    Jason I have referred to your video at least 2 dozen times...funny if you don't use these cameras constantly (I'm just a hobbiest photographer) you forget..if you are starting from zero these cameras can be a challenge..You have done the best job of showing how work the memory or quick function keys. When I started I had missed the dial control features and the relationship to the function keys. You and Tony Northrup are my favourites for how to tutorials...thanks a lot and continued success....

    Thank you Jason for an excellent tutorial. I just received my A7iii yesterday afternoon and the batteries are all charged up this morning so I’m ready to rock n’ roll. I’ve watched this twice so far, and will now do an in depth “watch and stop” to get my settings done correctly. Really really really appreciate you taking the time to do this! You’re awesome!

      Jason Vong 2 Quick Questions:
      1. It's been known that older Sony cameras had problems with noise in the shadows when using S-Log. How does the A7III deal with this, since overall it is better in low light?
      2. What about HLG? I personally switch between S-Log in bight outdoors and Cine4 indoors. Can HLG be a good middle ground between these two?

    • @JasonVong
      @JasonVong  6 років тому

      1. Did you overexpose by 2 stops? Sometimes you need to expose more to the right to avoid the noise in the shadow. Just have to gauge the highlight and make sure that's not blown out.
      2. I still have to mess with HLG a bit! Will make a followup video

    • @ToastedSynapseGaming
      @ToastedSynapseGaming 6 років тому

      Jason Vong thanks for the reply. Yeah, ETTR, I was just asking if you can get away with more on the A7III than with other cameras. Looking forward to those follow up vids. Excellent work as usual

This video has helped me tremendously and it is really one of its kind on UA-cam right now. I hope Sony recognizes your effort and rewards you properly. Your videos on the Sony mirrorless system is some of the best on UA-cam. Keep it up!!! Thanks again!!!

    Jason... "THANK YOU SO MUCH" for this video. As a hobby camera shooter, I found your video very useful. I just bought a Sony A7R3, and the setup has so many features, that sometimes I was getting confused. You took your time explaining as you went along in the setup process that you made it very easy for shooters like me to understand what each feature meant. Yes, it was long, but I watched from beginning to end. Yes it was long but for me it was a "MUST WATCH" video. You are the best. Keep these videos coming, because it does help people like me to make shooting with a professional camera body so much easier to use. Again thanks.

    Jason Vong, you made a mistake sir! :D I GOT YOU!. Where you said you program "AF-ON" for those who like to focus that way. The correct choice is "AF on" not "Focus standard." Focus standard basically reset the focus point position. AF on will lock focus on AF point. I just got the camera today and been testing stuff ;)

    Great vid Jason. I just wanted to say regarding switching to crop mod you should mention that the extra reach comes with a price. Losing a chunk of your sensor cuts you down from 24mp to near 10.2 megapixels so users need to take that into consideration. Obviously not a problem with a RIII or RII because they drop to just 19ish I believe (I own a crappy old A7 II so I’m not familiar with the R’s cropped megapixel). I occasionally use it shooting gymnastics but if someone’s going to blow up a shot they definitely won’t like that resolution loss. Thanks and keep up the great work. Glad the potato crew is back now.

    Quick question. When I switch to manual mode do you know why the screen looks so dark? My room isn't super bright, but I can definitely tell the difference from manual to S mode. Huge brightness difference. Also what is the difference between S mode and M mode?
