Thank you
Hi
Continuing with the repairs on this Astra, first few repairs on this video: • Vauxhall/Opel Astra 1....
It is now time to tackle another problem, a P0170 and seen at the end of the above video...
Had a similar/same problem on an Insignia while back, as mentioned on the video, video for that here: • Vauxhall/Opel Insignia...
NOTE: Around minute 8, I forgot to also mention that another reason for the tank ventilation valve, (EVAP), is also to avoid the fuel evaporative substances to be released into the atmosphere, but instead burned by the engine during the combustion process...
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.

Here is a heads up for anyone suffering a combined P0170 and P0301 fault. The P0301 is a faulty firing number 1 cylinder, it illuminates the engine management fault light , but apart from hard starting the car runs ok. The occasional, ( virtually undectible ) miss fire makes the lambda sensor think the car is running rich due to partially unburnt fuel in the exhaust gases. So It weakens and already lean burn engine, to running far too weak, making the P0170 fault seem like MAF or an air leak, or one of many other potentials. So if your P0170 is combined with a P0301, it is likely either a plug faulty or a slightly faulty coil pack that isn't exactly noticeable in the cars performance characteristics. I hope this helps at least one person, as a lean mixture can be caused by other faults not related to air leaks or faulty fuel air sensors or equipment. If the lambda sensor detects a weak mixture it can send a signal to try correct that fault , in the same way if it sense a rich mixture it can adjust its own mixture to try weaken it , when there was nothing wrong with the mixture to start with , just a bad firing cylinder causing unburnt fuel to make the sensors think the car is running rich , so it then adjusts it's self to try rectify a fault it cannot self correct. So in actuality the P0301 fault creates the situation that causes the P0170 fault
Now that's what I call a proper job. His car was running absolutely horribly and now it's purring smoothly, huge transformation!! Great job, great effort!
😊
Thanks!
👍👍
well done ... nearly as difficult as trying to find the Easter eggs in the garden, another useful video, thanks
🤣🤣🤣
Have you found any?🤔
👍👍👍
I just came across your channel and I am very impressed by your knowledge and skill.
😊
Thanks!
👍👍👍
You have knowledge about the lean and rich running of the engine . It stays a very difficult topic for many mechanics. A lot of them get confused looking at the live data that`s constantly changing . The gas cap that you talked about briefly and the purge valve are common things but I have seen the craziest things being changed A/F sensors , lambda sensors , inlet collectors while the right repair was a 5€ vacuum line connector . This kind of repairs are not for DIYers because they can become very expensive very fast . Knowledge and Experience are a must . Nice job Luis .
Absolutely agree!
😊
Thanks, for watching and for your comment!
Excellent job, well done,I wish you have a video fixing the fuel gauge issue,as it shows that you have fuel, but also telling you to refuel on the MFD
😊
👍👍👍
I've changed the air mass meter and the evap valve and front 02 sensor
Excellent, would never have thought about that!
😊
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Probably you had lean condition because the outside temp was low and the car was low on fuel, because there were no fumes from the tank with the improvised fuel cap and vent valve stuck open; on a kia ceed I had exactly the same scenario but it was running rich because it was sucking always fumes. Also the fuel tank had more fuel and it was warm outside so more fumes.
Anyway, good job like always.
Thank you for another good video!
😊
👍👍👍
I must say
You are very good in Vauxhall cars
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Nah he is simply very good with cars
😊
@@LMAutoRepairs ok i forgot the most important. A very good person.
Great repair job from a to z Luis!
😊
Thanks!
hi my one is opposite it is reading rich -25 my car is running rich and has a sunsequent misfire only on vaccuum when on boost it is fine i have changed so far intake gasket and subsequent gaskets for the whole intake, afm, map, injector orings as one was cracked changed fuel pump and filter as pump was a banshee and replaced the exhaust manifold due to inner turbine housing being cracked causing me to think it was leaking boost i have no idea where to go to next i am thinking of evap now. my car is a astra vxr with a p0170 error code no other codes exist.
should say when crusing and at idle the o2 readings are
crusing - 0.8-0.9 constant on both although the second one takes some time for it to go up to that when i first drive it after a code reset.
idle - after a while the front and rear goes up and down constantly untill i turn on the a/c to smooth it out as it increases the rpm and loads the motor.
Purge valve or vent valve ?
what valve was it mate? mine has the same problem. Thumbs up man..
My mum's Micra does the same thing it idol's rough and the same thing the green wire going to the fuel vent valve is frayd
Great find my friend top work 🙌
Thanks Igor!
👍👍👍
Hi
I want to ask you how you could know that the vent valve is failed ?
Because i know that this valve is normaly open
Hey Luis!
Thanks for another great video.
God bless
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Excellent video as always.
Thank you.
Thanks!
👍👍👍
My code is P0170-2 Lean. Anti theft O2 sensor 2 lean.
Replaced exhaust system sensors and Maf and codes still come up and splutters a little on idle
You need to test and stop replacing parts...
A lean condition means too much air, or not enough fuel...
Check for leaks on the intake, or blocked injectors...
👍👍👍
Done all that even an EVAP test. Apparently on the MK4 which I have the ECU packs up due to it being bolted to the engine.
@sysy8047
It is possible... but you should be able to test if that is the case...
And new fuel cap after a couple of days the same fault has occurred again
Great videos. Thank you!
😊
👍👍👍
My charcoal fliter blocked pipes to purge valve had to blow pipes with air line
I have a question - where did you purchase the purge valve what’s model number I have 2006 model z8xer
Hi
All in the video...
👍👍👍
Hi, I have the P0170 error coming up, with EML on, it only seems to happen when my car is just sat idling, when I’m driving the car etc the EML won’t come up, any ideas at all please
Have you done any checks as per the video?
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs Unfortunately I don’t have one of them tools, I only have a standard OBD tool, Fuel Trim Bank 1 I’m receiving
@@TravM8did you solve the problem. I need help
@ It was linked with problems within my EGR & MAF sensor
Hi can you let me know what the part number is for the purge valve, I can't get one to match my Astra H.
Remember that the part number might have been superceded...
I showed the bosh part number on the video...
Thank you for watching!
I have a 57 plate 1.8 xer astra! Engine starts and runs fine but as you try to accelerate hard it hesitates!
Also tried the disconnecting the intake hose which made.this a lot.worse! Any ideas?
Have you scanned the car, or looked at some live data?
Thank you for watching!
Would E10 petrol cause fuel trim issues compared to E5?
Not really...
👍👍👍
I used to have one with same problem and sold it with the problem lol
😊
👍👍👍
Where did you buy that valve ? I can't find these anywhere online
eBay...
Thank you for watching!
How the hell can you lose your fuel cap? My 15 year old Kia still has a plastic string that is attached to the cap. Is it a case of "brute force and ignorance"?
BTW I really like your style of videos Louis, please carry on.
Don't know either how that can be lost... 🤷♂️
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
👍👍👍
It's because it probably broke and they put it on the roof and forgot in a hurry and it fell and broke and they didn't think they'd need it my mom did that on a 05 verso it didn't effect the car at all
👍
Great job
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Great work 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Isn't this an Astra H (mk V)? Great video series btw.
Correct, the astra g is from 1998 to 2004
My bad... title corrected...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs That will make it easier to search!
👍👍👍
My insignia has the same problem
Would that be enough to cause the car to hunt etc at idle?
Well... possibly... specially in cold...
Specially if you add all the other issues the car came with...
Thank you for watching!
Dose the z18xe have this sensor?
Not sure, but should have...
👍👍👍
Unfortunately it does. It's unfortunate because the Z18XE has a slightly different valve, and I literally cannot find a replacement anywhere. I ordered the one the dude is installing in the video anyways, hoping it'll work.
hi! please give me the OEM number of that part, I'm afraid the wrong OEM was installed on me.
with the Z18xer engine.
thank you
I am not sure of the OEM one... only the bosch one, which is on the video...
What model is your Autel diagnostic tool?
MS908P...
Thank you for watching!

