malenias arm was missing due to the rot!! Her arm she had was a prosthesis of unalloyed gold, her parallel to Millicent made that clear lowk. Her prosthesis was a result of losing the arm to rot

@@Ontos99I think what they were trying to say is, in this video, you said Malenia lost her severed arm due to her fight with Radahn. When actually, she had the prosthetic arm already when she went to meet him on the field of battle. Suggesting she lost the limb to rot and not to Radahn.
But actually, I have noticed all of the statues of the twins together actually look quite desperately sad. As though they’re mourning something, or perhaps grieving under the burdensome curses they bear.
Yeah I did add that as a text right when I was saying that. Pre-shattering with her rot sickness and losing the limb definitely makes more sense for the portrayal of the statue and its intentions. There is sadness there. Miquella wanting and desiring for Malenia to be cured of this outer god's curse @@K8theKind
@@Ontos99I think that is definitely part of it. But I’ve always found it quite strange that we never get any evidence whatsoever that Marika ever interacted with the Twin Prodigies. We get an abundance of evidence of Radagon, but absolutely nothing of Marika. I think that means more than the attention it has garnered.
Additionally, it seems as though Miquella intended to go to the lands of shadow to follow his mother. Why I wonder? And how did he know that’s where Marika came from? How did he know how to get there? Why is his cadaver and interacting with it our port key through to the shadow realm?
I think Miquella planned on Mohg getting his body. I think the “formless mother” may turn out to be one of the characters we have already met or know of.
There’s certainly something quite tricky going on with these particular details.
You think Mohg and Miquella has cooperated and he wasn't stolen that day? How do you view that line in one of the item descriptions that say Miquella is unresponsive to Mohg. If they were cooperating in some shape or form, why would Miquella be unresponsive to Mohg and why would he need Mohg to access the shadow realm. Slumbering as a technique in egyptian mythology is related to ego death already and is in my eyes sufficient to access the shadow realm of death. The slumbering which Miquella was already partaking in before Mohg has absconded with his infant form as Gideon likes to say. Let me know your thoughts please @@K8theKind
The problem with most of these theories is, there is not a firm established timeline of events. To say that Melania’s only motivation was to challenge Radahn for Miquella when he wasn’t the only one who could stand to gain from the stars resuming their movement. It’s awfully coincidental that Mogh’s area is below Caelid. It comes down to whether or not you believe Miquella was taken after Melania left or before and you can’t prove either. ✌🏼Also, not related but I thought about, there’s another Empyrean you didn’t mention. 👍🏼
great theory but i believe miyazaki said the DLC will not impact the main game and so i believe it the DLC won't have a new order ending
A dlc specific ending for shadow of the erdtree?
The future tense of the Scarlet Aeonia indicates that she may yet bloom again after defeat, perhaps as an inevitability. I think the blooms of her and the rot sisters are there to indicate the process of rebirth is continuing.
There is a certain incompleteness that resides in the fabric of Millicent and Gowry's questline that begs for a continuation in the DLC. Too many item descriptions are hinting at a "potentiality". Now is that merely Rot god's foolish ambitions or something Miyazaki kept it vague SO THAT the dlc can cap it off is a very murky ground in my eyes. Both are possible. What would be ashame is that Miyazaki desiring to continue this questline but it being "scrapped" so to speak due to development time related issues. But I think Malenia is a very important character overall so I hope Miyazaki at least caps it off somehow.
@@Ontos99 Yes I agree. It seems poised for a follow-up. I'm not sure we'll get a full story to do it (we still need one for Melina, GEQ, and Placidusax), but I think we will see an Age of Rot mending rune with a fight against the ultimate form of Malenia. That could even happen with the Miquella DLC if we help him return to the Haligtree.

