With an empty server, Mumbo is no longer mayor so he now is left to just try and continue his purpose in other universes. Grian prime being sorry could have been him saying sorry he has to leave grumbot in season 7.
I think now that the season has ended, this is a really good theory, but the lack of Mumbo for a large portion of it made Grumbot really realize what he had done, which is why at the end of Grian's finale, instead of trying to manipulate him into staying or throwing a tantrum, Grumbot just says "Be good."

Im personally a big fan of the idea that Grumbot is all foreboding and shit because Mumbo and Grian decided to be evil in season 7. Just "Welp, fuck, didnt win mayor. Time for plan B, ig" *Becomes tyrant* This would be made even funnier by the fact that Grian and Mumbo are on like opposite sides of the moral spectrum. Like I love Mumbo, but that man has 1 evil bone in his body, and its in his pinky toe. He's just so naturally nice that its hard to imagine him being effectively evil. Pair that with Grian (a known troublemaker and someone unopposed to murder and sabotage of his enemies), and the comedy is overflowing. I just like this outcome for the hypothetical scenarios, and also to keep that "Silly funky lore" vibe hermitcraft has going on. Like Grumbot acts evil to be like his dads, but hes ultimately just edgy. (The "My Grian was sorry too" comment couldve been from a whole bunch of things, idk bro)
I have a theory similar to this but there is a slightly difference;Grian prime won the resistance, and had grumbot locked away into the deep dark. Slowly he began manifesting the deep dark’s power, explaining the sculk which it has in its design. Eventually he was able to activate a rift through the ancient city portal which led him to the season 9 timeline.
Another theory, grumbot had full control of the server. He had everything he could ever want, except for one thing, Grian. Grian had held a rebellion, trying to overthrow grumbot, so grumbot had to punish him somehow. But in the end, Grian had been Grumbot's dad, he helped create him and brought him joy early on. Despite the rebellion, maybe, deep down, grumbot missed Grian. The Grian that was always there with grumbot. And so, however the rift came to be, maybe grumbot saw it as an opportunity. With his extreme brilliance, he might have been able to figure out what was on the other side of the rift, and learn of the alternate timeline, and there he saw him, Grian. Maybe that's what drew him here, and maybe that's why he hasn't done anything actually bad, because he doesn't want to leave Grian again
In the most recent episode, Grumbot says the other universe (the rift portal) is not in his database, and for Grian and the other hermits to go explore it. What if this is Grumbot's plan to take over hermitcraft? While more than half the server is away, he can easily gain power. With the rift now open, he has access to the empires smp, so if he *does* get more power, he can then take over empires. Great video btw! I love all your theories
Personally, I like the "Multiversal Domination Theory". It may seem dark, but it could make the lore interesting, especially if it somehow interconnects with Rendog's lore in his Season 9 first episode about the coming "Darkness" and since the admiral says the Gigapod needs to be protected at all costs, what if the Gigapod itself is a source of power that Grumbot Prime needs to be strong enough for domination, or some kind of "Kryptonite" for Grumbot Prime that when he discovers its existence, he will do anything to destroy it? Just my speculation though.
Ok, just here me out, maybe Grian has been planning this all along. According to LORE! Season 8 was a simulation, but halfway through said simulation, a virus began to try and take control of it. So Ren and Doc crashed the moon into season8 to kill the virus. At the time, I thought the virus was Herobrine or something… but what if, it was Grumbot… what if it isn’t about domination. What if Grumbot is so mad at Grian that he wants him dead, in every universe.

As someone watching this in the future, where we know where the rift goes, I think that maybe Grumbot Prime might have tried to manipulate the rift but accidently caused it to go to Empires instead of back to his timeline, because now he has a new Hermitcraft that might help him to take back his timeline after being banished, which is probably why Grumbot asks Grian "where is Mumbo" and "Mumbo not found, purpose not found" (obviously you wouldn't have had all this extra lore because this video was released a year ago
I think that its sadly the sinister version of events, i mean you can already see grumbot manipulating grian, gathering all th hermits, pushing the button, making another grumbot on enpires and giving him ideas on videos to gain his trust That manipulative son of a gun, if only mumbo was here so he could make him mayor
my personal theory was much darker. notice how grumbot prime appeared to be reinforeced and rusted? my theory is some kind of doomsday happended during season 7 and he was forced to flee

