I fully agree with you on the Diablos turf wars against Deviljho and Anjanath. I full out refuse to believe that Anjanath, who gets dominated by Rathalos, can hold its own physically against a Diablos and throw it around
Yeah, the laziness of some copy and pasting of turf wars in disappointing. I'd rather have fewer unique ones than dozens of nonsensical ones between similarly animated monsters.
@@unnaturalhistorychannel the Fulgar Anjanath And Viper Tobi turf war is especially disappointing to me, because it’s just a copy-paste of the original, but it makes absolutely no sense for Viper and Fulgar. Not only is Fulgar resistant to thunder, but Viper doesn’t even have electricity anymore!
I think the thing with Monoblos poaching could make an excellent story. For example, you could learn that the Guild has been trying to preserve Monoblos for decades by attempting to make its memory fade from the minds of the general public so that the symbolism behind its parts would also fade. However, there is one Monoblos individual who seems dead set on killing any and all humans it can find (possibly because of an injury from a failed poaching attempt) and it has been spotted near a human settlement. Although the Monoblos population needs to be preserved, the Monoblos must be slain in order to both protect the villagers and the secrecy of their existence.
Overall I think monoblos might in okay state considering daimyo hermitaur seems to only prefer monoblos skulls. Or there is a huge pile of untouched monoblos skulls in storage for them. Or capcom has been just a bit lazy and has not updated daimyo's shell variations.
Interesting. It'd be nice to get a life cycle visual of them to see if the horn growth differs between the two species, as antelope with horns for antipredation grow them far faster than ones that use them just for male-male conflict.
@@Gloomdrake you make an excellent point, but I'd personally wager that is a point where lore and mechanics diverge (You'd never have a Gravios in Stories if it didn't hatch), and we have written lore to correct it. In the absence of mainline game lore or blurbs, we can take the stories events and continuity to fill in the gaps without having to make assumptions.
stories' baby design completely disregards ecologies. You can hatch a black diablos ffs. So I dont know how credible stories is when it comes to representing the actual species.
As cool as it would be to see Monoblos return, after what you said about poaching I think it would be a cool bit of lore if Monoblos becomes the first (that I am aware of) monster to become extinct within the timeline of the games. It could be a cool bit of lore in a future game that despite the hunting practices of the guilds, Monoblos could be a dire warning of the dangers of overhunting.
Yeah, whilst I'd like Monoblos to return, if they're not going to I'd rather they actually make something of it in canon rather than just leaving it uncertain. It could also make a for a poignant moment if one map had the both the bones of the last Monoblos and the hunter who slew it as something you could discover like the shed daora skins.
The idea that Diablos' wings are heat radiators makes a ton of sense when you consider Bloodbath Diablos. When it enters its second phase during its fight, Bloodbath's body generates so much heat that the liquid that's part of the dried, coagulated blood quickly boils off...but it's trapped by the solid parts at first, so the resulting steam is pressurized to the point where it creates a massive steam explosion once the pressure is released.
Varusaborusu can fly somewhat but its a diablos that went to a volcano and ate some spicy cacti because the desert was in a drought. you are probably confusing the two. But also tigrex got out of pitfalls the same way and also used to fly for some reason. Diablo.
It might not be true, but another potential cause for their sheer aggression could be eyesight. Wild animals with particularly bad vision tend to operate on a “strike first, ask later” policy (such as Rhinoceros). Plus since they burrow so much and have notably sensitive hearing, it’s possible that they have poor vision and thus just assume everything is a threat. Why take a chance?
if It moves it's dead is a learned behavior but I'm sure there's still some instinct in that because with rhinoceroses if they are trained or raised in captivity they're just big puppy dogs
This is a two year old comment, but Iirc Diablos do in fact have poor eyesight, which is why their so aggressive. As far as they’re aware that large blob is a hostile monster
Barroth is somewhat of a pest to Diablos. They are loud, they are territorial, they charge. And most importantly, they don’t seem to realize they trample cactus. With something as important as a cactus getting trampled, of course the barroth would get driven out.
while its possible barroth ocasionally trample cactus patches it's likely they'd rather avoid them when possible since they could get stuck in their muddy armor which would probably be annoying and uncomfortable. Even if they dont mind they probably don't do it enough to actually trigger a behavioral response in diablos.
