A good rule of thumb for Etsy on how many of an item has been sold is to take how many reviews that specific item has, and multiply it by 10. If there are 50 review on a specific item, you can count on them having likely sold 500 of those items. This based on the statistic that 1/10 people leave a review, which is pretty solid across the board.

For your question: Side grain sticking out on bottom. But make it stick out about 3/8 or 1/2 inch from the sides (and maybe the front) and pop a round over on it. That'll take it from ugly side grain to a design element. Then do the same on the top. Also, try milk paint. It should give you less hassle with the sanding/distressing.
That is an excellent Idea!! I almost feel stupid for not thinking of that!! Thank you it is really appreciated. I haven't used milk paint, Ill have to give it a try. Can you get it from a big box hardware store like home depot?

Thank you, It would be awesome to see Ireland and have a burger and a pint with you. I am really glad my video was helpful for you. I was in the same boat, only making things for family and friends because I didn't think anyone would pay money for the stuff I was making. It wasn't until my wife received a gift from her coworker that I realized I could sell my stuff. It was literally a piece of scrap wood with my wife's name on it and when I looked it up it was being sold on etsy for $19.99 After that I started looking into selling my stuff.
You find that dowl jig unstable and the handle unwieldy because you're using it upside for some of these dowel holes. The 4 protruding cylinders "on top" are supposed to be used exactly like your center line finder. Turn it over and have one on each side of the work piece, then holding the handle, turn the jig until one touch one each side, then the middle dowel guide hole will be both centred on the work piece and the jig much more stable by being braced against the sides with the tension of your hand.
someone else said the same thing! 😂😂😂 I have to go to my garage and try what you are saying!! I watched the video from the manufacturer but it wouldn't be the first time I used a tool upside down!! 😂😂
It is really great that you show mistakes. One of the problems I discover when I try to replicate a project from a typical UA-cam video is that something will happen that wasn’t mentioned in the video and troubleshooted there. So this is really valuable. Thanks!!
Thank you I appreciate the comment. I started showing the mistakes because I didn't want anyone to think I was pretending to be an expert so I'm glad people seem to like it.
thank you for this comment, it makes making these videos even that much better for me. Its great to hear young people are into woodworking, its people like you that are going to keep this art alive.
The Benny hill sound, hadn’t heard that in years!😂 I saw a video of a guy making wood hinges. I def am going to have to build one of these for our counter top space,
Probably already been said but you're using the dowel jig upside down. The plastic pegs on it self centre the hole on the edge of the timber. It sits on different angles depending on which size hole/dowel you're using.

It's cool to see someone else have as much fun wood-work'n, figure'n stuff out as you go, cause you're not use'n actual plans, you're go'n by a picture earlier that morn'n, or even a couple days ago. You don't wanna make it exactly like the one you seen on Facebook, or wherever. Of course, they didn't drag me to it, make me open it up , play around with it, find some I like, and save them for later, no... they just insisted, all I had to do was go download it😢.
🤣🤣🤣 Your comment had me laughing! thank you for the encouragement and advice. I agree, you have to mess something up a few times before you get it just how you want or at least till you figure out where the problems are going to be. I was gonna use some music but most people said they don't like the music in videos anyways so that works for me because Its one less thing I have to edit into the videos.
My first time here. Love the video. Love the humming. I would build it just to hide the ding dongs in. I love storage items. So many variations you can apply to this one. Love the idea of strips on top. Thanks for sharing. I will be back.
If you notice the doweling jig that he is using is getting the holes worn out so they aren’t tight anymore. If you have to rely on those dowels, they may not make a secure enough connection (but they might) If you like dowels, I highly recommend the dowelmax jig. For what you get, it is hands down worth the money. Tight tolerances on the aluminum, brass screws and hardened steel inserts for the drill guides. Most companies don’t have the hardened steel so the inserts wear out and everything gets sloppy. It would be worth reaching out to dowelmax at a minimum
I have heard of the dowelmax jig but they are really expensive like $225 and this one was only $10 😂 I know you get what you pay for. I think the bigger problem is that its all plastic so it has give and its hard to hold still while you are drilling. I don't know if it applies to dowels too but a lot of woodworkers on UA-cam that do joinery test say that a little slack in the connection such as in a rabbit joint allows for more glue and make a stronger joint. It is a good ideo to reach out to them and see if they will send me one to review though. Thank you for the comment.
