How to stop battery charge at 80% on Hp. Omen doesn't have that option. What should I do then?
Hi guys I have nvidia geforce 940m card on my laptop
I tried to update the driver using nvidia app
I installed the latest update issued on 5th December but the install process was unable to complete
Two statements appeard
The driver isn't compatible with this windows version ( my windows version is 10 22h2 latest November update )
The second statement : the driver isn't compatible with graphic hardware
Can you give me a solution ?
Optimus suggestion wasn't explained very well in this video. Which option should we select for Advanced Optimus?
@@JayKumar-fo1ns My lenovo laptop has the conservation mode on lenovo vantage to limit the charging to certain percentage, but my hp victus doesnt have the same feature, i've asking people on discord and they said that hp using trickle charging or something that stop the charging when the battery full. idk if it's safe to always has the battery at 100%

Jarrod has single handedly turned me into a laptop nerd. I didn’t even know what an RTX 4090 was until watching his videos a month ago. I also used to be an Xbox guy but am now a laptop gamer (Acer Predator Neo 16)
Did you at some point consider getting a Desktop PC instead of a Laptop? Since you used to play on Xbox, I am assuming you don't need the portability of a laptop.
@ once in a while I need portability but not often
I think that going from console to gaming laptop is a solid transition. You get to game on the pc environment, without the hassle of building your own stuff
Its the trend pal. Laptops can be workstations (like desktops), ready made and mobile. Its sneakily a new category of computing it seems
@ yeah I think these massive PC rigs are a thing of the past. Why go through so much hassle when a laptop in 2024 is the same thing but smaller and more affordable
I've been using my acer nitro 5 for almost 6 years now, and had never upgraded the ram or storage, because I couldn't earn enough for it. But I was able to at least clean it and take care of it properly, and has never gotten into any hardware problem. Really helpful tips as well from Jarrod 👍.
Those nitros are bankable laptops mate
wow 6 years is a lot for a gaming laptop
I've also had an ACER NITRO 5 for the past 7 years and I recently upgraded it's RAM. Thankfully it's still alive and kicking 😄
@@mudi_merrey im planning to buy a nitro V, is it worth it?
I upgraded mine too early 8gb ram is just not enough I upgraded to 32gb and now noticeably made my laptop run smoothly
the most relevant gaming laptop channel is spot on, as always!
i use many of these and learned so much from you.
(and jarrod goes for near maximum tightness confirmed)
I use a short laptop stand, I can’t go back to my laptop being flat Ever again. That made a lot of difference and plus it’s so cute.
Regarding the colour calibration thingy. You can usually rent one from a local photography gear rental shop or have them calibrate it for you. That last one might get you laughed at by the old hats though.
That's a good idea
"An upgrade should be done after 5-6 years even more" there's no hurry
... in some UA-cam videos, you have to rise the playback-speed to 1.5 x or even to 2.0 x as the talking speed is soooo slow, you would fall asleep. Well, this is not the case 🙂🙂🙂 Jarrod is definitely NOT wasting anybody's time here, this is not a "before-going-to-bed" channel.
Used several of your videos to help me buy my new laptop this week. Thank you for all the great information.
PSA on Advanced Optimus: to enable it, you must use "Automatic Select" option, and not "Optimus". "Optimus" is what it is, a regular Optimus, not Advanced one, signal still goes through iGPU first, before being sent to dGPU.
I know it's not clear and Nvidia could make it more obvious, but it is what it is.
I subscribed you since 2018 Love you, bro I'm from Egypt and I can guarantee you are the best one who make test and full reviews for laptops
Thanks!
For tip 27; limiting the Max FPS is also quite good when it comes to boosting your 1% lows in most games because instead of the gpu and cpu maxing out itself to give the most fps possible, limiting the FPS leaves some performance which can increase 1% lows in most cases.
And lastly, when gaming on your LAPTOP make sure you also turn on high performance power profile from control panel be sure to turn it off when you are done gaming because of battery life.
These tips will come in handy for most gaming laptop especially the ones with a mid range gpu paired with a high end cpu. Like a 4060 paired with 13900H💀
00:34 .. you are great man :)
nah that what i wanna do, put a 25 inch long screw in 14 inch long hole. you know what i mean
Cringe
Been following tip 21 for a awhile now, i currently own a msi gl63, 16gb of ram, i7 9th gen and a gtx 1660ti, that I've own for going on 7 years. Its treated me right for years but now im actually looking at the Lenovo legion 7 rtx 4070, so i thank that will be a substantial upgrade to last me another 7 years hopefully lol.
0:33 An angry apple repair technician once said, "Don't long screw the short hole"
Watching this on my 2018 Dell G5 while waiting for my Legion Pro 7i Gen 9 to arrive. I picked up the 4090 model and added an extra 1TB of storage. So keen for it.
Should have waited for RTX 50 series laptops
This was useful. Thanks!
I've never played a game, but still find myself watching this channel for handy tips 👍
Setting RGB to red is genuinely beneficial and not just a joke. Because red has the longest wavelength of all colours, it is the least straining on the eyes. Even though my laptop of capable of full rainbow RGB, I always just have it set to red for this reason.
