Desi, we love this video! You captured the joy we feel every day being surrounded by beautiful covers, discovering hidden treasures, and reveling in the love of books. Thank you for sharing your Powell's experience, we hope to see you again someday! 😍📚

Very kind and thoughtful of you. I've always wanted to visit Powell's, and when a co-worker visited your store while on a trip to Portland a few years ago, I gave him money to get me a Powell's tote bag. Living vicariously through Desi, I got to truly experience how much of a book lover's paradise Powell's is. I could easily plan an entire trip around multiple visits to your store, with each day spent exploring a different section. THAT would be a dream vacation! 🙂
Back when I was a kid I wanted to go on a 'shopping spree' for Christmas. My mom got me a $100 gift certificate for our local mall. I thought I was the richest girl in the world. I blew the entire amount at Waldenbooks buying up the _Sweet Valley Twins_ series. On my Sumner vacations from grade school I used to read the Nancy Drew mystery books and willingly write book reports about them. As a kid I also liked to write to my favorite authors and tell them how how much I enjoyed their stories. A few even wrote back. I remember that the letters from LJ Smith, the author of the 'vampire diaries' series were on such beautiful stationery. She wrote me multiple times in junior high & I was so excited and happy; she was such a kind lady. I guess I've always been a reading nerd! Powell's looks like paradise! And how do people *not* watch to the end of your videos?! You don't have a single second of dull content.... ever!
I live less than two hours from Powel's and have made it a tradition to go for my birthday with my dad. Seeing that edition of Return of the King brings back so many memories! My Dad read me The Hobbit and LOTR as my bedtime stories, and every time we finished a book we would go together to store and pick up the next book. Well, by the time we made it to the Return of the King, they'd switched the covers! We were so disappointed that the final book didn't match. At least now I get to see what it would have looked like!
Wow! I would be like a kid in a candy store at Powell's! Thanks for taking us book shopping vicariously. Someday it will be me! LOVED your copy of Little Women!
I screenshot this video so many times to look up the books I am a sucker for pretty covers. I love the vintage looking books. I love the physical books and smell of pages as well.
It was so much fun following you around ❤️ the joy of seeing a fellow booklover in their natural habitat is probably one of the most soothing things for me on this planet 🤗 enjoy your reads!
Oh my! Powell’s looks amazing! I’d absolutely spend an entire day there and be ridiculously broke by the time I left. P.S.: Fabulous job as always Desi! Hope you are feeling better.
Happy people that love what they do and love the simple things of life, will always draw me in and to stay throughout the whole video. Thank you for all of the warmth that you give through your videos, the joy in reading; and always remember that we can be anyone, go anywhere, at anytime on earth through the pages of a book. We can even be home, and still be on a holiday through the pages. Have a lovely and blessed 🌞 day!
I love watching you and Morgan Long. I’m glad you got to go to Powell…I’m so jealous! Maybe one day I will make it there myself. Your love of reading has inspired me to broaden my book library and get back into reading again. I love your sense of wonder!

I'm only 14 years old and I love reading books so much because it brings so much joy and happiness to me whenever I have real life problems also I loved this video soo much very aesthetic. Love from the girl who loves reading 📚 💕 ❤
I’m so jealous of your Susan Branch cookbook. I follow her blog, and I have so many of her recipes saved on Pinterest. This was THE coziest video I’ve ever watched.
I totally get you about the reading with audio! I am also dyslexic and get so so frustrated when I can't read as quickly as other people and always feel like there are so so so many books I want to read and not enough time in the world! I get so envious when people like my Nana can get through a book in a day but using audio is so helpful. I also really like having a physical book so I rarely listen without the book in my hand. Do you ever get the feeling that you're cheating though? I sometimes feel like I'm cheating but it's the only way I can get through books any faster! I am just rambling now, I have just never found anyone who does this!!! Do you read in your head the way you read out loud? Like with all the pauses and inflections of speech, that's why I read so slowly 😊
I read the same way!! I've struggled with dyslexia my whole life and I fell in love with reading after I figured out that listening to them while having the physical book in front of me was key. Thank you for creating such wonderful content that truly helps lift spirits.