You are so right and all you have done is state what’s been in front of our eyes all along.
The needle snapped in half. This explanation of HOW she triggered the Aeonian bloom AND snapped the needle. The fact that it’s RANNI narrating the duel between Malenia and Radahn. Because Radahn’s defeat was also necessary to continue her questline. And Radahn’s defeat being necessary to access the DLC (in addition to Mohg’s defeat as well)
I was one of the people who previously thought (before the DLC trailer released) that the secret altar surrounded by octopuses and sacrificial buds might be the way we access Miquella’s realm. While Miquella’s lifeless corpse in Mohg boss arena might be how we access a final encounter with Miquella or Godwyn or something along those lines. So I do still believe that altar hidden away in the Altus Plateau holds some overlooked significance in the grand scheme of things. But alas, I guess we shall see, eh….??
The only thing I might ask you about (and this is not an argument, merely a question) is this: Assuming your theory is correct, why is it do you think that the second phase of Malenia’s bossfight labels her as the Goddess of Rot, if she indeed hasn’t yet reached her full potential? I do believe everything you’re saying. I just wanted to hear you address this specific aspect, if you don’t mind of course. And as always you know that your time is always appreciated!!

The exact line in the spell goes '... With the third bloom, she will become a true goddess.' I think that 'true goddess' phrase is important. Malenia, infected already with the 'fate of Rot Goddess' from birth, and that very fate is making progress with each blooming towards that inevitable conclusion. With the third bloom, as the spell says 'she will become a true goddess'. Does that make sense? I hope you look forward to next week because it is gonna be a different setup in terms of the structure of my script.
@@Ontos99 man I am ALWAYS looking forward to any new videos and/or experimentation. That’s the best way to push ourselves to grow after all! Of course you’ll have to forgive me for not yet getting caught up on a couple of your other more recent videos. Things have only just now begun to calm down at my place for the first time in about a month.
But yeah, that explanation makes sense to me. Like I said I was just curious. I didn’t necessarily see it as a hole in your theory or anything. Just something I wondered about.

One last thing. I’m still trying to get back in the swing of things and I’m still trying to get my channel up and running. Hopefully to do more than just posting simple gameplay videos like I have been. If anything, I’d like to edit them, add music to them, and hopefully add some voiceover work. But suffice it to say I’ve had several ideas brewing in my head for years now as far as the different types of content for my channel that I’d like to put out there.
Do you have any suggestions for editing programs for someone starting out who is as ignorant on the matter as myself? I don’t have too much to work with. Just an iPhone, an iPad I can use (my wife’s), an old laptop that I still use regularly, a PS5, and a microphone I used back when I was in a band…
I don’t want you to feel obligated or pressured in any way. I’m just obviously a really big fan of the creative ways that people like Jack the Mimic and yourself in particular produce and present your own content. It goes without saying that any help or guidance offered would go a long way, would be extremely appreciated, and of course would be gladly acknowledged at some point in the future.

I use Powerpoint slides for these lore videos and then add my voice over mp3 on top of it. Arrange its timings. Then finally add videos and other edits on Camtasia. If you are going to talk over mp4 captures of the games, just drag that mp4 on Camtasia, record your voice over reading your script and edit that mp4 in a fitting way to your mp3 recording. That's the most straightforward, easy but still high quality way to make a lore video IMO. Powerpoint export to camtasia is a bit too much work. I'm used to it tho and it helps me to explain certain things better. But for instance, the next week's video is better designed around video rather than powerpoint slides. Depends on what I want to achieve or the mood I want to set. Camtasia + mp4 of elden ring gameplay videos + mp3 voice over of your script is the best way to do it. I use 'Goldwave' to record my mp3. My mic is 'Blue Snowball'@@Memnoch_the_Devil
Great video Ontos, totally agree on your philosophy on Rot not needing to be malicious. We see this in the Haligtree, it is the only location we see the white flowers and luminous butterflies. Compared to Caelid and Lake of Rot, I think we are seeing “clean rot” in action.
Here is my immediate objection for Malenia’s bloom: how old is Malenia? Do you think her, with memory loss, and her eternally youthful brother are the youngest demigods, or some of the oldest?
I ask that because if you think the Twin Empyreans are MUCH older than everyone else then some mysterious make much more sense.
Why does Malenia’s mentor have so many similarities to the Blue Fairy that has ties to the Ancient Dynasty? How did the Lake of Rot get created? Why does the Scorpion Stinger have a white wolf head on its hilt? Why is Malenia’s second phases called Goddess of Rot?
It all makes much more sense, and is much cleaner from a story telling perspective, that Malenia and Miquella were at Ground Zero of the Ancient Dynasty and may be the cause of its downfall. Miquella is eternally youthful and if GRRM and Miyazaki made a character who always looks like a child actually the youngest character then they’re really bad writers lol
If we wanna get Meta, GRRM has two characters from Fevre Dream that describe this idea of Miquella and Malenia to a tee. Would really recommend reading the book to get some insight on Miquella AND Messmer

