this was by far the best heavy weight "fight" of all time. Ron & George punched each other out, the energy used coupled with the stress of being hit with some heavy and hard and consistent punches took its toll on Ron....awsome fight.
Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Lyle, Shavers. This was absolutely the Golden Era of Boxing. The only other Era that is close is the Great Middle Weight Era of Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hit Man Hearns, Roberto Duran ( I know I’m missing someone sorry). I was in my early teens for the Heavy Weights, but I was just amazed by these athletes. They were all a man’s man!

Great Larry is 1 of the goats. He is d same generation with some of this legends, less than 10 years difference. He just lived longer & he had skills, probably 1 of the greatest jabs & chins in heavyweight boxing. So dont compare him carelesly with the later heavyweights generation.

Being the end of the round probably saves Foreman from a knockout after he got up. He was dead on his feet and was able to recover his senses between rounds.

Adam B Foreman would've knocked him out in 2nd round but time keeper rang the bell at 2 min instead of 3. Foreman had Lyle in trouble then. Plus Foreman was rusty from too long of a layoff.

With due respect to a resilient George Foreman, Ron Lyle seriously hurt Foreman in the first round. But Foreman clinched to survive the round. And in another round (R4?), Lyle hit Foreman so hard that the latter fell flat on his face, slumped on the canvas. Foreman struggled to get up, but the bell saved Foreman from a certain knockout. One viewer commented hilariously that this fight was not an ordinary fight. It was all hell break loose "pub fight" between the two. True to his stamina and punching power, Foreman managed to survive the scares, and finally managed to knock out Lyle in the later round. This arguably was Foreman's toughest fight, because he suffered multiple knock-downs. The Foreman-Ali fight in Zaire in 1974 is a foregone conclusion.
Your analysis is right, nevertheless Foreman after he lost the match with Alì has not been anymore at the top of his condition. IMHO he suffered the lost from a psicological point of view basically. In fact after some time he retired...Only a few years before Lyle would not arrive at the 2nd round I think.
Forgone conclusion is just your opinion. This fight is crude & entertaining but foreman fight against Ali is one the top scientific & strategic definition examples of the sport.
Ali was like a surgeon, delicate but focused on the target, he took Foreman apart piece by piece, slowly, first mentally then physically. Foreman kept asking himself why is this man's head is still on his shoulders.

A great fight, no doubt. But no! In this fight the boxer could not be saved by the bell in any round. George had to beat the count even after the bell went off.
This was great boxing. Either way, this fight was not going to last much longer, but George's power was just too much for Lyle. To this day, this fight is the best 5 rounds of boxing in history and that goes for any division.

You never saw a fight like this in todays boxing. Hell, we haven’t seen Heavyweights slugging it out like this since Tyson. Fury, Lewis, Wilder, Holyfield, Bowe, AJ, none of them could fight like this. They don’t have the heart to get in there and go balls out. Wilder knocked down Fury 3 times in their fights. The last fight the second time he went down it was more so from a push then anything. Fury is a good punch or two away from being exposed as the fake he is. This was my father's favorite fight of all time. This is the only guy that comes to mind who actually backed Foreman up consistently.

i wish that would be a Foreman vs Ali rematch, Frazier vs Norton, Frazier vs Shavers, Foreman vs Shavers, Holmes vs Foreman, Lyle vs Frazier during that era. That would be fascinating bouts to watch.
The irony was that, only Ali had fought against all the boxers mentioned above.
Foreman vs Holmes in the late 70s would have been a great fight. It’s amazing how Ali never ducked anyone. He was willing to sacrifice his health to be the GOAT.
Which gave rise to a question: if Muhammad Ali never ducked any of these opponents, why those other fights never happened?
@@ramlangoddos4425 Because no promoter would promote these fights. To fight them, you need to find a suitable promoter. If no promoter is there, then how will you fight the other guy?
1. Joe Frazier vs Ken Norton never happened because Frazier and Norton were friends, but Frazier had two trainers and handed one of them, Eddie Futch to Norton. Both wanted a fight, Yank Durham and Joe Frazier in one side, Ken Norton and Eddie Futch at the other side. Joe's trainer, Yank Durham, passed away only two weeks following the second Norton-Ali fight, So Norton's trainer, Eddie Futch, coached Joe after Durham's death and Norton got another trainer, which further took it away. The Frazier-Norton match was intended to see who the better trainer was, Durham vs Futch. So this match never happened.
2. Ali didn't duck anybody but one man, but no promoter would promote most of the dream fights. e.g, Ali offered Sonny Liston a third match in 1967, just before Ali was stripped. But throughout the search, no promoter wanted to promote a third Liston-Ali fight, solely because of Liston's performance in the second match.
3. Ali genuinely admitted he ducked only one man, and he freely did admit that, Ken Norton when Norton was the #1 contender to face Ali for his titles in 1978. When Ali lost to Spinks, he realized he didn't have what it takes anymore and Norton could easily crush him. When Spinks was champion, the WBC stripped him off his title, because he refused to face Norton, but was still WBA and Lineal Champion. Ali thought his fears were over and won against Spinks in a rematch, but then Norton again chased him around the world for a title unification match, the WBC Norton vs WBA, The Ring and Lineal champion Ali. Ali decided to retire instead of facing Norton again.
4. No, Ali didn't duck Foreman. George lost to Jimmy Young while he was the No. 1 contender for Ali's titles. Had he not lost to Young, Foreman would have faced Ali again freely.
This is the fight where George Foreman truly earned the title, "Great Fighter". How he got up from that hellacious knock down at 3:38, not only to avoid being knocked out, but then to actually win this battle, is beyond understanding. This is where great fighters are found, in the dust of the arena, most certainly defeated, but then reaching into themselves to proclaim "No, you WILL NOT beat me. I AM the champion, and I will prove it to you RIGHT NOW". Unbelievable heart shown by George Foreman.

