I swear the horn is just there to give him one of those japanese rough gang-member pompadours they often use as a trope in media to signal a "delinquent"
In MH4U's side quests, the wandering Funky Felyne even refers to it as an "explosive pompadour". Yeah, it is my least favorite part of Brachy's design. Also, Brachy's tail had a broken hitbox in MH3U. As in, every time it did the ground punch with incidental tail flick, the tail's hitbox seemed to be flagged with the wrong direction vector, so literally every time you were facing towards the flick it would go right through your guard and deal damage.
UHC: "Okay and now for my thoughts on Bracidyos..." (A soft whine is heard as laser sights dot his forehead) " He still is deeply flawed.' (smokes cigarette) 🚬
The idea that the slime mold's relationship with Brachydios' skin is as a food source, along Brachydios' skin being confirmed as needing constant death and regrowth, is actually a genius reason for how the relationship between monster and slime both works now, and how it started out. If Brachydios's ancestor started as a swamp dwelling generalist, the layers upon layers of dead and regrowing skin layers make sense for protection from swamp parasites, similar to crocodilian scales. And from there, the slime mold just needed to take advantage of this animal giving it a slow, but consistent cycle of dead skin material to digest, and that's probably all that was needed for the relationship to begin.

I like the sketches at the beginning explaining how Brachy could have gone to the volcano. Visual aids like that definitely help ground theories like this with the dry ecology lesson.
My personal head cannon is that Brachydios hunts like a super-sized Aye-aye/Woodpecker with it using it's fists to tap the ground trying to find things like lava tubes or buried prey by the sound of hollow spaces. Perhaps by resting their horn on the surface to "hear" the vibrations through it's skull like a reptile does since it doesn't appear to have external ears and after finding such a space applying the slime to blow it open to get to the prey inside stunning it in the process.
I feel like a lot of my issues with Brachydios would be solved if he was a geovore instead. It would make sense as to why his slime mold explodes on a timer/is such a prevalent part of his front half/fists, why his front limbs have such overdeveloped Punching Parts (and why his head has one for that matter), and why he’s so aggressive. He’s a blast mining brute who’s evolved in a place where good rocks are a “hot” commodity, and so he’s become territorial and aggressive to defend his mining sites. It gives him something to do in an environment too, pummelling rocks and eating the leftover gravel from the blast. It would explain the tail, too. What better way to defend your back half from an ambush while you’re mining? That’s just my thoughts on it, but part of me wonders if he was meant to be a geovore like Gravios and the like, but they made him a carnivore to up his cool factor.
@@julianswinton5355 I swear if UHC doesn't make the connection between the cyclical nature of Magnamalo and the Rampage, and the cyclical nature of the Junglefowl and bamboo seed dispersals that causes population booms, I will riot.
@@julianswinton5355 I still dread the zinogre video. I kinda hate the videos if he's just gonna be toxic about monsters that stick out. I mean the worst thing about Magnamalo is the budget constrained turf wars. Everything else I sort of have become fond of him as an apex predator flagship. Zinogre too, his pros outweigh his cons. Just cause hes a mainstream favorite doesnt mean he should be hated. Plus we also know the two have different niches, we see Zinogre is not really as much of an apex predator and has to be on defense against Raths as he hunts smaller prey instead of other monsters. Zinogre is like a sort of more like an armored electric wolverine or badger
A buddy pointed out while we were hunting a brackydios(the wilds bug is in full swing) the latter half of his roar sounds like squidward getting really angry. So thats his nickname now
I definitely agree that there should be more hand focused Brute Wyverns, and I'd argue that's the direction with the most room for variety/experimentation. Imagine, if you will, a nocturnal Brute Wyvern based on an Aye-Aye. Its signature weapon? Long, spindly arms tipped with hooked claws for hunting small prey. Could reduce the muzzle to an almost flat face, since the jaws aren't its primary hunting tool. And of course, huge creepy ass eyes to see in the dark. Would be a great nocturnal "boogeyman" role. Terrible in a fight with bigger monsters, but perfectly suited for snatching humans that wander to close to the forest's edge at night.
And we could have a brute based on megataptorian. Those dinos mostly killed with their hand claws and had long arms. Could be a true grappling monster that has alot of grapple attacks.