Great video, but wanted to comment on Tip 45 8:45, don't use thermal paste on a laptop, especially electrically conductive ones, laptop circuits aren't as protected as desktop motherboards, AND NEVER USE LIQUID METAL UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR YOUR LAPTOP MANUFACTURER HAS LIQUID METAL SAFETY BORDERS INSTALLED on the cpu/gpu die. i had noctua nt h2 pasted on my rtx 3060 ryzen 7 5800H Omen 15(2021 version) the performance was good. not excellent but better than stock paste, but 3 months later it pumped out *thank god it wasn't electrically conductive otherwise my laptop would be a goner* but most pastes are like that. they weren't made for laptops but for Desktops with lower temp densities. even liquid metal isn't good for laptops as most laptop don't support it and might get fried if it spills and the effect of liquid metal lasts only 2 months before crumbling or cracking inside the laptop making you replace it in less than 60 days. also many have witnessed the case of cpu die corrossion due to liquid metal. conclusion Liquid metal is a big no no, doesn't last long, risk of frying your laptop, short time amazing performance. then do what i did, get the honeywell ptm 7950. the most amazing purchase i made was Honeywell PTM 7950. so much that i thought it was too good to exist. this has thermal performance toe to toe with liquid metal, yet due to it being a pad it lasts 1- 3 years. for someone like me who doesn't like getting into my laptop too much it's a bliss and the performance doesn't degrade whatsoever for 3 years at all instead it gets better as it goes through phase change cycles. i researched a bit more and found out lenovo legion uses their own version of honeywell ptm 7950 that's why they have such good temps for such a long time. sorry if i am ranting for a bit i just wanted people to know thermal paste and liquid metal isn't the way to go. not for laptops but Thermal pads like honeywell ptm 7950 are. the only problem is they are many fake ptm 7950 due to it's popularity, but you can get the real ones from linustechtip website or like i got mine from amazon i just went from salemtechspert's affliate link. which had the real ptm 7950 too.
i hope Jarrod could pin this comment so more people would know about this :D
Well if you are wondering the difference in performance i got i will say my cpu temps only
Noctua nt h2: 102 C under full load in cinebench r23(5900 RPM fan speed max and thermal paste is 4 months old since applied, test before i removed it a year ago)
Honeywell ptm 7950: 87 C under full load in cinebench r23 (5900 RPM fan speed max and the phase change thermal pad is a year old since applied)
Bought myself a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i (4080). Thanks to you!
I got a Victus laptop in a trade for a hobby grade R/C and have been surprised how well games run on it thanks for the info i will be applying these recommendations to my laptop.
I have extra tips, if you play esport , flight sim, management/tycoon games like cities skylines , any games with intensive physics like teardown, basically any cpu hog games consider cpu first before gpu
Could you please make an undervolting guide video... Love this content ... ❤
I was in the market for a new laptop. I had a cheap laptop from 2020 and a desktop at home, but I travel between the US and Europe enough that I decided to get a high end laptop. I did a little research on the chassis I wanted, then the YT algorithm showed me a post promoting JT's website. I ended up getting a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 (Ryzen 9 7945HX | RTX 4090) for a great price since I found out that Lenovo really likes putting their Legion stuff on BIG discounts regardless of specs. So, it was only a matter of time before I got mine, and it's been fantastic. I look forward to the day when I can build a custom tower again, but this will do perfectly for now and hopefully the next 5-10 years. Thanks for the website, Jarrod.
Excellent list of tips, thank you Jarrod!
Great guidance summarizing everything!
Hey man, I've been a long time lurker and have enjoyed your content a lot and of course learned a lot as well.
Last week I upgraded to an asus rog strix (4070) from daily checking your website, after 5 years of having an HP Pavilion gaming which is still kicking but can't keep up with games because of the 1650. And it just feels ominous to be able to play most if not all games on the highest settings with max resolution. Looking to get into undervolting since it does get quite hot when pumping those high FPS.
Just want to thank you man.
4:27 thank you!
Would be interested if gaming laptops started using LiFePo cells. Though capacity is lower, the charge and discharge rate is much higher (which can allow full-speed on lower power chargers), and cycle life is an order of magnitude better.
I bought the ASUS TUF A15, FA507NV - LP 117W, with Ryzen 5-7535HS, RTX4060,16GB DDR5 4800. $900. I am so happy. Thanks to your laptop buying guide and i watch alot of your videos. And i chosed what is best for me at the time. Because i had budget limit.
Whats the screen brightness and how does the cpu compare to i7 13th gen i bought almost the same specs for like $1200 man
@sagarpratapsingh9428 as you know, it is srgb 100%, and if you dont look at the numbers on paper(sometimes they are just nums), the screen brightness is very good. I sit in broad day light and i do play games a lot. This is perfect for me. Ryzen Cpu is more affordable and better multicore performance.
@@rangeralexaungkyawmin2789 i got 100% srgb too but with 250 nits brightness and yes intel cpu whats ur brightness

