Now I think that will just be a big "what if" for me since I doubt that I would be able to try the Evo 1.

I acknowledge the cutting edge technology and undeniable performance this shoe brought to the table. However I sincerely hope this single use plastic culture doesn't become mainstream within racing shoes. Running has become a caricature of itself in the past few years and this would be a step further from its essence.
I agree in that I don't like the idea of a single use shoe. but I will also take this opportunity to point out that this is the second shoe in running shoe history to have a claimed lifespan of one marathon. the first shoe to have such a short lifespan was released in early 2020. don't know if anyone remembers that one.
Great review as always ! So intrigued to see what future shoes come out of this design. Totally agreed that I'm glad they released this for sale, even if it's high price and longevity isn't there. If a concept car sits in a showroom then nobody would know if it cant actually drive. It could just be art and no more. This isnt just a concept shoe, this is the epitomy of human engineering into a running shoe.
They price the shoe high because they can't make shoes specifically for pro athletes anymore. So to circumvent the rule shoe companies create the shoes then price them like crazy, so they don't have to mass produce the shoe.
I think they need to make the shoe legitimate for races by following the rules which includes availability to public, so they do a limited release, but is it "widely available"? Debatable...
is the "widely available" definition even matter, given the 2020 amendment that permits prototypes? so many people have commented about the publicly available rule that I'm starting to doubt whether in understand the rules at all (not that I had all that thorough of an understanding to begin with)
I see this as the equivalent of a car homologation, where the manufacturer produces a threshold number of homologation specials that allow them to race. Since Adidas needs to formally release and certify shoes to be able to make their records official they are releasing super small quantities of them
I think the rules for stock car racing are the most peculiar because the "stock cars" are nothing like the actual stock cars. but in the shoe instance, unless I'm mistaken, the rule has been amended in 2020 to return to the status quo where prototypes were permitted to be used for the purpose of both racing and record setting. I'm so certain that this is the case here, but so many people have claimed that the small release is for rules purposes that I'm now doubting myself.
@@kofuzi you are more involved in the shoe scene than any of us so there's that. But I pecularly love the thought process of this kind of products (whether shoes or cars). The disregard for the consumer and the singular focus on performance will always yield a special product.
for me this is a shoe build for the olympics and a prototype to test future technologie. At the end it is a shoe build for pros. And because olympia requires a shoe that is buyable they sell it to customers.
I’ve run some of my best races and workouts in adidas shoes. Up there with Saucony which are my overall favorite. I wanna try these, but I can’t justify $500 for one race haha.
Al Rumie what are you waiting for (Hopefully you read this comment). Be a first Malaysian to get this stuff🔥. As a Malaysia no others can we hopes. I’m really wanted you to do as a same what Kofuzi did. Get the shoe and do a review🙏🏻
Yes for us a common people in the world $500 its way too expensive race shoe?!?? But for those those very rich parents giving that pair is easy 😅 By the way love your adidas tshirt what size are you sir? & how much is that tshirt your wearing (gray) thank you sir
Also towards the end of your video I kept asking myself it’s Adidas way of flexing against the competition that their concept car approach like you say does hopefully lead to amazing iterations in super shoes and ultimately sprinkle some nuances down to the Boston where it literally needs it first like you mention again about. I think a shoes, yeah it’s a gripe allright, made to deteriorate faster is why class action lawsuits exists like who literally wants to now overspend on running shoes to experience and have a terrible investment that pays no dividends everyone for sure will like to avoid. Adidas is so rad that hopefully with all the reaction they get and sales they see can stay dominant. My personal reaction is that the color combinations should tone down a lot. Some good monochromatic colors will be amazing to see given a three tone touch. Also seeing some nice heft of Continental rubber pieces to give us long lasting use that’s certified to satisfy all people who buy from Adidas. Shelling out $500 for a shoe that will deteriorate after 3 races is so boss from Adidas.
Isn't one of World Athletic's requirements for record eligible shoes is availability to the public? I could be remembering that wrong, but perhaps a big part of the release was specifically to make their pro-runners eligable for records while wearing this shoe.
