  • A Tribute to Robert Palmer.
    Lyrics:
    Johnnys always running around
    Trying to find certainty
He needs all the world to confirm
    That he aint lonely
    Mary counts the walls
    Knows he tires easily
Johnny thinks the world would be right
If it could buy truth from him
Mary says he changes his mind more than a woman
    But she made her bed
Even when the chance was slim
Johnny says hes willing to learn
When he decides hes a fool
    Johnny says hell live anywhere
    When he earns to time
    Mary combs her hair
Says she should be used to it
    Mary always hedges her bets
She never knows what to think
She says that he still acts
    Like he is being discovered
    Scared that hell be caught
    Without a second thought
    Running around
Johnny feels hes wasting his breath
Trying to talk sense to her
Mary says hes lacking a real
    Sense of proportion
    So she combs her hair
    Knows he tires easily
    Johnnys always running around
    Trying to find certainty
He needs all the world to confirm
    That he aint lonely
    Mary counts the walls
Says she should be used to it
    Johnnys always running around
    Running around

My dad used to listen to this all the time and I heard it in Asda a few weeks ago and didn’t have my phone to Shazam it, then the Renault advert came on tv just now. I’m so happy to find this! It’s like a wee sign from above. Lovely song. Rip Dad

Back in the day, sometimes the radio station would only play a song once, and never played it again. Bits of a tune would stick in your mind, and you might not hear it again until 30 years later, by chance, accident, or randomly.

I was in Paris at The Sorbonne for a year, 85-86 and this was the theme song to what, if I remember correctly, was a Peugeot commercial. Nothing can go wrong when you are 19 in Paris with this music. Nothing ever went wrong...excepting some hangovers.

The whole album is good. Clues sounds very 80's. But I love that about it. He was embracing new wave. Did a Gary Numan cover on it. Had some Prince-y kind of stuff. Awesomely weird originals like "woke up laughing". I got the album on vinyl from the $0.10 bin and it didn't come off the turn table for months.

Robert was the consumate professional entertainer and he was one of the Rock Legends who made the music of the eighties the best decade ever. He may be gone but he lives on via his music legacy to the world.Anyone who listens to his songs has to realise this guy was one of the greats. I for one will be playing Roberts rock video clips at my New Years party coming up and i know all my party guests will be loving the entertainment. Pure transcendant bliss. Mr. Palmer the consummate tailored Englishman softly crooning in his deliciously blaise way while his world crumbles only just a step behind him. A seething undercurrent in his thoughts one will never see. Much like Basil Fawlty. Well you can actually see Basil cracking lol.

BRINGS ME BACK TO WHEN I WAS 15 YEARS OLD.I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT BEFORE NOW ,BUT WHEN I LISTEN TO THE LYRICS IN THE SONG,I THINK IT IS ONLY ABOUT ONE PERSON, "JOHNNY",AND HE IS MABY TRANSEXUEL( MARY IS HIS "FEMALE SIDE") ,HE IS AFRAID TO TELL / SHOW PEOPLE WHO HE REALLY IS, AND HAVE INNER CONFLICTS ABOUT IT, AND IS FRUSTRATED ,BUT IT IS WHAT I THINK THE SONG IS ABOUT ???? GOD SONG NO MATTER WHAT .
