Sick, pregnant and a new born are not excuses. something has to go on the back burner to survive. Seeing this made me glad I don't have a basement in this house. I used to hate cleaning them out, it's just a pit of deferred decisions. Now I have to use it or lose it, a basement only made me keep things for two years before I threw them out.

The basement looks wonderful Catherine. I know that you are glad to get that done. All your hard work will really be felt when you go to move and do not have to deal with it all then.

I find it weird to see people cleaning with kitchen paper. I always use rags and other cloths that can be washed.

Wanted to share a basement cleaning method used by my Great Aunt Myra: she swore by using a multi-purpose spray (often also antibacterial like for kitchens and bathrooms) in her basement. She added about 12 drops of cedar essential oil into the dispenser bottle (or eucalyptus or peppermint if out of cedar) and shook it hard to mix before each use. She claimed it not only removed dust but dirt, oils and whatever clings to these substances! The cedar helped her with insect issues as they (spiders, ants and maybe roaches?) don't like these strong smells and chemical makeup... It seemed to work pretty well and her basement always smelled great! Just a suggestion if you are interested... - Wonderful video, thank you for sharing it! Looking forward to more! Bye

Oh its okay, we have been in our house 4 years, and when we moved in, my husband was working 6 sometimes 7 days a week, 14-16 hours a day. We just threw things around the house to get them "put away" but I am on a mission this summer to get the garage and shed completely cleaned out and organized and feel like my house is coming together.

Another thought- you mentioned "freshening" the articles of clothing and/or covers from the basement which were musty or questionable to use for your family unless deemed clean and safe... What I do is use large wool dryer balls in the dryer, adding a combination of essential oils on them in order to make them aromatic. I also intend to repel possible insects if I am going to store the blanket, duvets, pillows, etc. so one of the oils is cedar (thanks, Aunt Myra). The other two oils are orange (my favorite) and clove (goes well with orange and balances the cedar's crispness)... Just an option as I know not everyone wants to go to this detail. However, I have had great success in pulling out items from storage only to find them fresh and ready-to-use. I do throw away what is not salvageable or in question. Good work for my household- a little planning goes a long way! Bye

I recently painted my basement and laundry area a gorgeous turquoise. It now brightens my spirit every time I go down there. I also put up a curtain rod and visually separated off all the storage. Just an idea but maybe find a color that brightens your spirits and paint your laundry basement. You will be amazed by the difference.

Catherine, I woud get rid of that vaccume, once dropping go through the wind it can get into the motor, cleaning the filter isn't enouogh. A shop vac would have been better to use in the basement, you can pick one up for not too much money, the smaller one, great for water in the basement or picking up dirt, the bucket where they stuff goes can be cleaned out with detergent includig the hose. I would be concerned with the kids usinng your vaccum upstairs. What a great job you did! It is easy to keep up with now that it is organized!

I feel 2020 was the year of divorce. Everyone I knew, or watch on UA-cam, and ME myself, all had our brush with divorce - either thinking about it, were about to go through with it, trial separation, or actually executed the divorce procedure. I need to get so much better at discarding the unnecessary and stop being such a pack rat. It's crept up on me once I put down roots and stopped moving from rental to rental every few months. When I was young all my possessions fitted in a couple of car loads I never even had to hire movers. Now look at me! My entire home looks like your basement "before" pics
