    This is for all the parents who transport their children via taxi, car service or ride share where you don't want to haul your car seat along with you.
    In big cities like New York and Singapore, this is how parents get around.
    We've heard from a couple of parents about some unsafe practices they engage in, some were even advised by their doctor. One of the dangerous things parents do is put their child in their lap and buckle the seat belt on top of both of them.
    The Ride Safer Travel Vest (vest shown is a previous model) is convenient, easy to use and meets or exceeds all federal safety crash test standards! For additional information on the Ride Safer Travel Vest, safety ratings and specifications, pricing and order info visit: shop.saferide4... or ridesafertrave...

    That first scenario gave me so much anxiety when you said the amount of force the little guy would have to absorb 😭😩

    Thank you. This is very informative. We book Uber once in a while when my husband uses our car for work and I'm guilty of putting my toddler on my lap and buckle up. 😲😲😲
    Good thing I saw this video. Thanks! God bless you.

    Where I live in the UK, it says in the Highway Code that children under the age of 3 can actually travel UNRESTRAINED in the back of taxis or minicabs!

      In many places taxis are exempt from car seat laws, but that doesn't mean taxis don't crash. Parent should always use proper child restraints in taxis.

    I'm in Canada, we don't have ride safe vests here... I need to lug around full sized convertible seats when we travel anywhere as I myself don't drive & we take taxis almost daily

      We applaud you for using child restraints when using taxis especially since our understanding is that taxis are exempt from child restraint requirements in Canada, like many places in the US. (www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/choose-car-seat-faq.shtml) Other parents Canada have let us know since taxis are exempt they use a RideSafer for a convenient way to keep their child safe in a taxi. If it's an option you want to look into, you may want to confirm that for your local province though. Some states in the US have different laws so it may be the same in Canada.

      @Kimberly Symonds I have an 8 month old and I'm in the same predicament. I've been searching for a "portable toddler car seat" with little luck. It's bringing me great anxiety knowing in 4-6 months my little one will be outgrowing his infant car seat and I'll be having to figure something out to solve the problem of no car seat in the uber/taxi. Wish they provided more options of foldable or attachable toddler car seats.

    Can this work without the shoulder strap and just the tether?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  Рік тому +1

      The RideSafer vest can be used in with lap-only seat belt and tether, with a lap-only seat belt the tether is required to provide the upper body restraint.

    Back in the 60 s/70s....no seat belts required....thank heavens! We had 5 children, I looked after 3.... 5 of the children were age 3 and under. If I would have had to strap all those kids in, I would have been a HERMIT!! We did buy a large '74 station wagon that seated 8...but we still didn't need the belts. The service manager where we bought the wagon had a brother who died, being trapped in his seatbelt....so he hated them. He told us we had wasted thousands of dollars for 8 seat belts. I really like the vest you have on Brody....as stated, in Canada, we don't have anything like that. My main concern is the belt scraping their neck....actually, it scrapes MY neck....as a driver or passenger. They should come up with a belt that's connected lower to the car...they're all way too high

    Is this recommended for a year older?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  3 роки тому +1

      A year older than? Do you mean a one-year-old? A 1-year-old should be in a rear-facing car seat. So an rear-facing infant carrier car seat without the base would be a convenient solution for taxi rides or ride sharing with a 1-year-old.

    My baby is 18 months old how can I travel in a rental car?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  4 роки тому +1

      Hello. Really they only way to safely transport a child who is too young/too small for a RideSafer is to use a conventional 5 point harness car seat. You have a choice to travel with your seat you use at home or to rent one from the rental car company at your destination but that has it's own concerns as well that you can read about here: saferide4kids.com/blog/why-you-should-pass-on-the-rental-car-seat/. There is a 3rd option which, if you have enough adults, someone could use your rental car at the destination to go purchase a new seat (you can get a safe yet affordable seat at most "big box" stores) and then return to pick up the rest of the family at the rental company. The most affordable and least hassle option would be to bring your car seat with you or purchase a low cost and low weight convertible seat to travel with.