Yeah that has been the animation for diablos forever when pitfall trapped. But I guess the initial jump out of the trap is more like the attack from underground, they can just make the fall softer with their wings. So I doubt they can actually take flight, but gliding and breaking the fall to some extent seems to be plausible from that animation.
It very interesting to see that Diablos could use its wings to radiate heat, and it does make sense that by burrowing underground its able to stay cooler, rather than plodding around under the desert sun. Also when burrowed, Diablos can be attracted or be forced out of the ground using sound (Sonic Bombs), is there some animal that have that same sort of behavior?
Off the top of my head, I don't know of anything causing quite the same instantaneous behaviour like throwing a sonic bomb at diablos, most animals would likely flee. But there's good evidence to suggest whales will try to rapidly return to the surface to avoid military sonar and other noise experiments that can often be debilitating or fatal for them.
Do you think it could do with Wingdrakes and the like, with their calls, announcing the presence of surface threats? More of a reflex at sharp sounds? There is also the possibility, however minor, for entirely subterranean creatures that might emit sonar pulses as a means to navigate, that the Diablos might be taught or predisposed to avoiding.
It might be something similar to a practice called "Worm Fiddling". Where a person can use a saw to cut down a small tree, then saw on the stump to send vibrations into the earth, luring worms from the underground. (Here's an article about it www.motherearthnews.com/nature-and-environment/worm-fiddling-zmaz80mjzraw)
I think people overlook how much detail is poured into the monsters' designs and their purposes. They did SO well with every design and their ecological role.
glad I found this channel, monster hunter may not have a lot in the form of concrete lore for much of it's run but the artists behind the titular monsters have so much thought and care put into them beyond just ticking the centers of our brains that go "wow cool creature" at a base level, not that that isn't a primary goal or even the starting point for many of them. Just happy to see someone with what seems like credentials taking a crack at understanding how they work in this world. Very cool stuff. P.S. do a video on teostra he's my favorite after diablos
Thank you! And yeah it's very clear with many of them a lot of thought is put into their design in regards to how they live. MH really does have some of the best beasts. And noted on teostra!
Another reason I think they still have their webbing is because they use their wings like brakes when charging, you can see them lift their arms up when trying to end a charge or dragging to a stop after bursting from the ground
Diablos is my favorite monster. It's so much fun and it taught me the importance of 'waiting my turn' back in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I also love that it inverts a bunch of stereotypes. A terrifying monster that's mostly eats cacti. An endgame monster with no 'powers', just being big and mad. The female being the angry dangerous hormonal one of the species.
While I love anjanath I do whole heartedly agree that he either can’t or extremely unlikely to lift a fully grown diablos off the ground. I had a idea of instead of anjanath lifting Diablos he grabs him by the neck a shoving the horns into the ground at awkward angle, allowing him to follow up with either a hip check, shoving the Diablos with his body or biting down clapping on Diablos, and then having Diablos shove him off and chuck him like a toy. It keeps the turf war feeling like a anjanath fight while not pandering to anja and still reaffirming that Diablos is still slightly above our over confident Tyrannosaurus but it’s just my idea.
They do seem unable to make up their mind with how strong they want anja. In diablos' Rise opening he seems to be dominated entirely bu diablos yet they still have their copied turf war. Overall I do like anja but I feel diablos can seem a bit neutered relative to other apex level monsters with him dwarfing them in size + seeming being more powerful too.
I actually really like the Anja/Blos turf war! You can see that unlike Jho, Anja doesn't have the raw strength and size to completely lift a diablos, so he moreso throws him as hard as he can, then tries to get a better grip, struggles to lift him leading to Diablos showcasing his superior strength by suplexing the pink t-rex.
@@prawn1717 I hate to burst your bubble but anjanath vs diablos is a repeat turf war. glavenus vs diablos is the original one anjanath was given the turf war in rise.
@@dapperraptor8789 That's all well and good, but I like it better as Anja's because its mouth is the main weapon of attack, whereas Glavenus has its criminally underused tail. My point still stands even if the implementation was lazy.
@@prawn1717 it still doesn't feel right to have anjanath lift a majority of diablos off the ground because it makes his turf war with zinogre look kinda dumb imo.
