!
I had no idea there was such a market for so many simple products. Let me clarify, that I think the items you are offering look great, but how many of us make some little simple things for ourselves or friends, that we don't realize there is an actual market for. That Solo cup and marker holder is something almost everyone who has parties, cookouts, etc. could use - genius.
I used to think the same way! my wife and others have been telling me for years to make stuff to sell and I always said who would pay for this stuff when they can make it themselves! My dad was an amazing wood worker. He suffered some health problems over the years and I’m going to try to get him back into it with something similar to this. I remember when I did really detailed miniatures and sold them on Etsy, one day I was looking at phone cases for something different and unique-and literally stumbled on someone who used one of my incomplete miniature builds as the photo artwork on her cell phone cases 😂. Didn’t even use the completed version of the piece, she just stole an image of my half completed work off my blog and used it to decorate her phone cases for sale. That’s the moment that I knew people will literally copy ANYTHING and use it to make a dime 😂
wow that's crazy that you stumbled on it!! I think integrity has taken a backseat to making a dime now a days. I guess I didn't have it that bad compared to you! 😂😂😂 at least they took their own pictures!
@@jascogoods no, you really did get it worse than me because it impacted your sales. It didn’t mine, it wasn’t a competing market and no one has ever been able to adequately duplicate the product that I make. They do poorly executed copies with far less detail, but they aren’t have as good as mine or as detailed. A lot of clay sculpting and random oddball parts went into my miniature builds, things like old metal parts and even old TV tubes. Really really hard to duplicate down to the fine details, because I have days and days of work into them. Most people want a faster to make easy turn over item than that. I did it first the passion and enjoyment rather than monetary gain and it shows. I had the time and lack of need to be able to do that as an enjoyable hobby. I’m lucky in that regard. Because I did them well, I got published in magazines a few times. If you google in the images section “miniature headless horseman 1:12 scale” or “miniature candy trolley 1:12 scale” mine are the first results shown. The top few search results. So a phone case isn’t in competition with those items.

I like these ideas! My father died and left me a miter saw and some rudimentary tools. I just recently after two years since his passing started trying to learn. These seem like fun easy projects!

I love that you emphasized using simpler, less expensive tools to start out with. I am always saying stuff like that to people. Love the mountains, I have been meaning to make a set for my friend, got them all cut out, just need time to sand and paint them for her lol.
Thank you, I think people just don't know that because you see an expensive miter saw that doesn't mean you can't do the same thing with a cheaper on or even a hand saw in some cases. Good luck on the mountains, I'm sure they'll come out great.
@@jascogoods the biggest problem is people dont know where woodworking started from. it didn't start with CNC, it started with axes and eventually upgraded to chisels, then hand saw, then powered circular saws. maybe a history on a tools lineage might help people understand that when they see someone using a $50k table saw that the same work can be done with a hand saw or even a chisel.
I am a full time high school teacher, and my students who know me best say that the only thing I ever buy full price is my food. They’re right! Estate sales, FB yard sale, mini nickel, yard/garage sale, free stuff on the corner that needs a little repair; I outfitted an entire starter shop (circular and jig saw, hand tools, and sand paper, even workable pieces of maple, oak, cherry, and teak) for under $300 after repairs. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

And I'm ALWAYS thinking that it's not good enough. And after seeing this I must say, that I am TOTALLY SURPISED! Perhaps, I really should give it a try. I am not offended by your comment at all!! I too have had my friends and family telling me to sell my stuff for years and I also said "why would anyone buy this stuff when they could make it themselves" It wasn't until I saw things my wife received as gifts from coworkers that they bought on Esty that I thought well if they can do it so can I. One of the gifts was a piece of wood like a 1x3 with my wife's name burned into it! That's it, it wasn't even sanded or stained and when I looked them up it was being sold for $20!!! So I just started doing some research but I didn't start off selling mountains the first stuff I picked didn't sell that well so I had to do more research and keep adjusting the plan.
Single women. Let's just be realistic. Divorce rates are up there, and these cat moms like to buy things, and there is no man in their life to tell them they can make it for cheap. Also, we have lots of low-T men that even if they thought they could make it for cheap, they are too lazy to do so.

