Thanks for the videos. After 70K miles I just replaced my spark plugs with NGK. And this is the first time I do this. I can definitely feel the difference.
Oh my gosh! Thank you thank you! I just bought new plugs and gasket to replace and my mechanic got himself stuck in the slammer. Now I'm so gonna do this to my 2013, spirited green touring Mazda 2.!! And I do need an antenna as mine didn't come with the stock. bought used, he removed and didn't get it back, I got no stations lol
+Michael Erickson Thanks! Welcome to the family! Haha I'm glad the video helped you. If you have an account, feel free to join the Mazda2 Owners Club on Facebook. It's a great place, with lots of nice people and good info. Cheers!
Daedalus Zero, I just tried changing my spark plugs on my Mazda2, 2014 and I really wished that your phone didn't stop filming. I was not able to disconnect the throttle body harness, nor pull the airbox pipe out of the throttle body after I loosened the screw and I could not unclip the hose from the rear. Total failure on my part. I don't expect you to explain how to do all that but I do want to thank you for motivating me to try to work on my own car.
+Cat M It's not a failure, but a learning experience. There have been many times in the past where I've needed help or had to give in and let someone with more tools or experience to do it. I've been tinkering with cars going on ten years, and even now, I still learn something every time I tackle a project. Chalk it up as a positive and stay motivated. 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. My last 2 cars I never changes the plugs. They both had about 200k miles. My "new" 2011 has 88k and since I don't know if they have been changed, and they are easy to get to, why not. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks again. You are awesome and I love your videos. Thanks to you, I am going to change my spark plugs myself for the first time. You make it look so easy.
+Cat M Working on cars isn't as scary as it looks. The only way to learn it is to do it. Everything I know is the result of many years of just tearing into projects and gaining experience. The Mazda2 is by far the easiest car to work on that I've owned. You'll do fine. Thanks for watching! I'm glad to have been able to help in some way.
+Cat M Thanks so much! I appreciate it! Basic maintenance like that isn't as scary as it looks. It just takes experience in actually doing it yourself. I've been tinkering with my cars as long as I've been driving, and through trial and error, I learned everything I know. I'm sure here will eventually be a project that I can't tackle myself, but I'll sure try! Haha There's nothing to it but to do it.
got my sockets and some spark plug sockets..... also will prolly use my extension. Gotta hit up the store tomorrow and get some bosch platinum plugs. 90,000 miles is overdue on my 2011. Apparently you can't buy spark plugs at big box stores after 10 pm.... guess there are just too many of them to put on the shelves and they are most likely indexed... If you have a lawn mower or a snow mobile/4 wheeler dont worry about it though they are out on the floor..... :/ Ima change my belt next week. Tanx for all the videos on my car!
I cut the antenna on my 2011 Mazda 2 with a wire cutter. Didn't remove it from the car, just snipped it off like I was cutting a leaf. I looked at the cross section, and the antenna isn't made out of metal. It looks like a white plastic to me. After scraping off the paint, I checked the electrical continuity of the cut piece with an ohmmeter, and the "antenna" isn't conductive. It looks to me that this isn't an antenna at all, but rather just a cosmetic attachment. That would explain why you could cut the antenna so dramatically, from 32 to 7 inches, with no effect on reception. Maybe some people's cars got a real antenna and mine didn't? I doubt it, but I guess that's possible.
Hey, I got rear ended recently, not major but I need to take the plastic housing section of my rear bumper off. Would you happen to know how to do that? You seem to be the only person on UA-cam making good videos for the Mazda 2.
+OctopusCarDoor I'm glad you like the videos! Thanks! Unfortunately, I can't help you there. I haven't needed to remove the rear bumper on either of my 2s. Typically, when I post a video, it's the first time I've done that project. I only tear into the cars if I want to install a mod or have to fix something; the latter of which doesn't happen too much. My best advice is to just carefully start removing the part in question, keeping track of what goes where. You'll either figure it out or reassemble it and continue when you know what to do. I'm not a trained mechanic, and that's how I learned everything I know. I hope you can get it sorted soon!
+Adrian Vaduva Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't have a video about changing an O2 sensor. I only make videos about things that I modify or need to fix, and neither of my cars need O2 sensors replaced. It's not too difficult, though. With sensors, you just find the bad part, remove it and replace with a new one. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your answer .I want to ask you something . I have a idle variation on my Mazda 1.3 86hp . The point is that the idle variation is not so big, lets say its around 30-100 rpm sometimes, but i feel vibration on the stering wheel and inside the car ,not so bad . From what ii saw on youtube , google etc the problem can be also from the motor mount . Now i dont have errors or the MIL , already changed the coils and sparks so thouse are out.Good work on your future !