I bought a doweling jig from harbor freight for $25 that is aluminum body with hardened steel guides. I don’t remember the brand, but it works great and hasn’t gotten sloppy after a couple of hundred dowels…
@@Domarnett I would love to know the name of that one. Almost every single one I researched before buying had numerous complaints of the inserts going egg shaped because they were not hardened
@@Domarnett I’m a huge harbor freight fan as of the last couple years, so seriously if you can find the name, I really do want to know. I want a second set running around.
You sir, are an absolute dork. I love your videos! :) They are very informative, fun, and you’re honest about the process and not just showing us a glow up. Loved the magnet marking idea. Definitely not just a hat rack. 😂 One new subscriber. Glad I tripped over your channel!
Thank you, I am definitely a dork!! 😂😂😂 Thank you for all the love and encouragement, It is really appreciated!! I am also glad you tripped over my channel.
You kept asking for comments on this or that but I wouldn't change a thing my friend. You have got it going on. Your style of humor is natural and flows with the project. I have to admit, I'm jealous, wish I could keep up the build and banter thing. My mind is usually off wandering. Keep up the great show to go, I'll tune in. It's inspiring, I mean it. You darn near had me in stitches at one time or three.
Thank you so much for all the encouragement, It really means a lot. A lot of the stuff I say I add later in a voiceover. When I am building I do get lost in what I am doing like you and say the wrong thing or just completely space what I was saying. 😂😂😂
I am new to building things. Could you tell me does that dowl hole tool do angles? I am making frames and i can not get them to stay lined up with just wood glue and cant clamp them obviously 😅
I don't believe it does do angles. They make a clamp that's like a strap that works really good for clamping frames. I got one on amazon for less than $20. If you have a table saw, there is a jig you can make that enables you to cut splines into the frame for extra strength. there are lot of videos on UA-cam for how to make the jig. Thank you for the comment.
Hi! Just started watching your videos. I looked up the original plans. Can you share them? The ones i saw were on Ana White but i can't find where it specifies how to built the front face. This was a great project. Thanks!
Thank you. I don't have any plans yet, I'm still learning how to use the program that helps you design plans. I just looked at the ones I saw on etsy and changed them as I went.
Good job. I think if the hinges were placed on the inside it would look better. On the other hand, soft woods are porous, to avoid the proliferation of bacteria, the floor of the shelves should be lined with self-adhesive plastic paper. A greeting from Spain.
Hello Spain, thank you for your advice, it is appreciated. You are probably right about the hinges but It would be more work to cut the groves for them so I would have to try it and see if its worth the extra effort. My wife is going to get shelf liner from Costco. Its not adhesive but it sticks well.
I might try this using cedar fence pickets. You get to add the natural bug repellent to the description. It also might be light enough to make it a wall hanger as a option. There'll be seams but that's just ventilation. 😅
You gained another sub today. Love the humor, love your down to earth style, love the it doesn’t have to be perfect rule. This channel will grow if you keep it up! ‘Merica!
Been thinking of good things to make to sell and i thought of a great one you could do. I made an awful version of it in HS but i figure you could make it a lot better. It was an Out House TP Dispenser. Door on the front, shelf inside to hold an extra roll and an opening in the bottom for the TP to go through. Just thought it would fit your style. Love the vids.
A few people have said that and I'm pretty sure they showed it in the video I watched from Milescraft. I have to experiment with it some more. Thank you for the comment.
It really depends on what you are looking to do with it. The DeWalt is pretty good but it takes up a lot of space for the big one I use because it slides on rails that need a lot of space behind the saw. It makes great cuts and I love the shadow line it uses for cutting and Its really accurate in my experience. A lot of people have told me the bosch miter saw works good and it uses a different sliding system so you can put the back of it right up against the wall. The Makita is really good too because it can also be put up against the wall. If you aren't cutting anything big you could just use a smaller 10 or 7 1/2 in DeWalt. For a budget friendly one I hear the Kobalt one is good too. I would watch some reviews to get a better idea. It can be a big ticket tool that youll have for years so its worth a little research. Thank you for the comment.