Thanks. I do consider Miquella and Malenia to be the last born empyreans as Radagon and Marika should have mingled for them to exist. And that happens post Godfrey banishment. I think Miquella can be suspected of being "an eternal being" since he is cursed with eternal youth but Malenia is cursed with eternal decay. Her existence should have "decayed" her body to an old lady form if we are talking about their birth to coincide with an ancient timeline. How would the timeline and Radagon/Marika mingle would work in the timeline where we do assume they were the firstborn. Let me know your thoughts

You made a very compelling argument that Malenia has only bloomed twice. I always saw the flower outside her bossroom as one of her bloomings, but it isa ctually too small for her, and the Traveller's Clothe are a dead giveaway, that that was someone else.
Malenia thus far has not been keen on letting the Goddes of Rot be able do create a new Order of Rot through her. She focuses all her might to contain the rot; refusing her birthright to become a god but instead serve Miquella as a mere shadow. All the Rot she lets out are side effects, or used out of pure necessity (Radahn fight). So as of right now I don't see how Malenia would want an Order of Rot. It might of course be that she looses the fight for her body and soul, and be forced to carry the Elden Ring as a prisoner (not quite unlike Marika, and what Ranni wanted to avoid), which would be very tragic and would make me quite sad.
An interesting point I saw in your video, that Milicent bloomed into an Aoenian Flower, because she was betrayed by the person she trusted most - us. So what if Miquella betrays Malenia in the DLC somehow and that is the catalyst for her blooming the 3rd time.
That would be an interesting plot twist. However, I wouldnt assume "betrayal" part is crucial to the act of "blossoming". As I've extensively analyzed in my "Miquella: Rebis child, The point of it all" episode, it is highly unlikely for Miquella to do such a thing. I think the "betrayal" angle of death is mostly to the benefit of "Rot God" as hateful and veangeful spirits are going to fit Rot god's designs more. A soul betrayed by someone he cares about shines more brightly with ambition and I'm assuming the Rot god feeds from such destructive impulses. Thats why I've made the point at the end of the video that this order of rot would require Miquella's unalloyed gold to be "kept in check" unless Miyazaki wants to design it to be the bad ending for the shadow of the erdtree.
@@Ontos99I definitely agree on that the Goddes of Rot feeds on powerful (negative) emotions. It is her extreme desperation in the Radahn fight and against you afterall that makes her bloom.
That last thought is quite dark but fitting, since Marika is said to have betrayed Maliketh and Ranni's ultimate goal leads to Blaidd going insane. Malenia basically functions as Miquella's "Shadowbound Beast" in her role as his protector and enforcer, so it's very possible that she will share their fate! If the theory about Mohg taking Miquella from the Haligtree being simply one of the young Empyrean's plans is true, then you could say that this has already happened because his absence leads Malenia to completely fall foul of the Scarlet Rot with nobody around to help stop it.
I wonder if Miquella's attempts to "heal" his sister is actually him working to prevent her order from coming into power. His needle holds back her rot progression into a goddess, which allows him to continue building HIS haligtree and drawing people into HIS unalloyed golden order. What seems like generosity on his part could be motivated by his own self-interests.
The same with bringing about the eclipse and giving Godwyn a true death. This would have prevented the creation of Fia's mending rune, and the Age of Duskborn. This order is also contrary to what Miquella wants, which may be why he works so hard to prevent it.
I don't think Miquella cares in particular about being in power, dictating his 'order'. He cares about curing both Malenia and Godwyn first and foremost and then the Haligtree project which aims to be a safe haven for all who were shunned in Marika's order. Miquella is doing his best to perfect the golden order but I still think it is of 2nd order of importance.

I’ve always been so intrigued when Ranni starts listing herself, Miquella and Malenia as the only empyreans. Does this mean she doesn’t know about Melina or she does but Melina was already burned or bodiless or Melina came afterward? I know what I think but it’s all so speculative. I really hope someday we get a book or a series or SOMETHING so we can know the answers to so many burning questions.
Melina angle is extremely complicated. I think Ranni's words here do play into my previous theory (I dunno if you remember) about how Melina is a 'bud' of Marika so to speak similar to how Millicent is to Malenia. But I think this particular angle will be easier to explore when the DLC rolls around :) What do you think?
Actually that might makes sense. Ranni maybe doesn't know about the existence of Melina. That's an interesting idea I haven't considered before. Since the Torrent's former master was probably Miquella and not Melina.

