1: blaming society
2: blaming a significant other
3: accepting everything was your own fault

Incorrect. The first one is about his parents and his childhood, not society. Your other two here are correct.
@@HealingHeartsGlobalMinistries It can be both ways. If you know about James' past, yeah you can see the hate towards his parents and what not. But if you know nothing about the band, unforgiven really is just a song about blaming society.

EDIT: And also after you have heard all of them you know that Unforgiven 1 is actually all of them combined in very short way. It talks about dying as an alone old man in Unforgiven 1 which correlates with Unforgiven 3 which is the end.

A nice little oversimplified summary on how I like to think about the 3 unforgivens:
I: I can't forgive the world
II: I can't forgive you
III: I can't forgive myself
There is much more behind these, but I like this nice little approach :)
Gergely Lőrincz It’s a bit of an oversimplification, but it’s serviceable. Certainly good enough to be how to begin mentally breaking down the songs.
As for the lingering plot point overarching the 3 songs, that's exactly right. I had a paper in college I did that touched on that exact model as well. Of course delving deeper there's more to it, but to get the point across especially to someone hearing them for the first time that's exactly how I'd explain them.
There's also a bit of how he feels about his parents, and their religion mixed into these, and his mother dying, etc etc. The three songs are REALLY deep in meaning.

I can't wait to see you react to The Unforgiven 3. It's a perfect 3rd song on the trilogy. I would 100% recommend The Day That Never Comes from them too as the next song after the trilogy whenever you decide to get to Metallica again. Epic 👌

I think it's one of their best songs. Guys are great at songwriting, and grungy murkiness of Until It Sleeps is standing out pretty well.

One of their most underrated songs. It is my favorite of the three songs. Sounds different than their other ones but still incredibly powerful and badass.
James loves his country as well as other genres so hence the particular feel you get with this. People say load and reload are shit but being a fan. All albums are unique and great at the same time
They are like any group that has been around for a long time and their style changes. Load is one of my favorite albums, AJFA being the best. St. Anger is the only one I have issues with and it's the damn snare. Some guys recreated the whole album with snare and it sounds incredible.

@@Fiery-Arctic no it's not Metallica been around since the early eighties I graduated in 1985 I am not going to judge how a band can do the rest of time in metal music without sometimes making an overplayed song there was a time in the early nineties when the black album featuring enter sandman, sad but true, unforgiven, was considered sell out metal so just back off on your reply unless u know about the music game ok
Love that you're doing the trilogy. Definitely listen to Pt. 1 and 2 back-to-back again. Toward the very end (right before you say, "HIS VOICE IS SO DOPE!"), listen closely because you begin to hear bits from Pt. 1: the main riff and the background vocals singing "I dub thee unforgiven" and "Never free, never me."
Toward the very end of *Pt. 2*, that is.

I keep up on several different reaction channels and I have yet to see anyone do And Justice for All title track...that song is criminally underrated.

I first heard this when i was a young boy hanging around my dad and his friends. Ever since then I've loved this song, i can't explain it. It takes me to a different place, makes me feel like i have butterflies in my belly and makes me headbang all at once.

This harmonizing style of the voices of James and Jason in this song should've been something Metallica explored a lot more in their music. It reminded me of the song Climax Blues Band - Couldn't Get It Right.
Huge stretch there, but I get your point, and I love that great song 1976 gave us. It was funky and perfect for that era. Still holds-up today, too.

I'm so glad you're doing the unforgivens. They are all so different, yet similar. I've even written a paper on them. The 3rd is one of my favorite songs ever done by Metallica. I almost always shed a tear during the solo so I think you'll definitely like the 3rd one.

I don’t know if you know this or not, but James was looking for a vocalist up until Master of Puppets. He never wanted to be a vocalist, but he ended up being a staple in the metal community for vocals alone.

Hetfield the vocalist/rhythm guitarist is playing a telecaster, which is the quintessential “country guitar.” His is equipped with a b bender, which is used to emulate a pedal steel (also used frequently in country music.
That’s where you’re getting the country vibes in this song.
You should really try to react to some of the earlier Nine Inch Nails stuff like, reptile, wish, mr self destruct etc, since Trent Reznor produced the early Marilyn Manson albums which you seam to like.

Liking PT 2 solo better than part 1 solo that's a RIP lol. I mean you have your own opinion of course but part 1 is one of Kirk's most tasteful well thought out solos ever. I urge you to back and listen to 1 again
Agree. The solo of the unforgiven is one of Kirk's best work for me. Not complex stuff, but it hits you.
And if you have ever watched “Year and a Half in the life of...”, making of the black album, you see the hard work he put in to that solo. For me, that makes it even more touching.

I mean, I like UNF II solo but the first solo is just a masterpiece, hands down.
