I love the idea of a bus driver pedal. In my head, it's a very specific type of delay in which you play a note which doesn't output to the amp. Then you wait for ages and it plays it 3 times.

    • @Bobby-wn5yr
      @Bobby-wn5yr Рік тому +1

Man the OD3 is an amazing pedal. Tbh it did used to get a lot of recognition, I think it’s sort of fallen by the wayside a bit now with all the boutique pedals offering shiny things to distract people. If boss stopped making it 100% it would be an instant classic and trade hands for hundreds of dollars tbh.
Now. The ODB3 however. The old dirty bastard of bass pedals. That should have been replaced by an odb-5 and a dsb-1 long ago. Don’t get me wrong for a bass pedal in an era where there were very few it’s actually got some great ideas - blend control, bass - focused drive, etc. But it doesn’t actually know if it’s a drive or distortion, it’s too noisey, etc. It’s a first draft really that should have been replaced, but because it was one of the first big bass pedals it’s also kind of it’s own thing…. Even if everyone loves to hate it

I agree with Lee in the idea that the boutique market plays on the idea that people want to be different. I’m a huge fan of many boutique pedal builders and have often times viewed the more common brands as being “generic” or less desirable due to their popularity. It wasn’t until recently when I was looking for a chorus pedal that I realized the folly of that mentality. I hadn’t owned a chorus in probably 10 years but couldn’t find one that fit the sound I had in mind among the boutique options. Checked out the MXR stereo chorus and loved it. It reminded me that sometimes not being overly different isn’t a terrible thing haha. Great video guys!

As far as the T-shirt, You're right I have a shirt with a picture of a boss pedal but it doesn't say boss on it It says everything else. It's a Boss DM3 delay❤ One of my favorite pedals by the way. My first real pedal board was a boss PCB6. It had six boss pedals that all fit in a plastic hard case. It actually was pretty compact and pretty badass back in the day! I love that he ran his reverb going into the delay... this is what I prefer but I know most will tell you reverb is always supposed to go at the very end of your signal chain, unless you have it running through an FX Loop if your amp has one which I've found is where a reverb sounds the best. As far as the Delay goes I prefer it in front of the amp at the end of the chain so you have those perfect tone-tails when you kill the signal abruptly. I have religiously ran these two Boss Pedals on my board and still do, the DD20 and the TU-3 Tuner though I upgraded to the Waza Craft a few years ago after giving my original TU-3 to a young bass player who's tuner burned out just before a gig ( I was guitar teching at the time). For a long time I ran the CE-5 Chorus Ensemble, BF-3 Flanger, OC-3 Super Octave, and of course the immortal DS-1. This was the early to mid- 2000s when the market place didn't have as many makers. I've since expanded my collection and now am a full blown tone-junky, but I assume the vast majority of us in the comment section are. 😜
Anyways... Loved the video and all the jams at the end!!!

Boss pedalboard vs another pedal company like EHX or something else. Could be a fun video.
    Great video as usual!

I have a CE -2w Waza Chorus and a SY-1 Synthesizer on my board. Chorus is awesome, of course, but the Synthesizer is a suprisingly versatile pedal with some great sounds.

The cool thing about Boss pedals is, so long as they are not surface mount, you can easiy upgrade components to improve the tone or change it to get more of what you want...if you know what you're doing choosing components and values. If you work a soldering iron you can modify a Boss pedal.

Been playing since 1996 and have owned countless pedals by so many different companies. Never had a boss stop working or brake, while most the other ones I've owned have stopped working, usually the main switch dies on other pedals
Also if I could pick 6 pedals they would be...Boss... Flanger Course , Delay, EQ, noise reduction, and a metal core.

Paused video: my six pedals is a Blues Driver, Metal Zone, Compression, Delay or Echo, Octave, and a EQ. In addition to that, a Tuner/Mute and a Tubescreamer is essential! Occasionally I may add a Rat for fuzz.

These days there's so many brands and diferent sound pedals that is so difficult to choose wich to buy. I myself i own the boss md500, boss ve500 , boss rc600, and last pedal i purchased is the boss ds1 and next one will be the boss od3 . I don't know why but i start to be more interested in boss single pedals than never before . In my opinion boss pedals are great and somehow are the pioneers when comes to pedals

Sweet guys! I regret getting rid of any of my Boss pedals. Some of my fave artists boards are mostly Boss. We know these classic sounds from countless recordings. I have 3 Boss pedals on my board currently. I would say they are the big Bosses no doubt. I liked Lee's board better, both sounded cool. Cheers!

The Boss SD-1 is the best sounding overdrive pedal I have ever played. Use a SD-1 as a "tube screamer" in front of another drive pedal with a bit more gain on it, oh my god. That's all you need.

    In this order for me:
    1. Blues Driver or SD1 (depends on my amp of choice)
    2. EQ GE7
    3. Chorus
    4. Delay
    5. Compressor/Sustain
    6. Harmonist

This is why I play mostly Boss pedals...and I love their straight forward design. The BD-2 and OD-3 are my favourite drive pedals of all time. The delays. The tuner. Everything sounds great. I think the chorus and the reverb are the two pedals that is lacking a bit. I never liked sea sick chorus - I prefer detune...and I use that instead...mainly in the Yamaha SPX90 rack...and the reverb just doesn't hold up to the Lexicon rack reverbs I use most of the time. But Boss has always been my favourite pedal brand. I've never cared for boutique pedals. I've never heard a boutique pedal that made me think to go away from the BD-2 and OD-3 :)

Absolutely choose Boss over almost every other pedal manufacturer. Price/quality/sound/innovation all level out with Boss.
Plus they look cool. Really like the single stomp box design.

I feel like if I was asked years ago to pick 6 pedals from this selection it would be completely different from what I would pick today. Back then, I'd be playing between an ABY with a Fender Blues Junior and a Peavey 6505+, and I'd be using a tuner, a whole variety of drives and distortions and fuzz, and maybe a Dimension C. Today, so many of the things I want are in my Boss Katana head. So, today, my absolute choices would be a tuner, compressor, graphic equalizer, Blues Driver. As for the remaining two, I'd be choosing between the delay, reverb, SD1, or maybe even the fuzz.
