Introduced by IronMind in 1994, the Captains of Crush No. 4 gripper has been the subject of lore, envy and magnetic appeal, and transcending the strength world, it has even appeared on the front page of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). It was last closed officially in 2004 by no less than World’s Strongest Man winner Magnus Samuelsson, but the drought has ended as Carl “The Blackpool Tower” Myerscough officially closed the CoC No. 4 gripper . . . with no ifs, ands or buts. Job well done! Myerscough is 43 years old, 6’ 10” tall and weighs 340 lb.
The subject of lore, envy and magnetic appeal, it’s been a wait of almost 20 years since the Captains of Crush No. 4 gripper has been officially closed; and Carl Myerscough made grip strength history when he certified on this legendary test of hand strength with no ifs, ands or buts-all it took was an extraordinary measure of crushing grip strength.

I have seen several videos of you closing No. 4 under the new rules and I no longer doubt whether it was closed or not. Do you understand filmed as you were told and it becomes difficult to get everything in then and not the best angle for us who are sitting in the stands watching. an outstanding achievement and many congratulations.

I can bring a coc#4 really in doing my negs too. Closing 3.5s, ghp8s and a#4 are my goals indeed. Immense overall Strength and punching power and more the benefits of training grip. Also arm wrestling.❤

Hey Ironmind, can I make a suggestion for your certification page?
The Captains of Crush #4 certification should be separated in 2 sections: pre-credit card set and current "credit card" set rules.
Carl's close should be noted as the first official close under the current rules.

It looked like there may have been a very tiny space. That sound is doesn’t seem to be from the handles. Probably just something crinkly that he stepped on.

Carl is the first person in history to certify on the No. 4 with a credit card set, the rule established in 2004. 5 people between 1998-2004 certified on the No. 4 before the rule change, and did so without having to have such a wide set like a credit card set - so it was much easier, though still difficult. If you're asking how many people have ever gotten a No. 4 of any kind closed at all from any set width, I'd estimate it's around 25-40 people total.

Impressive. I'm curious, how does someone's size and body weight factor into their "relative grip strength". For example, you'd expect a guy who's 6'4 and 280 to be naturally a lot stronger than a guy who's 5'7 and 140. As someone who's 155lbs. I don't think closing a 4 is within my genetic potential.....so the question is, given that I'm half the size of the guy in this video, if I close a 3, will it be as impressive as him closing a 4? or something like that? Right now I'm between the 2 and the 2.5

I bet Ironmind has already seen videos from him showing he could, and we know gripper strengths may vary on different 4 grippers, and as such maybe they have some tolerance on this one for being the hardest, so maybe they just needed a video of him doing that but already knew he could.
It's difficult to see if he has done it until the end, but, it seems that he can do it and that he's a person that deserves the certification.
Don't forget that there are several persons certified on the 4th that never had to do it with the new credit card rules, so this was the best 4th close video ever.
Anyway this certification through video seems a good idea, as I live far from the US, and in 2016 I was bending red nails very well just a few months after starting bending nails, and wanted to certify and Ironmind took months to answer, and told me there wasn't anybody in my country to be a referee, and when I tried to contact them again the following year they didn't seem much interest in having another red nailer (DO method), so I gave up certifications, and never bent anything more since then (got tired of bending).
But seeing certifications by video, makes me think that nowadays certifying would be easier for me that live in Portugal, Europe.
But now I don't like bending as before, so, who cares about certs now, I'm having fun doing other things. :)
Anyway I think that although the video didn't have the best quality, Carl deserves to certify, as there are other certified who didn't follow the new rules, and it not any person that would do something like this.
      So congratulations to him.

@@MrSiledov it defo wasn’t, it was close to being closed. When have you ever seen a certification be this rushed? He was super far away from the camera as well for no reason, you would think for such a huge certification that there would be an official ref present, or at the very least a clear shot of the close, it’s not fair to the other people trying to certify to count this

    • @GoncaloFerreira
      @GoncaloFerreira 11 місяців тому

@@Joe-mp4nw one thing is certain, in 2016 I tried to contact Ironmind because with a few months training I was already bending several red nails in a minute, but not sure if it was because I had a 150 lbs bodyweight, they only answered me months after when I wasn't bending anymore telling me that there were no referees in my country, and when I got back to them several months later and tried to certified again and told them there were several famous athletes/persons to certify me as a referee in my country (Portugal, Europe), so that they would accept my certification attempt (I would do videos also, etc), someone answered me that trying to choose referees would get me disqualified, so, at that time, I realized they didn't want me to certify on the red nail, and gave up.
So I like that they allow remote certification attempts nowadays, because I couldn't certify back then, and I lost a lot because I would have been the first one in my country to do it. But on the other hand, almost no one in my country knows Ironmind, so I didn't lose that much I think, the most important thing is that thousands of persons saw me do feats live those times, I have videos, photos, memories. Why do I need certs?
Specially nowadays that I stopped bending for 6 years now and started doing a very cool thing: program computer games. :)
So in a way, I think "yeah it might not be fair to allow others to certify by video nowadays" as they didn't let me, but on the other hand, I don't want others not to be certified for the same reasons I didn't.
But on the other hand, Ironmind changed rules many times, so not all COC 4 roosters are the same, not all steel benders are the same in the certs, etc, those certifications are always changing rules.
Now the question is: are they allowing everybody to certify through video, or do they allow it just to Olympians and famous people?
But I congratulated him because I think that if Ironmind accepted it it's because they probably have an idea that he can do it.
Of course I can't be sure, but contratulations to him anyway, as it's a COC 4.