I'm more of a diablos man myself. Both of the blos suffer from MH being a rated T game. If it was more realistic the Blos would be goring many of the monsters they fight not just picking them up and throwing them.
again not the point of the horns and the horns are very much blunt and diablos charges like a bulldozer and even has attacks that literally scrape up the ground and throws it behind him
World being my first game in the series, I found diablos to be rather awesome. It's size and horns drew me in and its behavior was fun to watch. I remember that once it started appearing, I'd follow it around and I'd hunt it, only ever getting a few parts then being knocked out. Then playing stories 1, I had a black diablos that carried my team many times. I guess that's why it's a favorite of mine. So thanks for this video, its always fun to learn new things about your favorites
These two are simply amazing monsters with amazing designs, my favorite being White Monoblos, it's hunt in 4U is simply fenominal. It's a shame that in the same game they really nerfed Black Diablos, in 3U I feared her, in 4U she fears me.
If a second subspecies weren't required for something to be called a rare species I'm convinced White Monoblos would become a rare species. Incredibly powerful, incredibly aggressive incredibly rare, it fits all the marks except for being stronger than the other subspecies, because there's none.
@@unnaturalhistorychannel I know a lot of people like that lol. Me specifically I’m doing an extensive monhun worldbuild project of my own, doing everything from exploring the geology and evolutionary history of established and new beasties, to the modern and cultural impact of many different civilizations and factions across the globe. It’s so big that I made whole cladograms of scalebats and bats for a thread lmao. But enough gushing, your videos of MH and beyond will be some great niche edutainment!
@@CosmicCaribbean That sounds great - and kudos to you for looking into the cultures and civilisation too as capcom have given sod all info about that thus far really. You may like the next video especially with a few theories I'll be pitching as to events that may have occurred in the past few thousand years in world of MH.
Words cannot express my love for Diablos, the wyvern with a voice like King Diamond. Fighting one is the perfect warmup, and usually what I need to defeat, in order to shake off the rust of hunting breaks I take.
Diablos is one of those monsters that I hated when I first started but the further I got into the series and the more I fought it, I fell in love with them. They're just such cool monsters with a fun fight
I like to imagine the laws of physics in the monster hunter universe are quite different, like amount of energy each creature has being much higher and organic substances being absurdly strong, even more than most metals, which explains why hunters need monster parts even as technology advances into early industrial age (steam engines exist)
I still remember my fights with monoblos in mhf2 to craft his armor, after that diablos sort of felt like a reskin. White monoblos om the other hand was truly terrifying
15:00 Oh my god. Thats why animals circle each other before a fight breaks out. Even people do that. I can't think of a more universal sign among mammals that a fight is about to happen than prolonged eye contact coupled with circling one another, and I bet thats why. You show off your body size and the movement forces action on the opponent, either they match you in circling or they're put at a disadvantage and have to flee. It forces a fight or flight response, as freeze results in the opponent being at a severe disadvantage in the upcoming fight.
Is it possible that there's more Diablos in the MH world in general could be due to Diablos having other advantages over Monoblos? Perhaps they tend to lose a horn in combat against other monsters. On a Monoblos, losing its single horn means it just lost a lot of its offensive capability, whereas a Diablos could continue to fight somewhat effectively even with a single horn remaining. This would mean that there's an evolutionary pressure on Monoblos to grow a tougher horn and/or be stronger, while Diablos wouldn't have the same levels of evolutionary pressure for a very tough horn.
Diablos actually isnt flightless, it can fly but it prefers burrowing and running to get around using its wings as a boost. Sorry if I sound like I'm trying to beat "smart", though i do know some Flying Wyverns cannot fly like the Adult versions of Akantor and Ukanlos Still, good job! Loved the video
Thank you! You're right in that technically diablos (and monoblos) have used powered flight in the franchise (which does indeed make it canon I guess) but this is more of a programming trivia rather than them regularly flying for transport, as most additional media describes them as flightless.
@@unnaturalhistorychannel Their wings do look about big enough that for MH physics (even Rathalos technically doesn't have big enough wings) they could fly but it's clumsy and very enegy exepensive, so they would only do it if they don't have any other choice (like for escaping pitfalls)
Hey the reason monoblos was the root of organized hunting comes from dialogue in the original Monster Hunter. A monoblos killed the chief's wife in a large hunt and as a result hunts are now limited to 4 hunters and in the timed format. Idk if anyone else pointed it out. Great vid!
