I forgot to mention the frame and the thickness of the metal, Mahindra uses. I like the fact it is built "beefier" than others.

the MCRD is basically (from what i've heard) a glorified Catalyst, and you don't have to engineer an engine to run without DPF/DEF but you do have to engineer an engine to run with it.

on the main component parts its also the quality of steel that matters, and I've heard very mixed reviews. And some say specifically that the much of steel is low quality

I have the 4550 and use it like you. Very well built tractor, I went from shuttle shift to this gear shift style because of reliability down the road. I grew up on gear tractors, if you constantly used loader as dairy farm and such the shuttle is awesome. It pulls my two 16” plows with ease. I researched a lot before I selected Mahindra, don’t pay extra for a color or brand that it self is made cheap. Keep up the great videos.

If you’re doing any brush clearing, I highly recommend a Piranha Tooth Bar. It will make that bucket so much more useful. I got one for my 4550 and it fit like a glove and I could not be happier with it. Made me love my tractor even more.

Personally I prefer the 2wd axle design because you don't have to worry about destroying the steering gear, also the "brush guard" on the 5500 is really just a *massive* steel bar across the lower/middle part of the grill.

I think you hit on the key thing, a good dealer can make or break your tractor experience. There are many good tractors out there (just like the old Ford vs Chevy debate), but the dealer can determine if your tractor ownership will be a positive or negative experience.
I agree on the brush guard. My Kubota suffers from the same issue, you would think that they would design them to prevent sticks and such from getting by them.
I do like the HST. My dad was pointing out how nice his gear shift tractor is when mowing, until he realized that my tractor came with cruise control, so I can set it and the tractor will maintain the speed and I don't have to keep my foot on the pedal.

Good video. This is the Tractor I am considering. Why? Because of price and power. Right at 2,900 lbs loader lift. 3,500 3 pt. Lift. I don't know of another Tractor with this strength that can touch it especially in price. However there are simple things they should address from the factory. So simple like tighten down all the nuts and bolts. Do your job! Take pride in your work. Listen to your clients like you Hank! Put a stronger steel guard in front of the steering component. Make the armrests more durable and finally do your warranty work. Honor it. Mahindra is close to being a Tractor Company that consumers can have more confidence in. Thanks for taking the time to make this video

Say what you want about Mahindra's quality, we have 2 Mahindra 5500s (an '03 and an '07) and the only issue we've ever had that wasn't us beating the ever living crap out of them was a hydraulic leak on the '03 when it was new. The '07 has a loader which is a really well made loader. While I can't reccomend a new Mahindra as I have not had experience with them I *DO* highly reccomend the 5500.

His video did a lot of damage to the Mahindra brand. I have an awesome dealer. I didn't let one video determine what I was buying. They're hundreds of videos bashing every brand out there. Tractor brands are really a hot topic. I had a very detailed talk with dealers from several brands and felt like some were better than others. Chuck's video could have easily been on orange tractors or green tractors. I have 165 hours on mine now and still love it. The only issues I have had with mine are ones I created. But, at the end of the day, it's your money and your decision. Buy what is best for you and your situation.

I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on a 4540. I have contemplated the standard trans over and over. This is a lifetime purchase for me and I don’t want to regret getting a standard trans versus a shuttle shift. I don’t really know if it will matter to me down the road, but the comforts of a shuttle shift, foot space on the floor and access from either side of the tractor seem appealing. However, those things cost money. Is is worth it? Or will it matter to me? I appreciate your videos and it’s helped me in my consideration of the 4540. Now if I can figure a way to claim the tractor as an expense and get some kind of tax benefit....

    • @patrickgrindle259

David, I purchased a 2018 - 5545, Awesome Tractor and I would not purchase the 4550 with Standard Shift. I've owned an International 574 with Shuttle Shift for years. Awesome Tractor just wore it out and needed a front loader. The Mahindra 5500 series is basically the same tractor.

Good afternoon Hank. Just wanted to know your thoughts about Messicks doing a review on the Mahindra 4550. Also much less to go wrong without all the computers and modules. Thanks. Mark.

Hey buddy, good vid. I almost pulled the trigger on the 4550. I think it is a beautiful tractor, and I like the old school look. I changed my mind for several reasons and went with the Kubota. But I do have one question, I heard you cant run thru the gears without grinding. What has been your experience with that?

    • @HamiltonvilleFarm
      @HamiltonvilleFarm  5 років тому +2

Yes, when I first got the tractor I grinded the gears a lot. But as I learned where the "sweet spot" was the grinding got less. I found 1st to 2nd does fine. 2nd to 3rd I still grind some 3rd to 4th does fine. Not sure I ever got to 5th. Lol. My place is pretty bumpy. I still will grind them, but no where close to like it was when I got it. Hope this answers your question.

