    Good work Buddy enjoying the Car challenges,
    For the price of 4 new shocks i would of done them,
    new springs always i find blow out old shocks and you have to do the work all over again down the line.

    Great vid Kev. It's bloody annoying when you buy a special tool for a specific job and it doesn't fit. As you say it's not best to use the old mole grips but needs must. Quite impressed at how easy the rears were to do though. Car looks pretty decent now, well done.

    just one thing Kev those rear lower shock bushes should not be tightened until the suspension is compressed to it's normal road going position. Otherwise the rubber bushes are always under tension which shortens their life. All you have to do is, with the car on the ground, undo the lower bolts a few turns or so bounce the vehicle on the suspension then tighten again. That should release any bush tension.

    I'm watching this with "Memories" by Elaine Page running through my head as in my younger days I spent countless hours grovelling round under cars, doing battle with rusted up nuts, skinning knuckles and banging my head on places it should never have been. Seriously though, that all went pretty smoothly so off for the MoT it is. Looking forward to the driving impressions and the next set of upgrades

    Great video Kev, keep up the great content. but I have never removed springs from the rear of a car, that does look easy, but when doing car maintenance in College then we stripped the engine out, but we were taught to compress the springs for the front before releasing the shocks, not sure how much difference it would make though, maybe give a little more room to remove the shocks due to not being forced open by the springs. great video Kev, keep up the great content.

    You're a very brave man, using those spring compressors, and axel stands on a gravel driveway! But I don't want to be "that guy" so I'll shut up 😁
    But wow, that front spring was so bad! Goes to show how dangerous it can be when they snap, that could have easily pierced the tyre and that car would have been scrapped for more reasons than a no start! 😂
    Fiesta is looking good now Kev 😎

    Best bet is to relieve the torque of the top nut and the set final torque, without other options is with the wheels on ground, saves damage to the chrome coating of the struts with mole grips or other aggressive tooling 😉

    • @norm4260
      @norm4260 2 роки тому

      @@norm4260 more load on the strut assembly normally seems to work, also mentioned in the manuals that I have seen is to relieve initial torque with the full weight on wheels

    Oh no not the dreaded mole grips. They are just not right for that job because they will slip and damage the chromed stem.

    Should go straight through the re-test now.Well done.