Very well thought out and informative. As someone who has only played World, I am so badly hoping Monoblos joins for Wilds, it is such an awesome looking dino-monster
There is a reason Diablos is my favourite Monster. Nobody else fills the role of a giant pissed of wyvern that digs underground just so it can enjoy some nice and sweet cacti
One of the reasons for diablos weird mouth might be that diablos would commonly partake in ostiophagy the act eating bones from corpses found in there home to help fuel the growth of there horns
the injured and very aggressive elephant story mentioned as a rare instance of a member of a species being much more aggressive with some having unique behaviors is shown with deviants but not just them. yian garuga's many variations of members getting injured in a fight so they train to be more proficient in a fight but also having their already infamous aggression increasing. even closer to that, there is gammoth lore that if a young gammoth survives a tigrex attack, where tigrex knows fighting the matriarch is not a great idea but will pick off popo that gammoth will use as decoys to counter more clever proprietors anf he may get lucky an kill a young gammoth. after this the surviving young gammoth will grow up to attack any tigrex on sight with a unique level of aggression, a tigrex may have a fighting chance against a normal gammoth but the ones that witnessed such attacks are totally out of their league. the funniest lore of diablos lore is the mistake in the official site for MHW, saying it stalks its prey under the sands afer the FF14 collaboration i always jokef that this mistake was actually foreshadowing the cactuar, maybe they taste like cacti too.
One of the things i love most about mh world is how they showed what an impact some of the bigger monsters can have on their environment. The Diablos-caves in the wildspire is one the best examples and it so incrdible to think that just a few animals can dig a cavern big enough for a village of peopla to be build in it.
love the vids man its quite cool the you use the knowledge of our own worlds biology and ecology to explain why and how this fictional creature would work
@@unnaturalhistorychannel do you think the unlawful slaying of monbolos is the reason that normal daimyo hermitaur is more common the the plum daimyo hermitaur
I've always liked Monoblos more than Diablos and I've always wondered why we never saw them nearly as much. This is both an interesting and depressing lore reason as to why they aren't seeing them as much. Makes me more attached to my Monstie Monoblos I have even more, and how even though there's more powerful monsties in Stories 2, you can still kill legendary Fatalis with something as benign as an Aptanoth. Yes I could have a Bloodbath Diablos, but I'm not abandoning my boy.
Now that Rise has been fully released in all platforms and even has an expansion coming, I'd like to reiterate how dumb it is that Anjanath loses to Rathian but ties with Diablos. Who wins pretty convincingly against Rathian.
The older lore said that the Blos wyverns didn't actually sleep at all because their metabolism is so fast. That's been retconned though, Diablos sleeps naturally in World.
Great video, although I do have to question your hypothesis that the Blos Wyverns are omnivores, as that usage of the word "prey" may just be a translation hiccup from Japanese to English. Does the original Japanese text explicitly say "prey" or does it just say smaller monsters?
I haven't been able to translate the original japanese text, but the word 'prey' does seem to come a lot and repeatedly so it seems intentional. And thanks!
@@unnaturalhistorychannel MH unfortunately has a lot of bad translations here and there what I have been able to compare, mainly ingame description texts as you can find both translated and untranslated in wikis. Would be interesting to see the original text for the books.
Monsters becoming endangered due to cultural significance and poaching is an interesting subject I hope can appear in some animated project. This and the Deviljho video really hype me up for a medium that can explore the world deeper.
Hearing that Anjanath can toss around Diablos is a pretty big surprise to me. First time I saw them interact, Tempered Black Diablos with two broken horns and a broken back suplexed it and a Glavenus without breaking a sweat. I captured that one, she was too badass to die. I feel like Diablos as an apex monster still has a standing as a big tough monster you fear well after you've slain it, compared to something like Rathalos, who's reputation has been tarnished by tougher variants and tougher Flying Wyverns like Bazelgeuse and Yian Garuga.
Kut ku and garuga are definitely in the lineup, but for a lot of the Iceborne returners I'm waiting for the artbook to be released for the extra info. But we'll definitely get there!
I always favored Monoblos. The single Horn and streamlined mouth just made more sense for an animal That burrows, especially considering the shape of Diablos horns
Something that I would love to see in a future monster hunter game is a mix between these two as they are likely closely related enough to breed maybe it would be like a liger were it can’t reproduce though
"Flightless" is incorrect. We don't see them fly in game, but that doesn't mean that they're flightless in lore. In fact, in lore there is supporting evidence that they are flight capable, as they are categorized as Flying Wyverns. More likely, they're flightless in the same way that puffins, road runners, and burrowing owls are flightless. They're not incapable of flight, but they're better at ground movement, making flight a risky endeavour if they don't need to.