Love your content 😇
The tips are very good. Especially that clevo part. That got me laughing but this is fire. I've got a decent gaming laptop too and watching important tips increases my knowledge so thank you.
Last tip is too real. Now I'm here with my 17 inch Laptop and Coil Whine.
Before using a new laptop, don't connect to the internet & immediately make a system recovery image then store it in an external hard drive.
Debloat your OS. If you mess it up, restore your laptop's state to when you first used it (if that's when you made the image) using your system image recovery.
When running on battery power, beware that bright colors drain more battery, especially on OLED screens.
Play in cool areas.
If your laptop supports HDD & are using SSD, make your browser store it's temp files & all your downloads in the HDD to save SSD write cycles.
Don't even debloat, just install a fresh system.

Found your channel recently, I am in the "Comparing laptops" stage of pre purchase and it's painful, will probably end up with a Lenovo though.
Thanks for all the content, it's been very helpful!
lenovo's are rlly solid rn, get a legion if youve got a lot of money and LOQ if youre short
@Thormey2007 I was looking at the LOQ with 4070, seems like a tremendous deal.
Best time to buy for me was grand opening of a microcenter. Got my 1st choice with $800 discount. 😍

tip 15, finding laptop with usb 4 or thunderbolt is relatively hard to find in the budget segment. for people planning to use eGPU, need to do your research extensively.
As someone who will be getting his first gaming laptop or just laptop, your Chanel is incredibly helpful, coming from console, i would just insert the disc and that's it, but now i feel like a boomer lol am 26, but now am getting my head around stuff really well and all thanks for your Yo channel !!!🎉❤️

