I find beauty in summer...the fresh berries, lightning bugs, and thunderstorms but every year just gets unbearably hotter and hotter. Now, for me, summer is basically a countdown to autumn.
I kind of hate summer. I get seasonal depression in the summertime. Where I live, it gets too hot. 🔥 🥵 Likewise, Autumn is my absolute favorite season. I have a list of favorite things to do to help me get through the heat of summer. I start it on July 1st.
That message on the grave marker wasn't sinister. It was a gentle warning / reminder not to take life and people for granted. From dust we are and to dust we will return. Love the coastal, foggy scenes. Breathtaking! 💙
Desi girl, what state do you live in? I didn't realize you were so close to the New England coast. Hmmm. Oh and I love the way you escape this crazy world. I have been craving autumn sooo much (never cared for summer) that I have been adding twig wreaths etc. trying to achieve a sort of Hocus Pocus/ Practical Magic kind of kitcheny theme. I do love the vibe but don't want to get dark, I am a proud follower of Christ, just love the woodsy cottage vibe maybe? 😮
It is really neat to see so many fellow Fall lovers here. Every year I start looking for fall decor/watching fall decorating videos in July because I love it so much I can't wait! 😀
You (and your hubby’s) ability to film, edit and tell a story has just grown and developed. This was such a beautiful video to watch. I was enraptured at times. Those waves! Made me long for the fall, my fave time of year!
i love how Jared it's always hyping you up and following you everywhere, he's so respectful of your passions and likings! I hope I'll find my "Jared" one day, someone who understands what I love and love me for that🥺
I’ve been fighting a seasonal depression, despite it making no sense since it’s summer, but I always do - and they way I fight it, this year and every year, is to make my own “autumn” and I’ll just be 100% honest and say that I watched all of your Autumn and winter videos and it helped. It really did. So I love that this is a “pretending it’s fall” video. 💕
I have always gotten seasonal depression in the summer and no one could understand why. Now, as an adult, I keep the vibe of my house autumn all year except for Christmas. It has really helped. 🧡
Hi! I don’t know you and we probably will never meet in person but I just wanted you to know: We are all just humans, after all. It’s ok to feel overwhelmed, dissociated, depressed, angry, sad, scared… It’s normal. It’s hard and painful but in the end, it leads you to yourself. To your stronger, braver, more empathetic self. It makes you evolve as a Soul, it makes your heart grow bigger. I don’t know what made you have a restless night. But whether it’s just an uncomfortable pillow or something really serious, please, never give up and lose hope. Just be patient. Be careful. Be patient WITH YOURSELF AND OTHERS. Love every moment of life even if sometimes it really is hard. I send you my love and support, and the best wishes ⭐️ I hope your life is a great journey. That’s it. I felt like someone needed to hear that. I hope I helped you somehow ☺️😊
Ahhh I hope you take a nap and enjoy today despite having a restless night! Thank you for being here to watch this video that I loved filming so much 🥰🫶🏻
I’ve been having trouble building up to august (and trust that august itself will be difficult for me) because that’s the month of my boyfriend’s death anniversary. I miss him dearly each and everyday but summer tends to cause me strife in general because despite my favourite season being winter, his was always and will always be summer. The whole season is a reminder of what I’ve lost, yet your videos have shown me love and beauty surrounding the season beyond what my boyfriend already encouraged me to find. I can’t wait to watch this video over and over to remind myself that I can take a moment away from that bittersweet summer I’m slowly growing to love, and to take a moment in a season more comfortable. Less challenging. You always make me so happy and inspired Desi, and I appreciate the kindred spirits across the world that gather to you like old friends from a far away land. Thank you :)
Hi Desi! My name is Alicia. I was born, raised, and still live in New England. Someone suggested your channel. I'm slowly making my way through videos. I'm familiar with this lighthouse. It's one of my favorite places (especially for photography), though I haven't been in a while. Have a good one!
Autumn is MY FAVE. And the mansion you visited was giving such Jane Austen, Remains of the Day, Downton vibes. Love this. I needed this so much. Well done 😊
I needed this! I'm thirty and my mom thinks I'm childish bc I like to do things like this. It's hard not to get discouraged but when I see your videos and all these amazing comments, it reminds me I'm not alone! Also, I just have to say your painting was gorgeous! It completely surprised me when you said you don't know how to paint. Your husband cheering you on in the background was so cute!! ❤😊
Ah perfect content for me as I live in Australia, it's winter here so I'm deffs excited to watch this. Thank you Desi for creating the most beautiful content. In a world where social media tends to make people feel bad about themselves, yours always lifts people up.
