Hank, Teach your granddaughters to always hook up and tighten positive cable first, That way there’s no way to accidentally make a spark! Enjoy your videos from central Fl.
You know Hank it's the younger generation wanting to learn makes a difference in the world today's world. That's just completely awesome to see that my friend.
Make yourself a note: When pulling(or pushing) to start, put the vehicle in the highest gear it has. The low gear make power when being turned by the engine, but when trying to turn the engine it works backwards and 2 pounds of compression will slide the wheels. If you put the clutch pedal down with the tractor being pulled in low gear, the clutch disk may be turning 4000 rpm and will sling off the cutch material.
it is so amazing that you and your granddaughter are so close and working together. I wish i could see mine more often and was able to work like this with them. We all love to go fishing for trout and that is always an amazing day for us. They will learn so much from this and remember it always
The fuel rack is stuck wide open that's why you can't throttle it down. Also there needs to be oil in the injection pump for lubrication. If there is not it will damage the pump very quickly. Same oil you put in the crank case. The rack is behind the cover that says SIMMS on it. Spray it down with PB BLASTER and work it back and forth till its freed up.
Awesome video Hank!! you and the girls make a great team!! and y'all are making good memories! so cool to see that tractor start after sitting for so many year's!! And move!!
He he. Takes me back to life on a farm. We used to tap the solenoid. No choke on a diesel. The little lever looking like a choke is normally the kill lever. Oh and pull start. It resisted to much. I would think a higher gear. I’m not too sure, not being there. It’s always easier to sit on the sidelines judging. Not trying to teach you as you have allot of knowledge around these old machines. Good job on not giving up and finding the solution. 🔧
whoa hank, we had this talk before. you must energize the solenoid on the started to pull in the plunger. that sends the current to the windings. there is no ground on the switch. that is a control devise, you only need a ground on a load devise. in automotive the chassis is the ground. that is why a battery terminal is connected to it. supply a b+ current to the s terminal of the solenoid with your jumper, and the plunger will pull in sending current to the starter windings
He wants to teach them but they wont learn if they dont want to!.. and watching them 2 i can't be the only 1 that sees that they have no interest in what his teaching them like they have better "cooler" things to go do... 😅
Quick tip look at the back of the solenoid by the small terminal and look for a S on the plastic and for a diesel they should only have a single wire about a 14 gauge wire to engage the starter
Amazingly he never thinks to push in the clutch on tractors or trucks when they won't spin over which both usually have safety circuits. Tractors usually have to be in neutral with PTO disengaged
On the right running board on the back of your heel is the brake block. You press the brakes pull the latch up and twist it to lock it. The lever you thought was the PTO is for the hydraulics and then below the lift there’s a little lever it’s in the horizontal position right now, but that’s your draft control for your lift arms.
The injector pump on this one is probably a vacuum pump. There is a plunger in them that can get stuck which will make it run max RPM. I had that happen and took the front of pump apart to free plunger and clean it. That may be why it is running high. Anyway, cool video and nice old tractor. Keep putting those videos out, I love em!!!!!!!!!!!!
We love you Hank, you're a great guy, and a great granddaddy to those girls (young women, sorry ladies!), that thing that moves the starter pinion out into the teeth of the flywheel is the "bendix", which needs some love. That should energize and come out at the same time when the solenoid gets power, if the starter is wired correctly, you were doing it right. Dub and Zee, you are beautiful 🙂
Make sure they shut off cable is pushed in. It’s below the throttle handle. Turn ignition key on pull throttle wide-open put it in high gear. High range hook the truck to it pull that thing off and crank it.
Make sure to tell the girls that while tightening the battery clamps to make sure not to short out the positive terminal to the tractor body with the wrench I noticed this almost happened.
@@HamiltonvilleFarmI am from India. I have a Ford3600 tractor. I love tractors very much. I saw your video and liked it very much. You repaired such an old tractor.
Love when your granddaughters are on they are so funny when they understand you praise them good for you that’s our job keep up the good shows it’s all about the process with the good times with the girls. They will never forget don’t matter if it started that’s would just be a plus if they were there god bless
Bolt the starter back on and use the Spade connection closest to the motor to make the starter engage. From what I can tell it looks like the starter Bendix may need to be cleaned up is trying to come out but it's not coming out all the way
Fantastic! I like seeing old machines like that brought back to life. There is another channel i watch, Cog Hill Farm, where Jason got his granddaddy’s old Ford 8N running a few weeks ago. It needed a bit of work but it’s a thing of beauty😊.
Blind leading the blind. ALWAYS hook up the positive lead FIRST on a negative ground system. I believe the lever you indicated as the PTO is actually the remote hydraulic cylinder control. Buy an owners manual.
@FL.AirBoater 1 month ago New viewer here 93rd or 4th video). Your granddaughters are adorable. But you really need to Teach them to always hook up and tighten positive cable first for their protection/safety.
I did make a comment before you made yours, but I deleted it because I felt it might have been taken wrong. When I heard that noise from the solenoid I knew, it wasn't coming out. I can't tell you how many of them in cars etc. that I changed for years and I just turned 81. But I'm happy you got it running. When I bought the tractors I rebuilt, most of them came from Lancaster, PA in a field of weed, etc. I lived in South NJ at the time.
Bring back memories please before you sit on a tractor that has been sitting look under the seat for bee nest they lit me up I was a athlete I instantly cleared that tractor I was moving so fast because only one stung me on the ear ouch it hurt
🔧🛠️🔧🛠️🔧. Hello Hank,Dub &! Zee. I remember the 3000 Ford tractors very well.,The farm where I lived as a kid in the early to late 1970s had a 1970 Ford 300 gasoline that was a great all around tractor. We mostly used the Ford 3000 tractor with a C80 Woods pull behind mower and to spread manure from the thoroughbred broodmares and foals with a New Holland manure spreader. That tractor was great for doing just about anything you wanted to do on a farm. But I absolutely despised how the clutch pedal seemed to stick straight up which made it very difficult to let out easily on the clutch without lunging forwards. My dad and his friend used to fuss at me quite a bit when we were loading tobacco onto the wagons which is the very last place that you want a lunging tractor. Unfortunately when the owner of the farm sold the property, He let the tractor go with the farm much to our disgust. Ford really improved the later versions of their tractors when they started using the shuttle shifters.
Love the grandchildren. Please remind them that working on cars and tractors.... Getting a finger ring across 12 and ground will turn their ring red hot. I've seen some nasty movies on safety. It can cook to the bone. And it is super fast. Gold and Silver conducts very high currents. Safety first - heavy black gloves are best if rings can't come off. Safety first.

Yep I been laughing at this. We've got a tractor just like this one. Let it sit for 3 years at a time and she fires right up.