I started with the same Ryobi saw and upgraded to the same Dewalt! I hate the tool comments as well. I went to pawn shops and craigslist when I first started and spent about $300 total for a basic setup. My father gave me a 1980’s craftsman tablesaw which I fixed up and upgraded. That same tablesaw can be found on marketplace and Craigslist usually for $75-$200. People need to stop complaining and start doing.
That's a crazy coincidence! It was such a difference between the two saws! I wish I would have gotten the Makita though so I could put it up against the wall, the Dewalt needs too much clearance behind it.
I do not understand why people get all butthurt about seeing someone with a nice shop full of tools. when you are in to woodworking you LOVE to buy tools, at least that is the case for me and everyone I knew who is in the trades, not just woodworking, any tradesman will like upgrading their tools because it makes the work easier faster and better. I am a cabinet maker /cabinet installer and finish carpenter....needless to say I probably have more tools than the average guy out there that is just tinkering around. Lately I have been upgrading all my tools to Festool....totally unessisary and super expensive but they are just SO good it makes it an absolute joy to do things that I had grown tired of before.plus I have made enough money doing what I do that I can easily afford them so why not? I think maybe these people complaining about how many tools you have are those who 1) think woodworking is just super super easy and a way they can make money with no skills at all and 2)they want to make 100k a year with a hand saw and a hammer.....not gonna happen, you do need to invest in at least SOME tools if you are going to be effective at woodworking. I got started with about $250.00 worth of tools (30 years ago so now the same would prob cost say $750 - $1000) with that you can do something, then build on it.
Yes I couldn't agree more. Good for you brother, you are proof that hard work and dedication pays off. I have never used a Festool but I am so curious as to how well they work because of all the great things I hear about them. But I can understand the feeling us upgrading a tool and how much it improves the woodworking experience.

30 seconds in I knew I loved this video! I’ve made random home decor but actually for wedding decorations. I used my dads saw and when my fence was torn down by a storm I made sure to keep the wood. Anyway the point is…I love this!
Never despise small beginnings i know people that have made major business starting on a shoestring . It’s not the tools it’s how driven you are to make your business successful
I own a table saw, radial arm saw, router table, two decent miter saws, several drills, a name brand pocket hole jig, several sanders, and countless other tools... For under 500.00.
I love the ideas! It's very refreshing to see a "beginner" video for items you can actually build without a ton of knowledge & expensive tools. It's amazing what I have built with less than 300 dollars worth of equipment. Harbor freight is definitely not the best it gets gets the job done on the cheap!
I completely agree. There are so many things you can build as a beginner on a budget, it might just take a little more effort and imagination but it can definitely be done.
Now i have to say anyone that said it took 10,000.00 dollars in tools to build those items is a complete idiot. Dont listen to naysayer they're not worth your time. Great video .

I started woodworking by taking a class at a community college. Once the semester was over I saved up some money and bought a used ShopSmith Mark 5 off of Craigslist for about $200. Little elbow grease and lots of rereading the manual later I have a working machine. I have had zero experience with engines and machine maintenance before getting it but I'm enjoying learning!
We all steal ideas normally. We often have our own takes of stuff but it’s actually stealing really. And I don’t have a problem with it. As long as a diff take of it. Or you could think that its we just love the idea. And with woodworking, is there really a exact copy without templates.
Unless you invent something, you are stealing someone's idea. Every single part of woodworking and every part of our lives is stealing ideas. Most people call this leaning from others to expand their knowledge and skills.

Appreciate this man! I'm struggling a bit financially and wanted to make a few extra bucks by making something with scrap wood in my garage, however I wasn't sure what exactly to do. Sorry to hear you been struggling, I think a lot of us are lately. I wouldn't limit yourself to just the triangles. You should look through Etsy and try to find other ideas that don't have as much competition and do a few different things. people buy things they like, like art and different décor to give their home a certain feel. I thing most if not all people spend their money on things that someone else would think is wasteful. That's the great thing about America, we are free to waste our money on whatever we want!
@@jascogoods Everywhere this is possible, but this is not good, quite the opposite. What good is it to destroy half a forest for useless items? It is better to give them something meaningful like for the homeless people living on the street, you support people who cannot afford an expensive operation that depends on whether they will live or die and similar things.