You're love for spookiness in the middle of summer is contagious! Love everything you recommended and love, love, love the beautiful landscapes!!!! May I recommend "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" with Gene Tierney and "The Uninvited" with Ray Mill for spooky, seaside movies!
Dear Desi, Your videos bring me so much joy. I feel like in you I have met a kindred spirit (as Anne would say). I'm 44 years old and I still love romantisizing each season. I agree that middle school books can often be funner and spookier. Thanks for your content! P.S. I love the sound of crows too 😊.
I adore how you romanticize every little moment. I often have these little moments of scenarios in my head of how I want things to go and how I'll feel while doing them. I'm glad to know other people are enjoying those little moments. Not enough people slow down and really let themselves experience these things. I think we'd all be a lot happier if we did.
Thank you so much for hosting a premiere! 💕 I really appreciate your hard work to give us incredible videos! I’m so ready for fall that I keep revisiting your previous ones but I’m also loving your summer content!✨
I still get nervous to host premiers and hear everyone’s feedback as my video plays but it was such a heartwarming experience 🥹 Thank you for attending the premier! 🥹🫶🏻
Oh my goodness, this may be one of my favourite videos that you've ever made! The vibes are immaculate, and don't let anyone tell you that it's too soon to start feeling romantic about fall!
Can I just thank you for this video? I live in Florida, where the heat is extreme and the humidity is off the charts in the summer, which has made me dread and resent the season for most of my life (I'm 53). But after seeing this video, I felt inspired to see summer in a totally different light. Now, I can think of it as a time for moody, cozy, "dark nautica" themes, and gothic seaside atmospheres (as you can probably guess, fall/Halloween is my fave season!). I was so energized with a fresh attitude about summer, and it's all because of this video. Thank you so much, Desi!
Each one of Desi's videos is unique in its own way. I can not describe how happy each of them makes me feel. It is like i am watching short movies based on the most beautiful fairytales. Thank you Desi, Greetings from Bosnia🍂
"Moody misty seaside" content is my FAVOURITE content. Especially in this hot summer weather. So beautiful! Love the lighthouse ⚓💙 VERY excited for fall & winter seaside content Desi!
I loved this video. The scenery was breathtaking, and, I felt like I was right there. I never thought that anyone else enjoyed visiting cemeteries, I too, have a favorite reading spot in the cemetery where my family is. I sit under a cedar tree that is said to be over 150 years old, and read my books aloud. Nothing more peaceful.
skipping summer and jumping right into my comfort season that is fall!! Its my day off, its gloomy and raining and your video is the highlight of the day! Can’t wait 🍁🍂🍄🥹 Thanks Desi 🤗🤍
Your personality/nature is like being wrapped up in a warm blanket, whilst having a cozy chat with your best friend. You’re pure magic. ✨ Thank you so much for this video. My heart belongs with Autumn & Halloween, so this was absolutely lovely. I struggle during the summer, as I don’t do too well in the heat. I’ll definitely be coming back to this video, if the next month or so becomes too much. 🧡😘
I’ve been pretending as much as possible because I am sooooo over Summer. I live in South Louisiana where it has been very hot and humid. I’m ready to move on to my favorite season! I can’t wait for the cutting of the rice, festivals, and the change of the weather.
And that my friends is why I always come back to these videos! Literally the other day I was craving the smell of autumn leaves, pumpkin spice doughnuts and apple cider, and watching Hocus Pocus 🎃 Desi, you can officially read minds! Thank you for the video and for giving me the boost I need to celebrate Summerween!
I love the foggy rainy vibes, the coastal coziness, and literally everything else going on here…. The cafe scene is something out of a dream… and the music was absolutely perfect. Thank you for this artful mini film…I loved it! 🩵🧡 Amber
I put myself in "do not disturb" mode whenever I go to watch one of your videos. Full screen, snacks ready, no interruptions. Your videos just make me so happy that I am sad whenever I make it to the end and realise I have finished another incredible escapism journey into your world. Thank you for shining your light on the world, you make such a huge difference in encouraging an "Anne Shirly" vibe and outlook at life. My heart fills with joy with you. Thank you ever so much. xx🥰
Your videos give me so much peace. I suffer from panic disorder and watching your videos actually helps me because my brain is so focused on what you’re doing and your videos are so aesthetically pleasing that it actually helps me from having any anxiety.