I am really curious to know what is going to happen in Grian's next video, now that he pressed the button. But one thing that I noticed was that in LDShadowLady's new video of Empires S2, she found something that really looks like the rift! don't know if this is actually connected to The Rift we know, since the glass trick is very well know in the Minecraft community, but the design was literally the same. And from what I know, Lizzie's the first person to find this weird rift-look-a-like on Empires, and her video was posted just a few days after Grian's -- where he pressed the button. What if the consequence of pressing the button was expanding The Rift, making it appear in other SMP's? In Lizzie's video, she sent a villager through the rift-look-a-like, and he disappeared. my thought doesn't involve the "my grian was sorry too" part but is about, what if all seasons of hermitcraft took place on the same planet on different islands until season 8 because the moon hit and that grumbot prime had to escape from the moon through the rift into season 9
or mumbo was a bad mayor so grian started a resistance but grumbot prime, not knowing that grian is not going to hurt mumbo decided to kill that grian irl
I think Grumbot Prime like our grumbot actually cared for Mumbo and Grian. However once Mumbo actually won and Grumbot Prime got a taste of real power, he does everything in your theory. This differentiates him from our Grumbot, Jrumbot, and Empires Grumbot. Empires or Emperor Grumbot would destroy every universe where there wasn't a Mumbo, if given the chance(like infinity Ultron). Grumbot Prime however couldn't care less about Mumbo, he just wants full on control. Also there's a Grumbot who seems to run the entire Hermatrix/Hermitheus, and Hermatrix server. This one looks more like the original Grumbot than any of the others which leads me to believe that it *is* him just repurposed.
Yeah I realized about the hermatrix Grumbot after making this video. Yeah that Grumbot could possibly be original, just repurposed, or maybe it might be a copy built specifically for space travel

I don't think grumbot prime is evil. Those theories are all based around one line of dialouge from grumbot. Emperor grumbot was evil. Look at grumbot prime's design, he's bigger and more complex than our grumbot. I think after mumbo prime won he did use grumbot for advice. However i think grumbot being angry when grian told him sorry and grumbot telling him that his grian was sorry too is probably because of the end of the season. All the hermits were leaving and giran prime probably said sorry since he had to leave grumbot prime behind. I think grumbot prime is still upset with his grian for leaving to start season 8 in the prime timeline. As for how grumbot prime got to our grian's base? I think the rift was opened by grumbot prime. Think about it. Emperor grumbot ((grumbot 2.0)) was able to connect to it and reactivate the rift on both sides, empires and hermitcraft. Also he has the same tech as grumbot prime. So here's what i think happened. Grumbot prime was left behind in hermitcraft prime's season 7 world. Alone and without purpose he opened the rift, searching for a new purpose. He then found our timeline and entered grian's base. Creating a new purpose for himself as grian's content generator. As for why Emperor grumbot was evil. I think he was a copy of season 7 grumbot. Once he came online the happy illusion he was living in was shattered. Finding out it was all a lie and that mumbo was gone probably made him snap. He was also probably more intelligent because of his 1.19 block upgrades.
Dang, I'd *LOVE* to see that version of Hermitcraft seaon 7! The one we've got with the mycelium resistance is probably better, but just imagining a Mumbo-Grumbot puppet government versus Grian and one of his wacky resistances that eventually leads to falure and Grian's doom is just the coolest thing ever.

Maybe the "my grian was sorry too" is the latest words thats grian said toi grumbot before switching him off BUT, grumbot had the Time to make saves of his personnality Somewhere and send them through something ans came back in hermicraft Season 9 AT first he was watching hermits to learn them and learn how they lives (maybe more than 80% of the hermits had play with the random genrrator) And then grumbot start his plan to take his revenge But mumbo will come back one day or another and will confront grumbot to saves hermits thats could make him become mayor, king or savior of the serveur
my (dark) theory: in the altenate timeline, there was some sort of nulcear war (explained by the copper reinfocments) and a as last failsafe grian and mumbo prime binded their consciences with grumbot's, and are planning to take this universe and make a "utopia" where everything is just its puppets kinda like in wings of fire arc 3
i have a theory, altanate grians (let's just call him a-grian) rebelion won and created the rift and send grumbot into it, a-grian was sorry for helping create grumbot and made an apollogy video featuring a guitar to all the other hermits after a-grumbot became a-mumbos puppetier and he started a rebelion and won and created a dimentional rift and send a-grumbot into it
I kind of agree with you but with some few changes. So basically Grian prime(and the other hermits) went to war with Grumbot Prime but the hermits lost and Grumbot prime imprisoned Grian somewhere (idk exactly). One day a portal opened and sucked every-hermit to season 8. Or the hermatrix or something. Anyway, grumbot sees the portal is about to close. Realizing that mumbo went inside, grumbot tried to get in. But the portal glitched so grumbot later found itself in Grian’s season 9 base. When Grian made emperor grumbot, he realized that Mumbo is nowhere to be seen. Grumbot probably thought that Grian did something to him. Who knows what he will do? Thank you for reading this❤❤
I do like your theory. Maybe Grumbot is manipulating season 9 grian as he did to season 7 mumbo, because it seems like Grian is doing EVERYTHING Grumbot says. A few episodes later, they get "sucked in" to the empires server, which proves that the rift is entirely possible of doing that. Rather peculiar
it also took XB to empires season 1 and another season of hermit craft however I don’t remember which at the moment however I think it is season 7 so it proves that it’s not just a season two of empires
A theory I have is that Grumbot Prime comes from an "Original" universe, let me explain. He says that he comes from the rift, which probably is an error of the main universe, due to it being in various universes (EmpireSMP and HC-9 at the moment). Also, "prime" could mean primordial, that also means something that was the original or "since the start of time". Edit: The why he says that his Grian said sorry too is that maybe Grian and Mumbo fought in his universe (just like you said), that could lead into two possibilities: 1° Grian won, and with the power of president/dictator, he ruined Hermitcraft, meaning that the other Hermits had to create the rifts to run to other universes, or that Grian destroyed HC at an abnormal level, even destroying the reality itself, creating the rifts. 2° Mumbo won, Grian was trapped and begged for forgiveness and said sorry. Now, the rifts here would probably have been made for two reasons (yes, we are doing this again): 1° Make Mumbo win in every universe, thats why in the second universe we've seen so far (EmpireSMP) Grumbot Emperor got mad, because there wasn't any *Mumbo* to make win their elections. 2° Destroy all the Grians in every universe. This would be the reason as to why Prime went to Grian's basement. To try to be friendly, then stab him in the back. Or maybe Prime Grumbot said that because he saw in a possible fourth universe (Last Life) Grian murder Mumbo, and Grian beg for forgiveness to deceased Mumbo.