hey desi i just wanted to say thank you so much for being such an amazing person. your youtube chanel is my safe space. i have been going through a super hard time recently and you always bring me joy and help me to forget about what is going on outside my screen. i love you so much and really do appreciate your videos. thank you so much. always and forever zahrah
I love that you enjoy reading. My daughter is dyslexic and she is nine. I hope she enjoys books as much as you do. I read the worst witch collections to both of my girls at bedtime
I'm so glad you picked up The Tasha Tudor Cookbook!! I was going to recommend it on one of your previous videos. It is a book I've loved for years! I actually have both editions of it, the vintage version that you now own and the updated/revised edition. The vintage one has a bunch more recipes and illustrations in it and reads more like a cozy story where you've been invited to sit down with Tasha Tudor for tea and a chat. Whereas the newer one has fewer recipes and less stories/illustrations but it has actual photographs of the different foods and more "modernized" recipes. I HIGHLY recommend the gingerbread recipe in this cookbook though! It is so incredibly delicious. I love to bake it and then eat it warm with some butter. It is so autumnal and amazing! And at some point I want to try to make the toffee recipe because it sounds so old-fashioned and like it would be such fun to make. 🥰
It would be so magical to write a note to yourself, about your trip, on the post cards and send them to yourself. They’ll be postmarked and a special token to look at in years to come
I love this video so much, I adore you so much! It is so cute how you romanticize the experience of seeing, feeling, reading books cause you are telling the whole truth. It's so calming/comforting/satisfying being surrounded by books. Even though this book is from years ago, I feel you girl!! Second video I have seen of book shopping at Powell's and now I need to go to Oregon.... Never thought I would say that.
My son is 6 and has just started his journey with dyslexia. He is struggling to learn to read, but your talk about audio books gave me hope for him ❤ Thank you. Also, excited you mentioned Morgan Long- you, Morgan and Rachel Maksy are my favourite UA-camrs 🌼🌸😘 x
I love this!!! Bookshops are my happy places. Nothing better than actually coming out with books (they're so expensive and you can get them cheaper online so I rarely allow myself to buy instore, but when I do it makes me so happy!). Glad you got an amazing haul Desi!
Bookstores are the best! Specially thrift bookstores 🥰 I once spent hours in a thrift bookstore looking for all the books in the anne of green gables series - found them all and i look fondly on that memory everytime.
Yes you’re so right! There are so many treasures to be found in used bookstores. I once round a really old edition of Pride and Prejudice at a thrift bookstore for only $3 🤯 I think it’s so cool that Powell’s sells new and used books, so if the book is too expensive there’s usually a cheaper used copy you can pick up instead! 😃
I was just thinking I so wished you and Morgan had met up at Powell’s! You both are fav UA-camrs of mine. And Loving the look you have in the blue sweater. The entire look is gorgeous!
Ahhh thank you! And I was actually talking with Morgan just after I got back to Utah. It’s funny because she was out of town the weekend I was in Portland! But I’d love to collaborate with her when I go back to Oregon later this summer ☺️
Collectors understand why you need more than one copy of the same book 🖤 I have six copies of Anna Karenina (and counting!) and they all sit on the shelf next to each other 😅 I also find it amusing to give the most ambiguous descriptions of things possible, so when people ask what it’s about, I say “Hypocrisy.” 😂 Edit: for anyone interested who enjoys audiobooks, Maggie Gyllenhaal narrated Anna Karenina for Audible and it is sublime ☺️
I'm always pleased to see that you have posted a new video. To use a cliche, you are a breath of fresh air! Your video's always put me in a happy frame of mind. I'm a book lover too. I'm a slow reader, so I find with the idea of reading while listening to an audio-book appealing.
Girl you read my mind or something. I was just thinking of you yesterday.💖 Wishing you would post a video. Now today you did. The ultimate BEST UA-camr. 🏆
Around 4:10, you picked a Jane Austen "omnibus" edition, the softcover with Jane's profile. This brought back memories! I once had that same edition as a gift. I read the different novels for years until the book literally fell apart. So nice to see it again!
Ahhh we were only there for a few days and our schedule was pretty packaged. But i’m hoping to go back to Oregon later this summer! A collaboration might definitely be in the works for that trip ☺️
I just found your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching on my walks. I live in SW WA state, very close to Portland and Powell's. Was just there last Tuesday. I realized watching your video how lucky I am to be able to visit any time I want, and how I tend to take it for granted. Thank you for showing me your fresh perspective and joy during your visit there.
