Thank you for this bro. I drive an 83 F150 too, that my late dad bought in 83. Mine doesnt have that pump, but my brothers took the EGR valve off yrs ago, and it still runs ok.
An air pump is an emissions component that is part of the secondary air injection system. It is responsible for pumping clean air into the vehicle's exhaust to promote a cleaner and more complete burn before the fumes exit the tailpipe. It's pretty much used for emissions...
No, it pumps clean air into the exhaust to trick the damn emission probe when ran through emission testing, does nothing to increase the burn in the combustion chamber, it blows into the exhaust, not intake!
Remove all the pollution crap including the EGR & CATS. The secret is using a Holley after market carb and get electronic ignition conversion 4 em. The gas mileage goes way up. When I got my 86 with the c4 trans and 300 in it it was not only a dog off the line and sucked gas to the tune of 10 miles to the gallon. I now get 18 to the gallon.
If Ford had ever actually put a hotter ignition on them things like mine and made that smog pump a factory turbo system thru the carb the damn gas mileage and power would have jumped thru the roof. Recent as a few years ago when I got mine a good friend ordered that Offenhouser intake set up and Holley carb combo Summit sells and he added a home made turbo that came off a Toyota Land Cruiser. It feels like an 8cyl under the hood now. The power off the line is incredible compared to a whimpy stock oil leaker is what these engines really R...
shit can that feedback carb lol.. I went down the rabbit hole on mine lol .. got out of hand with a carb and ........... well it runs nice now check it out ua-cam.com/video/Ue8RctmjSVQ/v-deo.html

How you make it pasa the smoke test?
thanks man… i’m doing the same on a 86!
I have an "89 with the EFI, but same motor. One of the first things I did was trash that whole smog pump. It does run better.

It never worked and it sucks

It pumps air into the hot exhaust to make the catalytic converter work. Being almost 40 years old it probably doesn’t work anymore anyway.
My 81 F-100 doesn't have a catalytic converter...or a muffler...or a pipe! That engine is quiet compared to most.
I did the same thing on my 351m. I have no proof but I swear it ran better.
I don't know why you don't like it but I don't like it neither. Nice vid. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks.
pretty sure its just for emissions, but I took mine off yrs ago, runs fine
I'm thinking about deleting the EGR on mine too
Help out alot thanks!!!

Was the engine stock did you move the timing for the turbo??

If it starts that hard and its already warmed up you need to learn how to do a tune up BOY