Bare in mind Ukanlos and Akantor are also classed as 'Flying Wyverns' too. It seems a bit of woolly taxonomic term. In the earlier games they'd have a flying animation when getting out of a pitfall trap or if they charged too far out of a map, but I think this was purely a gameplay feature as IIRC Diablos doesn't fly in World with updated animations.
Or is this "flying" more on the motion it used when burrowed? Like it can't take flight, but it "flies" through the ground when moving around. This is how I made sense of why they were categorized as Flying Wyverns.
I know that probably many mh fans have asked for this but I'm still waiting for a true ceratopsian, sauropod or most importandly a duck billed dinosaur fight seeing how they were the most wide spread group off all dinosaurs at the end of the cretacious. Also its so strange to me how we have so many flying wyvverns and no pterosaurs or to be more specific azhdarchidae which would make not only sense growing so large in that kind of environment but would also make for an awesome fight. And to go with that mind game even further since that species is in pop culture often linked with island dwarfisim that could bring that to mh to.
We talked about the monoblos having like heads on displays kind of reminds me of like with Thorny dragons do where they have push-up competitions who can make the most aggressive push-ups who can make the most sound when they're like frill on their chin basically slapped into the ground whichever one can make the biggest noise the biggest vibration the most force behind it would win the mate that kind that or that they would use their horns and they sword competitions seeing who could win not trying to kill the opponent just trying to see who can make beat down their opponent and a sword combat fencing
Oh yeah, it makes sense that the wings are used to radiate heat, like an elephant with its ears. It also may be that flightlessness in these two genuses is a fairly recent development in World, as during earlier games you can get them to fly if they went out of bounds, so their wings may have been used both for heat dissipation as well as emergency flight.
They still fly to espace pitfalls so they still can fly. But it's obvious from their older gen flying it is very clumsy and energitacally expensive flight
That was such a lightbulb moment when you said that they still have wings so they can radiate out heat. Not that good when they're digging tho I'd bet.
It's hilarious how hostile Diablos is despite simply being a herbivore lmfao. Also, having us see that Red Diablos that the artbook mentions would be pretty neat as another final boss similar to the normal Monoblos we fight in the OG game. Maybe even have it be like a Bloodbath Diablos and have its horn become obscenely large to add on to the variation of its said red coloring.
@@unnaturalhistorychannel Well, I have found that there is a Varusaburosu, which is is a burst species of Diablos. (Hilariously, the wiki I found said the concept was a Diablos mixed with a stove) But it's definitely not as massive as the one told in the Artbook. Hope we can see that one day...
I don't think it's bizarre for an herbivore to be so aggressive at all. Some of the most dangerous and easy to anger animals in the real world are herbivores. Rhinoceroses will snap at the smallest thing. Elephants will go insane in their rhut.
Given lore on the guild indicates their knights work on a "kill on sight" policy to poaching. Given the danger the -blos species' can pose, this detail makes sense.
Hammer user here too. Gravios, Basarios and both Blos were incredibly difficult to me due to their tough skins and height. Everyone knows that hammers must go for the head... But against this guys... You better bring some sonic bombs
I could see an argument for Fulgur Anganath to beat Diablos. Thunder damage could glass the sand that Diablos uses to escape, or even seal it in place.
Interestingly enough it seems that Diablos and Monoblos are not completely incapable of flight. They both have flying animations in most of the games they appear inz but it's extremely rare to see and most players (like myself) have never seen it while playing, but you can see videos of this on UA-cam.
My brain throughout the whole video, while looking at the diablos, was like "oh yeah they do have vestigial fingers on their hands" _looks at face_ "face is cool as hell though" _looks back at fingers_ over and over and over again lol
white doesn't absorb much heat, but in theory it doesn't radiate much heat either, black is the opposite for this, it attains heat drastically, and it can radiate it just as effectively as it's stored.
At the start when I heard you say that’s it’s flightless it is not really flightless it can fly but due to the weight and energy that it has to use to maintain flight
It'd be neat if we ever get a subterranean map. For Diablos to go into the walls/ceiling instead of the floor, then crash on you from above. Maybe we could also see it's chicks there.