Seems like great marketing so long as the masses don’t get the impression Adidas isn’t built to last. If I worked in marketing at eg Brooks I’d see this as a huge opportunity. Or a brand that leverages sustainability.
oh, Brooks? that reminds me. there is only one other brand in running shoe history that has released a shoe to the public which has had less claimed durability than the Adios Evo 1.
its intended to be an advertisement for the brand, and by reviewing it you are buying into the industry of leaving the consumer as the sucker. atleast you are playing nice and showing that other shoe companies can send you shoes in good faith
I assume they made it because there is a rule specification for world marathons that a shoe used in a sanctioned race must be available for purchase by the public.
Adidas couldn't just keep it for their professionals as you said. For any marathon shoe to be legal, they have to be available for the general public to buy.
Very interesting review. Seems like a shoe that makes sense for elite athletes. I like you take on the shoe as a prototype and basis for future shoes with better longevity and a lower price. Pretty cool you got a pair and could tell us about it!!!
Pretty spot on review 🙌 If I remember correctly Charlotte Heidmann mentioned it was “concept” shoe and they were impressed by feedback from their runners. We just get 500 pieces of that special cake. Hopefully more of us can have a taste in future 🍰
In the auto world, it would be odd if a concept car got so much hate. Between the Evo1 and prime x 2 strung, I'm really excited at what Adidas will translate into its mainstream offerings in the coming year. also more important things -> slightly disappointed no outsole taste review 🤣
I did that on the livestream. it somehow smells like nothing and tastes like nothing. strange. like noise cancellation technology is somehow emanating from the shoe, but instead of blocking noise, it blocks smell and taste
Bad enough shoes are now 150 to 300 dollars. SHOES. 500 dollars.. that’s already out of control when it comes to “selling shoes”. If you’re not Racing Professionally that is.
I think trying to understand this shoe from a sales numbers perspective may lead to confusion. They’re clearly not trying to sell as many of these as they could.
@@kofuzi well in this day and age, before you know it... I imagine a slightly less performant shoe, for €300 or so. And enough aspiring middle aged men with fat wallets who think they can buy a shortcut to better PBs...
Cool shoe But useless for training And unless you are a kiptum, hassan, Assefa, Kipchoge type athlete that could break a WR the shoe is pretty well not needed Even if you’d run a 2:15 or 2:14 marathon it doesn’t is a big difference If you’d try to break the Olympic qualifier than that shoe could be great. But every other person on this plantet I’d basically say the shoe is not needed The reason assefa ran great in Berlin because due to the lightness the shoe she can just maintain her form for longer plus she already was in WR shape The fastest male in the marathon wearing that shoe was like Kipruto or so he ran 2:03 mid so not even a guy that will medal in Paris (probably ain’t gonna make the Olympic Team for Kenya) So yeah that shoe has not even the crazy reputation of the Alphafly 3 which is the best marathon shoe on (or fastest)
I think perhaps you misspoke when you said that this racing shoe is “useless for training”. That sentence just doesn’t make sense since no one is suggesting that it should be used for training
Hey Kofuzi, try some Indonesian brand running shoes like Nineten and Ortuseight. They offer good quality and are incredibly affordable, costing almost nothing.
Lots of talk about the longevity, but no review of that supposedly headline property or "feature"? In my view nonsensical how such a property can be stated like it applies across the board to runners of all weights and paces (the forces applied through the shoe) and therefore nonsensical for a reviewer to regurgitate this information. This is effectively reporting on a product and the manufacturer's statements, not reviewing.
I think perhaps you are listening for specific words or phrases that might not be in my vocabulary. But I think I address your concerns (which, fwiw, are not explicitly stated in your complaint) by explaining what I’m feeling at various effort levels. This is a technique that I use in all my shoe reviews so as to remove any pace bias. If you have a specific question, please feel free to ask. I also do a livestream for about an hour, Monday through Friday on the Kofuzi Run Club channel. That is a great place for nuanced, synchronous discussion about shoes
Legit Question: The price is $500, but with only 500 or so pairs made, did anyone buy them? Seems they were all given to elite athletes or media folks, so the price is just a made up number no one paid?