Thank you 🙏🏻
Tip number 11 is my favorite one
Great tips. A bit much at once. A longer video the 40+ crowd? 😉
thanks jarrod
0:33 bruh😂😂💀

7:17 Tip 38 not agree on this one. I'm happy to have choose the RTX 4080, on a MSI Titan GT77
Consider Indiana Jones runs barely at 60 fps on 1080p External TV with all maxed out ( not supreme ) , just shadow medium and Texture pool very high, no frame Generation, with full RT Path on. You are definitively happy to have the RTX 4080. To Me Finally able to play all my favorite games at 1080P Without worries at 60 fps. Thank you for all other tips and Happy New Year Jarrod !
Jarrod edging the screws to 90% is crazy.
I'll keep in mind for the tip 4 😂thanks jarold
Hi jarrod quick question, i bought a tuf a14 yesterday but when i opened the box laptop didn't have any stickers(neither of nvidia and amd) but i checked the box and laptop's serial number and tested the cpu and gpu and everything seems perfectly fine, any thoughts or recommendations why are these missing?
Jarrod is loving legion and so do I, planning to get an upgrade from my 2020's Legion 5, it's been bluescreening lately
I still use legion y520 with 1050ti
This year left no chance cause minimal wage mean bills and food budget is forever
And other issues
Ill wait for 2027 to do a 10 year upgrade gap
I still using using the same paptop and running fine, if you suffer weird bluescreen try removing actual virus (not false positive ones like cracked apps) if its present, backup your data with external storage or cloud, and reinstall
You can also uninstal Nvidia audio driver for additional fps boost.
Please! Make a video about best laptops to work generating images with artificial intelligence like stable diffusion, to play shooters and content creation
Hey great tips but in tip 6 you should just invest in a stand it's cheap anyways and keeps the laptop at eye level.
The main problem is using something like charger or anything just bends your laptop from the bottom and your fan can get stuck as the panel touches it this worsens the situation. (As I kept a box under the laptop it got damaged)
A stand is way better go for it
faster than lighting itself
It’s actually called “faster than lightning itself”
@@Testimony201 erm actually
I couldn't remember most of them but I did recall to change the RGB to red...huge increase in performance, thanks Jarrod!
...but seriously, great list!

applause for the thumbnail! 👏
Tip only for Ryzen users. Limit your processor's GHZ to avoid temperature increases, between 3.8 and 4.4 :)
This may be a bit of an outlier but wanted to mention:
Consider GPU first then CPU yes, BUT definitely think long and hard about CPU if:
- You play competitive shooters. Your GPU might push 100+ FPS in whatever multiplayer FPS comes out in 5 years but it's going to be unbelievably hard to aim if your CPU can't keep up. Doubly so if you're also in a discord call at the same time.
Learned this from having to cap Apex at 90FPS even though I could push 100, and Halo Infinite at 60 even though I could push 70-90 on an i5 7300HQ/1050ti laptop. Sometimes you're fine dropping settings but your CPU just won't keep up.
- You wanna play anything emulated since those need waaaaay more CPU power than GPU.
RPCS3 on a 4c/4t is a PITA for anything that came out after 2008
I killed 2 birds with one stone by considering both
Ive 5800h and 3070m and i get cpu limited in some games lol
Hp omen 16 is great. Lasted me 2 years so far. And runs everything smoothly
Another tip: if you have an older model you could theorheticaly replace the motherboard for better cpu and gpu. If the company kept reusing the chassis for years you even have newer options available, but even upgrading from a 50 to 70 in the same gen could be just enough for you
Interesting
@DavidNgo86 just make sure that the different models don't use different cooling systems and only buy in a marketplace that accepts returns.
32GB is the new standard for gaming laptop today. You can live with 16GB sure but 32GB will enable you to do more things while gaming.
Ok, then few more from me . Make virtual drive to move all shader cache . Use Afgterburner only to set constant voltage to overdrive dynamic boost with nvidia-smi lock frequenies , use Thrlottlestop to override cpus to get control on gpu becuese power limit on package,. But you are still ok as a selsman
I would say that ports like an sd card reader matter less because you can buy a dongle for cheap. For ethernet you could argue it gives lower latency when on the laptop
Good to know I do all these things already lol. Still rocking my asus 1660 ti laptop