The mention about how insane a feat it was for Diablos to toss Glavenus over it’s shoulder and now seeing Espinas tossing Kushala Daora over its head in Sunbreak, while i doubt it’s not as crazy a strength feat as blos and glav, it makes me wish to see Espinas and Diablos go at it only for Espinas to get overpowered kinda like Barroth and Diablos but with more struggle, since Espinas seems to be a confident creature in personality and is powerful plus it loves to trample any threats it perceives, only to get humbled by the OG charging monster. Probably a good thing that the two don’t share habitats for ecology’s sake lol. I know you stated that you aren’t a fan of Frontier monsters or overly flashy ones in another more recent video, but I would love to hear you talk about Espinas or try to make sense of the Fated Four someday
While unfortunately we don't have any living giant reptiles for comparison, is it possible that cold-blooded bodies should also be considered with regards to their heat regulation? I feel like it definitely makes a difference, as the heat would have to circulate through its whole body, and would require less food due to a lower metabolism.
My take on mating stuff in Diablos Cow's black shade is very visible and will scare off weaker males and encourage stronger one's to fight, if they win they quickly mate before running off, this also serves as a warning to other Monsters and I think they might even change color again to maybe a dark purple or red while pregnant or defending a nest and we never hunt them because Cap Com doesn't want to say (Hey go kill this active mother). They lay 2-3 eggs in a burrow and bury them, the young hatch with horns and drag themselves out of the ground to the waiting mother. The mother has a build up of fat needing a larger territory and I think they would make milk like a Pigeon, giving it via mouth to the young. The young use their horns and club tails to aggressively fight each other for dominance and attention and may even kill each other like Boars do, and they may even be born with larger or pointier fangs to fight. By the end maybe only one child survives and is eventually driven away by the mother as she starts to change back to normal and the child goes off to live it's life This is purely speculative from what I know about Deserts, Evolution, and how Child Rearing happens so plz be gentle
Yes being Wight does reduce heat gain but irl humans for example in the equator where there is the most heat take darker colours to reduse UV light because melinan (the thing that makes black people black) reduses UV light but increase heat
The thing is with Diablos and Monoblos is that they are burrowing animals, and burrowing animals which are also not in need of camouflage. This would very much lower the amount of UV damage they would incur.
personally I never got why Diablos is so hated by some of the community, like its fight isn't that bad even in g rank I didn't have that much trouble with it
Is it also possible Black Diablos is more agitated because it's color takes in more heat? Any animal would understandably be easily pissed off if it were trying to find a mate on top of being hot as hell
lets say you only had to do every quest across the games once and the problem from that quest is resolved forever. can we derive a gestation period for each monster this way and if so what are they?
When you brought up heat issues in some animals and tied it with the Monoblos I now wonder how the Bloodbath Diablos can cope with the absolutely absurd levels of heat once he gets to the "boiling" phase. My guess is he doesn't. Organ failure occurs because of all that heat and stress put on the body. The reason some mammals (human males in this case) have their testicles outside of the body is because overheating is bad for the boys down under. Lets not forget the adrenaline rush he gets at this point. Sure he can "vent" the heat and weaponized it as well. But in the sunlight of the desert, and internal temperature from muscle movements, and adrenaline generating more heat. It would be very uncomfortable.
Considering that the toughest Bloodbath quests take place on Ingle Isle, and it burrows into volcanic rock that is likely floating on top of a layer of magma, I think Bloodbath has an extremely high heat tolerance. Of course, the discomfort from the intense heat might also stress it out, making its already sky-high aggression rocket into the stratosphere.
just an error, diablos and monoblos do fly, just like narga and tigrex, not only in the mainline games, you can cause them to need to fly by many means, sonic bomb just after a borrow, cause them to fall from a cliff to a non reachable area in mobile games. Also, the high temperatures inside monoblos and diablos while fighting is visible when they rage, causing smoke to come out fo their mouths
"Anything that is shaped like a threat must be attacked with maximum hostility" i love that statement
as well as "and any predator that doesn't retreat is given a zero tolerance policy on the continuation of its life."
*scared baroth noises*
"But enough about Tumblr users, let's talk about Diablos."
@jonathandee9879 More like "any predator that isnt fast enough to run away will be killed"

It could also make a for a poignant moment if one map had the both the bones of the last Monoblos and the hunter who slew it as something you could discover like the shed daora skins.
wait you're saying i shouldnt hunt over 30 velkana for it's tickets?
