    Thank you so much for checking out the video! If you have ideas/feedback, please leave it in the comments, but please keep it constructive. Some might be wondering what about the Right trigger and there will be a matching mod for that as well. Its just part of the iterative process I go through, get one side working correctly and then move to the other.

      Dude, this trigger system is so cool, it makes a perfect satisfying click. I love your videos man you put a ton of work into them, you seriously got me into modding and restoring controllers (Also, Gooms and Kadano to a degree) I haven't sold too many yet but, they move pretty quick I've really only been doing the rgb led mod and a capacitor mod on them if they've got snapback. Also, what model of soldering iron do you use? I've only had this one 40 dollar one but, it doesn't always seem to heat evenly or consistently and that's kind of aggravating.

    This seems pretty awesome. The one shortcoming I could see this having is that I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be legal for tournament use with the current ruleset. My understanding is that you can't have a single button to perform multiple actions in a single press. So I think having the button control both the analog value and digital value simultaneously would count as a macro.
    You could get around this by having a 3 position switch, where one position is low analog value (melee light shield), the second position is high analog value (ultimate shield), and the third position is just digital press (melee hard shield)

    • @LauraSSBM
      @LauraSSBM 2 роки тому

      Current ruleset wouldn't even allow for making digital into analog (with a button/switch) or vise versa. Ptas talked about it in dms with someone but I don't think it's accurately reflected in the rules.

    I'm using some mechanical switches in my GameCube controller. The biggest issue was seating for the switch and spring, I do have it at a good point but it's a bit precarious. It does look like you've addressed that issue with your custom hardware, props to that!
    The other issue I have is the dangling wires, which makes opening up the controller an extra pain in the butt. In your mod, your end result still has the dangling wire issue. If you could find a way to address that with some sort of magnetic connection between the PCB and the trigger housing that would be super ideal. I'd pay the extra money for that.
    You mentioned being able to switch between light and hard shield for melee, is that mod tournament legal? It's not really something I personally need since I only play ultimate. Just worth mentioning since I know some mods are legal and others aren't. If possible you should provide a solution for ultimate only so that it's easier to install and doesn't require extra steps.

    • @RockerGaming

      Emma, this response, is exactly what I hoped for when I made this video, thank you for taking the time to make this comment. Let me go into some detail:
      1 - thank you - I feel like what we have now is a good solution to the spring, I am going to make a couple small tweaks based upon some other comments to see if it can be rock solid.
      2- I agree with the issue identified here and I think you solution is both practical and elegant, I will investigate it!
      3 - I believe it will still be tournament legal, but I have few people confirming for me to make sure.
      4 - I agree, if/when this is ready, my plan would be to offer several versions of the kit, including a watered down Ultimate version. While the pcbs will be universal in nature I believe a watered down version with just the pcbs and some trigger plugs would make ultimate players very happy!
      Thank you again and I appreciate the feedback!!!

    I know Game Cube controllers are good for Smash, but I use mine for Mario Kart. The triggers on this controller need to be modded to be viable. Stock won't cut it since they don't use analog input except when playing CTGP on the Wii U with the adapter. In this particular case, it behaves just like in Smash Ultimate. I put in tall trigger plugs in my controller to help with having "digital" inputs, but these triggers won't work with the Wii U. It's nice to see this mod done with the left trigger, but I think it would be very beneficial to have this mod for both triggers. It can be useful in most games that it will be modded for.

    This is really cool. Personally I have been trying to achieve a similar feel for ultimate as my triggers are not equal in the amount of time it takes to push them down. I have been trying to learn Diddy Kong pop gun cancel which is done by pressing both shield and special at the same time. I mapped one of my triggers to special so having this mod on both triggers for Ult seems extremely useful.

    It may sound like a step backwards but maybe allowing a quick linear progression of the 2 shields with something like the 2 switches stacked on top of each other, or back to back.
    Maybe a touch sensor to do light shield and the switch can do the Hard shield.

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  2 роки тому

      The touch sensor is something I was actively contemplating and i think has merit! From what I understand is many people use a single trigger to shield in ultimate and have one dedicated trigger to each shield type in melee. So having a dual stage trigger is likely more engineering than necessary... having said that, if it could be executed well it would be bad ass!

    Awesome video, I really like the use of the V2 choc switches. Is there a way to add the metal bracket back in? When I used the mod to put a normal mx-style switch in as a replacement I noticed that it wobbled a bit more which led to increased friction if I didn't push the button exactly straight down. I'm not even sure that this will be a problem with your system because of the orange stabilizing piece that you've made. Either way, I'll definitely be interested in picking this up whenever you've got it completed.

    Make it momentary button so if you have that pressed and the L button it will light shield but if it's not pressed L would be a hard shield that way you can do it during a game on the fly without having to use a toggle on/off switch.

  • @Kadano
    @Kadano 2 роки тому

    The current design seems excellent for a purely digital trigger in Melee, however in my experience most people prefer having a short consistent analog range right before that, since with single digital trigger wavedash out of shield is inconsistent in Melee.
    Does your current design support keeping the digital click input at a lower point, so that the analog slider above it is still functional? Using a singular two-stage switch that actuates both the digital and the analog input would probably be even better for Melee, however I'm not aware of any that have a similar design to the keyboard switches you are using and sufficient lifespan.
    I've used switches that are used for camera shutter buttons before, which do the job, but they wear out within 1-3 months of Melee gameplay, which is not sustainable.

      Do you always hard shield with either R or L? If so, this will work for you. The way I envisioned this for Melee is most ppl only hard shield using R or L and then would light shield with the other trigger. In this case you can "tell" each trigger to behave as you want it. I use a short trigger plug for melee, so I rely on access to light shield with a light press, and then a bit further for my digital press. If there's a way to offset the digital actuation of the keyboard switch just enough to allow for the analog slider to activate first, I would 100% purchase this

    So does your PCB mod make it so you dont have to press it halfway for the response in ssbu? If so I would love to have this. Can we have the details to the pcb that you made?

      @@RockerGaming Thats amazing, I need this! I have been obsessing over how to get the GCC triggers to actually be optimal for jumping in smash. Ive gotten the resistance as low as possible, but with the halfway thing it still feels exhausting and sluggish to use. I have the cherry mx mechanical switch bracket, got cherry reds, even lubed them to make it smoother, and cut the tiny springs in the switches as much as i could for it to still have resistance, but it still just isnt right. The halfway press feels excessive and exhausting in my forearm after a session.
      SO I would be so happy if I could have something like this, I will easily buy it from you. I was just considering trying the Power A GCC, because their trigger sensor is only digital and just needs to be bottomed out, so you could make it as short as you want. I might try it, but Ive heard a lot of complaints about stick drift issues so idk.

    Will the plugs only be specific to those low profile switches? I know the kailh choc switches have a different shape so I was just curious as to whether or not different plugs can be made to accommodate those shapes

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  2 роки тому +1

      I am pretty sure it could be possible, my intent is really to focus on the low profile switches and if others want to take it from there, they are more than welcome to. The low profile switches require the least amount of modification and seem like an ideal starting point. I have tested the low profile blues and choc's. I think my focus will be blue as they afford the best feel and sound so far.

    Will everything be open source? Anything else is a shame in my opinion. From the community 4 the community

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  2 роки тому

      I mean to be very fair, I do plan to open source elements of this mod and have already begun to do so, but the vast amount of leg work (read $ and time) on this is being done by a combination of Kwilly and Myself. Even previously open sourced works have all required tweaking and reworking to make them to my satisfaction. I dont anticipate to open source the entirety of the mod... at least not right away.
