The whole black parade album is a concept album dealing around a cancer patient. Great album start to finish, not really a bad song on it.
I always interpreted each song as a different person dealing with death, some died from war, vices, illness, and accidents.
And then you have Teenagers which really doesn't fit with the rest of the album. I like it as a song but wish it wasn't on that album tbh
@@AlexLong1000 teenagers talks about the past of the patient
It was his Aunt that died.
@@KamiSamaTheEmperor Yeah it about all the rage he felt growing up
Who’s happy for MCR reunion 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
Absolutely buzzing for it bro!
Wait... What? 😲
DRFT Jester loud wire confirmed that MCR are reunited
@@gameboi20 Did they confirm with joe jonas?
tomas22432 no the lead singer rosted him
The man dying, "The Patient" has a memory of his father taking him to see a parade and it was his favorite memory so for him the Black Parade comes for him when he dies. It's not death necessarily, just this man's death.
This album seriously should have won a Grammy MCR is theee greatest helped me get thru a lot of dark moments
It actually did win one, but it was for the best box set, not really for the music lol
MCR not even had the Rock n Roll hall of fame eveb if they are already elidgibe after their 13 years in the industry. Sorry for the bad english, but MCR SHOULD be inducted in the rock n roll hall of fame.
Jeirk Antoni I don’t think they were eligible were they?
their music is helping me through my recover and i found out my dog died yesterday and they helped me get through the day and have hope.
Mee too!!! I feel like I can conquer the world with this song!
I was never a personal fan of the whole emo genre but MCR was the exception for me. They are so good at what they do that they're undeniable. They're so much more than the stereotypical emo band formula. Fusing punk rock & pop with Queen & David Bowie influences...and creating larger than life epic songs with some theatrical & dramatic flair thrown in. Come on...
It's brilliant & absolutely savage!! MCR has carved their place in music history.
Gerard Way has said multiple times that MCR was never an “emo” band, which is why there are so many more elements than stereotypical emo haha
But hes also the sheriff of emo town
@@febreze9431 lmao 😂
That chick was Mother War actually. You'll hear more of her in "Mama", same album.
this guy created a graphic novel that is now a series on Netflix called The Umbrella Academy.
Holy shit I never knew that gerard way created it.. just looked it up. It was a great show and season 2 should be good.
Sadly the netflix version didn't stick to the comic version.
Gerard made that??? Ow I have to watch it lol
Also created Peni Parker
Did you know that Way is apparently related to Joe Rogan? Lol
The Black Parade represents what comes to get you when you die, the whole album had themes of death and references to soldiers in the world wars, hence the gas masks and bombed out buildings in the video
MCR are very big Queen-Fans, and in this Song you can hear this. Brillant Song.
The guitar is totally Brian May.
Yeah and the song is kinda inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody, you can see how the song changes as it goes.
Here’s more great MCR songs to react to: Teenagers, Helena, I’m Not Ok (I Promise), Mama, Cancer, Na Na Na, Sing.
The ghost of you as well
Famous last words as well
“The kids from yesterday” is one of their more hidden gems, but Helena is really good
One more " I don't love u" is a classic love song.
anything off of their second and third albums is worth a listen
Famous last words by MCR
Still, even after more than 10 years, I want to tattoo those lyrics on my body
I am not afraid to keep on living!
Shhh, still too soon 😢
Gerard Way (the lead singer) takes a lot of inspiration from Freddie Mercury, that's a big part of his character so he knows how to own a stage
I’m finally old enough to pay for my own ticket to go see MCR can’t wait
They were the first band ive ever seen live ever n they fucking killed it!!
This is so cute! Good luck! I got to see em like 12 years ago and it was awesome. Hope u have a great time!
Old is not enough how fast are you?
Did you get one? Tickets gone in minutes
Broken Soul: I can't wait!
Coronavirus: exists
Me: I certainly hope you *can* wait
It's so refreshing to see someone actually appreciate good music
Thankyou! So many reactors miss so much by not having the lyrics pulled up. Just a few seconds of work show so much respect toward genuinely wanting to understand or enjoy a song more. Great job! Also, we're in complete agreement on the Black Parade representing death/the after life. Just all around a great reaction!
If only people would realize that this song is all about being courageous despite facing any tough situations in life.