Best buy is a computer/electronics chain. They sale, computers, TV's,stereos , etc. Not sure how prices compare from US models to European models especially with the exchange rate. In the US a new 40 hp tractor can cost anywhere between $17k-$40k USD depending on what you get and what accessories you buy. Good luck in Italy.

I've Got an Emax22. I bought it to do small jobs on a construction site. I am EXTREEMLY disappointed with the machine. For starters, there is no Harmonic Balancer on the Three cylinder engine. EVERY SINGLE plastic component on the tractor has broken from its mounts due to excessive vibration. The electrical system was run as an after thought with wires being pinched between frame parts and add on's. I have had no less than five direct shorts to ground from the vibration. Twice the tractor wiring started smoking and it was only quick thinking that prevented it from burning up. ( My Bad, should have let it go). Gear Box rebuilt once by Mahindra because the shift would not engage. (Bad Gear set). Blown Wheel seals and I'm just not going into the Hydraulics. Took it to the Mahindra dealer many times, They repaired the electrical issues while it was under its 24month warranty period. Since then, it's been "we know its a bad design, and it sucks to be you". Implements are too light in construction for the tractor. The bucket is simply something for your kids Tonka toy. Mahindra says I'm too hard on it? Their opinion is the machine was designed for a small Horse farm and about the only think its suitable for is loading horse and chicken S%#t. There, I've vented. Now I'm going to go buy a 1972 Massy 135.

Sorry you got a bad machine. I've been very happy with my 4540. Best of luck with your Massey. Hope it serves you well. Those old tractors really run strong.

I think maybe the key word it "Older" . Maybe should have bought an older unit and not something new. It would have proved itself and those engines can run forever.@@HamiltonvilleFarm

We just bought this 65 acres and I am shopping for a tractor. I really like the 4540 but I'm seeing some owners are having a range of mechanical issues. Are you having fuel line, oil leaks, loose hardware or any mechanical issues?

45XX tractors are made in India.
XX10, 25XX, 26XX, and some others ones are made in South Korea by TYM.
Indian Iron is crude and reliable.

I will say it has been a great tractor thank god. I have been to 3 dealers since i bought it. Have had to do all the service myself even my 50 hour service. I called the dealer where i bought it week after i bought it and ask where the oil cap was and he said they were no longer selling mahindra tractors and hung up. Thankfully youtube and a little reading has got me yo 450 hours about to do full service to it in july. 2nd dealer wouldnt call me back on a warranty issue. Third dealer was a total dick cause i didnt buy it there and said if he serviced it he was gonna check all the fluids and filters and if it didnt have mahibdra fluids and filters he have my warranty voided funny thing is i just went there to get fluuds and filters. Wtf

Hambone and Idol actually no it doesn’t. I’m a third generation fruit grower. We own three large fruit farms in Ontario Canada. Compare your tractor to our oldest John Deere 1140 2140 and our newer 5100ml and 5175 gl. We have a total of 9 Deere’s. Our oldest 1140 and 2140 are in your class and e en though they are older tractors there is no comparison engine transmission hydraulics. That mahindra loader is far from heavy duty compared to the John Deere we ag loaders we use. We run our tractors 10 -12 hours a day try working yours like that and see how you make out. There is a saying you get what you pay for. I’ve paid a hell of a lot more but get a hell of a lot more.

John Deere used to be a badass tractor now they cut cost in every way possible, no way I would ever buy a tractor with a cast aluminum rear chunk, and yes Mahindras have no problem running all day everyday and without needing to regen...do your research

    • @bobivanski5635

Kenneth Macaluso actually there is no cast aluminum rear ends an any of the ag tractors we own. 🙂

Bob, it's built much like the International 574, from the 70's to the 80's which makes it a workhorse of a tractor. Don't give me Plastic hoods and Aluminum parts. I prefer the rugged Mahindra Tractor. It's true they are not made like many of the newer small work tractors they are made better. John Deer on their smaller tractors (18 to 40 hp) have gone to an aluminum gear boxes. If you want the upgrade to cast, you will really have to come out of pocket with the JD. - Simple research will prove this. / JD has always produced great products but not so much in their newer economy smaller class of tractors. In my opinion they Still hold the record for best "Lawn Tractors & Zero Turns" I wouldn't buy anything else. --- But before you trash talk the Mahindra be sure that you've given them a fair comparison. Often it comes down to personal preference, but before buying the Mahindra 5545 I now own, I did a lot of research and for the price, the Mahindra won hands down. A JD and Kobota of similar quality cost 5000 plus dollars more, plus you have to contend with the DEF systems where as you do not have to on the Mahindra. -- Don't get me wrong I love a JD and Kobota but not 5000 more for the same quality.