Its really great to see someone else dyslexic that's passionate about books and reading. I really appreciate how you don't edit out the little struggles x
As always, it’s so lovely to see you in a new video and you did such an especially amazing job with this. Bookstores and libraries always feel like such a safe place. I’m also wanting to know more about your coastal grandmother summer aesthetic!!! Are you planning on doing more videos about the aesthetic?
You make such pleasurable videos, I don't understand not watching until the end or skipping to the end for that matter. I loved your excursion to Powell's ... ...definite @MorganLong vibes :)
Thank you so much, Amy friend : ) And YES, I absolutely agree-- it seems impossible to not watch videos until the end, especially cozy bookstore videos!
After such a hard week, my kitty lost her battle to cancer on he 18th May, this video is just what I needed. Your childlike wonder around books is what my soul needed. I love old book stores, that musty smell when you walk in and imagining where those books have been. I even love it when they have old messages written into them, I often imagine the person getting the book being so happy to have it.
I feel the same way about books and their smells/messages. I too lost a friend on the 18th May our dear boy bunny Tom - Desi's videos are such a pick me up I love them xx
@@DarlingDesi I travel with my husband for his work. It is hard to make friends as an adult when moving every few months. We might be moving out to the pacific northwest again soon. If we do I would love to meet up with you☕️📚
What a joy to watch! You are my girl! Anyone who loves Jane Austen and buys editions of Pride and Prejudice because they are pretty has my heart. I would love to go to that bookstore. I am old school. I love the experience of real books. I know that you can buy online books and eliminate a lot of space takers but I want to feel, smell and look at the illustrations. There is nothing like a real book. I have lots of children's books as well. I was an early childhood educator. Never enough! I want to collect all the stories of Cinderella. There are so many adaptations of the Cinderella story. I got into that when I took a children's lit class. I love your outlook. You inspire me.
i m binge-watching your videos in the last few days, it is so good for the soul, thank you for your beautiful content. i cant believe you have allready been to my home-city!
Finding more book lovers that are dyslexic is such a blessing. I LOVE your content and knowing that you suffer from dyslexia too and you're so successful and cool is like...Idk. It feels really good. You're inspiring.
I wonder if that is because Emily's story is a bit sad to begin with. That aunt of hers is so difficult etc. Gradually, it gets better for Emily. Thank goodness. ~ Heather ~
I really loved Emily of New Moon; Emily just reminded me of a more introverted Anne. When I was growing up there was an Emily of New Moon tv show but it deviated a lot from the books and I didn't care for it as much.

This video made me so happy I nearly cried! I could smell the books through the screen. Thank you for sharing this trip! Our family has the House of Danger game and we love it! It does take about 2 hours to play, but it’s so much fun, especially if you enjoyed Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid.
I am also dyslexic and read along with the audio of a book of a lot of my books. It’s so fantastic to hear that someone else does the same thing I do. Thanks for sharing!
Desiree, I think you'd like being at 'bibliotheca Alexandria' in Alexandria, Egypt, which was the biggest library in the ancient times Also, you always have the best book recommendations 💙
@@CrisOnTheInternet Ikr!! Like the current library has already a huge amount of books, monuments, and many different types of arts and works from the past, and they say that this is nothing compared to the past one!. OK I take it that you’re possibly in Portland and the thought of you and Morgan Long doing a video together -I would die-it would be the best! Enjoy your time in book paradise!
Hi, Gayle friend! Hahaha thank you for being excited about the possibility of a collaboration between Desi and me! Our timing didn't work out for this visit because I was out of town when Desi was here BUT, we are planning another visit soon!
I am about to get my seventh edition of the Lord of the Rings, I totally get you XD also I cannot express in words how jealous I am for your trip to that bookstore. I would have cried for joy. Now I am crying because I know I will never go there, I am literatly half the world away.
Chris, is you want something that badly you can really make it happen, just put it on your dream board and your dreams will come true I have seen happen to many friends. By the way Powell's is really worth the trip.