If you have a Facebook account, go join the Mazda2 Owners Club group. Someone there will probably have a helpful answer for you. I hope that you're able to figure it out!
Just got a 5speed 2011 Mazda2. I love it. Quick question, if you unthread your oil cap, does it dance around? I notice this on mine, my sister's Rav4 (4 cylinder), but not on my '04 Sienna V6. Gonna do spark plugs soon. Torn between your BKR5EGP and BKR5EIX-11. Engine has 84,000 so it's needed.
+Stuart Haight Awesome! Welcome to the club! Not sure what you mean by "dance around", but if the engine is running, it's always the best idea to have the cap sealed. I forgot to put the cap back in during an oil change once and oil sprayed out of the hole and all over everything on the first startup. 😅 Really, any spark plugs (I always recommend NGK) meant for the 2 will be fine, especially if it's a simple daily driver. Any difference a "better" set of plugs would make isn't going to be noticeable. I bought the least expensive NGKs I could get and they're doing the job. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Thank you so much for your help. Different spark plugs have different gaps even though they are for the same car? when i buy my spark plugs, will it specify what gap?

MAZDA 2 SPORT manual transmission VERSUS a 2016 3 doors Toyota Yaris with a manual transmission, please give me your honest opinion. I have a 2010 V10 BMW M6 at home, I recently moved 35 miles from work. I NEED an efficient fun daily driver. Thank you sir.
You won’t want to kill yourself in the MZ2. There’s a reason why every new Yaris (sedan and hatch) is now a rebadged 2. They’re both small, inexpensive hatchbacks, but only one of them is going to be fun. In all my years of owning a pair of 2s, I haven’t needed to replace anything but oil, filters, and tires. I may be biased, but I’m not the only one who will tell you the Yaris is boring and uninspired. You’ll also probably pay less for the 2 because they’re so widely overlooked.

A little random but have any of you using OEM stubby antenna's been having static issues? I've just installed mine and it's noticeably worse than the stock antenna...
Hey, I Just Bought A 2012 Mazda Demio E-4WD. I'm Lookin' To Change The Spark Plugs, I Heard NGK Lazer Iridium Are The Best Would They Fit My Car? Also Is There A Reason Mazda 2 Parts For This Generation Are More Expensive Than The Other Cars In It's Class And Year And Even The Other Mazdas?
That’s a specification we didn’t get here, so I can’t answer for sure. Whichever NGK is the OEM equivalent for your car will be fine. Consult your local parts supplier or Mazda service center to be certain. As far as part costs, I don’t find them to be that expensive. That could just be my location, however.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Well I´m living in the largest urban area in germany. Might explain why i never had problems with that :D But lower levels in parkin slots were no problem too.
They’re good, but not always necessary. You generally won’t notice any difference if you buy premium over standard replacement plugs. The car in this video is a daily driver, so replacing with standard equivalent is fine. There’s almost no benefit to spending extra on premium in this case.
+luca6959 If you own this generation of Mazda2, the engines all have timing chains, which don't require servicing. If you own an older generation (which may or may not have an engine with a timing belt) I recommend consulting your owners' manual or Google to get the correct answer, because I don't know. Thanks for watching!
In a very rare occurrence, you sir pronounced my name perfect on the first try, well done! Great work on this video bud, we need more content like this for our cars :) Check out my channel for some Miata insanity.
Hi Aaron. Is there any chance you could link me to your info/math on cutting the antenna? DaedalusZero says 'fraction it and end up with a 7.5 inch antenna'. Do I measure end to end (including screw thread) or 7.5 is just the main shaft of the antenna? Thanks in advance!
+Safall1 I honestly don't remember off the top of my head right now. It was a long time ago. I'm fairly sure I explain it all in detail, possibly even measuring the finished antenna in the video.
No offense, but you showed nothing regarding the plugs. You didn't show the removal of the airbox, the coil/wire, or the actual plug. What's the point?
None taken. This was the second video I ever made. I’ll be the first to tell you that it isn’t very good. However, anyone with a little bit of common sense can figure out how to loosen some bolts and make their way through this project with the mediocre information that was provided. Now that I have some experience doing this nonsense and know to just cut to the chase, I do want to remake this one some day. The shame is that spark plug service intervals are so long!
The simplicity of the 2 just makes my day, everyday!

