THANK YOU! I recently got an '85, inline and yes it's Cali so emissions --and mine is baby blue too! ("The General")--one owner its whole life, and that's been his name since the ex owner bought from his dad the Ford dealer in '85. lol I should have started with the carb, instead of the cap rotor etc. Looks like everyone on the comments can all help each other out, and it's even around the same time, not 10 years ago lol
Hi Jennifer we have to start somewhere, there is no wrong way or right way where to start on these trucks. I have to change spark plugs and rotor also. It started to snow here after I swapped the carburetor so I stopped and hoping that I can start on it again after 3 weeks or so when it´s get little warmer here. will keep you updated.
Arni, could you do a video showing what vacuum lines go where? Mine is a mess, i have tried to look at the vacuum diagrams but the way they draw them in a diagram vs the way they actually go are very different locations, plus mine is missing alot from previous owners just throwing all parts of the ecc out. Everything is capped on mine and what isnt just plugs back into the carb like a big loop. Im at a loss on what to put where, but your truck looks very factory as i am trying to get mine back to that point to run correctly and also operate the AC and inside vents properly. Also curious if all of your vacuum ports were the same on your new carb vs the old carb.
Hi Patrick That can be difficult because I did take that all off and I not going to put in again. But let see what I can do, I have everything in my garage marked up. Maybe you can see something in this video, ua-cam.com/video/XgZad4jnoeQ/v-deo.html Also I have some clips that I didn't use in the video I will go over it and If I find something then I will send it you way,
If your talking about electric clips i could use some of those too. I out new carb on mine today, runs better but still my vacuum lines are not routed correctly, the inside wont switch from vent to floor or defrost, Also i think pcv and brake booster vac lines should be mounted somewhere else than where mine are, not sure how you ran your current vacuum lines and what routing you used, Mine has a vacuum tree down below the carb, it plugs into PCV, brake booster, and then has a line with a one way valve that goes and tees into vac canister and vac lines going to cab. I think the brake booster may be better suited off the port on top? Since the vac tree gets air fuel mixture into its vacuum? Or should the bottom most one off the tree be plugged back into carb to recirculate that fuel?
Hey quick question for you, at 2:05 where does that red line off the top of the carb go to? I can't find where it's supposed to go for the life of me. Thanks in advance!
I suspect to exhaust manifold, The other end is broken off so I left it like it. But you got me curios so I'm looking into it. I will let you know when I will find it.
If you look at this link and the picture of the exhaust manifold the you will see round silver thing from the left this pipe will go there. www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1984,f-150,4.9l+300cid+l6,1121432,exhaust+&+emission,exhaust+manifold,5860
@@ArniAtlason thank you! I really appreciate that, just have to fix a few odds and ends and redo the timing and my 85 should be good to go. Hope yours treats you well! Im definetly going to hit you up again if I have more questions lol hope you don't mind
Normal reason for that is the floating ball valve. There is a chamber that will fill up of gasoline and floater will rise up and close a valve so the carburetor will not get to much fuel. Normally it is a dirt in the valve. There can be another reasons but this is what I would check out first.
Great video, thanks. I have the exact same truck and it needs a new carb. Can you share the brand/model of the new one that you purchased? Has it worked well for you since Oct?
I bought this carburetor from Amazon www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TD1Y8TL/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I don't use it daily but so far it has been good to me no issues. I was going to rebuild the carburetor but for this price I couldn't resist. After I put it on there was no adjustments just straight from the box and it just started up.
Hey did you do your carb yet? I am about to as the other tuneup stuff did not really help. Curious if you got the same carb and if you have emissions stuff too that gave you any trouble which is important because I have to pass smog.
I just replaced the carb and cap, rotor and spark plugs. It runs great now. I don't have to pass smog test. But I Innovate tester if I need to adjust for the emission.
1986 is a tough year for this truck, It seems to be in the middle of lots of changes due to emissions, Getting the right parts can be troublesome, Good luck with yours
@@darrinrentruc6614 i have an 85' and dealing with that, but thinking of removing as much emissions junk as possible. Since where i live, we don't have any emissions requirements. not sure how to go about this tho. What would i do with all the loose cables?
We are FORD people still rolling a 2003 Ford Escape! Those plugs really are a pain in the neck. I would have gotten a new carb too, Don't have that skill set to rebuild.
The pipe that goes nowhere is broken from where it goes...It goes down to a "stove" on your exhaust manifold and is the chimney that transmits warmed air to your automatic choke. I have a 1984 F-150 with a 4.9 as well and mine was broken. On cold days, the automatic choke will take forever to adjust without the stovepipe attached. It will only get warmed by a small electric coil that attaches to it. I was able to reattach the rusted and jagged ends of the pipe with some aluminum tape. Garysgaragemahal.com was very helpful in pointing me in the right direction.
That is great information thank you. Haven't been driving it. But now I got license plates and fresh oil so I going to use it little bit to see if there will see if something comes up.

I was going to rebuild this one, but it was so cheap to buy new one.
@@ArniAtlason thats cool arni.carbs are cheap now.but i was 25 when then the 81 was new.i just had to rebild it bro.

Yes this carp work on all of these 6 cylinder engines for these years