Loved you video tour of Powell’s bookstore. It looks like heaven to be in there. I share your fascination and love for books and the joy of reading, especially the classics. Thanks for your insight on the books you bought. ❤
Question for Desi and everyone else, roughly what percentage of your books have you actually read? I’m hoping this makes me feel better about my massive book hoarding because I’ve only read about 1/3 of the books I own and I just keep buying more.
I’ve probably read just over half the books that I own 🤔 Maybe a little more? I don’t mind having so many books because my dream is to have a library room in my house someday! So telling myself that when I buy more books makes me feel less bad about acquiring more 😄
You should check out @Morgan Long’s channel! She’s so similar to you and she always goes to this bookstore! You guys are both awesome content creators, and even just getting to know each other can be quite the enlightening experience!
I love Morgan’s channel! Her videos are always so calming and such a breath of fresh air 😌 I think Morgan was actually my first introduction to Powell’s! ☺️💗
I also didn’t read much before but really into it this year. I visited Portland back in 2019 but since I wasn’t into books then, I didn’t even think to visit this place. I didn’t even know about it. I guess now I have to plan a trip back. Thanks for sharing, it was amazing.

Well, by the time we made it to the Return of the King, they'd switched the covers! We were so disappointed that the final book didn't match. At least now I get to see what it would have looked like!
Aww so cute
Being obsessed with browsing, buying and collecting books I would love to visit this shop.

Powells is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world, it's lovely to see a video about it. I miss Portland
This "run free, Desiree!" really have my heart. We adore you both. Lots of blesses
It was so much fun following you around ❤️ the joy of seeing a fellow booklover in their natural habitat is probably one of the most soothing things for me on this planet 🤗 enjoy your reads!
I’m so so glad you enjoyed it!! ☺️💗✨
Watching your videos makes me feel relaxed, especially this video, I always come back to this video now and then.
Thank you so much, friend! I hope you get to visit Powell's some day soon!

I officially am adding this store + most of these books to my Bucketlist 😍 also NEED that mug!!!
Thank you for creating such wonderful content that truly helps lift spirits.
hey desi
i just wanted to say thank you so much for being such an amazing person. your youtube chanel is my safe space. i have been going through a super hard time recently and you always bring me joy and help me to forget about what is going on outside my screen. i love you so much and really do appreciate your videos. thank you so much.
always and forever zahrah
They’ll be postmarked and a special token to look at in years to come
Growing up in the area, I've spent many happy hours exploring and loving Powell's. it's an amazing place. I'm glad you got to experience it. 😊
What a lovely Tuesday morning surprise!!! Thank you Desi! 💕
Thank you os much for including me, friend! I'm honored to be a favorite UA-camr of yours. Hugs to you and your son ❤
I love Powell's! I got to visit last October and I spent almost every day of my brief vacation browsing their shelves. It's so big!
I love this!!! Bookshops are my happy places. Nothing better than actually coming out with books (they're so expensive and you can get them cheaper online so I rarely allow myself to buy instore, but when I do it makes me so happy!). Glad you got an amazing haul Desi!
on a completely different note, that hair suits you AMAZINGLY you look so beautiful
You’re so so kind! Thank you so much! 💗💕
I once round a really old edition of Pride and Prejudice at a thrift bookstore for only $3 🤯
I think it’s so cool that Powell’s sells new and used books, so if the book is too expensive there’s usually a cheaper used copy you can pick up instead!
Thank you so much for including me, friend! Desi and my timing didn't work out for this visit but YES, we're looking forward to another soon!
Best things in life are books book stores tea & kitties in your lap! I love this bookstore 📖 😯🥰
Collectors understand why you need more than one copy of the same book 🖤
I have six copies of Anna Karenina (and counting!) and they all sit on the shelf next to each other 😅
I also find it amusing to give the most ambiguous descriptions of things possible, so when people ask what it’s about, I say “Hypocrisy.” 😂
Edit: for anyone interested who enjoys audiobooks, Maggie Gyllenhaal narrated Anna Karenina for Audible and it is sublime ☺️
I'm always pleased to see that you have posted a new video. To use a cliche, you are a breath of fresh air! Your video's always put me in a happy frame of mind. I'm a book lover too. I'm a slow reader, so I
find with the idea of reading while listening to an audio-book appealing.
Girl you read my mind or something. I was just thinking of you yesterday.💖 Wishing you would post a video. Now today you did. The ultimate BEST UA-camr. 🏆
I was thinking to myself "I hope Desi is doing well", so glad to see your video!