@@WyattStrange I am too, theri has always been so cool to me. Theri and spinosaurus are my favorite herbivore and carnivore dinosaurs by far and yet neither have really been in monster hunter, theri especially is always depicted as the stand and fight herbivore that doesn’t take shit from anyone and that can easily be translated to monster hunter with a burly herbivore brute wyvern that lives up to the class name with aggressive attacks and a high health pool. Monster hunter could also make it the long sword or dual blade monster equivalent, just like how glav is the great sword in monster form. Or the claws could absorb elements and aliments used against it. The tail could be the important part break as this monster likely needs it for balance but it’s also the difficult part break since it always tries to face you, taking priority to targets behind it or that attack the tail
I started with World and ecology was and is one of the most important things in series to me, so seeing Brachydios for the first time was quite jarring to say the least. Learning about him more definitely made me love him a lot and Raging Brachydios exists too 😅
I'm surprised you didn't bring up any Brachydios concept art. I saw one where he was originally gonna be a more heavily bladed monster almost similar to Glavenus, which could also explain the design for Brachydios armour.
I do question how Brachydios can kill Uragaan, a monster who blows things up by headbutting or body slamming into things, with explosives Especially given the fact that it isn’t the mass behind each hit killing Uragaan as not only is he bigger but he also walked away from Brachydios before he blew up- an explosion which shouldn’t even have phased him
@@TsulaAngenati2292 Uragaan usually gets the short end of the stick in terms of fights even when it's a 100 tonne behemoth that can roll at like 40 KM per hour
As UHC said, the pounders themselves seem weaker than first thought against bigger monsters. The slime mold is the real killer, and my guess is the slime mold's explosive dispersal is just far stronger than Brachy's punches against things bigger than it, like Uragaan. On top of that, the Uragaan in Iceborne was visibly weak even before the slime mold exploded, which means it was likely injured or just a weaker individual that Brachy could finish off.
@@norsehorse84 the slime mold I don’t think it’s powerful enough to flinch, let alone kill, a healthy adult Uragaan- but considering that Uragaan is smaller then a normal one I’ve headcanoned it to be a young Uragaan
@@TsulaAngenati2292 That makes sense to me, a young inexperienced Urgaan that the Brachy found to be easy food. Admittedly there’s probably a lot of hunters that “prove their mettle” by taking down young, inexperienced, or just generally weak monsters, but due to the size of most monsters even as adolescents or even juveniles most common folk think it’s an extremely impressive feat, to them things like an aggressive Kestedon or even a riled up popo are exceptionally dangerous to be around, nonetheless elemental monsters like tobi-kadchi. Only seasoned hunters and researchers (maybe blacksmiths too, depending on how age may affect monster part quality or durability) can really identify a monster’s age, and thus how dangerous it may or may not have been to kill. If you were a common farmer in monster hunter who’s only ever seen things like popo, aptonoth, maybe a veliprey here and there and then you see a hunter haul in a whole ass anjanath you’re gonna be impressed, even though it’s not even as heavy as the biggest popo you’ve seen it’s supposed to be impressive since it’s a predator. Then comes along a seasoned hunter and he says to the one you just saw “Maybe you should stop raiding nests like a kulu-ya-ku and try hunting something that knows how to fight back.”
I generally don't think Brachy is that bad of a Monster design wise, he looks a bit unique, but it serves to help him fill his role I think. His Slimemold actually makes a bit more sense to me after watching this video now. Ultimately it seems to help him unearth prey as you said, or bust open tough shells which it can them pry open further with it's hooked claws. I think all Brachydios needs to really flourish in an ecological sense is more Environmental interactions, and some new small monsters it can specialize in hunting using it's slimemold.
@NathanEaton-Benterud The concept of brachy itself is not bad, but seriously, all his "slime guns" look like they were glued on him(especially if you look at his arms, the claws look very weird), and he overall looks a bit artificial. And it would be okay if he had just two pounders on the hands, but they slapped one more on his forehead, so he looks really dumb blue unicorn... I do not hate his fight in iceborne, but after tigrex, it felt kind of mid.