I certainly don't know everyone in the running world, and certainly not everyone in the running world posts to instagram. but from what I've seen, I think I saw one pair of legitimate purchase. I suspect all the remaining purchases have gone to resellers
Maybe I'm just a shoe boomer, but the whole concept of 500 bucks for one race is just too boutique. I don't respect it as a business model and as someone who has hated the whole "pay more for less mileage" kick the industry has been on this is my worst nightmare.
it's a good time to be a runner. for those who want to place a premium on performance, there is something for them. and for those who place a premium on durability, there is something for them too.
Great review, Ko! It’s basically a prototype for a future mass-produced racer, and they get way more marketing value by putting it in the hands/feet of >400 influencers, rather than just the top handful of pros
I believe that this shoe is made for runners that weight 2 Lbs/inch, ( and adidas should post a disclaimer) if you are heavier you are waisting your money.
Love my Adios Pro 3’s but I already felt like I was buying the “Ferrari” of shoes when I spent that kind of money on a marathon shoe. I agree with the comparison to a concept car but it does open up the concern for $200+ running shoes becoming a norm instead of reserving that price point to the top of the line models.
I think the excitement of record breaking adds to the sport, kudos to adidas innovation . Clearly designed for elite athletes. However , I have always loved accessibility in running don’t like super high cost shoes. Also don’t want to encourage companies making shoes that are very low durability for most consumers. I have loved the adios pro 3 durability for a race shoe it has worked so well for me. Hope they keep models like that as the main race shoe for most runners. Consistently have found adidas shoes on discount which has made them more accessible.
So many people have commented the same but I can’t help but keep pointing out that the rule was amended in 2020 to allow for prototypes. Maybe I’m missing something here?
I love what this does for running shoe companies and world records these shoes should be expensive for elite runners let’s pore all of the research and new technology to produce this crazy better running shoe of course on the flip side it’s really expensive
I Know this is an EVO 1 video, but considering that the Takumi Sen was mentioned in this video I wanted to share my two cents about it. I have both the Sen and Pro 3 and my biggest problem with the Sen 9 is the tongue, it slides down toward the beginning of the toes and it gets so uncomfortable unfortunately (The only plus side is that it can only be used for 3,5,10k max and even I wouldn't use it for 10k, cos for me it gets really uncomfortable). I wish it had the tongue of the Pro 3! Other than that, both the Sen 9 and Pro 3 are just epic shoes. The Pro 3 I did more than 600km, training 10k-18k and raced 10k-12k and it's still great.
Adidas have basically made the perfect shoe for elite female athletes. It’s like a light spring and works best with much lighter weight athletes whilst Nike have made the alpha fly as a heavier spring for more mass market consumption 😊
Nice review Kofuzi, thanks. Interesting your comment re not getting the pop you expected at marathon pace, but then again I'd imagine the benefits due to weight for fatigue in the back end of a marathon - much akin to the fatigue of doing bicep curls using light weights compared to heavy... Interested to hear if you're going to race a marathon in these and your thoughts after that. Look forward to some of this tech filtering down.
I believe I said that my current marathon fitness is a handful of minutes under my current BQ pace. In other words, if I had to run a marathon this weekend, I think I could BQ off no taper with a little room to spare fwiw, my marathon PB is 14 minutes faster than what I need for a BQ. but I am not currently at that level of fitness

but in the shoe instance, unless I'm mistaken, the rule has been amended in 2020 to return to the status quo where prototypes were permitted to be used for the purpose of both racing and record setting.
And because olympia requires a shoe that is buyable they sell it to customers.
unless there has been a superceding amendment, prototypes have been permitted since 2020
I’ve run some of my best races and workouts in adidas shoes. Up there with Saucony which are my overall favorite. I wanna try these, but I can’t justify $500 for one race haha.
They had to make it available for the public. Otherwise it wouldn't have been legal for competitive racing and the records wouldn't count.
I do not believe that to be true, based on the 2020 amendment to the rule regarding prototypes
Al Rumie what are you waiting for (Hopefully you read this comment). Be a first Malaysian to get this stuff🔥. As a Malaysia no others can we hopes. I’m really wanted you to do as a same what Kofuzi did. Get the shoe and do a review🙏🏻
Adidas brought us a glimpse of the future. Great review and excited for when this type of shoe becomes available in a reasonable price package.