@@LMAutoRepairs where are you based? I have a fuel trim issue on my Astra
This is a part time for me... and I am quite busy with other things at the moment...
Any codes accompanying the FT issue?
Thank you for watching!
12:37 This is not correct! If the short fuel trim is 0 the long fuel trim can be anything! Short fuel trim 0 means that the system is stabilized into a standard air-fuel consumption. This does not mean that it consume as much as it should. For example... long fuel trim could be +15% and short fuel trim could be 0%. This means that the system is stabilized but it constantly adds more fuel to balance with the air that the car takes. This +15% of the long fuel trim is an intake manifold air leak! There are ways to find the leak with smoke. :)
Correct... but I stand correct that if everything is good, both fuel trims will eventually hoover around zero...
That's all I was saying...
Thank you for watching!
@@LMAutoRepairs Yes , if you did everything correct both should be around 0 but you never know unless you check the long fuel trim :)
👍👍👍
Do your neighbours ever complain about you working on cars in your driveway?
Why should they?
They don't complain when they ask me for help...😊
Thank you for watching!
Hello everybody🖐
😊

Problem engines same as z16xep
I'd like you to check my Vauxhall Zafira b 1.6 Petrol. Please get in touch as I couldn't find your contact details.Cheers
I hope to help me from your experience which scan tool is good approximately (500 700) dollar thank you
I know I am biased... but Autel has some scanners on that price range...
Thank you for watching and for your comment.!
Hi there, did you asked the owner of the vehicle to authorize you to record the fixing? You using any document / sheet signed to let you do so? Thanks!!
Alguien que explique esto, en español.. Gracias
Hi mate where are you based can you check out my z18xer
Why would you pin this and not reply 😒
I can't check it... but I can try to give you my opinion...
What is wrong?
Too much talking, where's the fuel trim video?
I talk what as much as I want...🤷♂️
Which video are you referring to?
Kermit the frog fixes astras now
🤔🤷♂️
But he's good
Thanks!
bro help me please I got opel astra 1.4 16v. Car is running too quiet and when I move my foot from gas pedal car doesnt slow down much. It drives like there s no engine braking like there s no vacuum. Also gas noozle keeps clicking when I pump gas. Is my problem evap ? Am i loosing all the vacuum and engine power because of evap?
Could be...
You need to do some testing to determine the problem...