Desi, I’m so excited for fall this year! For some reason, ever since I found your UA-cam channel a few years ago, I’ve been able to really appreciate the seasons a lot more and your videos always make me look forward to the ever changing seasons!! 🍂🧡
I loved Mary Downing Hahn's writing! I read Wait Til Helen Comes as a 5th grader and I STILL adore it and feel the creepy vibes 37 years later!!! I am just now getting around to reading more of her work and while it is in the 'juvenile' section of my library, something about her style stays with me after each book I read! And you're right, sometimes I like the YA stories better- they don't have to rely on gore or sex- they utilize more potent storytelling and that's what I'm here for! Thank you for one of the best videos ever. You really outdid yourself!!
I totally agree with you about spooky middle grade books! I’m definitely want to read more Mary Downing Hahn books so I think I’ll definitely pick that one up next!
Mary Downing Hahn and Betty Ren Wright (The Dollhouse Murders) were both elementary school favs of mine too! For some reason I always associate them with Summer, bc I can remember coming in after playing outside in the sun all day, taking a bath and climbing between cool, crisp sheets to snuggle up with these ghost stories (or reading them on family trips) ✨️ As I got a bit older, I also really enjoyed the Fear Street books and LJ Smith books (early 90s when they had all just came out).
desi, you are a true mind reader!!!!! i’ve been in SUCH a fall mood recently but it’s hard to go along with it bcuz i live in toronto rn & its so muggy and hot😩
If you haven’t read Kate Morton yet, I feel confident you’d adore her. One of her biggest influences is du Maurier, and she loves to tell stories about the layers of time in grand old houses. Not fully spooky, but definitely mysterious with her “why dunnit” motifs. My personal favorite is The Clockmaker’s Daughter (audiobook read by “Anna” of Downton Abbey is *chef’s kiss*), but The Forgotten Garden is the perfect grown-up story for lovers of The Secret Garden.
OMG! I'm so glad you brought up The Forgotten Garden. It's only of my favorite books, I recommened it to everyone. I'm glad you hear you like The Clockmaker's Daughter, it's on my To Read List. I'm looking forward to it now!
One of the many things I love about this video is how you made of the rainy weather an opportunity. I have seen so many people on the social media, and in real life, complaining about the "bad" summer days, when it's not sunny enough to spend the day at the pool, or when it rains in the afternoon and they can't spend the entire day outside ; as if summer could only be enjoyed in a specific and mainstream way. But you, instead of waiting for the perfect day, you found a way the turn every day into your perfect day. For me that's a kind of magic.
I just wanted to add: I saw the note about filming this in one day and wanted to let you know that, in my opinion, this video was just as beautiful as all of your other videos!
Ooo I used to love reading Mary Downing Hahn! It’s been awhile, but my old spooky favorites were “The Old Willis Place,” “Wait Til Helen Comes,” and “The Doll in the Garden”. Recently bought a book called “Help the Witch” and I think it’s a modern take on old folk stories, but I haven’t read it yet. Love the spooky vibes!
First off, the instrumental Ivy playing in the background was SO perfect and beautiful. Second, the coastal life fits you so well!! You look like you are thriving :)
Omg! Yes Mary Downing Hahn!! There’s a book I read a long time ago.. wait til Helen comes.. that’s a ghost story too. I love it so much! That’s why I got into spooky books❤
Burn Our Bodies Down is the BEST spooky summer book Ive read so far. YA, creepy small town, complicated mother daughter relationships, twisty turny, world building, unexpected ending. Loved it
I’m dying- the aesthetics of this video are perfect ❤ I’m reading the Only One Left right now too and that foggy misty weather was literally how I was imagining the book being! Jared’s “well that’s heart warming” comment had me rolling 😂 lol
Another masterpiece of a video ❤ wow watching people read is truly contagious to me. Off to go read in bed and not scroll on my phone for longer than I should 📚❤🍂🎃
Hey Desi! I want to recommend you a book called Neverworld Wake. It’s set during a rainy day in Rhode Island and I think it gives the spooky summer feeling you’re looking for 🫶🏻
I was in this exact mood as well! I feel like decorating my home with dried flowers and fake pumpkins mixed in, really pushes the spooky summer. I’ll probably hold off on pumpkin scents and go for more musky smells. I love watching all your summer videos (and rewatching) throughout the summer time. It’s like a immersive mood board.