I don't think the brachydios vs agnaktor fight is that outrageous. If anyone is uniquely suited to hunt agnaktors, that would be brachydios. With its thick, fire resistant armour plates, I'm pretty confident that brachy can withstand a fire laser for a short amount of time at least. Really, agnaktor's best move against brachy probably would be drilling brachy's neck or crotch from below, because I don't think any other move aside from a well placed drill peck can do much damage to brachy. Brachydios on the other hand would have plenty of chances to blast away agnaktors magma armour. Blunt impact damage is the best way to deal with rocks after all, much more effective than slashing or poking with sharp objects.
Brachydios, in my opinion, is the flagship monster with the worst and least build up to its reveal and most insignificant story presence ever. It is literally just one quest. Before it, Rathalos, Tigrex, Kushala, Zinogre and Lagiacrus all had an overarching story and presence. NPCS revered and feared them. You would also encounter them all early, usually in a gathering quest and you'd be outmatched by them. Forced to run from them at first before finally hunting them down later. With Brachydios the Moga Sweetheart will mention once the guild is finding weird slime in the volcano in dialogue text box from behind her counter. Then the next Urgent you get is to hunt it. It doesn't feel like a flagship in its own debut game. Which is probably why some people thought Azure Rathalos is the flagship of 3U. Ivory Lagiacrus had better build up to it with the Moga Chief gradually telling you more about his exploits as a hunter in his youth and about the one that got away.
Brachydios is the flagship monster of 3G/3U, but it wasn't on the cover of the game on copies released outside of Japan. The reason being it was thought Brachydios would look odd to western fans who were still small group at the time. So they used Azure Rathalos, banking on it being a familiar face to rope in the older fans, and because they thought its more classic dragon like appearance would attract more new players.
Some fun coincidences I found after some _very brief_ reading: Nitro compounds are often explosive and bright yellow. 2-Nitrophenol is a tick attractant. Nitropentadecene is a defensive pheromone used by termites. 3-Nitropropionic acid is produced by certain plants and fungi. Nitro groups are often synthessized by oxidizing amines, and amines are frequent waste products from the metabolism of protein. Just thought I'd share these!
The end bit talking about a potential Therizinosaurus or Spinosaurus based brute wyvern really spoke to me… probably because me and my brother have had discussions about that very topic. I was new to MH with World so seeing Glavenus and Ajananth made me excited to see what the brutes had only to find it’s just Carnotaurus and T.rex. Not bad, but I need more. We’ve had some real fun ideas about a Spinosaurus Brute Wyvern that I really want to see them tackle it in the future
There are some highly specialized crickets that are known to actually be hatched by the high heat of lava and they actually feed on its minerals while it is cooling. Those crickets are also known to have a unique shell that actually becomes stronger and thicker and forms sharp points, ridges and edges that injure potential predators. This is only showing that there are some species that absolutely have biological structures shaped by extreme heat.
@tigris115 There is also a really cool snail that produces thick iron scails known as the iron foot snail. You might also want to know about another snail that is about the size of a softball and has protruding parts of its foot that have one of its harpoons in each. Those parts that poke out are for hunting, but you won't see the harpoon until it fires one, and they are really small, though not as small as many others you might see. They have about 8 or 10 of the protruding parts and the harpoon is about the same size as the diameter of a paper clip and about as long as your normal hole for a 3 ring binder is across. I use these kinds of measurements for the purpose of helping you visually picture them or be able to understand the relationships in sizes. The harpoon of a snail or slug is fired into the target and are typically used for one of three reasons, reproduction, hunting, and harvesting of food. When the harpoon is fired by a snail or slug it typically won't detach and it will almost always be barbed and won't move very far but it will be very fast and with enough force to punch through steel the thickness of a typical soda can. (Remember, the harpoon is sharper than a hypodermic needle, but just as strong if not stronger.)
It is an interesting idea to consider that the G Rank variants, I.e. Raging Brachydios, Chaotic Gore Magala, etc, are consistently biological dead ends for their given species, that the hunts are just as much a mercy kill as they are challenges to the Hunters. I'm curious if that was an intentional design point at Capcom
Pretty much all hunts are mercy kills. We go after sick, altered, crippled or ousted individuals who have become a danger to the environment and themselves. World is the one game where we just keep picking fights against animals that were just minding their own business, because the handler kept getting in their way.
