I used to use the Boss OC3, after hearing Gilad Hekselmann talk about it, essentially using the POLY mode to add a bassline in a jazz context. The Boss OC5 adds a new feature "lowest" in POLY where it can identify the lowest note in the the chord, which I think is unique? And super useful. Obviously.
I've decided to make it possible to grab BOTH BUNDLES (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
You can get my EXPRESSION patches in this bundle using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...
Try my NORMAL patches (90+) for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...
Try my patches for Pod GO for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com...
/ johnnathancordy - tabs and backing will be here

It’s really nice hearing the effect of this pedal on clean melodic playing. The pedal is great but you’re the star! Many thanks.
Absolutely beautiful playing
Thanks for the shout-out!
Great Playing and a demo John. I remember when violinists loved the old Boss Octaver to give them thick and an Ensemble-Like Sound
Lovely stuff mate thank You
You make everything sound good Johnathan❤️
You’re playing is stunning!
Great demo and Very Early at the end was a great surprise 😊 cheers
Man guess that explains why you play so well Jazz background, been watching you the last few months, so guessing I it is the best way to move your playing forward into other styles… or what would you suggest?
look at the pedal - isn't she lovely
John, I’m an acoustic player. I loved that you dug into this pedal, I do have a jazz master, but primarily am using this with my Taylor acoustic. Any chance we could see a pedal board setup?
Great playing bro
Love the playing, but my man - can you let me know what that strap is? I went looking for Dog Days straps but they seem tough/impossible to get in Aus.
Franklin Straps!!
That was my exact same thought! That strap is incredible.
@@BCguitar75 I got one - they're long, I'm gonna have to find a leather worker to shorten the end piece.
You’re playing has inspired me for years on IG but I JUST discovered your UA-cam 😅What was the song you played at the end!? And was the bass played with the pedal?
Yeh the bass is the pedal and it's Very Early - Bill Evans!
Is the direct level at unity volume when it's at 12 O'Clock?
Amazing changes playing mate. Have you done a video on soloing over isn't she lovely? I know Tom Quayle has covered it, using Lydian dominant etc but I'd love to see a breakdown on how you approach it.
Ok can do! Cheers Will!
Guitar sounds great
Once again, playing mannn 🤌🤌🤌🥹
That is a really cool feature! Nice Stevie Wonder cover.
I’ve been looking at the OPFXS dig deep pedal which does a similar thing, but it doesn’t work so well with an acoustic guitar apparently (although there’s a new version specifically for acoustic in development). For me the lowest note option is where this pedal excels, and I think I will very soon be parting with the £120 to add to my pedalboard and acoustic set up. Great review and playing... thanks..👍
OPFXS dig deep pedal has only one output. OC5 has 2, its a good option to route the bass signal to a bass amp. I 've been waiting for this function for a while.
I have both, OC5 blows it out of the water
@@samsschool3639hi, can you explain how the OC-5 out performs the dig deep? I’m looking to use a pedal for the lowest note option on acoustic
Ofcource my friend,
I am the same, I only want it for Acoustic guitars, the first thing you need to do is find a magnetic sound hole pickup for your acoustic guitar - Listen on youtube between different models to find one you like. Remember, it has to be magnetic, condenser mics won’t work!
The boss OC5 does everything the Dig Deep does but has more features, and has slightly better tracking when you are playing higher notes. The best option for both pedals is to switch completely to barre chords to be safe if you play a lot of chords (Fingerstle works best for both pedals).
The OC5 has two outputs, one clean, one with the effect, you can choose to blend or sepparate however you want
The OC5 has more knobs and more modes
However, the only thing I might give the Dig Deep on the upper hand is the sound quality of the base note, to my ears, the OC5 can sound a bit “synthy” or electronic, the Dig Sounds Juuuust a bit more natural.
Both pedals work WAY better with fully electric guitars

@@samsschool3639 thanks. So the dig deep in your view has a better sounding bass sound? I checked the specs and the dig deep can also spilt the signal. Thanks for the review 👍
not nearly enough Boss hating going on in this video for my liking
Great playing and review!Your thoughts on this vs TC Sub'n up???
The dachshund hat rules.
What a wonderful demo and playing! Does anyone know exactly what device John Nathan Cordy is using for the drum kit? Thank you.
What is called this tune on 7.44?
Beautiful playing! on the "lowest note" setting, if you play a piece without any bass notes, let's say an arpeggio on the 3 higher strings, would the pedal pick up the lowest note of that arpeggio and move it an octave below?
Yes that's right (well if you play them at the same time) - if you're just playing single notes, it'll just do a normal octave I think
@@johnnathancordy If OC-5 didn't have the lowest note option and you had to use the poly mode with setting the range, would you prefer OC-5 over OC-3? has the tracking improved or it's the same?
"through some sort of magic"... love it. In lowest note mode, will it do the 5 under the lowest note or just the octave?
Just the octave
Where do I get the tab for those intro chords?
Wish there was a way to select presets via MIDI.
What is the white pedal?
It was usefull, thanks🙂
😍😍😍
Smooth
Best of luck in that case #believeallyoutubejazzmusiciansoverlarrydavid
Thanks for this! Great video. Absolutely with you on poly mode. I use the OC3 for fingerstyle and love the bottom end. Excited I'd be able to strum with the OC5 and get a clear single sub octave. Can you have your cake and eat it and still set a range when it's on lowest note? If I was alternating between strumming 6 string chords and picking melodies on the g,b and e strings in the same bar, I wouldn't want lowest note to kick in on the melodies. That make sense?
Yeh I guess that's a potential downside actually, like not only do you want the "RANGE" option, but also "Lowest" - but yeh for lowest will kick in on melodies if you're not playing anything low down!
The only way round this is to get a submarine pickup or similar that actually provides a separate output which you then run through an octave pedal. But this oc5 sounds like it comes as close as you can using just an octave pedal. I might buy one while I save up the money to get a fancy range-splitting pickup.
You can obtain a similar effect with the stomp too! Split crossover and an octaver 😉
How exactly? Would you vary the cross over parameters on the fly with an expression pedal? I struggle to manufacture in my head exactly how this OC5 achieves this, is it recognizing the lowest note or is it actively summing the range of highest to lowest and slicing out the bottom 20% and octaving down? It sounds remarkable. Would love to see that mimicked with the new poly gear in helix 3.0
No so this one is actually recognising the lowest note. That's definitely not achievable at present with the Helix stuff
@@AlecBourneMidiMadScientist I'm using poly pitch in path B, Split crossover, frequency 100Hz or below.
@@johnnathancordy that really is remarkable, hmmmmm.
@@paoloschiano9900 This is still not the same as the OC5. When you play let's say an open G chord, it will pick up the bass notes below the freq crossover, which are more than one, that's where the OC5 recognizes the lowest note on those frequencies and play the lowest one. Did that split crossover technique with a DAW and sounds good, but lacks the tracking.
Is there a tab for this?
dude. is that true about the seinfeld music?
Yo😭 so good
Now this is how this pedal is meant to play, this aint no pog
That intro made me want to quit guitar.
