    I ran one of these engines in a 2008 vectra C. I did 170000 miles in 6 years with no problems. According to a mechanic friend I was lucky that it lasted so well. However that vectra was my most reliable car yet.

    I did exactly this job a few months back after all manner of other issues with my 2011 tourer insignia. Overheating issues (broken water pump impeller, radiator clogged with stop leak, leak on the expansion bottle, MAF sensor fault and EVAP valve fault). Took some real working out and lots of testing before finally (touch wood) being able to run the car without MIL lights, overheating or blowing the radiator. Originally thought was so bad that the head had gone - Compression test and Radiator leak detector test showed it was good thankfully! Only owned the car 4 months so far 3 of which fixing between working

    Opel cars were good in the past .. these days they are just a mess .. even been the worst after PSA company managed them.

      I disagree and PSA at least make them lighter and decrease spare part costs which was every expensive because of GM licencing - like in this case.
      Another bad thing in GM days was chain timing. Is not very robust in any new car, because of emissions/consumption and it will last the same as rubber belt, but compare belt and chain replacement. Chain replacement is 3 times more expensive and takes a lot of effort.

      @@niccots Your saying is true but what I am seeing is Opel went from worst to bad reliability now with PSA ... For my opinion if Iam going to buy a new car for sure it will not be Opel or Peugeot / Citroen.
      Their market is going down these days rapidily unfortunately.
      By the way I have Peugeot 406 1998 and I am happy with HER 😊

    How spooky. A friend has a 2016 Vauxhall Mokka 1.4 turbo with same P0171. Only yesterday, I tested the same valve by blowing and it is fine. It is closed. I am leaning towards the valve cover, but will check for leaks. For now I have cleared the code, which stays off. I know it will return, because I cleared the code a few months ago. This is actually a very SLIGHTLY revised engine to meet more recent emission standards and is the A18XER and not the Z18XER. Decent engine all be it slow in the insignias. Shame they are married with the chocolate M32 box and a dreaded DMF. (Yes a DMF in a 1.8 petrol!)

    • @irishniall83
      @irishniall83 3 роки тому +1

      @@rogerjones8069 that mad a DMF on them, likely slowing it down. Cheers on the correction. I did drive an insignia 1.8 and found it slow compared to the Vectra. Good engine though. The F17 gearbox is in the Vectra and chocolate too, on my 3rd during 12 years ownership, they eat the bearings.

      @@irishniall83 I know right! I was told when buying it didn’t have a DMF only to go and research it and find they do indeed. Never have I ever known a 1.8 or below have a DMF on a petrol! Think of all that weight it carries but in all fairness it gives generally that silky smooth running (ignoring vvt knocks etc). Had my fair share of issues since I purcchased around 6 months ago. Don’t think I’d ever buy another but let’s see how far this one takes me (at circa 2000 miles a year, I’ll be hard pressed to even hit 100,000 within the next 10 years 🤣)

    That style Bosch purge valve is used on many newer GM cars and seems to be a common failure. Should have had evap leak/purge flow codes set, likely someone had been there before you and cleared the codes, and the evap tests had not ran yet.

    That's a very good catch based on a clever logic of how things work.
    Where do you order parts from usually? And do you use original part numbers or just look for alternatives? In my experience it's quite tricky sometimes and take much longer than 3 days.
    Good luck with the diagnostics.

    The closed loop , open loop and the short FT , Long FT is something that a lot of people struggle with understanding . Also as you said , don´t think it´s always the purge valve . In this case it was obvious when you blew through it that the biggest issue was the valve . I have had multiple occasions that the valve but also pipes, fuel cap , blocked cat contributed to the FT being off . Good video as always . P.S , are you ever considering to built a small garage with a small scissor lift ?

      Indeed they have... this was recorded about 11 months ago... but even then I started to see some ridiculous prices at the dealers...

    Hi, I have a major problem with my VXR GTC since 2018. Been too 4 different garages including vauxhall peter vardy. NO LUCK, so I will try to repair myself
    No rev count, EGM + ESP light on
    P0315 - Crankshaft position not learned
    P0335 - Crankshaft sensor Circuit
    U0100 - Lost communication with ECM
    Sensor, Ecu, engine wiring harness, timing chain, sprockets have all been replaced. Issue stays the same. Thinking it is a wiring issue. Any advice on where to start as garages dont want to mess with wiring...

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  3 роки тому +1

      Start on the engine ecu wiring... there is not much more to advise...
      Check wiring from the sensor to the ecu...
      Power, grounds etc...
      The sensor, was that a genuine or an aftermarket?

      @@LMAutoRepairs I found your video as I was checking reviews on Autel electrical Probe, i have Autel Maxidas ds708 pro so hopefully with the right tools I can do fault finding
      Genuine parts direct from Vauxhall, crankshaft sensor replaced total of 4 times as each garage suggested there could be a fault on the sensor

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  3 роки тому

      I would scope the timing first...
      If the timing is out, or something else is not right, you might get those codes...
      That would be my next step... Well, that would have been one of the steps before replacing all of those parts... which obviously where not faulty... As you still have the same problem...
      Só, yes, scope the timing and compare it with a good known sample...
      👍👍👍

    • @aparvez88
      @aparvez88 3 роки тому +1

      @@LMAutoRepairs I will give the timing a check over. Thank you
      Just to add the codes prior to any garage being involved remain the same. Even vauxhall dealership replaced timing chain twice as they assumed there was an issue the first time they replaced it... Big headache since 2018 with car being off road