I don't get why people buy 99 percent of the products I see on the market. I don't get why so many people pay so much extra money to have someone deliver their fast food. Why are people paying so much for clothing and accessories for their game characters? The better question for you to ponder is what can you make that someone will give you money for.

wow I am sorry that people would discourage you like that. Who would put someone down for enjoying woodworking? You don't have to sell anything to be able to enjoy making things out of wood. In my experience woodworking is very good for anxiety and depression. Its a good way to relieve stress. So even if you just made things for yourself and friends and didn't make a penny off of it, it is has still brought a tremendous amount of value to you. You just do what makes you happy and don's worry about what people say.
I started from zero after emigrating. Did some small things to sell like house numbers and other silly adornments with a japanese saw, a coping saw, square and sand paper. Eventually I made my and my wife's bed using only joinery with a handsaw, a jack plane, a square and some chisels. It's very hard work but any of the things seen online can be done with cheap hand tools and skill. Like people have done for millenia
Thank you for sharing your story, it is inspiring. Its funny that people don't think of how people built everything without power tools just 100 years ago. People built higher quality furniture then than they do now.

Glad I found this page, good stuff on here. Pay no attention to the naysayers man, people always got some stupid s* to say. I buy tools at auctions all the time. Instead of paying full price for tools to experiment on, you can find good starter tools to learn with and not sink tons of money into.

Great video and you have clever ideas. I cannot believe how many have copied your pieces. Shame on them!!! I paint on wood pieces in great detail but people hesitate paying for my work due to pricing. I have always loved working with wood but afraid to use power tools. I have had a Dremel hobbie table saw for over 20 years and have never used it. I rely on purchasing wood shapes on clearance. Love your creative ideas!!!
Thank you for the great comment and sharing a little of yourself. I am still afraid of the power tools sometimes.😂 Its the fear that keeps us from getting to comfortable and doing something stupid. You should try a scroll saw or a laser cutter. They are a safe way to cut shapes into wood.

My husband does woodwork, usually for when someone needs a certain item, then he tells them what it would cost and they balk and usually pay. We're in CO and he has a friend that gets a lot of beetle kill wood so I shall show him your channel and maybe he can make smaller things using that wood instead of big things. Our son does leather work on request but won't make little items to sell, too busy in his real job. He started by going to a leather company to be mentored and his stitching is really good, the pay just wasn't good enough. they both weld and have made some pretty cool things. I like the little book holder and mountains are cute.
wow you have a talented family. I see the leather work becoming more and more popular now a days. Most people wont get rich doing this stuff but there are so many new ways to make money from doing the things you love that it beats a 9 to 5 if you can pull off the transition. Please make a more in depth video! I’ve always loved building stuff and I would love to do woodworking as a hobby. At the moment I just build some practical things like plant racks and shelves, even some cat shelves lol. I just have no idea how to sell my stuff and I don’t have much as I’m in college at the moment. A tutorial on some simple hand tool projects to sell to get started and build a foundation would be awesome too!

Due to family health issues I had to retire early to tend my family and leave my lovely 4K Sq Ft home and move into a 1700 Sq Ft house. Needless to say, I have quite a few items I will have to part with. Since the income is now fixed, I will need to sell a lot of them (from clothing to furniture, to kitchen, decoration and electronic products) but don't know what the best way to deliver them. I have a few ideas about advertising, but then comes the shipping and packing cost. How did you approach that, there are several options but how did you find the one that fit your budget and that provided the right protection and time delivery you felt comfortable with? Your message has brought a bright light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. Thank you for the work you do and for sharing your ideas.
I am really sorry to hear about your family health issues. I hope whatever the issue is that it is treatable and they recover quickly. I will say a prayer for you and your family. It is really touching that my little video helped you find some hope and I really appreciate you sharing your story. as for your questions, I don't know the size items you are dealing with but for what I was shipping I purchased a scale and weighed everything. Then I used the post office website or the Etsy app to calculate charges. Your best bet if you are selling larger items is to try Facebook marketplace and then you don't have to pay any money for shipping. If you are selling used items eBay would probably be your best bet. I used to sell on eBay all the time because I have always collected actions figures and would buy and sell them on eBay. If that is how you sell your stuff then you would most likely ship through eBay so you would put all the information about the item you are shipping such as box size and weight into eBay and eBay would give you the shipping price and they would also give you a shipping discount that would be cheaper than if you went through the post office. For boxes I used amazon and also Walmart sells them too. Try to get the smallest box possible for what you are shipping because dimensions will change the price of shipping too. I hope this helps.