Reading the comments on this channel is so humbling. So many of UHC's commenters mention their high-level STEM degrees and studies and I'm here with a thumb up my ass studying English and Writing hoping I don't get kicked out of the ultra-nerds club lmao
I wonder if the specialized rootling you mentioned being less likely in the volcano actually explains the origin of the horn. Maybe the horn was originally present on the ancestor species for digging around in the rocky soil of the volcanoes. The fact that it is small on baby Brachydios does potentially take away from that idea, since they are the ones who would still need to perform this behavior, but it could be argued that the young don't need to dig up the slime anymore, since they pick it up from the territorial markings of the adults
Honestly, while I personally really like Brachydios as a monster, I feel that a lot of their lore/ecology issues could be fixed if capcom had simply made him a herbivorous and/or omnivorous monster which only occasionally killed large prey similar to a bear or boar. I also always thought the bulky tails was a counter weight given how front heavy they are.
I am currently studying a design field and the better I get at designing things myself, the more I understand why you dislike Brachydios so much. I always loved the boxing style pace of the Brachydios fight combined with his theme and from the foundational idea of a Dinosaur who's really good at punching the design fails to go develop past that initial concept. If anything the design deviates into just a lot of weird things like the slime mold that feels more like damage control by distracting you from the fire. He is definitely needed a game or two more in the oven.
I've literally never played Monster Hunter nor have I even seen anything of it, your videos are my sole access to the series and yet I can't stop watching your videos. I study literature and history, but I've always loved ecology so I rarely have time for papers and rely on youtube for knowledge about nature. Many of the more "popular" ecology youtubers often repeat the same tired "fun facts" about the most charismatic animals, but you alway casually describe so many interesting trends in wildlife behaviour and you always describe the relationships between species (something most ecology youtubers never do) I'm excited to see the Oceanus video, even though I don't know what that is lol
Oceaniz is another youtuber who works with Monster Hunter ecology, who makes in-universe documentaries. I would highly recommend checking out his channel, although keep in mind that most of his videos are quite long.
I love stopping everything I'm doing whenever I spot a new upload from you on my feed, also I like the similarities between Brachy and Barroth you brought up and the idea that they're related.
braccy just felt like such a out of place monster in mh3u especially coming from lagiacrus in tri. Lagi has a grounded almost believable crocodile design with the only crazy aspect being it's capacitor crystals. It also has a more muted color that makes sense for it's environment while bracchy is a clash of neon green and purple obsidian. Now, I do actually like braccy's design in some parts and his fight was fun to learn if not a bit frustrating in 3u. But him and zinogre just feel so foreign compared to 3rd gens roster as a whole. I do have a figurine of him that a friend got me which is nice though.
if I remember correctly Slime molt is more like a bacterium and not actual fungi. Also I immagine Brachydios might have used the smile mold as food, or for building its nest. Like Vaal hazak, or a leafe cutter ant, growing them for other purposes. When it adapted to volcanic regions, and migrated, it swaped normal slime out for explosive molt.
Yeah, I know what it's like for a monster to feel "tiring". Seregios, for example, is actually one of my favorite 4th gen wyverns, but the way it became an exclusive, guaranteed invader in every highrank story quest was exhausting. Go away Steve I'm dancing with Stygian today NOT YOU.
honestly the slime thing should have just been a variant or deviant because the whole pounders aspect on their own is a cool idea could have had him target the head and face of large monsters to try and concuss them like the hammer or use them to bash open burrows of smaller ones it would also push the fight out of the mtn dew nitroglycerine snot aoe spam territory
Not going to lie, even though I struggle quite a bit to watch a full video in a single sitting, you do have a genuinely very relaxing voice, so that's apprecciated! I'd pay for the patreon if I could
In Iceborne atleast, Brachy's arm attacks deal barely any damage to the Hunter without slime explosions, so Brachy has seemingly big but weak arms. Also applies to Raging Brachy.
I think an unslimed Brachy could work, as a wierd but cool boxing brute wyvern! But it's pretty fun to hear you talk about how Brachy couldn't work biologically, when I've heard so many people use him and Zinogre as "good" biological creature designs. Maybe it's more of a surface level looks biological, but isn't actually functional.
Great video as always! Although I'm not a fan of some of the other showy/anime monsters, I enjoy Brachy too much to not want it back. While it does feel like an anomaly of a monster, I still love it and its fight.
I think another alternative choice for a brute wyvern idea that utilizes its forearms could be the megaraptorids. Large theropods specialized to kill prey using their talons and teeth, either by swiping or piercing their prey's hide, often bleeding from internal/external injuries as a result.