Today the ref would stop the fight if a fighter falls down face first.
Being the end of the round probably saves Foreman from a knockout after he got up. He was dead on his feet and was able to recover his senses between rounds.
@@bradevans5566 Lyle got saved too in roud 2 which lasted 2 minutes only. I think to have a great fight like this you have to have exceptionnal things that happen like round 2

George Foreman seemed pretty rusty after Zaire otherwise he would dominate Ron Lyle without a doubt.
He didn’t gas out he just got too hurt he didn’t throw anything just like the second round when he got hurt. When he got hurt in the second he didn’t throw a lot of punches.

No era can match the 70’s for great heavyweight fights. Boxers really fought instead of dancing around the ring trying not to get hit. Probably more good heavyweights in that era than any other.

This has to be the greatest slugfest of all time. Two genuine class heavyweights. How didnt knock out Foreman I will never know.

It is a truly epic fight that should be talked about more. Evenly matched sluggers with skill. Foreman just had a bit more stamina and that granite chin.

Adam B Foreman would've knocked him out in 2nd round but time keeper rang the bell at 2 min instead of 3. Foreman had Lyle in trouble then. Plus Foreman was rusty from too long of a layoff.

What a great fight the best ever
With due respect to a resilient George Foreman, Ron Lyle seriously hurt Foreman in the first round. But Foreman clinched to survive the round. And in another round (R4?), Lyle hit Foreman so hard that the latter fell flat on his face, slumped on the canvas. Foreman struggled to get up, but the bell saved Foreman from a certain knockout. One viewer commented hilariously that this fight was not an ordinary fight. It was all hell break loose "pub fight" between the two. True to his stamina and punching power, Foreman managed to survive the scares, and finally managed to knock out Lyle in the later round.
This arguably was Foreman's toughest fight, because he suffered multiple knock-downs. The Foreman-Ali fight in Zaire in 1974 is a foregone conclusion.
Your analysis is right, nevertheless Foreman after he lost the match with Alì has not been anymore at the top of his condition. IMHO he suffered the lost from a psicological point of view basically. In fact after some time he retired...Only a few years before Lyle would not arrive at the 2nd round I think.

This fight is crude & entertaining but foreman fight against Ali is one the top scientific & strategic definition examples of the sport.
Ali was like a surgeon, delicate but focused on the target, he took Foreman apart piece by piece, slowly, first mentally then physically. Foreman kept asking himself why is this man's head is still on his shoulders.
@@annaschmidt853 in my opinion at their prime Alì and Joe Freizer were almost equivalent (with different chatacteristics) but Freizer played with Foreman an offensive match and was destroyed in a few rounds, Alì gave value to his defensive genius and with class and intelligence prevailed.
A great fight, no doubt. But no! In this fight the boxer could not be saved by the bell in any round. George had to beat the count even after the bell went off.
This was great boxing. Either way, this fight was not going to last much longer, but George's power was just too much for Lyle. To this day, this fight is the best 5 rounds of boxing in history and that goes for any division.

You never saw a fight like this in todays boxing. Hell, we haven’t seen Heavyweights slugging it out like this since Tyson. Fury, Lewis, Wilder, Holyfield, Bowe, AJ, none of them could fight like this. They don’t have the heart to get in there and go balls out. Wilder knocked down Fury 3 times in their fights. The last fight the second time he went down it was more so from a push then anything. Fury is a good punch or two away from being exposed as the fake he is. And to think Ali beat these two guys rather easy ! RIP champ. You are sorely missed.

Foreman may not have been nothing more than a rediculous heavy arm punching fool with little boxing ability but I tell ya what, that guy could take a punch like no other. I don't recall Big George ever being knocked down in his 2nd return to boxing in the late 80's through the 90's. Am I wrong? Does anyone recall him ever going down in that time frame? Guts man, pure guts.
Rob Hamilton I used to think Foreman was just a slugger with unreal power.. Boy was I wrong. He had all kinds of techniques. His trainers were the best, Archie Moore for one. Hand traps, extended jab, walking hook. I think your going to be surprised.