I lost all of my shop tools in the late 80 due to a divorce, I recently retired and wanted to get back in to wood working, I replaced my entire shop for less then $750 by watching sales and buying used tools, just a few bucks more then I paid for my first table saw in the 80's
She even took you're tools!! Sorry about the divorce but that is awesome you were able to rebuild your shop! and that makes me feel relieved I was good with my numbers on a shop cost. Thanks for the comment brother, maybe you need to make some UA-cam videos in your new shop!
@@jascogoods I missed the tools the most, all it takes is patience and a little mechanical knowledge ( which you can get from yt vids). It took very little time, and I live in Podunk, where the county population is 5K...when the snowbirds are in town

I built a complete shop with quality used stationary tools for less than $500. Table saw, jointer, planer, drill press, 2 sizes of band saw. Just have to look around and be prepared to buy at a moments notice.

No problem, thank you for the comment. I only ever used plain old common pine. One time I made a Christmas tree out of some walnut and only put a clearcoat on it and it came out amazing! But if you are building these to sell I'd say pine will get you the most profit. That's not to say there might not be a place for some higher priced hardwood versions.
My husband had a stroke last year. He was blessed and it didn't have any long-term effects. I showed these to him, and he was so excited to start working on them. I'm a 64 year old man and I had to leave work because I was suffering from anxiety and depression, I really love the simplicity of your Ideas, I am reasonably comfortable so I've being buying small bits and pieces to start woodworking for about 18 months now but didn't know what to make or really have the will to start.
I also have a laser printer that I used once doing a test and wrote a simple message to my beautiful wife. Now because of what you said about personalising simple shapes I think I might start making some bits for friends at first to see if they like what I make and then hopefully expand from there.

Don't put too much into what friends think of your projects. There is a market for hand made goods and just because your friends aren't into what you make doesn't mean a lot of other people wont be. You could make the best video game ever made but if your friends aren't into video games they wont be very helpful to you for advice.

I'm 2 years into woodworking and i do it as a part time hobby. The tools I started with were a hammer, a hand saw and 2 screwdrivers. That was some hard work for a year or so, but i got it done. I slowly bought electric tools and started taking on bigger projects that paid forbthe new tools. Now I'm purchasing bigger shop tools off of the money I've made from the side hustle.
I'm proof that you don't need a big shop with $10,000 in equipment.

I started my Etsy shop in April 2023. I initially added some bottle openers, balancing wine bottle holders, plant stands and such and got nothing. I added a bird feeder and squirrel feeder a few weeks later and by August, I was blowin' and goin'. I also added some cedar jack o' lanterns for Halloween and those did well, too.
I have sold over 400 units since I started. Not quite the volume you have done but my items take a couple of days to make, plus I also have a day job. I'm averaging about 30 orders a month and that keeps me just busy enough that I don't feel overwhelmed.
The point is, it can be done. You gotta do your homework to find a good product, or set of products, to sell, but it can be done.
That's pretty awesome! Perserverance and some hard work. I'm pretty well set up to start.

Thanks man. Not looking to make money off your idea, but people thought I was the smartest guy around yesterday. My nonprofit did an information table at a Halloween event. I wanted something inexpensive for kids to do and cut up and sanded 40 triangles so kids could make their own candy corn. It was a big hit. I’m thinking same triangles for a Christmas table and instead of candy corn, Christmas trees! Great idea.