    I don’t have a own car and travel by taxi. Which car seat can I buy then

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  Місяць тому

      A WayB Pico (wayb.sjv.io/mgj9Da) would be a good foldable, portable seat for forward facing. Not sure what state you are in and if 1) your state requires rear-facing until age 2 or 2) your state car seat law exempts taxis. For safety you should still use a car seat even if taxis are exempt. saferide4kids.com/car-seat-laws-by-state/

      @@mjmtw We're not super familiar with seats available in the UK. Based on our understanding of UK law: Children can ride in the rear seat of a taxi without a restraint - or wearing an adult seat belt if they are 3 or older - if the driver doesn’t provide an appropriate seat. (saferide4kids.com/car-seat-laws-by-state/) We suggest you always use a proper child restraint for children in taxis.

    If you were to get pulled over is the restraint considered legal?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  5 років тому +1

      Hello! YES indeed! The RideSafer is a certified Child Restraint System here in the USA. Even if the officer is not familiar with it you can point out the label on the vest that states "This product meets or exceeds all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards" (FMVSS-213)

    Hi, My son is 28 month old and his height is 3ft 1 inch (37inch) and weight is 31 pounds. Is it okay to use this occasionally in a taxi or while riding in a someone else's car in situations when it's not practical to carry around your convertible car seat?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  6 років тому +1

      While it would likely fit, it would be using it outside the manufacturer's specifications and technically would not be legal and would remove liability from the manufacturer. And... if the choice was between using the RideSafer outside the manufacturer's age specs (Safe Ride 4 Kids is not the manufacturer) ( btw there is nothing magical that happens on the 3rd birthday except the child is now within Mfg specs) and not using a restrain at all... the child would most likely be safer using the product but it is a parental choice.

    What is the strap hooked to on the back of the seat?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  6 років тому +1

      Since 2001 all vehicles sold in the USA (and before that some other parts of the world) have been required to have a "Tether Anchor Point" installed for the purpose of "tethering" forward facing car seats. The RideSafer Tether strap is anchored to the vehicle's Tether Anchor Point.

    If I am looking at this correctly, there is a connector for the crotch strap. How come that was not used?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  7 років тому +4

      The crotch strap is optional piece to help hold the back of the vest down instead of riding up. We don't use it for our children. They don't like it and we taught them to hook the back with their thumbs to pull down the back if it does ride up.

      Safe Ride 4 Kids What don't they like? I am wondering because I want to see if I can make it more comfortable for my little ones. And what about it riding up right before a crash; wouldn't that make attempting to pull it down unsafe?

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  6 років тому +3

      In our experience even when it rides up the seat belt is still correctly positioned on the child so in the event of a crash the seat belt will still be doing its job. Keeping it from riding up is really more of a comfort than a safety concern. Our kids never found the crotch strap comfortable or the vest riding up uncomfortable enough to warrant the need for the crotch strap.

    • @Saferide4kids
      @Saferide4kids  6 років тому +4

      The safest option for an 2-year-old is to use a rear-facing car seat. We realize while traveling this can be very inconvenient. If this is the option you choose, there are very inexpensive lightweight convertible seats that make travel easier. This is what we did when our children required rear-facing while traveling. We bought an inexpensive lightweight seat for travel and left our nice one in our car at home ready for our return.

      Safe Ride 4 Kids what one do you recommend? Most car seats are so heavy.

    • @jessical7083
      @jessical7083 5 років тому

      But we can't always bring car seats around for the 2 year old in a taxi.
      Plus we need one hand free to hold the two year old and it's impractical to be carrying a toddler seat while shopping. I'd have no hands to spare!
      I like that you said a toddler in own car seat with own car belt is safer than toddler on our laps. But what about using clips to hold the seat belt on their thighs and collar bone? Is that safe or dangerous?