Just add some crown moulding on the top where the overhang isn't the same...put that on along with the sides and have more basket storage up top...solved!😊
What's the app you used to find out others Etsy sales etc??? As for the corner gaps under the door, cut a couple small corner blocks and glue them in, will make the finished item look a lot more better and not rookie-ish.... from a professionals view there's a bunch more items I could advise on, however considering the rustic look you're going for this does the trick "for that type market" At least your in the shed doing it, so thumps up to that.
Just a note for those looking to get into this, but who may not have much experience in the way of sales and/or marketing, or business in general: When he says, "They made $70K on this," keep in mind that that number includes their product cost and shipping. (Yes, it's "free," but it's not. All these "free" shipping deals - Amazon and Ebay included - are simply the shipping cost wrapped up in the sales cost.) So, the product cost for that bin, I'm guessing, was around $60 pr so, depending on the builder's area, and probably at least $30 to ship. So, the $545 gross profit most likely translates into $450-ish dollars net. Which is still really good, but... how long did it take to sell? How long did it take to make? There are shadow boxes I can make in less than 30 minutes and sell for $60-$70. Two 1x4s, some glue, couple brad nails, and stain. Total product cost of about $6-$7, sell them in a set of 3 on FB Market Place or Etsy in a 1-3 days. So, what? If I do that in 30 minutes, then I make about $100-$120 an hour.
So, once again, you have outdone yourself. So many jokes, the Festool sponsorship one had me rolling...🤣🤣🤣and I am always good for a crop-dusting joke as well. Festool would be lucky to have you. My solution would have been miter joints on the bottom with the bottom flush with sides, and then I would have cut a piece to go all the way across the bottom so that small piece would be the only end grain showing. Pretty sure my explanation makes no sense to anyone but me. Anyway, love the build, as always, thank you for the humor and sharing.
Thank you for all the encouragement brother I appreciate it. I almost understood what you were saying 😂😂😂 So with the miter joint I would only have a small 45 at that end instead of missing the whole square. Is that right?
@@jascogoods Yep, you got it. I wish I could post a pic or drawing so I could show exactly what I mean. But quick recap miter all four corners of the box and cut the piece on the bottom that the door sits on to run all the way across. Then that small piece is all that is showing endgrain.
talking is great (no music: it's one of the reasons I appreciate your channel specifically.) If yes to music: lower volume helps not interrupt the listening flow
Thank you, I appreciate the input. I don't like music either and I don't want to use it. I was just wondering if people would think my channel was low budget! 😂😂
That's a good idea, You are living up to your channel name!!😂I actually thought about doing that and making a rabbet in the wood. I guess I got lazy. lol Thank you for the suggestion.
@jascogoods lol! I hear ya! I get so involved in my projects I'm like I don't need to take two steps to get that I'll just use whatever is right here 🤣
Just an observation… if you had made the door frame pieces (rails and stiles) about 1/2” narrower, I believe the proportions would look a bit better, plus give a tiny bit more ventilation. Slots in the sides with hardware cloth would look good too. Just saying… thanks for sharing!
every time i watch your videos my wife asks are you watching that "suck butt" guy again, because i am cracking up during the entire video. Best voice overs on UA-cam!!!!!

@@jascogoods if they do, you’ll love it
I bought a doweling jig from harbor freight for $25 that is aluminum body with hardened steel guides.
Take your bottom door off and run it through the table saw where the hinges are. It will give you a 1/8" gap to match the top of the door.
Thats actually a good idea. It rained here and now its touching on the bottom and causing tension to close. Thank you!
Not a bad idea to sneak up on dowel hole depth better than having vacuous glue filled hole beneath dowel. Cheers Dave 🇦🇺
Agreed, thanks for putting a positive spin on it. 😂
Love the humor, good job!
Thank you, I appreciate the comment!!
Great video
I’m hooked!