Or, it could be a pack hunting monster with multiple classes via ontogenetic niche partioning. Youngsters would be swift (and annoying) whereas the bigger individual could take down larger prey. You could possibly also give it a pseudothumb to grab ahold of smaller monsters like the hunter, or objects 🤔
I’d love to hear some initial thoughts on all the newly revealed monsters from Wilds, with more detailed videos on them later once the game is out and there’s more info available. I REALLY wanna hear your reaction to Rompopolo.
Brachyidos has a special place in my heart because of my first time fighting him in 3U (my second game) and how cool his stuff looked. It felt like almost a fun DLC monster to me more than an extension of the game. Kinda wish the series went down that route more rather than shoehorning those kinds of monsters into the main game
I'd personally subscribe to the insectivore as a base theory as an activator function..big daddy brachi collects the mould for use. I'd like to imagine it would plant mold near insect colonies and "farm" the area similar to the diablos mythos. When the brachi needs mould it would gather some and munch on insects nearby as their enzymes serve to function as the ignitor catalyst.
8:43 I should point out that the Herbivorous and Durophagus groups both form a singular recently divergent clade each so having them be “Panda” Wyverns seems pretty reasonable.
I think my feelings for Brachydios are somewhat close to yours for Magnamalo, pretty much every thought you mentioned I think I can share but I also do not like the fight myself, which likely stemmed from havign to face Iceborne Raging on my own, but was carried backwards when I replayed old gen games and still failed to enjoy it. It also frustrates me how Brachy is the flagship of 3U despite being pretty much irrelevant to the game overall and kinda being just another monster to kill along the way to the ancient mask quest storyline (guess you get the title for beign the only non-subspecies or final boss new monster in the game...) There's also the fact it's somehow both a volcano AND tundra monster (or was pre World), which Idk how it's even possible. Its gear has always been very nice tho, and indeed I appreciate the fact it's so far the only brute to make use of its arms in the fight. And while I do think a Therizinosaur based monster would fit a Bird Wyvern more than a brute (both for overall aestethic and also to give the birds a new and strong fighter that differentiates itself from the crazy chicken stereotype) I think a Spinosaur one would be great, especially given no brute so far uses the element of water (please Capcom just give us Miaplacidus from Dino Crysis 3 and act like it's not a port :P it already has its own theme too!)
On the licking of the pounders: it could act as a chemical signaling agent to the slime mold to prime or disarm(?) based on composition seeing as salivation is effected by the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system actions. The other idea could be partially digested food particles in saliva( digestion does begin in the mouth) could supplement the mold especially directly after meal consumption.
I do think Brachydios would benefit more of a design of a Ceratopsian or an Ankylosaur, still retaining the Therapod like body. If we are fortifying its sides and underbelly, the back would be a weakspot where you have to topple Brachy to have more damage.
Yesssss I was waiting for this one. I know you werent the biggest fan at first but he is just soo cool. Ooo and btw I never sleep with your videos I am genuinely really interested in them... and I do use them for sleep to. Double the add watchtime
I feel like everytime I click on one of your brute wyvern videos it’s like “damn i love this monster” and then it’s 15-20 minutes of ecology followed by the rest of the vid indirectly telling me I’m fucking stupid for liking it.
@@unnaturalhistorychannel That's fair. I like Glavenus too, but hearing you just like shit down Deviljho and Brachydios throat (my favorite monsters) was a little deflating. Still love the videos, it's more funny than anything else.

Wow, I love the new visuals you have, makes it more interesting and convenient. I also I had a gut feeling that barroth and brachydios were relatives or biologically related both share similar anatomy and even moves involving the head and even club growths on their tail with barroth having the smallest out of the two.
