The director Baillie Walsh was blessed to have Daniel Craig as a friend before he was well known. Craig helped the movie get made and was also one of the Executive producers. Craig is brilliant actor yet this film is about much more than Flashbacks of a Fool'. I cried for Jane's death. I cried for Ruth's sorrow in her husband Boots death that was Joe's childhood BEST friend. Sad Joe carried such guilt to run away. Evelyn (Jane's mom) certainly must have been filled with so much quilt. Her last words to Jane were horrible. No mother should EVER say such words to their young child. Jane's dad deserved better too. Poor Jane.
I don't remember what happened in this movie. Its been many years. I remember this scene and still listen to the song. And when I do I get this feeling of deep sadness. Sadness of a happy time now gone. Something so fleeting that you grab onto it. Like a Flashback of a Fool.
Rock'n'Roll Nightclub just give me a shiver too, love the whole film. The girl reminds me of an ex I should never have let go of , so has a sentimental meaning for me also.
She becomes an archetype, a tantric goddess. Almost like some passage in the Bhagavadgita, when "ordinary" characters suddenly reveal a divine essence. The scene is marvelous, hypnotic. I saw this utterly underrated film, which pulls no punches. The horrible tragedy is what created that ghost of a man he has become. The scene itself though is like an apotheosis. It also touches me on a very personal level, as it speaks to my generation (l was born in the late '60s). I lived in Germany in the early '80s and l understand so well Daniel Craig's character's younger self in that scene. I recall similar awkward moments at that age, at an apartment of a classmate l had those kinds of ardent irreproducible passions for only a gangly 16 year old can have, living at that time, in that place. Feeling shyness and at the same time intoxicated by her sweet and elemental sylph like charms, a rose erupting in fragrance. It's an unforgettable scene, to say the utmost least. For those who don't "get it," they may either never have experienced what it meant to be in love at that age, or better yet to be in love at the age at that particular time, in that particular place.
I am 22 years old and, of course, did not lived the Roxy Music's golden era, but it's incredible how after watched this scene I felt like I was transportated to 1972... This movie is really amazing but, this scene in particular is PERFECT.
This scene always gives me chills....it makes me cry. I think that we all look back at our youth and think of those people that we knew and we think "what if?" This scene really captures those feelings of lost youth and missed opportunities......very haunting.
It's not just that scene yet the song If There Is Something by Roxy Music. Director Baillie Walsh had so much help by Daniel Craig to get this film made. He's even one of the Executive producers. The scene was indeed a flashback into youth during the 70s with shaggy rugs & David Bowie Glam. Roxy Music even got better. Avalon LP by Roxy Music is my favorite but THIS song is my fav that touched my heart. When you were young ...... Nothing will ever compare to the times of YOUR youth like that of the music in your youth. The 70s were so unique in music and the Sexual Revolution.
When I watched the movie this scene marked me a lot. Just listening to this song gives me the weird feeling of sadness and missing a time not lived. I was born in 1992, but I love everything related to the 70/80's: movies, music, style (even porn! LOL). I would love to have lived at that time.
+Mozart Herbert I feel you man watching movie's like dazed and confused and almost famous make me feel incredibly sad knowing I missed out on this period of time - its the only time period I feel this way about. Nowadays everyone's on their phone making stupid snap chat stories documenting every little moment of their lives instead of living in the moment. It makes me sad.
This is not one of my favourite films, but this scene is one of my favourite scenes ever. Love it. It’s worth watching the film just for this. I love Felicity so cool
I knew nothing about this film before watching it so can you imagine how i as a Roxy Fan who thinks that ' If there is something 'is one of the finest songs in pop/ rock history felt when ' out of the blue ' this iconic scene appeared . I was gob smacked with nostalgia . Early Roxy in particular was the glue that bound my band of brothers together . Other cultural references here are the front room that was never used and kept only for best . There is also the aspirational deep pile carpet . I was working class and thought we were posh cos my dear dad did some extra shifts just to buy some lino( Leum ) . Fitted carpets were a pipe dream . Bowie was a god too - who knows , we might only have 5 years after all ??? Thank you to all involved in making this movie ✌️😊