4:02 I also love books and Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors. I just adore your videos.😍
Jared: "You look so cute when you're excited about books."
- So...all the time 😊
When did he say it
@@sadiaali371 towards the end of the video
Around 4:10, you picked a Jane Austen "omnibus" edition, the softcover with Jane's profile. This brought back memories! I once had that same edition as a gift. I read the different novels for years until the book literally fell apart. So nice to see it again!
I'm jealous! Every time I watch Morgan go to Powell's I wish we had one here! Glad you had such a great time and found so many treasures!
I'm so happy to see you here, my mermaid friend!
Desi’s videos about books are a whole other level of heaven 🤍🌟🌻✨💛🦋🌞
I'm only a minute in but I'm hoping for a Morgan Long cameo haha If not, the next trip you two should totally meet up!! Dream bookish collab :)
Ahhh we were only there for a few days and our schedule was pretty packaged. But i’m hoping to go back to Oregon later this summer! A collaboration might definitely be in the works for that trip ☺️
Thank you so much, Michele friend!! I think your dream bookish collab will sometime soon come true : )
YAY!!! Oh I can’t wait!! 😍
I just found your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching on my walks. I live in SW WA state, very close to Portland and Powell's. Was just there last Tuesday. I realized watching your video how lucky I am to be able to visit any time I want, and how I tend to take it for granted. Thank you for showing me your fresh perspective and joy during your visit there.
you uploaded just as I was looking for something to cheer me up, perfect timing💕 love your videos
I would cry tears of joy if I could visit that bookshop. *Adds to bucket list.
I hope you get to visit soon!
I'm definitely saving for this trip now too! My husband will probably have a cow over how much the kids and I spend between the 4 of us book lovers 😍😂
This video felt like a warm blanket !!! Thank you so much for the little trick to listen to the audiobook while reading. :)
@@joannetucker3017 so sorry for your loss, its so very hard when we loose a pet, they become like family
Aw thank you Zoe - sorry for your loss too - yes they are family xx
Desi, I adore this video. Love it so much! Felt like I was there with you📖📚☕️ Wish I could get coffee and wander a bookstore with you
I don’t have many friends here and it’s been my dream to meet up with kindred spirits and browse a bookstore for hours 🥹 My kind of heaven!
I LOVED this video! Adding the bookstore to my bucket list. 💕
i m binge-watching your videos in the last few days, it is so good for the soul, thank you for your beautiful content. i cant believe you have allready been to my home-city!
He had me at "Pick all the books you want."
Finding more book lovers that are dyslexic is such a blessing. I LOVE your content and knowing that you suffer from dyslexia too and you're so successful and cool is like...Idk. It feels really good. You're inspiring.
Honestly, I found Emily of New Moon a bit of a chore to get through, but books 2 & 3 make is SO worth it!
Oh that’s so good to know! ☺️
You and Morgan are such sweet girls! It was such a nice experience to see the bookstore through your eyes! Xo
Thank you! 💗 I definitely think me and Morgan could be kindred spirits! ☺️✨ And I’m so glad you enjoyed the bookstore experience with me! 💕
Thank you so so much, friend
I am also dyslexic and read along with the audio of a book of a lot of my books. It’s so fantastic to hear that someone else does the same thing I do. Thanks for sharing!
Desiree, I think you'd like being at 'bibliotheca Alexandria' in Alexandria, Egypt, which was the biggest library in the ancient times
Also, you always have the best book recommendations 💙
Knowing that a lot of the knowledge was burnt, hurts 🥲

Like the current library has already a huge amount of books, monuments, and many different types of arts and works from the past, and they say that this is nothing compared to the past one!.

Hi, Gayle friend! Hahaha thank you for being excited about the possibility of a collaboration between Desi and me! Our timing didn't work out for this visit because I was out of town when Desi was here BUT, we are planning another visit soon!
@@MorganLong FANTASTIC!!!
By the way Powell's
is really worth the trip.
So telling myself that when I buy more books makes me feel less bad about acquiring more 😄
Iv read every single one Iv bought. I only buy a book when Iv finished a book, been doing that for 20 years. (I’m in my 30s now)
@@Tshanholtz1991 Very sensible but torture.