I love the instrumental Ivy music that you added. So perfect. I have been feeling a bit autumnal since returning to England from the warm California desert… I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets season feelings!
You had me at gothic mansion and spooky vibes! This was a perfect day and now I want to go buy watercolors and a little book even though I can’t paint! I’ve been watching for quite some time now and I believe this is my favorite video ever!! Thank you 🧡🥰
your videos are literally my safe space! i always feel like if im not constantly working i will fail but your videos always remind me to slow down and just enjoy the small things like a rainy/foggy spooky summer day 🧡
These are my absolute favorite days! Rainy summer days give me the delicious combination feeling of “back to school” excitement and anticipation, but still mixed with permission to rest and take it slow. Also recently heard some crows and felt that “glimmer”!
I’ve said this before in a comment but I do want to reiterate that you guys so sweetly and naturally and joyfully live child free. It’s rare to see that without it being the topic of the channel. And I could be wrong about the plan for that but jsut the vibe I get. And it’s really impactful and inspiring for me 🥰🤍
❤I am new to your channel. I am 60 year old lady. I have been married to my husband 36-years. We live on a farm in Middle Tennessee. I love watching your channel. I suffer with Fibromyalgia, so I understand a lot of the things you experience. You need to watch Dark Shadows from the beginning. The original show! I loved coming home and watching this show, and I still do.
🍁🍂🎃 This past week I've started an Autumn 2023 Pinterest board, bought an autumn color quilt from the thrift store, and have been going through autumn cookbooks. This is perfect timing! I thought I was the only one, kindred spirit! ❤
Autumn is and will be forever my favorit Season 🍁🍂
Same
I could have October for 6 months and be happy
Me too!
Mine is spring! 🌼🌷🌸 But I love fall as well. 🍁🎃☔
So true❤❤
I find beauty in summer...the fresh berries, lightning bugs, and thunderstorms but every year just gets unbearably hotter and hotter. Now, for me, summer is basically a countdown to autumn.
That is how I'm feeling now. Lol.
This is the first time in my life that I'm craving autumn and Christmas. And I HATE winter
Yes, it’s so so unbearably hot now.
Just love what's being said by you. So inviting. Cozy & comfy.😊😊😊😊😊😊
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS READY FOR FALL. I’ve been watching your old fall videos
Same! On repeat!

I have been ready for fall for several weeks.
hahahahahaha same
It is NEVER too early to start dreaming of fall!!!🧡🍁🍂🎃
You’re speaking my language 🥰
AMEN

Oh, yeah. THIS is peak Desi! Romanticized adventures in scenic locations, new book recommendations, themed food, an art project. All our favorites.
I’m so so happy!!! I honestly didn’t love this video when I was editing it but by the end I realized this had become one of my favorite videos 🥹🤍
The peace I feel watching your videos is immense, I never want them to end.
Same here. The love I have for Darling Desi’s videos is almost supernatural.
That message on the grave marker wasn't sinister. It was a gentle warning / reminder not to take life and people for granted. From dust we are and to dust we will return. Love the coastal, foggy scenes. Breathtaking! 💙
I'm so happy to see that I am not the only one doing this!!

“Pirates don’t care if shoes get wet” 🥺 such beautiful imagination and inner child goodness
You have the remarkable ability of being able to curate music that fits the exact mood! The vibes are spectacular, Desi!
Yes!!! The Ludovico Enaudi piece is so perfect!
Thank you so much for saying that 🥹💕
Can anyone save me and let me know the name of the piano piece that starts playing @0:35?

I have always gotten seasonal depression in the summer and no one could understand why. Now, as an adult, I keep the vibe of my house autumn all year except for Christmas. It has really helped. 🧡
I'm the same. I keep my house fall except christmas also😊
same, autumn is my favourite season too (also birth month of my friends and family love everything about it!) :)
Movies set in autumn or winter actually cool me down in summer.
Woke up after a restless night and saw this!! Thank you for helping us navigate the rainy summer! Lots of love from Finland!❤

"Birds" is a perfect movie for this vibe! love your videos
Just yesterday I was telling my fiancé that I love the summer but I’m secretly wishing for fall already! Lol so this vid is perfect!
This is my favorite setting for a thriller or horror book. A seaside town with the cliffs, lighthouse, and maybe an old mansion.