Fantastic bit of the movie, the music fits the mood perfectly. The girl is strangely mesmerizing. The whole scene hits me straight in the gut, reminds me of my youth and a girlfriend i lost.
I love this scene. I loved this movie when I first watched it two years ago. Having flashbacks to the first time I watched it. Sat still for about 3 hours thinking about what I'd just seen.
I like to imagine this song describes a bit of my own youth; the wild clothes, the carefree attitude, of course the music we listened to, the late night parties, and the sense you and your friends owned the world
I love this scene! So true about being young at that time "doing" songs and groups of that time was so common, but it could be fun. No computers or x-boxes to sap up our time, we found corny ways to pass the time and have some fun. My sister and I would "do" so many songs and end up in giggles for its purely ridiculous and silly context but it was innocent, and the happy memories we remember and treasure now... We weren't as cool to know Roxy Music but we "did" Queen, Grease, Bee Gees, Meatloaf, et al. lol. Oh those days... :-)
Perfect encapsulation of the magical moments of youth, shared with someone then lost in the mists of time. The words of the song coupled with the mesmerising performance of Felicity Jones make this one of my favourite movie scenes. Takes me right back...
When we were young life was simpler. We lived life without inhibitions. This song, this scene takes us all back to those times which we can all relate to. Gosh, this is so universally nostalgic. Masterpiece!!!
I watched this movie 10 years ago.. I believe I have remembered this scene every year since then. It has just always been with me.. in my head. It since how has changed me. I think of it so often. As much as I love movies, I've never been hypnotized by a movie like this one before. There's just something about it. It hits different and it will always be with me.
I've actually had dreams about this scene. It really drills down to the core of my sole. Haven't seen the movie for years now but last night I had an intense dream and once I got off work I knew I had to look this up again.
I've come to this film very late.. thankyou christine for the nudge. Loved it from start to finish.. this scene and many more like stay with you forever...
When I saw the reprise of this scene, at the end of the movie, my eyes started watering and the tears came streaming down, and wouldn't stop. And i didn't even know why. The emotional fucus and extreme accurateness of what it expresses is so acute, so raw and at the same time understated, that it took my breath away... and it also "took me right back, to when i was young..." and the first times i heard this unparalleled song.
It took me ages to find out which RM album this song was from and when I did, and bought it, every time I listen to it, I think of Felicity Jones lip-synching in slow motion and it makes me feel young and powerful and there's a strut to my step. And because this was quite a small film I just love it when I find other people who know about this scene, it's like a magic little secret.
I think that they sped up the music, Felicity Jones lip synched at high speed, and then here in this video they slowed her down to normal speed, and overdubbed the record so that she is both "in slow motion" and at normal speed. This technique was also used I think for Beach House Wishes ua-cam.com/video/OS6duOoxctw/v-deo.html
Hey there Mozart, I use to look like you in the '70's, lol, an entirely different era indeed! When I'm watching this clip, it literally takes me back to: "when I was young". Enjoy your life man, time passes very, very quickly. I would give anything to be your age again! '
this was a great film ...kinda reminds me of me and my life. Great 80's brilliant! I am lucky to be apart of it.. 'the 80's that is' .Thank you for this movie it brought me back to Newport Beach Southern CA my younger...
I've never seen this movie so I really have no idea who these characters are, but I noticed that the guy's outfit (particularly the jacket and hair) look very similar to something Bryan Ferry wore in a photoshoot in the 70's. Love it!
That sax, just before the verse kicks in, and then the impossibly lovely Girl Who Got Away...this scene made my hair stand on end when I saw the movie. Takes me back to being 16 when just holding a girls hand (if it was the right girl) sent a an electric spark through me.
Im a 40 something, so my flashback would be the early 80s, but I think the message of the movie is still relevant. And I am quiet sure it will be relevant for our children and their nostalgia. Its been a very long time since a movie has touched me so poignantly.Truly brilliant.