I started with tools I bought scouting estate sales. Then I upgraded when I learned which tools I used the most, and sold the old tools for about what I initially paid. I'm a bargain hunter and I always find new tools on sale, too. Black Friday is a great time to find deals.
Couldn't agree more. I think its like other people have said in the comments, If woodworking is something you want to do you will find a way to build up your tool collection, yard sales, estate sales, facebook marketplace etc. If not you'll just complain about tool prices!
I had no idea there was such a market for so many simple products. Let me clarify, that I think the items you are offering look great, but how many of us make some little simple things for ourselves or friends, that we don't realize there is an actual market for. That Solo cup and marker holder is something almost everyone who has parties, cookouts, etc. could use - genius.

My dad was an amazing wood worker. He suffered some health problems over the years and I’m going to try to get him back into it with something similar to this. I remember when I did really detailed miniatures and sold them on Etsy, one day I was looking at phone cases for something different and unique-and literally stumbled on someone who used one of my incomplete miniature builds as the photo artwork on her cell phone cases 😂. Didn’t even use the completed version of the piece, she just stole an image of my half completed work off my blog and used it to decorate her phone cases for sale. That’s the moment that I knew people will literally copy ANYTHING and use it to make a dime 😂

@@jascogoods no, you really did get it worse than me because it impacted your sales. It didn’t mine, it wasn’t a competing market and no one has ever been able to adequately duplicate the product that I make. They do poorly executed copies with far less detail, but they aren’t have as good as mine or as detailed. A lot of clay sculpting and random oddball parts went into my miniature builds, things like old metal parts and even old TV tubes. Really really hard to duplicate down to the fine details, because I have days and days of work into them. Most people want a faster to make easy turn over item than that. I did it first the passion and enjoyment rather than monetary gain and it shows. I had the time and lack of need to be able to do that as an enjoyable hobby. I’m lucky in that regard. Because I did them well, I got published in magazines a few times. If you google in the images section “miniature headless horseman 1:12 scale” or “miniature candy trolley 1:12 scale” mine are the first results shown. The top few search results. So a phone case isn’t in competition with those items.

I like these ideas! My father died and left me a miter saw and some rudimentary tools. I just recently after two years since his passing started trying to learn. These seem like fun easy projects!

I love that you emphasized using simpler, less expensive tools to start out with. I am always saying stuff like that to people. Love the mountains, I have been meaning to make a set for my friend, got them all cut out, just need time to sand and paint them for her lol.

@@jascogoods the biggest problem is people dont know where woodworking started from. it didn't start with CNC, it started with axes and eventually upgraded to chisels, then hand saw, then powered circular saws.
maybe a history on a tools lineage might help people understand that when they see someone using a $50k table saw that the same work can be done with a hand saw or even a chisel.
I am a full time high school teacher, and my students who know me best say that the only thing I ever buy full price is my food. They’re right! Estate sales, FB yard sale, mini nickel, yard/garage sale, free stuff on the corner that needs a little repair; I outfitted an entire starter shop (circular and jig saw, hand tools, and sand paper, even workable pieces of maple, oak, cherry, and teak) for under $300 after repairs. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

I am not offended by your comment at all!! I too have had my friends and family telling me to sell my stuff for years and I also said "why would anyone buy this stuff when they could make it themselves" It wasn't until I saw things my wife received as gifts from coworkers that they bought on Esty that I thought well if they can do it so can I. One of the gifts was a piece of wood like a 1x3 with my wife's name burned into it! That's it, it wasn't even sanded or stained and when I looked them up it was being sold for $20!!! So I just started doing some research but I didn't start off selling mountains the first stuff I picked didn't sell that well so I had to do more research and keep adjusting the plan.
Well after all these platitudes, are you actually going to make any of these sellable items ,or jus dream about doing it
Single women. Let's just be realistic. Divorce rates are up there, and these cat moms like to buy things, and there is no man in their life to tell them they can make it for cheap.
Also, we have lots of low-T men that even if they thought they could make it for cheap, they are too lazy to do so.