Or a subspecies that has little to no horns, like real life elephants
Back in freedom unite 2g I hunted like 59 Yan kut kus lmao, and white monoblos s rank armor was my favorite
If they went that route then I wonder what they would do with Daimyo Hermitaur and its favorite skull armor? Would thet just stop using him too?
The idea that Diablos' wings are heat radiators makes a ton of sense when you consider Bloodbath Diablos. When it enters its second phase during its fight, Bloodbath's body generates so much heat that the liquid that's part of the dried, coagulated blood quickly boils off...but it's trapped by the solid parts at first, so the resulting steam is pressurized to the point where it creates a massive steam explosion once the pressure is released.
But diablos can fly tho
@@theguywhoasked2597 No, it's too heavy for those wings to do anything more than help it jump. Maybe.

Monster Hunter Wilds is monoblos comeback
I absolutely ADORE these videos. Please keep doing them, they’re phenomenal!
Thank you! And will do, aiming for *roughly* every two weeks.
Plus giant anteaters
Considering Diablos has such tiny eyes that until I actually hunted him I thought he _didn't_ have eyes, I can totally believe this theory.
Diablos and monoblos can still somewhat fly when getting out of pitfall traps
Just tested on a diablos in rise, it does fly to escape the trap
Yeah that has been the animation for diablos forever when pitfall trapped. But I guess the initial jump out of the trap is more like the attack from underground, they can just make the fall softer with their wings. So I doubt they can actually take flight, but gliding and breaking the fall to some extent seems to be plausible from that animation.
tigrex did the same iirc before world..
@@da_BemBem Jhen Moran? (closest to a sand whale in the MH world)

Another reason I think they still have their webbing is because they use their wings like brakes when charging, you can see them lift their arms up when trying to end a charge or dragging to a stop after bursting from the ground
oh thats sick
ive always seen them do that but i never made that connection
They do fly, this video is just a fan fic
These are the best, most thorough and well informed speculative ecology videos on these wonderful monsters, keep it up dude!
Thank you so much! And plenty more to come!
I'm definitely more into diablos, mainly because I think it has a more interesting look than monoblos' "Styracosaurus head on wyvern body".
again not the point of the horns and the horns are very much blunt and diablos charges like a bulldozer and even has attacks that literally scrape up the ground and throws it behind him
World being my first game in the series, I found diablos to be rather awesome.
It's a shame that in the same game they really nerfed Black Diablos, in 3U I feared her, in 4U she fears me.
yeah but they got the og apex diablos so you win some you lose some.
If a second subspecies weren't required for something to be called a rare species I'm convinced White Monoblos would become a rare species. Incredibly powerful, incredibly aggressive incredibly rare, it fits all the marks except for being stronger than the other subspecies, because there's none.

There’s also the weird ancients people where most the weapons where inspired from except charge blade to soemthing
Dude I just discovered your channel through this video and why the hell didn't I find you sooner, I'm going to watch every single video

God these videos are just....Thank. You. Feel like you do a better job at treating the monsters like animals than Capcom does
Thank you! I feel Capcom are slowly getting there with the World line games though.
Welp I’m addicted to these videos now
Plenty more to come to feed that addiction!
OH MY GOSH, Same!
Sorry if I sound like I'm trying to beat "smart", though i do know some Flying Wyverns cannot fly like the Adult versions of Akantor and Ukanlos
Still, good job! Loved the video
Thank you! You're right in that technically diablos (and monoblos) have used powered flight in the franchise (which does indeed make it canon I guess) but this is more of a programming trivia rather than them regularly flying for transport, as most additional media describes them as flightless.
@@unnaturalhistorychannel i understand, thank you! Again, sorry if I came off as rude.

Hey the reason monoblos was the root of organized hunting comes from dialogue in the original Monster Hunter. A monoblos killed the chief's wife in a large hunt and as a result hunts are now limited to 4 hunters and in the timed format. Idk if anyone else pointed it out. Great vid!

This is fantastic and great to listen to. Not super high paced that you don’t process but can actually listen and enjoy like an actual documentary

Diablos is a very fitting name for the unstoppable force that is that monster.
