0:27 Tyson is well known for his punching power but in a way it did him a dis-service because his other skills are hardly ever mentioned. He had other weapons and one of them was his dodging ability and the other was his mental game and right around 27 seconds in this video we get a perfect glimpse at both of these talents. He would throw his opponents off psychologically and intimidate them giving him an advantage before he even threw a punch. At the 27 mark in this video he is not just dodging he is clowning around to show his opponent that he is not quick enough to hit him. I have also seen fights where he practically lowers his head to the ground, which violates the rules
(Ducking too low; your head goes below your opponent’s belt line) and for some reason he did not get called out on it often, I think he really instilled helplessness in his opponents with these tactics and that is when his punching power came into play.
" You cannot hit me but I am going to knock your teeth into the back of your head."
He was not just a powerful fighter, he was a smart fighter and I think most of his opponents did not realize this, until they got punched in the mouth.

When did he show any dodging ability? Any time he fought an opponent that was in ANY way at the top of his game, he didn't just lose...but got beat so badly that he looked like a lost child had wandered into the ring.
Please tell me you don't consider pretty much ANY of his 80s fights legit. They were the very epitome of Rocky III style set ups. All has beens and never wases. All while ducking Holyfield for TWO YEARS after he became the #1 contender. And then doing the same with Lewis after he regained his title in the 90s.

Tyson will be remembered as the best heavyweight since Muhammad Ali and for me he’s the number 2 of all time. I am not convinced Ali could handle his aggression but if Tyson says Ali is number 1 then I gladly give a close 2 to Tyson he was simply incredible and a huge demonstration of the power of a peak athlete and what happens when it slips away. Cus D’Amato created a boxer plucked off the rough streets of Brooklyn that will be talked about for years. I will always remember the training video where Cus says to him (about his shadow boxing) ‘it’s good, but it’s not perfect’. Underrated trainer. Found his gem a little too late in the day.
