      @DD_Dietriech День тому

      Ha ha ha ha ha no @@fluffy1931. It's called the "fog of war," because you rarely know where anything is at. Trying to find the enemy is like finding your mailbox in a dense fog. You don't know where it's at until you stumble up on it.
      In base you rarely know the exact locations of patrols. Just what grid square they are close to or within and that's why it's called "danger close." They're firing up on your grid square and may land on you or land 50 yards away. It is all foggy until it happens and gets cleared up.

      Yep this is very accurate. As a junior enlisted person you don’t really need to think because honestly what does an 18-22 year old know about anything anyway? Once you become an NCO you’re then expected to start using the experience of following and translating that to leading a small group of your own. And as you get promoted the group you lead gets larger and larger. Conversely an officer even a lowly 0-1 is expected to lead even though most expect the senior NCO to tell this Lt exactly what to say and when to say it.

      @@vincentgoupil180 Your comment is just plain stupid. First off the tired "they break you down to build you up". Yes, thank you, we all know this and it's not relevant to the scene at all. Especially with the "they want you to be a mindless drone like in a cult". You do a lot of talking about the military for someone who's clearly never been there and only lives off of memes.
      The entire point to the scene, and what I'm referring to, is twofold. Gump lives a charmed, fairy-tale life, where he's constantly falling back asswards into success and this is just another instance of that where his natural traits make him successful at a thing.
      But the other more relevant one is that Full Metal Jacket was only a few years older than this. A movie where a mentally challenged guy is ruthlessly and cruelly bullied until he snaps and kills himself and the instructor. In this movie we have a mentally challenged guy go to basic, and the audience is like "oh no, this is Pyle all over again" only for him to receive endless praise from the DSgt. It's a lighthearted twist on what we would expect.
      "do guy really think Gump is a genius, that's not what this movie is about". Are you so dense you think this is some kind of surprise?