Maybe the "my grian was sorry too" is the latest words thats grian said toi grumbot before switching him off
BUT, grumbot had the Time to make saves of his personnality Somewhere and send them through something ans came back in hermicraft Season 9
AT first he was watching hermits to learn them and learn how they lives (maybe more than 80% of the hermits had play with the random genrrator)
And then grumbot start his plan to take his revenge
But mumbo will come back one day or another and will confront grumbot to saves hermits thats could make him become mayor, king or savior of the serveur
my (dark) theory: in the altenate timeline, there was some sort of nulcear war (explained by the copper reinfocments) and a as last failsafe grian and mumbo prime binded their consciences with grumbot's, and are planning to take this universe and make a "utopia" where everything is just its puppets kinda like in wings of fire arc 3

i have a theory, altanate grians (let's just call him a-grian) rebelion won and created the rift and send grumbot into it, a-grian was sorry for helping create grumbot and made an apollogy video featuring a guitar to all the other hermits after a-grumbot became a-mumbos puppetier and he started a rebelion and won and created a dimentional rift and send a-grumbot into it
I kind of agree with you but with some few changes.
So basically Grian prime(and the other hermits) went to war with Grumbot Prime but the hermits lost and Grumbot prime imprisoned Grian somewhere (idk exactly).
One day a portal opened and sucked every-hermit to season 8. Or the hermatrix or something. Anyway, grumbot sees the portal is about to close. Realizing that mumbo went inside, grumbot tried to get in. But the portal glitched so grumbot later found itself in Grian’s season 9 base.
When Grian made emperor grumbot, he realized that Mumbo is nowhere to be seen.
Grumbot probably thought that Grian did something to him.
Who knows what he will do?

well the hermits got sent to empires smp via rift so that would be plenty of time to take over the server with no one on it

I do like your theory. Maybe Grumbot is manipulating season 9 grian as he did to season 7 mumbo, because it seems like Grian is doing EVERYTHING Grumbot says. A few episodes later, they get "sucked in" to the empires server, which proves that the rift is entirely possible of doing that. Rather peculiar
Yeah and I’d love to see the rift take another role towards the end of the season
it also took XB to empires season 1 and another season of hermit craft however I don’t remember which at the moment however I think it is season 7 so it proves that it’s not just a season two of empires

A theory I have is that Grumbot Prime comes from an "Original" universe, let me explain.
He says that he comes from the rift, which probably is an error of the main universe, due to it being in various universes (EmpireSMP and HC-9 at the moment).
Also, "prime" could mean primordial, that also means something that was the original or "since the start of time".
Edit: The why he says that his Grian said sorry too is that maybe Grian and Mumbo fought in his universe (just like you said), that could lead into two possibilities:
1° Grian won, and with the power of president/dictator, he ruined Hermitcraft, meaning that the other Hermits had to create the rifts to run to other universes, or that Grian destroyed HC at an abnormal level, even destroying the reality itself, creating the rifts.
2° Mumbo won, Grian was trapped and begged for forgiveness and said sorry. Now, the rifts here would probably have been made for two reasons (yes, we are doing this again):
1° Make Mumbo win in every universe, thats why in the second universe we've seen so far (EmpireSMP) Grumbot Emperor got mad, because there wasn't any *Mumbo* to make win their elections.
2° Destroy all the Grians in every universe. This would be the reason as to why Prime went to Grian's basement. To try to be friendly, then stab him in the back.
Or maybe Prime Grumbot said that because he saw in a possible fourth universe (Last Life) Grian murder Mumbo, and Grian beg for forgiveness to deceased Mumbo.