Too bad it didn't get a Grammy :(
This is what this song has always been for me, pure inspiration. I didn't know that people look at it any other way!
Kanye's song "Runaway" has similar chords to the beginning, i think that may be the song you're thinking of...
G chord enter the chat
G note triggered. What do u call that? Rip off or copycat?
@@jeirkantoni8611 considering the fact that Kanye is the kind of pretentious a hole who would never admit to being influenced by this, I'd call it a dirty, shameless rip-off.
The intro just plays the same note over and over which actually somehow works fairly well but then yeah I guess you could say the piano beat sounds similar but I’d heard both songs at least 30 times and never drew that comparison and while it is beautiful and iconic it’s not that especially complicated and seeing as there are millions and millions of songs out there and the general vibe of the two songs is really nothing close I highly doubt he thought anything to the effect of “Hmm, I think I’m gonna take this MCR piano intro and significantly change it and use it in a completely different way and them purposely not credit them mwahahaha.”
Think you need to react to the whole Black Parade album. There's a reason that album is played by all who grew up with it till now. We're so ecstatic for their reunion🤘🙏✌. Then I believe you should listen to Three Cheers for sweet revenge. Ever though of doing album reactions if you have time? Like once a month type of a thing 😁 really love your reactions as well.
The solitary woman is known as
"Mother War"
It's a concept album so other songs tie into that to create a comprehensive story.
I don't know how you've managed to go your entire life not hearing MCR. They were everywhere. But better late than never! can't wait for the reunion!
The My Chemical Romance Albums have been a staple to alot of fans. It went through some transition but this one song is from a arguably great classic album. The whole album talks about death and war and other things that keep you on your toes. "Cancer" is one of the saddest songs I still cry to. I dont know if "Ghost of you" was on this album. It's been awhile but definitely reccomend that song. This song is I think part of the soilders story. I think that's why they also dressed that way and black parade is a funeral procession. "Mama" if your interested, it a decent listen. "House of Wolves" is my fav for obvious reasons. "Famous Last Words" is on the album with this song. "Helena" is definitely reccomend song if you haven't heard it yet
Ghost of You was on Three Cheers! (:
God I remember this being my first concert back in junior high now I feel so old. Can’t wait for the reunion though
Your so lucky I wish I would have been a fan at that time
No BS....”the Black Parade” is one of my all time favorite albums. Check out the songs “this is how I disappear”, “the sharpest lives”, “I don’t love you”, “ house of wolves”, “disenchanted”, “famous last words”
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song definitely deserves its spot in the rock and roll hall of fame. It is considered one of the top 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. It truly is an anthem and imo a masterpiece. It will be played at my funeral.
Love this song. I always forget it, then hear it, and i’m like... damn... so epic
This was a great song. Not just the lyrics and instruments, but the presentation of it as well. It reminds me a little bit of the cover to the Beetles album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Especially with what they were wearing. Except while the Beetles was at a funeral with it being all colorful and celebrating life MCR was in black and grey to welcome death. Not sure if it was intentional, but if you look at the video compared with the album cover I think you'll see what I'm talking about.
During an interview they said that there's a belief that when you die death comes in a comforting form to each person. The main character of the song remembers being taken to the city with his father to watch a marching band. So his death comes to him in the form a black parade.
Also, Samuel Bauer directed the video, and all of their outfits, plus the city and some of the set pieces were made from concept art that was sketched by Gerard, the lead singer
I love watching people react to this song for the first time! You’re super close! This album and concept was heavily influenced by cancer. Gerard Ways hair is short and bleached to resemble a chemo patient who has lost their hair to their treatment. This song and album keeps coming back into my life. Back in high school I thought I understood it when I was emo-ish bit recently I took on and somehow beat stage 4 cancer. My view of this album has been forever changed and I am eternally grateful to this band for giving us this amazing work of art. I’m glad you dig the song!, check out the song cancer when you get the chance.
Oh, lord, this is gonna be good...