For what it's worth, I ended up quite liking 4U's Brachy and Raging. Though I will say that the latter got so much worse with other players. It was its own song and dance that got constantly disrupted otherwise. Though it did feel out of place, in hindsight. Not because in the locale (despite the following) - there aren't many places you can throw a Monster that throws punches that leave behind exploding slime puddles into - but in the game itself. And nothing made that more obvious than Guild Quests. Gravios and Black Gravios were able to appear on expeditions and as invaders during them, but never as the main target for a Guild Quest. Only Basarios and Ruby. One might see an ecological partition between parent and off-spring here since both Basarios only ever appeared in the Everwood, never stepping outside of it in 4U. The inverse was true for Brachydios. Never appearing during expeditions yet able to be the main target for Guild Quests. Without volcanic areas. Why and how? Iceborne "solved" the locale issue, but honestly? It didn't feel _right_ there either. And then Raging got upped to 11. Which *was* a nice spectacle yet it only turned me away from the game. Granted, there were other issues as well, but Brachy and Raging are two good examples. I honestly don't know if I want Brachydios and its Raging Variant to return or not. I understand that they are fan favourites and something would be missing from the Guildmarm without them. I wouldn't cry if they never returned though. I agree that Bazel played so much better with Blast and its zoning effects that Brachy feels boring by comparison. Plus I don't think it will ever be able to truly fit anywhere. Relegating it to the potentially challenging fight in the volcano locale if it ever does make an appearance again. But the novelty is long gone. And that's all it ever had.
Having finally reached him a little while ago in Icebourne (I only started MH with World's PC release), he just feels like he has plot armour. He's supposed to be a punch monster, but he's legitimately scarier further away with his leap than he is close up....
I was going to watch this video when I had time as I assumed it already existed with how much you hate this guy xD but wow, how nice to have a video from you especially because I was like "what is going on with this guy". I should have known it was mould. If it is weird, it usually is mould or mushrooms.
I think the reason Brachydios looks so off is that it appears to be designed entirely to be striking and impressive when viewed from the front, especially when in a dynamic pose. This, to the exclusion of any other angle, hence why it just looks unbalanced when viewed from the sides or rear. Arguably this is a good metaphor for its design in general, as consideration doesn't appear to be given towards how it should actually operate when compared to the cool factor. Why does Brachy need to punch when launching the slime as a projectile would surely be safer and more efficient? If it has to make physical contact, however, then why does it commit itself so aggressively to attacks when it really should be using "slime and scoot" tactics? And why, in any world, would a creature evolve to have a massive tube of explosives right on top of its cranium? I'm a bit more sympathetic to Rule of Cool than some, but Brachy is a bit too silly. And honestly a bit of a chore to fight, too.

Agnaktor needs to be back in wilds for the get back
My personal head cannon is that Brachydios hunts like a super-sized Aye-aye/Woodpecker with it using it's fists to tap the ground trying to find things like lava tubes or buried prey by the sound of hollow spaces. Perhaps by resting their horn on the surface to "hear" the vibrations through it's skull like a reptile does since it doesn't appear to have external ears and after finding such a space applying the slime to blow it open to get to the prey inside stunning it in the process.
man that would be such an amazing interaction.
This is a great Aye-dea!
Get out
@aviongris4233 😭
I am expecting the biggest dunk on Brachy known to mankind. Also the first monster you cover in Wilds should be the Seikret.
I am still wating for the Magnamolo video. Just to see how it fares. I asume not that good.

I'm hoping for a therizinosaur monster in wilds.
It isn't exact but one of wilds's new brute wyverns rompolpo is pretty similar
I like your description of how different Brute Wyverns focus on different parts of the same skeleton
I started with World and ecology was and is one of the most important things in series to me, so seeing Brachydios for the first time was quite jarring to say the least. Learning about him more definitely made me love him a lot and Raging Brachydios exists too 😅
I can feel Josh from rage gaming seething from italy
Wow, you really tore into Brachy there, even though you kept your soothing, dignified tone consistent throughout.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up any Brachydios concept art. I saw one where he was originally gonna be a more heavily bladed monster almost similar to Glavenus, which could also explain the design for Brachydios armour.
I do question how Brachydios can kill Uragaan, a monster who blows things up by headbutting or body slamming into things, with explosives
Especially given the fact that it isn’t the mass behind each hit killing Uragaan as not only is he bigger but he also walked away from Brachydios before he blew up- an explosion which shouldn’t even have phased him
@@TsulaAngenati2292 Uragaan usually gets the short end of the stick in terms of fights even when it's a 100 tonne behemoth that can roll at like 40 KM per hour
@@DreamerOfTheSouth yeah
Man the quality has gone up this episode! I would love to see a spec paleo series about MH’s ancestors!