First time heard song If there is something in this movie and still listen to it. There is something sad and yet powerful in this song, always makes me cry.
still fav scene #roxymusic #flashbacksofafool
dance starts at 2:50
This is facts...I was looking up the wrong name of the movie but remembered Eve was in it.
The director Baillie Walsh was blessed to have Daniel Craig as a friend before he was well known. Craig helped the movie get made and was also one of the Executive producers.

I loved the actor in this the way he looked so cool like a young David Bowie. I don’t think he did any more films after this. Harry Eden. Peter Pan.
You can forget this film, but this scene you will never forget!
Flashback off fool
This scene is the only great thing in this film .... it’s worth watching just for this
@@kazamaxi i think that film one of the most undervaluing
You must not have been paying attention.....it was worth while.
@@winterwhite282 yes.....this film hit me hard 😢

I couldn't agree more.
So am I :)
It's EXACTLY how I feel. I can't recall anything about the movie, but this scene.

One of the best scenes i've ever seen in a film..ever. This scene still gives me the chills.
Rock'n'Roll Nightclub , just love this scene and of course the classic song, a band so ahead of their time.
Rock'n'Roll Nightclub snap. i didnt see your comment till after i wrote mine😎🤘
Rock'n'Roll Nightclub just give me a shiver too, love the whole film. The girl reminds me of an ex I should never have let go of , so has a sentimental meaning for me also.
Ditto!
Fuck yes ;)
this scene is just flawless
In my opinion one of the most iconic scenes of any movie
She becomes an archetype, a tantric goddess. Almost like some passage in the Bhagavadgita, when "ordinary" characters suddenly reveal a divine essence. The scene is marvelous, hypnotic. Sucks to be your generation. Boring!😅

How can anybody forget their childhood love.
The last 2 minutes of this video is pure magic.
one of the greatest scenes ever.
Honestly the best scene in the movie.
Of all movies ever made you mean... :)

Felicity Jones looks like goddess, such a beauty.
She is.
I love her so much

this is so true
Same here been more than 10 years give me goosebumps
Couldn’t said it better. This movie is spectacular
Yes reminds me of my later years in high school and many old friends…..especially one or two old girlfriends! Bes t years of my life….

I was born in 1970 so I feel so old when you young ones say I was born in 1990s but so glad you discovered this awesome music.
+Mozart Herbert the 70s were great for me. Born in 59. got into music 72 big time - roxy, bowie zappa, yes, genesis e.l.p. floyd etc great times.
I was born in 1992, too.

Flashbacks of a Fool ?
You'd be a fool to watch it.
I watch this late one night couldn't sleep and i will NEVER forget it
i watched this bout 5 years ago certain scenes sent shivers through me
The dance scene hypnotizes me.
It is one of masterpices in cinematograophy and sadly in only 20 years people will recognize it. Be proud to know it before all of them.

Love it!...can't stop watching this scene - it's just perfect! Felicity Jones & Harry Eden enact it sooo well.
Beautiful girl, beautiful song. This is marvelous...
Love this film, certainly takes me back. I had a girlfriend in the 70’s and we would debate who was the coolest Bowie or Ferry.....
i think this is in my top 3 of movie scenes ever! she looks amazing!

The best song of Roxy Music !
A late night film randomly on BBC, fell in love with story character s and sound track!!!xxx
The song and the scene capture the ever so fleeting beauty of life and love!

What an awesome scene. I saw this movie just recently. This scene and song I cannot get out of my mind.
Great scene
Having loved the song for years I'll have to check out the movie.
It’s been 10 years since I’ve been hypnotized by this part of “Flashbacks”; how magical this song and scene.
Perfect embodiment of lost youth and lost love
Such a rush of energy and emotion Remember getting hi for the first time and listening to it i felt like how much better can life get......
sent shivers up me spine

It's his voice, as much as the lyrics...and Andy Mackay's perfect mournful sax 👌. Has the same effect now as it did when it came out. Perfection.
I dedicate this beautiful scene to Joanna ... my beautiful soul-mate. I remember watching this with you, I love you!Richard
brilliant scene. this movie is great.
Brings back old memories

Liz you might like the song Mother of Pearl from their Stranded album. The lyrics remind us of how we all perceive others differently.

Enjoy your life man, time passes very, very quickly. I would give anything to be your age again!
'
And with that scene, Felicity Jones stole this movie.
Just a great movie. I wish it were more popular
this was a great film ...kinda reminds me of me and my life. Great 80's brilliant! I am lucky to be apart of it.. 'the 80's that is' .Thank you for this movie it brought me back to Newport Beach Southern CA my younger...

Amo essa cena,amo essa música.
Espetacular
Today ..I m watching this movie after 3 yrs., nd I get so emotional when I see the dance scene, the song !! wow !!!!!!!!
Im a 40 something, so my flashback would be the early 80s, but I think the message of the movie is still relevant. And I am quiet sure it will be relevant for our children and their nostalgia. Its been a very long time since a movie has touched me so poignantly.Truly brilliant.
“All the sanguine guesswork of youth is there, and the silliness; all the novelty of being alive and impressed by the urgency of tremendous trifles”
I too cannot escape this scene. 1973 was for me one of the exceptional years of my life the real change between being a child and an adult. This captures the feel and emotion of the period perfectly. And Roxy too, Bowie and Ferry are were gods then and in my heart gods still
No movie scene has ever impacted me as much as this one.
This scene actually happened to me circa 1978 even the girl looked the same her parents were out and we danced, id like to ad I didn't have make up on other than that every time I watch this scene and the fantastic film its from its like I'm living it all over again one of the best low budget films and films I have ever seen .
Sure is a powerful scene and film Claudia .
A beautiful movie.