Btw, just subbed a few days ago, been watching for a couple weeks and I appreciate your genuinity lol. That bit you had when you grabbed your Cap and drank with Lil Dicky had me grinning, you know I had to toast with you lol
Nothing like some good ol captain
Rich, you just stumbled upon one of the greatest alternative rock songs ever made. The G-note at the beginning is known to drive fans wild when heard unexpectedly, knowing what’s coming. The whole album, Welcome to the Black Parade, is following “The Patient” who is dying of cancer. And I love the bridge of this song. It is so inspiring, it gets the blood pumping.
I've always seen the "black parade" being a funeral precession. I picture the people all dressed in black, and as a ceremony enshrining the memory of the dead, while those alive carry on living with those memories.
Its more like transition between life and death
I cant believe you never heard MCR before!
Actually, i can believe it, i just wanted to sound outraged because it's funny
Edit: LISTEN TO SLEEP BY MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE
Yes! Sleep is my favorite!
This is how I disappear
Sharpest lives
I'm so stinkin happy that I might actually get a chance to see them live. I'm probably obnoxious to be around. Lol ♡♡
MAMA!!!!!
I always love seeing more people finding the music of My Chemical Romance. I know the music isn't for everyone, but everyone can relate to the emotions of the lyrics. Glad you enjoyed this song. I would highly recommend their break-out song, I'm Not Okay (I Promise). Also, the Famous Last Words video was filmed at the same time as this video, but has a totally different vibe to it. Other songs to check out: Helena, Teenagers, I Don't Love You, and the two-part mini-series of Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na) and Sing (Director's Cut).
Nirvana - Heart-Shaped Box
Nirvana - You Know You're Right
Green Day - Brain Stew/Jaded
Green Day - Hitchin' A Ride
You are correct about the black parade being death, the entire "The Black Parade" concept album is about "the patient's" transition from life to death
Man been waiting so long for this! Takes me back to the good ol' days keep doing your thing 🔥
Yesss yesss yesss!!! I'm so happy you did this reaction! Love them 😍
Next up..
Helena
I'm not okay
Teenagers
The woman is Mother War. The album is all about death. Cancer is a war, and that is a war within oneself to concur, to accept, to say I'm okey with this. Dunno, last part my interpretation.
The g chord heard round the world 🔥
Panic! At the disco--
Say Amen (Saturday Night)
This is Gospel
Emperor's New Clothes
---Watch them In order because it's a trilogy.
Listen to "A place for my head" by Linkin Park. Its is my favorite song of theirs and its not one that was on the radio.
I was so close for this being my first concert back in high school I needed that C+ and damn :/
The Black Parade is Death, it comes from the belief that Death comes to you in the form of a fond memory, the man dying had his fond memory of going to see a parade with his father
This song is widely considered to be "this generation's bohemian rhapsody" and its really true
One of my favorite songs. Thanks for doing this one, Rich.
hi!! 🙋🏽♀️ ive been a HUGE my chem fan since i was in middle school and it makes me SO HAPPY to see people still discover how beautiful and amazing their music is. and i would highly recommend listening to their Black Parade album in its entirety. its amazing and if you like looking into lyric meaning/storytelling. you should totally look up the meaning of the Black Parade album, since the band intended it to be this concept album with a lot themes about life, love, and death. theres an interview they did for MTV way back in 2006 when the album came out where they talk about those kinda themes and the making of the album if you wanna learn more! anyway, loved your reaction!! so glad to see you enjoy this song. and! they just announced their reunion so who knows?! maybe they’ll come out with something new and you’ll be making another video about that soon! 🤗
When he rewinds to replay my favourite part of the whole damn song... dude's so valid
Man... This song used to be my jam when I was a fifth grade kid 😂
Even though now I'm a K-pop trash, MCR will always be the #1 in my life. If you haven't listened to Helena, you should. Their second album (Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge) is my favourite of all time.
There's also a brief flash where the girl in the gasmask is standing next to a sign that reads "Starved to Death in the Land of Plenty."
You hit the nail on the head! That mysterious woman in the gas mask is likely Mother War, who is talked about in the song Mama on the Black Parade album.