Future price tags
I am super curious to see how any mass produced version would be different
Yes for us a common people in the world $500 its way too expensive race shoe?!?? But for those those very rich parents giving that pair is easy 😅
By the way love your adidas tshirt what size are you sir?

“Logo of a very fancy podiatrist” is the most accurate description
I feel like if I went to a podiatrist and that was the logo, I would feel very confident that I was in the right place
Isn't one of World Athletic's requirements for record eligible shoes is availability to the public? I could be remembering that wrong, but perhaps a big part of the release was specifically to make their pro-runners eligable for records while wearing this shoe.
the rule has been amended. to oversimplify: there is a prototype exemption
@@kofuzi awesome, apparently I missed that!
What a wasteful environmentally irresponsible shoe, makes me want to avoid Adidas
its intended to be an advertisement for the brand, and by reviewing it you are buying into the industry of leaving the consumer as the sucker. atleast you are playing nice and showing that other shoe companies can send you shoes in good faith
I assume they made it because there is a rule specification for world marathons that a shoe used in a sanctioned race must be available for purchase by the public.
Nice review! Will you try to take It at least at 50 Miles? Would be interesting to see if It changes feelings/compress too much
Thanks
I'm planning on racing a half marathon in it in January. I'll probably run a few workouts in it after that to satisfy our collective curiosity
ive noticed the pros wearing this shoe but with less rubber outsole grip/cut outs, SO maybe its 10grams lighter then this "release"!
Maybe. But maybe they’re using a more traditional rubber where they do have it. 🤷🏻♂️
Adidas couldn't just keep it for their professionals as you said. For any marathon shoe to be legal, they have to be available for the general public to buy.
the rules have been amended from what you have stated. to oversimplify: there is a prototype exemption
Very interesting review. Seems like a shoe that makes sense for elite athletes. I like you take on the shoe as a prototype and basis for future shoes with better longevity and a lower price. Pretty cool you got a pair and could tell us about it!!!
I really hope that they can figure out a way to make this foam stable enough for public consumption without losing too much of it's current magic
If I'm paying $500 for a racing shoe, I'd better be able to hit that /gamemode c
My new daily trainer.
you gonna enrage people
For the price, just buy a bike, you'll probably go faster
have you tried to buy a bike lately?
@@kofuzi I'm in the Uk and my bike was £450 so pretty close to the price :)
yeah price of the shoe is now spec of show how low one can get
overcompensating for the prime x 2 strung. that thing weighs twice as this lmao.
This is basically a homologated race car for street use (911 gt1, clk gtr) as a shoe.
Rember it's made for people that basically do a 5k effort for full thon 😅
A bit too in the can for everything they say from 'the shoe will self destruct' to, 'tailored to your foot' to be credible.
I'm not sure I understand what "in the can" means
imagine someone wearing this after one marathon and then the very next day they're mowing the lawn with the same shoe lol
silly silly. you wouldn't mow the lawn with it. you would wear with with your Boston Marathon jacket to the expo of your next race for packet pickup
Pretty spot on review 🙌 If I remember correctly Charlotte Heidmann mentioned it was “concept” shoe and they were impressed by feedback from their runners. We just get 500 pieces of that special cake. Hopefully more of us can have a taste in future 🍰
well said
Allen Steven Thompson William Hernandez Steven
Zapatilla de subasta versus Ford GT 50 ...
@@kofuzi saw a repeat of the livestream. was peak youtube
A pair of shoes for one race... I think this is madness, and really shouldn't be the trend for mass scale production.
it isn't
@@kofuzi well in this day and age, before you know it... I imagine a slightly less performant shoe, for €300 or so. And enough aspiring middle aged men with fat wallets who think they can buy a shortcut to better PBs...
Do you think it will last for 2 half marathon? Do you think also the durability of the lightstrike pro will last over a long time?
A1. that is what I am counting on.
A2. I do not yet have enough information to answer this question. also, define long time.