The classical music you used during the tour of the mansion is something I didn’t know I needed. Thank you 🙏🏾
desi, you are a true mind reader!!!!! i’ve been in SUCH a fall mood recently but it’s hard to go along with it bcuz i live in toronto rn & its so muggy and hot😩
This episode was speaking to my soul! Kindred spirits! Love it!
If you haven’t read Kate Morton yet, I feel confident you’d adore her. One of her biggest influences is du Maurier, and she loves to tell stories about the layers of time in grand old houses. Not fully spooky, but definitely mysterious with her “why dunnit” motifs. My personal favorite is The Clockmaker’s Daughter (audiobook read by “Anna” of Downton Abbey is *chef’s kiss*), but The Forgotten Garden is the perfect grown-up story for lovers of The Secret Garden.
theY are both so good! have you read her newest book? ive recently got it but havent read it yet
@@MatildaTheBookDragon Yes, I have! It definitely had some moments that set it apart from the others. I hope you enjoy it!
OMG! I'm so glad you brought up The Forgotten Garden. It's only of my favorite books, I recommened it to everyone. I'm glad you hear you like The Clockmaker's Daughter, it's on my To Read List. I'm looking forward to it now!
@@ninahoward6066 I'm reading it now! Really interesting 🥰🥰
You’ll have to let me know if you figured it out before the end. I was *almost* right, hahaha…
September / October can't come soon enough like bring on the autumnal everything. I can't wait to see this video. Thank you Desi and God bless you.
Ohh I'll have to check out Help the Witch, as I love folk horror!
I love love love Mary Downing Hahn’s book. I read The Old Willis Place in middle school and I still think about it ALL the time.
Absolutely love these summerween vibes! I wonder if that beautiful nightgown was vintage?
Spooky summer vibes instantly makes me think of Goosebumps. There was just nothing like reading the books and watching the show as a kid.
"TheFinal Girls" starring Nina dobrev and Malin Ackerman is my go to summer thriller movie. Over the top cliché but it hits the spot.👌
Waiting for fall!! Your videos bring me peace and just make me feel like everything in life will be okay .
Don't know if you already know the "Aveline Jones" Series. But part 1 is exactly that cozy small town vibes spooky story that you might enjoy 😊
Omg I am so going to watch this today!!!!!
I hope you enjoy it!! 🥰
@@DarlingDesi ABSOLUTELY! I was so in the fall mood the past week so this was the best present for the beginning of my week. Thank you! ❤️
I just adore your videos, I never wish them to end!
Another masterpiece of a video ❤ wow watching people read is truly contagious to me. Off to go read in bed and not scroll on my phone for longer than I should 📚❤🍂🎃
If I inspire you to do anything, romanticizing reading is it! And thank you for your kind words about the video 🥹🫶🏻
I also get excited about summer BECAUSE it leads to autumn! ❤ Love to see my people here in such large numbers.
I wish i could be in a cold country
It’s not so fun when it’s freezing cold 9 months out of the year 🥶
@@DarlingDesi oh trust me my dear i Really prefer that, in summer i dont go out at all and its a fact
@@DarlingDesi i have two huskys soo i have to live in a cold country
Gosh, that's so good misty and foggy, just like "When Marine was here" style. Amazing 💙🌊🐚
Hey Desi! I want to recommend you a book called Neverworld Wake. It’s set during a rainy day in Rhode Island and I think it gives the spooky summer feeling you’re looking for 🫶🏻
Okay that sounds AMAZING!! 😍 Going to look it up right now!
I absolutely adore how much of an adventure you make life, it's so inspiring and makes me feel magical and full of possibility❤
Every shot in this video is so beautiful! I love how you try to appreciate all types of weather and seasons in life.
I love fall! My favorite season. And I absolutely loved The Only One Left.
I am so here for this. I am not a summer gal by any means and keep longing for cool evenings and big sweaters
I’ve said this before in a comment but I do want to reiterate that you guys so sweetly and naturally and joyfully live child free. It’s rare to see that without it being the topic of the channel. And I could be wrong about the plan for that but jsut the vibe I get. And it’s really impactful and inspiring for me 🥰🤍
Not the only one! There’s something about the angle of the setting Sun here in Texas that feels like Fall. It’s….. so hot but it’s there. ❤️
It’s SummerWeen!!! I love that!!! 😭🥹🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🧡🧡🧡🍄🍄😎😎