Here 4 tips that always is a must
The first tip no less then 8gb of vram and 16gb ram
Tip 2 no less then 8 cores
Tip 3 avoid weak cheap thermals
Tip 4 is 1TB ssd is a must no less cause 120gb will go to half OS half softwares alone
Tip 5, mux and vrr (usually gsync) should be must have

6:40 Tip of the Year.
Yeah, no bullshit, just simple true stuff, and jump from zero knowledge to enthusiast in only 10 min for most people. Best video for anyone before buying new laptop
On tip 23 (4:12), it is said to have Optimus turned On for better performance, but the graph shown says Optimus On gives you less frames per second. What am I missing?
Turning Optimus to Nvidia only will improve performance... having it set to use both graphics cards will lower performance, but make the battery life better.
Advanced optimus switches between optimus on and off as needed without having to restart.
9:23 overclock but also undervolt it. More performance, lower temps. Best from both worlds. Or if you really want lower temps just undervolt straight away and get like 5-10% less fps but 10c less temps
If you could, you should make video about undervolting. It'll help tons of people here.
I disagree with always let Windows get up to date version, because Windows update tends to break something, so if it dont break dont fix it 😂 same thing applied to driver too.
surprised christmas wasnt another day to get a lap top
Also how easy it is to repair. Absolute must these days. The 20 series laptops were a nightmare. Absolutely horrible to repair. Speciall Acer laptops with 20 series cards.
Tip 51: Always use cover case for laptop before throwing it into sag.
2:00 number one tip which most of these channel viewers can follow
I use "tactical" backpacks that have a spot for a water bladder and the laptop fits into it great.
Hi Jarrod,
I have one of those laptop cooling stands, and mind you, not the “snake oil” ones. It is airtight around the sides and pushes air through the intakes, and seems to help my laptop cool down during high graphic gaming. This is really helpful as I use a Legion 5i Pro with the i9 and 4070. The cooling stand has filters to prevent dust from entering the intake. Do you think it is helpful by any chance? It seems to cool the laptop down by a few degrees but I haven’t seen any major performance changes. In conclusion, do you think it is safe to be using gpu and cpu over clock? Thanks
What about tips for gaming desktop build?
6:45 you got me
Use a keyboard imprint protector. Esp when travelling
8:20 only at 1440p or higher. If you go for 1080p, cpu is slighly more important, especially if you want to use upscaling too as on these small screens it still looks good.
My 5800H actually mananges in some games i play to bottleneck my 3070m so really dont forget about your cpu. But ofc anything more than 8c is useless for gaming so ipc and cache is most important factor for gaming.
I just wanted to know is the Asus tuf a16 good or mid range?
Rather than overclocking, try undervolting.
Agree, undervolting is the one that actually usefull on laptop , i remember suffering major overheating and throttling on my old gtx 1050 2gb laptop because the cpu overheat like crazy, without massive cpu undervolt the laptop is basically unusable for gaming ,worst of all i have zero knowledge about thermal paste at that time until the last time i bring it to repair shop
Just a clarification question on the battery and charger
1. Should I just always plug in the charger regardless if I am using it or not (shut down)?
2. Should I enable the battery limiter then when it reaches the limit I unplug the cable or not? or do i just manually wait for it to reach 80%?
1. Unplug if not in use
2. Keep the plug on regardless if it reaches the limit
