Don't worry about responding to every comment, it's not practical to respond to everyone. I love your videos it's really inspiring me for my own decluttering journey. I like it when ordinary people make UA-cam's, it wouldn't be realistic if it was only ever the super confident people doing it. People like you keep it real and I can relate much better.

Hi Catherine, I'm loving this series! Great job on the basement and other areas and your parents home. I too take comments to heart so I understand your hesitation reading some comments. I just got to you talking about negative comments. I am pausing your video to tell you that you are doing a great job. I know it’s hard to take crap from people but imagining living with all that negativity and thinking you need to spread it around, especially to someone who has done nothing to you but put a video on UA-cam. Yikes! Please keep being the positive person that you are. The world needs more people like you. Keep being YOU. Thank you for your videos!

Great job in basement and car. This stuff had accumulated over several years. I love your insight about why you had so much decor-not because you liked or wanted it, but because you thought other people would like it. Suddenly, it’s like you had been asleep but you just woke up.
I know from experience that once you are awake to your habits of buying stuff, you never go back to mindless shopping and collecting again. The liberating feeling is so addictive. I’ve hardly bought anything in years and yet I continue to declutter even the things I never thought I’d part with. It gets easier and easier.
I now consider myself an essentialist. Everything I own has a use. I “decorate” with the things I use and I don’t keep things I don’t use. Nothing is pure decor any more. Given a choice of decor, I prefer empty space.

    • @CatherineElaine
      @CatherineElaine  3 місяці тому +2

Oooh I love that term!! I’ve never heard essentialist before. To me that makes much more sense than a “minimalist” at least for me, personally. Thank you!

I have never really followed what the social trends were for decor. I am a senior citizen, and I've always decorated my home according to what I love, whether that be trendy or not. When you get into the mindset of following trends, it can become a trap, and you can fill your house with somebody else's decor items that do not reflect your taste or how you feel. Good for you at maintaining that mindset of what it feels right for you in your home!❤

Girl your decluttering videos have been 🔥 lately! They’re my favorite type of videos from you so far. Haters will always be there, and it has always helped me to remember that them being hateful for no reason says more about them than about you. You can’t help it if they’re unhappy with themselves. I don’t know if you can block users on YT, but if so, blocking can be very empowering 😅. From one sensitive person to another, it’s not you…it’s definitely them and they’re absolutely not worth your precious time. Keep it up! 👍🏼

I thoroughly enjoyed this last installment on your basement! Great job! You are so conscientious and detail-oriented that it is a pleasure to hear your comments on what you are thinking as you go along. Try to avoid the negative comments and maybe eliminate and block those people so as to increase your peace... I know it can be hard but it's worth it to discourage them and make it less stressful to receive comments at all. Unfortunately there are too many negative persons who like nothing better than to share their complaints and spread unhappiness. They are not healthy or balanced emotionally and are not anyone who can be pleased as they will always find something not to like... You are a lovely lady and it is a joy to share in your organizing growth! Thank you for providing these videos! bye

I know it's probably very hard to listen to the HATERS, I can't even imagine. I just want u to know that I'm 65 & just started in the last 5 or more yrs to declutter my apt. I'm not as good at it as u r, but I'm really working hard to get to the point where u r. U have motivated me so much & my life feels so much lighter. I've always said that I feel like a organized hoarder. Hahaha I think I actually started my decluttering when COVID hit. I didn't shop like everyone else did, but started purging bcuz I prayed that we would never have this much time at home ever again in my lifetime. Lol It's amazing how much stuff we collect over the yrs. Also, I shop with purpose now not for what I want. Fun fact, I actually saved a few thousand $ during COVID by not going out or shopping on line. COVID was my turning point in many ways. Keep up the amazing work u have totally inspired me & the HATERS r just jealous. 🧹🪣🧼🧽🧴

“Back in the day” our Christmas decorations were the Christmas Tree, stockings and maybe a string of lights on outside door or window. The tree was enough for us kids to get excited. This is where I am heading in decor, maybe a couple more items, especially a manger scene.