Yeah. I feel like a lot of UHC's beef with certain monsters is less about the monsters themselves as much as a lack of environmental interaction.
@NathanEaton-Benterud
The concept of brachy itself is not bad, but seriously, all his "slime guns" look like they were glued on him(especially if you look at his arms, the claws look very weird), and he overall looks a bit artificial. And it would be okay if he had just two pounders on the hands, but they slapped one more on his forehead, so he looks really dumb blue unicorn... I do not hate his fight in iceborne, but after tigrex, it felt kind of mid.
It's not a bad idea for a monster, it's just over designed.

That's are my buddy Iamthekaijuking's art in the beginning with the evolution theory!
PROUD OF YOU MY DUDE!!!
I remember seeing fanart of Brachydios redesigned as a herbivore awhile back and I feel like that really would have suited it better.
Some fun coincidences I found after some _very brief_ reading:
Nitro compounds are often explosive and bright yellow.
Noted for the debrief - I’ll look into this!
That's radical af

Just got back from work, new video from Unnatural History Channel, a perfect evening
Your video is so soothing to listen to, always exciting for new video.
Many of the more "popular" ecology youtubers often repeat the same tired "fun facts" about the most charismatic animals, but you alway casually describe so many interesting trends in wildlife behaviour and you always describe the relationships between species (something most ecology youtubers never do)
I'm excited to see the Oceanus video, even though I don't know what that is lol

braccy just felt like such a out of place monster in mh3u especially coming from lagiacrus in tri.
Slime molds are protists, like amoebas and (interestingly) many kinds of seaweed.
Yeah, I know what it's like for a monster to feel "tiring".
Seregios, for example, is actually one of my favorite 4th gen wyverns, but the way it became an exclusive, guaranteed invader in every highrank story quest was exhausting. Go away Steve I'm dancing with Stygian today NOT YOU.
honestly the slime thing should have just been a variant or deviant because the whole pounders aspect on their own is a cool idea
could have had him target the head and face of large monsters to try and concuss them like the hammer or use them to bash open burrows of smaller ones
it would also push the fight out of the mtn dew nitroglycerine snot aoe spam territory
I was just rewatching your mon hon series again, and saw this pop up as you were complaining about the boy.. excited to watch this one!

Brachydios only has big arms to compensate for the rest of his classification
the collective of all brute wyverns going "Who's got trex arms now bitch?"
In Iceborne atleast, Brachy's arm attacks deal barely any damage to the Hunter without slime explosions, so Brachy has seemingly big but weak arms.
Also applies to Raging Brachy.
Oh boy…Josh from ragegamingvideos is going to have a field day with this one
Brachydios is my guilty pleasure in Montster Hunter. Can't be mad at him, except for demolishing that one Agnaktor in the ecology video
Unnatural History with another banger video
I think an unslimed Brachy could work, as a wierd but cool boxing brute wyvern!
But it's pretty fun to hear you talk about how Brachy couldn't work biologically,
when I've heard so many people use him and Zinogre as "good" biological creature designs.
They were pretty good as grasping to compared to other theropod I think right? If so it would be cool to see a brute wyvern use tools as weapons.
This and to be exact the old brachydios vid made me make a project on slime mold which made me get 6 in biology last year, thx
great vid UHC! Can't wait tol you hit that glorious 100k!
It's almost as if they announced Rompopolo in response to 29:38
8:43 I should point out that the Herbivorous and Durophagus groups both form a singular recently divergent clade each so having them be “Panda” Wyverns seems pretty reasonable.
While I prefer "world-built" monsters, brachi is one of my favorite "gameplay" monsters. Blast is also a great addition, if OP lol.
Happy 100th video!
Dang I really wish we got that leviathan Brachy.
I still like this monsters. It's my second favorite flagship (Sergio is number one), and I love the fight and gear, specially as a Gunlance main.
I do think Brachydios would benefit more of a design of a Ceratopsian or an Ankylosaur, still retaining the Therapod like body. If we are fortifying its sides and underbelly, the back would be a weakspot where you have to topple Brachy to have more damage.
YESSS HE'S BACK with a monster i hate but I DON'T CARE I'VE MISSED YOU WELCOME BACK DAD

YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!
One step closer to the magnamalo video
Hell yeah ive been waiting for this one
the hardest video UHC has ever had to make, but it was inevitable