I used to think it was heavily suggested that they certainly did know about each other and the eye thing and the things about Melina that tie her to the black knife assassins etc… I thought certainly she was there, an accomplice to the plotting of Ranni (and maybe Miquella as proposed by Jack.) But these days I actually get the feeling one of them may know about the other, but they don’t both know about each other, and the one of them is hiding from the other.
Additionally Melina is riding along with us when we interact with Ranni and with Ranni’s little dolly. But she says nothing to Ranni or about her.
I do remember you saying that. Ever since you said that it actually has made the most sense to me out of everything else I have thought of Melina. She uses all erdtree incantations and heals and seems as botanical in nature as Malenia does.
But the eyes thing and the probability of that meaning something about destined death and that Ranni has the eye thing going on as well and… who was the gloam eyed queen? I don’t think it was Marika and I don’t think it was Melina either but I do think we learn something about the eyes and nearly every single demi god in this game with the exception of the Carian brothers, Godrick and as far as we know, Godwyn. Everyone else has some weirdness going on with their eyes.
I don’t know what to make of it! I’ve done tonnes of research and yield nothing but crumbs. It must have something to do with #1 interacting with destined death and #2 Marika and Radagon’s Scarseals and soreseals. If they’re the same exact person, why do they have four eyes and why are these symbols branded in them and why are they strewn about the world like Christmas tree baubles?! 😂🤣

@@Ontos99 honestly it’s the principle of probability for me. It doesn’t seem likely that Melina is so many things with so many difference sources of power and so many abilities knowing so many things and recalling specific conversations, some of them private, from Marika herself. Melina is associated with erdtree incantations and Numen combat training and is previously burned and bodiless and has an eye with a tattoo over it that is always closed just like Ranni, and uses the Flame of the Fell God from the Giant’s forge to burn the erdtree.
She rides inside of us and in content removed from the base game becomes aware of someone else who rides within us enough to even assess them. She claims she needs our help getting to the erdtree in Leyndell but didn’t need help not only finding us whilst riding torrent but also teleporting us up to farum azula, etc etc etc etc.
It’s perfectly plausible that she is the gloam eyed queen. But I find it just too weird if she is Marika but also herself but also the gloam eyed queen but also the one to burn the erdtree and also the one who guides us etc etc etc etc etc etc
I think that the wings that prothesis wearer heirloom and hand of Malenia are referring to are just a figurative foreshadowing/reference to her second phase.

I'm not sure there will be new endings in the dlc.Miyazaki said there will be no changes to the base game. I don't think it would seat well with the players either, not being able to get an ending to the base game if you don't buy the dlc.

I dont know if this ventures off subject, but how did a Valkyrie's prostjesis end up at the Shaded castle - guarded by a Rot knight, while, the castellan is Elemer of Marais? I guess there's an obvious connection
O'Neil has retrieved it post scarlet bloom ;) Marais as a family has an affection for the rot god and Malenia. A lore video can come about this subject. Let me know if you want to see it.

As you can see in her battle with radahn, her prosthetic arm is severed. She also loses her actual arm due to rot sickness pre shattering

i see the way Melina was "conceived" as necessarily different to Millicent and the rot bud baddies.
we don't know how the various reproduction.exe in-between lands precisely "work" and materialize. also there's little known about Melina's spectre composure and who that mother she speaks of is - and her ghost hue is a tie to shadow lands. if i understand correctly our guide on the other side will be someone else, possibly masc, maybe Melina's Marikadagon vis-à-vis? 🧐💅🏼
I surmise our 'initial guide' will be Miquella's great rune and its scent. I think we'll have a boss fight with Miquella's corrupted shardbearer form first and then he will be our tangible guide and we'll focus on the actual antagonist so to speak which will be (I'm assuming) both the twinbird that resides in Godwyn and of course, the man Messmer himself.@@zokisan9554