I started with the same Ryobi saw and upgraded to the same Dewalt!
I hate the tool comments as well. I went to pawn shops and craigslist when I first started and spent about $300 total for a basic setup. My father gave me a 1980’s craftsman tablesaw which I fixed up and upgraded. That same tablesaw can be found on marketplace and Craigslist usually for $75-$200. People need to stop complaining and start doing.
That's a crazy coincidence! It was such a difference between the two saws! I wish I would have gotten the Makita though so I could put it up against the wall, the Dewalt needs too much clearance behind it.

I do not understand why people get all butthurt about seeing someone with a nice shop full of tools. when you are in to woodworking you LOVE to buy tools, at least that is the case for me and everyone I knew who is in the trades, not just woodworking, any tradesman will like upgrading their tools because it makes the work easier faster and better. I am a cabinet maker /cabinet installer and finish carpenter....needless to say I probably have more tools than the average guy out there that is just tinkering around. Lately I have been upgrading all my tools to Festool....totally unessisary and super expensive but they are just SO good it makes it an absolute joy to do things that I had grown tired of before.plus I have made enough money doing what I do that I can easily afford them so why not? I think maybe these people complaining about how many tools you have are those who 1) think woodworking is just super super easy and a way they can make money with no skills at all and 2)they want to make 100k a year with a hand saw and a hammer.....not gonna happen, you do need to invest in at least SOME tools if you are going to be effective at woodworking. I got started with about $250.00 worth of tools (30 years ago so now the same would prob cost say $750 - $1000) with that you can do something, then build on it.
Yes I couldn't agree more. Good for you brother, you are proof that hard work and dedication pays off. I have never used a Festool but I am so curious as to how well they work because of all the great things I hear about them. But I can understand the feeling us upgrading a tool and how much it improves the woodworking experience.

30 seconds in I knew I loved this video! I’ve made random home decor but actually for wedding decorations. I used my dads saw and when my fence was torn down by a storm I made sure to keep the wood. Anyway the point is…I love this!

I love the ideas! It's very refreshing to see a "beginner" video for items you can actually build without a ton of knowledge & expensive tools. It's amazing what I have built with less than 300 dollars worth of equipment. Harbor freight is definitely not the best it gets gets the job done on the cheap!
I completely agree. There are so many things you can build as a beginner on a budget, it might just take a little more effort and imagination but it can definitely be done.
Now i have to say anyone that said it took 10,000.00 dollars in tools to build those items is a complete idiot. Dont listen to naysayer they're not worth your time. Great video .

I started woodworking by taking a class at a community college. Once the semester was over I saved up some money and bought a used ShopSmith Mark 5 off of Craigslist for about $200. Little elbow grease and lots of rereading the manual later I have a working machine. I have had zero experience with engines and machine maintenance before getting it but I'm enjoying learning!

it's sad that people will steal ideas, I guess the only way around it is to build pieces that they don't have the skill to make.
We all steal ideas normally. We often have our own takes of stuff but it’s actually stealing really. And I don’t have a problem with it. As long as a diff take of it. Or you could think that its we just love the idea. And with woodworking, is there really a exact copy without templates.
Unless you invent something, you are stealing someone's idea. Every single part of woodworking and every part of our lives is stealing ideas.
Most people call this leaning from others to expand their knowledge and skills.

Sorry to hear you been struggling, I think a lot of us are lately. I wouldn't limit yourself to just the triangles. You should look through Etsy and try to find other ideas that don't have as much competition and do a few different things. wow I am sorry that people would discourage you like that. Who would put someone down for enjoying woodworking? You don't have to sell anything to be able to enjoy making things out of wood. In my experience woodworking is very good for anxiety and depression. Its a good way to relieve stress. So even if you just made things for yourself and friends and didn't make a penny off of it, it is has still brought a tremendous amount of value to you. You just do what makes you happy and don's worry about what people say.
I started from zero after emigrating. Did some small things to sell like house numbers and other silly adornments with a japanese saw, a coping saw, square and sand paper. Eventually I made my and my wife's bed using only joinery with a handsaw, a jack plane, a square and some chisels. It's very hard work but any of the things seen online can be done with cheap hand tools and skill. Like people have done for millenia

Glad I found this page, good stuff on here. Pay no attention to the naysayers man, people always got some stupid s* to say. I buy tools at auctions all the time. Instead of paying full price for tools to experiment on, you can find good starter tools to learn with and not sink tons of money into.