This song is one of my all-time favorites and the entire Black Parade album is wonderful (aside from one track). I'd highly recommend checking out the entire album as it is a rock opera about death
The track list of the album is
1. The End.
2. Dead!
3. This is How I Disappear
4. The Sharpest Lives
5. Welcome to the Black Parade
6. I Don't Love You
7. House of Wolves
8. Cancer
9. Mama
10. Sleep
11. Teenagers
12. Disenchanted
13. Famous Last Words
You should definitely react to this whole album it’s undeniably a classic
THIS WAS MY JOINT BACK IN THE DAY! should react to I'm not okay by my chemical romance
The gas mask woman is Mother War, voiced by Liza Minnelli on the track Mama. Fear and Regret are the other 2 female characters. I love the call backs in their vids. The bassist Mikey is the only one wearing a medal as he died in action in the Ghost Of You and we later see Gerard's Parade jacket on a skeleton in the Na Na Na vid :)
I subscribed to you when I watched you react to "Famous Last Words" and instantly turned it up because you instantly loved it. It pumped you up. I loved how you replayed the final last bit of "Welcome to the Black Parade" just because you liked it. AND got chills. We'll make you a MCR stan yet, dude. Welcome to the Black Parade, my fellow killjoy. Better late than never. ♡🖤♡🖤
This, is what UA-cam was made for
This was a concept album about a guy dying of cancer.
I bought tickets to see them at Fireside Bowl in Chicago when they only had one album out. Nobody knew who they were. Had to be real early 2000's.
ah an OG
We got an OG right here
I'm just old. "Old Guy".
dvwegner 😂
One of the great rock anthems of the 2000s. I LOVE this song-I never get tired of this song!
That smile at 3:15 confirms that you are now one of us. Welcome brother 🙂❤
this specific song was about a young patient who unfortunately passed away from cancer and when he was a young boy his father took him to see a marching band and they believed and many many people believe and personally i do too that your strongest and best memories replay when you die and i guess they did their own play on a parade/marching band and i think the “welcome to the black parade” is like a way of saying welcome to death it’s an absolutely amazing and beautiful song with such power in its words truly it’s a piece of art and a lot of people actually mistake this band for emo but in reality it’s just a good rock band i guess its just how they present themselves but if this was the 1980s i almost guarantee they’d be a big name (they already are i’m jus sayin) anyway that’s just my opinion on the song and the group let me know what you think about this song and the controversy of the afterlife have a great day😊
The woman in the gas mask is Mother War. The sign next to her in the video says “starved to death in the land of plenty”. I love your reaction and thoughts on this!
I heard this when I was a kid and finally found my love for rock etc. from only listening to hip hop, rap and rnb, it was until this song came.
Such a song. Some say it was the bohemian rhapsody of emo rock
So excited about MCR. I'm surprised though that everyone seems to only talk about The Black Parade. I really, REALLY loved their Danger Days album, though -- it had a greater number of songs that I loved. Hope you get to hear them one day.
You actually kind of nailed it.
The Black Parade is death, Gerard (singer) believes that death comes and take you in the form of your happiest memory, in this case, the main character'z (called The Patient) happiest memory is when his father took him to the city to see a marching band. The lonely girl, is Mother War (you can hear more of her in the song Mama), the twins are Fear and Regret. The whole album is a concept album; meaning everyone has a name and a story, you should definitely check the whole album out, it's amazing..
Well that took me back!! Thanks doc rich!! Love from the uk brudda!🇬🇧💙👊
You can interpret as the man in the white cloth is listener of the song who was demotivated, broken and down and this band come to him to give him courage and strength and as the song end band gave him medal and leave, so that listener or patient can fight with the world and his demons
Any old school Fall Out Boy is amazing! You should check out Grand Theft Autumn, Dead On Arrival, Chicago Is So Two Years Ago, 7 Minutes In Heaven, The Pros And Cons Of Breathing, Grenade Jumper, etc. their older music is just amazing ❤️🤘🏼
Yo rich you should react to Fall Out Boy sugar we're going down
One of my favorite bands.
Kratoscallofduty but there gotten soft
Nah mate, he should react to Saturday from the dead on arrival album.
The dying man is Lukas Haas who was the little Amish boy in the Harrison Ford movie "Witness"(1984)
I always liked My Chemical Romance but The Black Parade made me fall in love with the band. I still listen to it constantly to this day. That part near end you replayed? That always makes me tear up in a good way.