Thanks for this excellent video! In regards to Malenia's bloom in the cutscene with Radahn, I think it is not only due to the breaking of the needle, but as Gowry implies - some event of emotional/physical trauma that causes the bloom to occur.
I believe if we do get an Age of Rot ending it could actually be more beneficial than the current Golden Order and allow beings to rot and die, which would feed the Erdtree with vital nutrients for it to "grow" healthily again. (Or it could just completely rot the whole thing and start afresh! ) The Age of Rot could allow another form of death in a world that is preventing people from dying. In a similar fashion to Marika becoming a martyr, Malenia would become the ultimate victim to her order as she would still be the puppet of an Outer God.
Hi Ellen. That's an interesting idea. How shadow of the Erdtree is primarily concerned with all that is shunned and detested by the 'life' reinforcing reign of Marika, the order of rot of Malenia being its saving grace is a very nice thematic contrast as a potential 'bad ending' so to speak for the DLC. The rot god 'being truly unleashed' when Malenia and Millicent ascend to godhood with her 3rd bloom. Very interesting idea.

She bloomed because Radahn was too strong of an opponent. That was the only way to stalemate so to speak. Radahn already cut off one of her prosthetic arms a few seconds prior. This was the first time I saw Malenia truly struggle.
Myazaki needs to just start reveling his lore plainly, enough confusion 🙏
This is its strength though. This slight ambigiuty is what sets it apart from countless video game lores out there. And elden ring in particular is extremely rich thanks to GRRM's input

10:17 it just dawned on me that Malenia isn’t required to access the DLC. I wonder how that will go knowing that we could beat her after we’ve made it to the shadow lands. What if there’s a part of the DLC that requires you to beat her at a certain point.
As an optional requirement for this particular ending or some other reason, I can see that being the case for sure. Millicent being a scarlet valkyrie post death, Gowry being the puppet version of Rot god and too many loose ends exist that alludes to the sidequest not being completed fully. An optional DLC quest or ending is on the cards for sure. Whether Miyazaki has the time to implement this ending or quest is the real question ;)
Maybe we'll get a Sif sort of thing if we fight her after the DLC?
What if there is a duo end? The Decay and Abundance TWINblade could be a reference to it. Similar to how we get Moonlight Greatsword in Ranni's end.

malenia really tried to gank radahn with rot god smh, really solidifies the fact Radahn was the strongest demigod (excluding the fact he got nerfed)
My ranking in terms of strength goes as follows: Miquella - Radahn - Malenia. Im assuming Miquella is the strongest and most fearsome empyrean but we'll see what happens in the DLC ;)

I think the story about Malenia becoming a true goddess after the third bloom is supposed to be a legend. In the bossfight she is already called Goddess of Rot, it's an exaggerate appellative for show.
Curious I'm about this order of rot in the way that it sounds like a better solution than golden order still and at the same time can be bad due to when even one piece of that kind of puzzle is out of balance then it all crumbles

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure Miyazaki himself has already debunked there being a new ending, but I would love to have Millicent's and Malenia's story to be expanded. Maybe defeating Malenia AFTER completing Millicent's quest triggers a third phase? Or maybe there will be a certain item that we get in the DLC that could trigger Malenia's 3rd phase, or potentially a dialogue option. Of course, it would be awesome if Millicent could be revived afterwards, given that she would become a "scarlet valkyrie" once Malenia ascended to godhood.
An additional point that proves that Malenia only bloomed twice, is that upon defeat, it says "DEMIGOD FELLED", not "GOD FELLED" as is shown upon the defeat of Elden Beast.
I meant to say both Miquella and Malenia's orders as DLC specific endings for the shadow of the erdtree. Not for the base game. That point about 'demigod felled' is also nice. Thanks for telling me about it. Cheers

Didn't Miyazaki say there are no new endings in the DLC? I would have loved a special ending for all the demi gods. An age of blood for Mohg, an age of devouring for Rykard, and especially an Age of Rot ending for Malenia.
Hi Joseph! Miyazaki said no new endings for the base game. Not for the dlc. It can have multiple endings. One for Miquella and one for Malenia. But what I really want is some sort of a continuation for this questline I've alluded to

I'm fairly certain that Miyazaki said there will be no new endings. So whatever ending happens in the DLC will probably be totally separate from the base game endings

Malenia's moveset is tricky. If we, as the tarnished struggle to keep up, Radahn, with his stature, will surely lose his focus as well