Great video and you have clever ideas. I cannot believe how many have copied your pieces. Shame on them!!! I paint on wood pieces in great detail but people hesitate paying for my work due to pricing. I have always loved working with wood but afraid to use power tools. I have had a Dremel hobbie table saw for over 20 years and have never used it. I rely on purchasing wood shapes on clearance. Love your creative ideas!!!
Thank you for the great comment and sharing a little of yourself. I am still afraid of the power tools sometimes.😂 Its the fear that keeps us from getting to comfortable and doing something stupid. You should try a scroll saw or a laser cutter. They are a safe way to cut shapes into wood.

My husband does woodwork, usually for when someone needs a certain item, then he tells them what it would cost and they balk and usually pay. We're in CO and he has a friend that gets a lot of beetle kill wood so I shall show him your channel and maybe he can make smaller things using that wood instead of big things. Our son does leather work on request but won't make little items to sell, too busy in his real job. He started by going to a leather company to be mentored and his stitching is really good, the pay just wasn't good enough. they both weld and have made some pretty cool things. I like the little book holder and mountains are cute.
wow you have a talented family. I see the leather work becoming more and more popular now a days. Most people wont get rich doing this stuff but there are so many new ways to make money from doing the things you love that it beats a 9 to 5 if you can pull off the transition. Please make a more in depth video! I’ve always loved building stuff and I would love to do woodworking as a hobby. At the moment I just build some practical things like plant racks and shelves, even some cat shelves lol. I just have no idea how to sell my stuff and I don’t have much as I’m in college at the moment. A tutorial on some simple hand tool projects to sell to get started and build a foundation would be awesome too!

Due to family health issues I had to retire early to tend my family and leave my lovely 4K Sq Ft home and move into a 1700 Sq Ft house. Needless to say, I have quite a few items I will have to part with. Since the income is now fixed, I will need to sell a lot of them (from clothing to furniture, to kitchen, decoration and electronic products) but don't know what the best way to deliver them. I have a few ideas about advertising, but then comes the shipping and packing cost. How did you approach that, there are several options but how did you find the one that fit your budget and that provided the right protection and time delivery you felt comfortable with?

I am really sorry to hear about your family health issues. I hope whatever the issue is that it is treatable and they recover quickly. I will say a prayer for you and your family. It is really touching that my little video helped you find some hope and I really appreciate you sharing your story. as for your questions, I don't know the size items you are dealing with but for what I was shipping I purchased a scale and weighed everything. Then I used the post office website or the Etsy app to calculate charges. Your best bet if you are selling larger items is to try Facebook marketplace and then you don't have to pay any money for shipping. If you are selling used items eBay would probably be your best bet. I used to sell on eBay all the time because I have always collected actions figures and would buy and sell them on eBay. If that is how you sell your stuff then you would most likely ship through eBay so you would put all the information about the item you are shipping such as box size and weight into eBay and eBay would give you the shipping price and they would also give you a shipping discount that would be cheaper than if you went through the post office. For boxes I used amazon and also Walmart sells them too. Try to get the smallest box possible for what you are shipping because dimensions will change the price of shipping too. I hope this helps.

I lost all of my shop tools in the late 80 due to a divorce, I recently retired and wanted to get back in to wood working, I replaced my entire shop for less then $750 by watching sales and buying used tools, just a few bucks more then I paid for my first table saw in the 80's
She even took you're tools!! Sorry about the divorce but that is awesome you were able to rebuild your shop! and that makes me feel relieved I was good with my numbers on a shop cost. Thanks for the comment brother, maybe you need to make some UA-cam videos in your new shop!

I built a complete shop with quality used stationary tools for less than $500. Table saw, jointer, planer, drill press, 2 sizes of band saw. Just have to look around and be prepared to buy at a moments notice.

No problem, thank you for the comment. I only ever used plain old common pine. One time I made a Christmas tree out of some walnut and only put a clearcoat on it and it came out amazing! But if you are building these to sell I'd say pine will get you the most profit. That's not to say there might not be a place for some higher priced hardwood versions.