I would hide the pop tarts in the back. 😂
You can make a clamp jig for glueing mitres.
I don’t have very many purchased clamps and jigs. You can build better ones out of scraps.
Looks great..the squeaky door gives it character 👌..love ur videos!!
😂 I love that outlook!! Thank you for your comment and encouragement!
Get a set of self centering bits (vix bits) to predrill holes in the center of those hinge screw holes. They are awesome.
You know I think I have some, I guess I was just being lazy and not predrilling! 😂
Hey thanks for sharing you're a good teacher
You are welcomed! Thank you for the encouragement and the comments! it is really appreciated.
I love all your smart ass comments! Keep up the good work!
😂 Thank you, I appreciate the comment brother.!
Well, I just subscribed. I love woodwork, but you are hilarious. Thank you for good laughs along with the how to.
Thank you so much for the subscription and the encouragement. Glad to have you as a subscriber!
I might try this using cedar fence pickets. You get to add the natural bug repellent to the description. It also might be light enough to make it a wall hanger as a option. There'll be seams but that's just ventilation. 😅
😂 That actually sounds awesome!! I gotta start a blog where I can see what other people are making.
Thank you for NOT playing cheesy background music. I typically click off videos with distracting background music.
me too but I didn't realize how many other people didn't like it either. Thank you for your comment!.
Great video, very clear ..... please, please no background music, I can't listen to two things at the same time. thanks
Thank you, I appreciate the comment and don't worry the no music vote won by a landslide!
Great video. Hilarious!!!! Enjoyed the build!!!
Thank you, I appreciate the encouragement.
No music, your comedic commentary is waaaay better.
Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement. I don't think one person said they like the music idea.
You gained another sub today. Love the humor, love your down to earth style, love the it doesn’t have to be perfect rule. This channel will grow if you keep it up! ‘Merica!
Thank you, I really appreciate the encouragement brother. 'Merica!! 🤣
I love an unexpected ding dong! Nice work, especially showing the mistakes during the build.
😂😂😂Thanks brother, I appreciate that. I subscribed to your channel. you have some cool videos.
@@jascogoods thank you very much!
Hilarious commentary 😂. Love this guy!
😂Thank you, I really appreciate the comment!!
Interesting viewing. nice project. All those custom vents will disappear when you dimension all your boards before assembly.
I hear you, I have to start doing better prep before hand. I always tell myself I'll do it when I get a planer! Thanks for the comment.
Love the videos and project ideas! You are so funny 😁 ❤
Thank you so much!! I appreciate the encouragement.
That is a really good idea. I'd build one and see how it does on Esty, people love those novelty things. Thank you for the comment and the idea.
I like the hum idea.
thank you, any particular song! 😂
Yes hinges on inside instead. You could put a trim on top to get overhang
I think you commented twice. 😂
I think you got the Shabby Sheik nailed, HA! I am having fun watching
I had to google Shabby Sheik! 😂😂😂 Thank you for the comment and the laugh!!
FYI your milescraft dowel jig has those bars on the top so that the jig itself can be a center finder
A few people have said that and I'm pretty sure they showed it in the video I watched from Milescraft. I have to experiment with it some more. Thank you for the comment.
I love that wood work you do and also your videos are funny in a good way. Don’t do music in the background, just talk about what you are doing
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your encouraging comment.
What's a good miter saw? A Dewalt? Ryobi? I was wondering because I want to get one.
@@jascogoods Hmmm thank you so much for the info. I don't have a lot of room to work with I probably should look at the smaller ones. Thanks again.
Just add some crown moulding on the top where the overhang isn't the same...put that on along with the sides and have more basket storage up top...solved!😊
That's a really good idea, I am going to build more with all the suggestions people have given me and share the pics on here. Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate the advice. What do you build? The app I use is Esty hunt. Its a browser extension on google chrome.
Dude, your videos are hilarious and very useful!!! Love your content brutha! Thank you for what you do!
Thank you brother, I really appreciate your comment and encouragement.
Thank YOU!
Thank you!