It's so cool that you're actually paying attention to the lyrics
I suggest that u would do an album reaction to this
This is deserving of Rock and Roll hall of fame. Those who don't understand, this is musically on par with Queen. The theater, the majesty and creativity that lead to the musical power which is undeniable. The concept and the video imagery as well as the undeniable power of the expressive performance.....Come on! This is the pinnacle of the quintessential rock anthem. I don't care if they were kids. I don't give a shit if they hadn't payed dues or not. They nailed it. Give it up! This is what Rock and Roll is capable of!
Finally someone who reacted to the song that understands the song.
That smile when the drop hit🤣🤣🤣that was so me when I first heard this song
I think 2 Chainz "I'm Different" has that similar piano sound at the beginning! I always think of Black Parade when I hear that lol
Some of the songs in this album carry the theme of a young man surviving the war and is now dying of cancer.
My Chemical Romance is fucking back guys...
T H E Y ' R E B A C K
MCRs Black Parade is my number 1 favourite album ever. Every song and word is a master piece. MCR is the Queen of our time with bringing a new style of 'emo' and perfecting it. You are right they did break up the monotony.
This was way before Kanye. So I'm new here but this song actually makes me think of my mom who passed. The meaning behind this song is that when you die you remember your favorite memory as you pass. It's actually a true belief from way back that people believed your most treasured moment comes to you at your moment of death. When people took pictures of their dead loved ones (circa 1800s) they believed they were helping their loved ones move on to the afterlife and if they didn't they would be stuck there in limbo. So this song actually goes through the death process and the light and the dark of the moment. Just a fun fact since this was a reaction video and sometimes it helps to have the meaning or history behind why it was written. :) I love your reaction btw.
This song came out in 2006 so Kanye was around during this time with his albums the college dropout in 2004 and late registration in 2005 though the band has been around since 2001.
100%!! I never noticed the widow before, and I've seen this a million times. Great react 👌
The Kanye song you’re thinking of is “Runaway”
I don’t know what song you were thinking of in the beginning but it goes to a song more broadly referenced both intentionally and unintentionally: Pachebel’s Canon (key of G I think? for Welcome to the Black Parade). Tho when it gets to the section starting “do or die” you can hear it in D being played under everything.
If they have a rap/hiphop fan headbanging to this, thats when you KNOW your good. XD
Welcome To The Black Parade was my introduction to MCR. My uncle's best friend said since he had cancer, and unfortunately passed from it later, he felt a connection to the entire album and got me and my mama into it. I would sit outside and listen to it. I drew him in this music video and placed it on his coffin with a rose before they buried him.
BabyMetal, Road of Resistance, Live in Japan. Just trust me...
The lady that you called the widow is actually mother war, the album is a concept album and you should look more into it
You've got most of it right! The Black Parade is a personal symbol of the Patient's oncoming death. The woman in the gas mask is called "Mother War", a phantom of sorts partly symbolizing the Patient's bad relationship with his mother.
This video shows a lot of imagery representative of the whole album, not just the title track.
I just recently heard MCR, my favorite song so far is Cancer
That's tough one. Still gets me after all these years.
"On the surgeon's table today, we got a new patient!"
No, you have *The Patient.*
*Pretentious hipster laughing.*
Just so you know this song is from a concept album with the same name that follows the lead character, simply known as "The Patient".
3:42 It's called a parade float. I know it's a weird name but that is what it's called. Specifically designed for marching bands.
this is my favorite band. please do more of them
That was so pure.
You nailed it.
The ghost of you is a good one to react to. That one will hit you in the feels.
My chemical romance- I'm not ok, teenagers, helena,
Do we have another member of The MCRmy
That G note do still hit hard 2020... MCR got me through those college years way back!!!
Some have said the song slightly samples Canon in D.
I love this band for many reasons. The lead singer Gerard Way saw the twin towers fall from his front porch across the bay in New Jersey. Even though he had plans with his graphic designs and art, which he is super talented at, he felt a calling to do music. I can relate. That day changed my plans radically. The band with his brother and a few friends came up quickly and then at the height of their success they decided to go do other things. There was no infighting or other problems. They just wanted to experience more. Some might say it was a foolish move but it shows why they were in it in the first place and it takes balls to walk away from fame and fortune. Now they've decided to come back around again. I'm psyched.
Well doc welcome to the black parade that is my chemical romance i do hope you enjoy your time with us