@kofuzi means after a half marathon then I keep the shoes for like 6 months to the next half marathon
Cool shoe
But useless for training
And unless you are a kiptum, hassan, Assefa, Kipchoge type athlete that could break a WR the shoe is pretty well not needed
Even if you’d run a 2:15 or 2:14 marathon it doesn’t is a big difference
If you’d try to break the Olympic qualifier than that shoe could be great. But every other person on this plantet I’d basically say the shoe is not needed
The reason assefa ran great in Berlin because due to the lightness the shoe she can just maintain her form for longer plus she already was in WR shape
The fastest male in the marathon wearing that shoe was like Kipruto or so he ran 2:03 mid so not even a guy that will medal in Paris (probably ain’t gonna make the Olympic Team for Kenya)
So yeah that shoe has not even the crazy reputation of the Alphafly 3 which is the best marathon shoe on (or fastest)
Are they sold in the US?
I thought these looked super sick, and was considering buying them, but am so glad I found this video. ONE RACE???? :'(
news you can use
That's it
Adidas knows what it's doing
I believe that this shoe is made for runners that weight 2 Lbs/inch, ( and adidas should post a disclaimer) if you are heavier you are waisting your money.
that feels like so much math
Love my Adios Pro 3’s but I already felt like I was buying the “Ferrari” of shoes when I spent that kind of money on a marathon shoe. I agree with the comparison to a concept car but it does open up the concern for $200+ running shoes becoming a norm instead of reserving that price point to the top of the line models.
the road sound of this shoe reminds me of the SpongeBob "squeaky boots" episode
these shoes are so incredibly squeaky. they're definitely much quieter than alphafly or even Adios Pros. but the squeak is so loud!
I feel just about all racing shoes are just big brothers of the 2nd generation Nike Dualist, lol! I miss that shoe, it was my racer in HS!
shoes have changed quite a bit since then
I think the excitement of record breaking adds to the sport, kudos to adidas innovation .
Adidas had to make the shoe available for the public. Otherwise their arhletes can't use them for the Olympics in Paris
*pour
It feels like they built this simply to see what the response is before they have a huge drop at closer to a $300-$350 range
that's an interesting theory. I'm very curious to see what happens for that announced November drop
Bonkers that you cant train in this shoe and use it straight for race...familiarization run wont cut it. Rubbish idea
no one has explained to me yet what a familiarization run is. it's probably shorter than the 9 or so miles I put in for testing, however
Nice review Kofuzi, thanks.
Great review, this would be the upper echelon from Adidas 1 step up from the prime x 2 sprung
First of all this isn't made for general public. This is intended for elite marathon runners and I am glad it exists.
$500?? Yeah, id buy one if it could turn me into the flash and be able to do time travelling
quite a bargain for time travel technology
I’ve never heard anyone reference their marathon PB as their “current BQ pace”… lol
I believe I said that my current marathon fitness is a handful of minutes under my current BQ pace. In other words, if I had to run a marathon this weekend, I think I could BQ off no taper with a little room to spare
fwiw, my marathon PB is 14 minutes faster than what I need for a BQ. but I am not currently at that level of fitness
just got my adios pro 3 a while ago, then they released this.. I was like “damn 😅”
Don’t let the mere existence of something else prevent you from enjoying what is right in front you
Useless shoe.
I think perhaps you mean that you don’t need it
Konami should sue (j/k)
them shits are like 1200 at least now
They had to release it for world athletics rules in terms of being legal/records etc.
That rule was amended in 2020
Adidas is tired of all the Nike variants (Vaporfly/Alphafly) being the shoe of record holders- like Kipchoge. Being a non-elite runner, Vaporflys at 250 dollars is where I stop price wise.
even the vaporfly isn't always $250 anymore though
@@kofuzi, i obtained the Vaporfly 3 for 260, so close enough. I want to see what's left of the 500 dollar Adidas after say 80-100 miles. Probably toast.
Me. I'm off to by a $500 pair of shoes
Wife: your mad, but ok
Me 2 weeks later: I'm off to buy a new pair of shoes, I've worn my other ones out
Wife: not happening
Lol! Same 😂😂😂
your wife is smart to prevent you from trying to PR in two marathons in the course of two weeks. unless you're Ben Johnson
also, I suppose the price of the shoes might also annoy your partner
Adidas' sizing of shoes is a little different from the rest of the world. Their UK 8.5 is equal to US 9. =)
someone else mentioned that. I have no idea how international sizing works. either way, my shoes came in under the stated weight