No need for non-copyright music. You talking and the subdued work sounds are perfect - unless you need to hum the Bennie Hill theme. 😂❤
😂😂😂 Thanks brother!!
your paint tray is designed for the rungs of a step ladder. One side sits over the rung and the other locks it in
I will have to test that on my ladder. I went back to walmart and the other paint trays were not like that.
Where can I get plans for this? Great job!!
I'm working on learning to make plans so hopefully it will be soon. Thank you for your comment.
New sub love this
Thank you so much, it is appreciated!
Just a note for those looking to get into this, but who may not have much experience in the way of sales and/or marketing, or business in general: When he says, "They made $70K on this," keep in mind that that number includes their product cost and shipping. (Yes, it's "free," but it's not. All these "free" shipping deals - Amazon and Ebay included - are simply the shipping cost wrapped up in the sales cost.)
So, the product cost for that bin, I'm guessing, was around $60 pr so, depending on the builder's area, and probably at least $30 to ship.
Thank you for Taking the time and explaining all that, I am sure it was helpful to a lot of people.
Hold your jig upside down and hole will by in the center. Use those pins in same way as your center marker.
a lot of people are telling me that!! I think I am the only person who doesn't know how to use my own jig😂😂😂 Thank you for your comment.
Hinge the bottom front of each door and install a stop cord to keep it from folding down too far.
That's a great idea, Thanks for the advice.
Great video, your hilarious, made it easy to watch with your gags, cheers
Thank you, I really appreciate all the encouragement.
talking is great (no music: it's one of the reasons I appreciate your channel specifically.) If yes to music: lower volume helps not interrupt the listening flow
Thank you, I appreciate the input. I don't like music either and I don't want to use it. I was just wondering if people would think my channel was low budget! 😂😂
I'd say the corners missing is worse. Sand the end grain super smooth and it won't get quite as dark
Someone said to just scribe it so you don't see the end grain. I though that was a good idea, what do you think?
Clamp on a 1/2"strip onto that top edge to over hang the top door.
Good idea, thanks for the tip, I appreciate it.
The Crayon for the notes 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 I like to do things like that to see who notices!
What about stapling a few pieces of small thin wood over the mesh.
That's a good idea, You are living up to your channel name!!😂I actually thought about doing that and making a rabbet in the wood. I guess I got lazy. lol Thank you for the suggestion.
@jascogoods thanks
I didn't know if it was a good idea or not. I'm a super beginner at Woodworking.
You getting that tote down ... me thinking ong i have a pole in my work room available to grab things too high on the shelves 🤣
😂😂😂 I have a step stool but its a pin to get out and I am kinda lazy!!
@jascogoods lol! I hear ya! I get so involved in my projects I'm like I don't need to take two steps to get that I'll just use whatever is right here 🤣
I appreciate the Amal Itch Cream.
😂😂😂 thank you, I appreciate your comment!!
Just an observation… if you had made the door frame pieces (rails and stiles) about 1/2” narrower, I believe the proportions would look a bit better, plus give a tiny bit more ventilation. Slots in the sides with hardware cloth would look good too. Just saying… thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your comment and the tips. I have never heard of hardware cloth, Ill have to look it up. What is it?
@@jascogoods hardware cloth is that heavy “screen wire you used”. Usually 1/4” or 1/2 “ galvanized mesh.
Turn the dowel jig over to do the edges and it will self center with those pegs
you are a genius!! thanks for the advice!
@jascogoods You're welcome!!
I knew before you even started building it that your half inch over hang wasn't gonna be enough but then again I have a custom cabinet business
lol the knowledge that comes from experience invaluable.
Lock miter bits would go a long way to correcting the under and over lap.
Good idea, thanks.
every time i watch your videos my wife asks are you watching that "suck butt" guy again, because i am cracking up during the entire video. Best voice overs on UA-cam!!!!!
😂😂😂 That is hilarious! Thank you for the encouragement. my wife always tells me i'm not funny!! 😂😂
That looks great, dude! I'm going to add that to my build list for my local markets, but they ARE NOT getting the Ding Dongs!!
😂😂😂 I don't blame you. You'll have to let me know how it sells.
Also you can write on it and wipe off easy and it has a built in pencil sharpener
that's awesome!!