Best way to get crap radio reception
And yet it worked fine, using information from an electrical engineer.
How did you manage to unscrew the antenna? It is really tough for me to unscrew it by hand. Please help.
Wrap a rag around the antenna base to protect it and use a pair of pliers to add some leverage. You should be able to remove it easily then.
How often do you change spark plugs
+Paweł B The owner's manual will say 75,000 miles, but in the Mazda2 they tend to start going bad around 50,000.
I make 2485 miles a year, I've got a manual one. So how often should I change the spark?
+Paweł B Every 50,000 miles.
Does your shorthen antenna works?
+Yvan Nadeau Yes, it works just as well as before.
The strange thing is even without the antenna the signal doesn´t get worse..
It will get fuzzy quicker if you drive far enough from the source.
@@HiroshimaSpirit Well I´m living in the largest urban area in germany. Might explain why i never had problems with that :D But lower levels in parkin slots were no problem too.
Did you have to gap the spark plugs?
No
@@HiroshimaSpirit is that something required for these spark plugs to be installed in the Mazda 2 or no?
Did I show it in the video?
@@HiroshimaSpirit I did not think so, watched it several times but I’m just a newbie trying to learn so I may have missed it 😞
Everything you need to know is included in the video. I wouldn’t post partial information.
what about candele Iridium?
They’re good, but not always necessary. You generally won’t notice any difference if you buy premium over standard replacement plugs. The car in this video is a daily driver, so replacing with standard equivalent is fine. There’s almost no benefit to spending extra on premium in this case.
HiroshimaSpirit shelf life?
Can send me the link to the mazda 2 forum you follow

hello, you know after how many kilometers should be changed the timing belt? And after how many years? The engine is a 1.3 petrol 75 hp
And 'the generation from 2007 onwards ..... Thanks!
In a very rare occurrence, you sir pronounced my name perfect on the first try, well done! Great work on this video bud, we need more content like this for our cars :) Check out my channel for some Miata insanity.
+Ciotti Glad I got your name right and that you enjoyed the video! I appreciate it!
Hi Aaron. Is there any chance you could link me to your info/math on cutting the antenna? DaedalusZero says 'fraction it and end up with a 7.5 inch antenna'. Do I measure end to end (including screw thread) or 7.5 is just the main shaft of the antenna? Thanks in advance!
I got my antenna from Amazon for about ten bucks.
what is "the maths" for the shortening of antenna???
+Safall1 I explained how long it needs to be in the video.
DaedalusZero is it 7.5inches total? end to end(including screw thread)or 7.5inches antenna section only?
kinda want to get this right :)
+Safall1 I honestly don't remember off the top of my head right now. It was a long time ago. I'm fairly sure I explain it all in detail, possibly even measuring the finished antenna in the video.
Nahh you never measured anything. Only saying that that you borrowed the 7.5inch antenna idea from a facebook post.
4:50 OMG just get a farking welder >:|
No offense, but you showed nothing regarding the plugs. You didn't show the removal of the airbox, the coil/wire, or the actual plug. What's the point?
None taken. This was the second video I ever made. I’ll be the first to tell you that it isn’t very good. However, anyone with a little bit of common sense can figure out how to loosen some bolts and make their way through this project with the mediocre information that was provided.
Now that I have some experience doing this nonsense and know to just cut to the chase, I do want to remake this one some day. The shame is that spark plug service intervals are so long!