I would take it personally, too! It's a shame there are such rude, thoughtless people out there.
Excellent job on the basement! Such a lot of work! I'm glad you clarified that you donated what you could; "throwing it all out" sounds like you're throwing everything in the trash. It makes us all think twice about casual shopping.
My main holiday for decorating is Christmas, and I need to go thru my many bins, and purge. When there are too many decorations, then I don't even want to put them all out! I've only bought what I like, but I can understand the peer pressure if you're on social media.
    Thx for all the inspiration!

Great videos! I have been decluttering for many years (much older than you lol) and when my parents moved into retirement homes their house which was small was packed. I did the majority of it and it took a long time. I am determined to get our house decluttered & organized. It is a continual process I love shopping but in the past few years I just don't go to stores much. Being mindful of what we need vs what we want is a learning curve. Great idea to let your husband go thru his own things but don't let him procrastinate because it will soon get recluttered. Wow so glad you cleaned out the car. You must feel really good. Don't forget to put a trash bag in the back seat and make sure the kids are taught to throw their trash in there. You can hang it on the headrest. Now that we've settled down in a small home again, I still only use 1 tote for the main decorations (just added a small tree & a wreath for the door) so it now 3 containers but that is just fine with us ❤

I loved the basement declutter. It was really motivational. Everything looks so organized and great😊. Curious now that you've decluttered the basement, are there any future plans to finish that side? It's to bad that people have nothing better to do than complain and criticize someone else. 23:31 I think it's really sad that all the declutter videos I watch everyone always has to say they are recycling what they can. Most people will do what they can to donate or recycle there stuff. Your videos are great, keep doing what you're doing😊. Everything you have done so far had turned out exceptional. Because of your decluttering I'm decluttering my spaces. Thanks again for all your hard work and motivating me to do something. 😊

When you talked about the amount of trash you had it resonated with me. I have bags of old insulation we tore out of the garage, and pieces of drywall, etc. I'm wondering if it's cheaper to get a dumpster or have someone haul it away.
I'm definitely more careful with my purchases. I never want a repeat of this mess.

I love me a good declutter. And yes it´s hard to get rid off so much stuff we thought we need or want at one point. But you are also right: It is what it is. And as long as we learn from it .. Put your winter coats in one of the better boxes since you have them and use why not use a a box for your husbands cards - that way they are all in one spot and it looks tidy. 😁 I´m sorry about you and so much other people getting nasty comments - but I think that is just the state of our world. Sadly! Hugs from Germany 💕

Good job, keep and do what makes you happy. FYI, a mouse got into my car because I had a pack of cookies in there, took a long time to find it and get rid of it. That sure became my motivation to not allow food crumbs etc to stay in my car. 😂

Catherine, you are doing a great job decluttering! I watch your videos for tips and ideas on decluttering. Ignore the rude comments! They have no place here. If they can't be encouraging, then don't comment. As for the holidays...I never worry about what someone has. I am glad you are not one to keep up with the Jones', it's too much work. Do you. I love buying holiday and seasonal decor, but I don't go insane buying it.

You're doing great! The only thing with using the dawn power wash on your car is that it could strip the protective wax off the paint on the outside of the car. I use dawn to clean the windshield/windows to get them super clean before re-applying rain-x though. :D

We got those shelves like you have. I used to store a lot of my holiday decor in printer paper boxes since they were uniform and easy to lift. Now I am working my way into putting them in clear bins for easier visuals when pulling them down for each season. Our room is a HOT mess right now where we've pulled all the things out in transition. You might consider using the two leftover bins for your husbands baseball cards.

I had at least 150 photo albums. Went through every one. Pulled out only pictures I absolutely wanted. Got rid of all the scenery ones from vacations, pictures of people I really didn't know or care about, and all the duplicates. I had school picture envelopes from my grown kids. I kept 1 picture from them and pitched the rest. Went from tubs of albums to a small container of the most important. I then scanned all the pictures onto a flashdrive made copies of that and gave to each of my kids. Lets face it, when we pass, our kids don't want all this clutter. (A flashdrive is nothing to store.)