Now that Rise has been fully released in all platforms and even has an expansion coming, I'd like to reiterate how dumb it is that Anjanath loses to Rathian but ties with Diablos. Who wins pretty convincingly against Rathian.
Yup!
I quite like both Diablos and Monoblos, they look like true survivalists in the harsh environments they live in.
So glad i found this channel
And so glad to have you on board!
The older lore said that the Blos wyverns didn't actually sleep at all because their metabolism is so fast. That's been retconned though, Diablos sleeps naturally in World.
The diablos is the pinnacle of "Cactus juice is the quenchiest!".
Honestly on Turf Wars, Diablos is THE herbivore that should only be taken down by the most powerful of the top predators.
Let's hope for MH6!
maybe the blos wyverns also have poor eyesight like the elephant and rhinoceros so they are more aggressive in that manner
I heard that the reason female reindeer have antlers is so they can fight to defend food. Maybe this is why lady Diablos have such impressive horns
Camels eat cacti just fine, crushing the spines with their incredibly tough palets and mouths.
Diablos will always be my favorite monster because of how many times he killed me the first time I fought him
Maybe Yian Kut Ku and Yian Garuga in the video after? They are a strange evolutionary path.
i dont know if this was correct but i read somewhere that yain garuga is a brood parasite like the cuckoo
Kut ku and garuga are definitely in the lineup, but for a lot of the Iceborne returners I'm waiting for the artbook to be released for the extra info. But we'll definitely get there!
I think thus far that's just a fan theory. Although interestingly Pukei Pukei is confirmed to a brood parasite of Mernos and other wing drakes.
I just started playing monster hunter, and I gotta say, these videos are very thick and interesting
I always favored Monoblos. The single Horn and streamlined mouth just made more sense for an animal That burrows, especially considering the shape of Diablos horns

I wish they'd bring in a Triblos or a very unrealistic Quadlos. We just need to beef up this group a bit.
Something that I would love to see in a future monster hunter game is a mix between these two as they are likely closely related enough to breed maybe it would be like a liger were it can’t reproduce though
Diablos fleeing to cooler areas is shown Rise as I have had hunts where Diablos will dig down to the lower levels of the Sandy Plains near the caves.
It being classed in it doesn’t mean it can fly, it’s just related to them
Always thought Diablos and Monoblos were brute wyverns.
Monoblos does fly in its intro of the ps2 game.
Why do Daimyo Hermituars have Monoblos skulls as shells?
Diablos is actually capable of flight they just rarely do it since it's so energy-consuming
I do wonder if the red diablos was the original idea for Bloodbath or something.

Hammer mainly, sometimes sword and shield or long sword

Yup, i ever saw one when hunting monoblos in mhfu. I just like "what they can fly?" lol
what i like about diablos is despite the brutal looks it's vegetarian which i find adorable

Dear Lord this man has citations
Welcome to the channel!
white doesn't absorb much heat, but in theory it doesn't radiate much heat either, black is the opposite for this, it attains heat drastically, and it can radiate it just as effectively as it's stored.
Espinas probably will be covered at somepoint now he’s all official. Stay tuned for the distant future!
I think that Diablos would probably lose that fight because he lacks flight, firepoisonparalysis breath
Deviljho listening to this slander and breaking Blos horns in your path “LMAO. Seethe.”
While unfortunately we don't have any living giant reptiles for comparison, is it possible that cold-blooded bodies should also be considered with regards to their heat regulation? I feel like it definitely makes a difference, as the heat would have to circulate through its whole body, and would require less food due to a lower metabolism.
very intriguing
Thank you!
My take on mating stuff in Diablos
Cow's black shade is very visible and will scare off weaker males and encourage stronger one's to fight, if they win they quickly mate before running off, this also serves as a warning to other Monsters and I think they might even change color again to maybe a dark purple or red while pregnant or defending a nest and we never hunt them because Cap Com doesn't want to say (Hey go kill this active mother). By the end maybe only one child survives and is eventually driven away by the mother as she starts to change back to normal and the child goes off to live it's life
This is purely speculative from what I know about Deserts, Evolution, and how Child Rearing happens so plz be gentle
Yes being Wight does reduce heat gain but irl humans for example in the equator where there is the most heat take darker colours to reduse UV light because melinan (the thing that makes black people black) reduses UV light but increase heat
Yes testosterone does also give s black colour but usually used for fur and not skin
