It looks like a solid Tractor to me. Yes Tractors have come a long way in 50 years with technology but like few other folks have said this kind of Tractor fed the World for 100 years. We've gotten spoiled. We want everything fast, simple with least amount of effort. I would buy this before spending 40 grand on something else. Good review but I'm old School. I'd just soon find a gear, clutch and go to work and enjoy the day The good Lord has given me.
i love old school the newest tractor we have is a little hasqvarna lawn tractor my grandfather got for small tight places when the old was down. otherwise everthing is like 80s and back
I like oldschool technology. The problem with Mahindra is in the emissions systems to sell equipment in north America making that tractor kind of a hybrid and the warranty from the dealer. If you have... when you have electrical and emissions the dealers are useless and the warranty will not protect the owner after buying a new tractor
maybe somewhat, but not dramatically. Most of the expense in any of those repairs is from splitting the tractor. The labor costs typically make up most of the repair, not the parts.
Brother, they’re basic basic. But a lot of guys don’t need more than that and don’t have the cash for orange, red or green. As a kid we baled with a Allis-Chalmers WD45. Cut, raked and put up 5-6000 bales every year. Oh, gas engine.
I'm not a special pleader for mahindra tractors, but I have an International harvester B414 Diesel, the tractor this 4550 mahindra is based on, and a tougher tractor you will not find. Primative, yes, but tough as nails and dependable. Downshifting is difficult, but there is a technique for shifting from 3rd to 4th without grinding...just like an old farmall for that matter. That said, I despise the geometry of the mahindra clutch pedal.
I wouldn't. My neighbor bought one because it was in the same price point as my Kubota with a bigger HP and lift range. Well, fast forward a year and his tractor has been back to the dealer six times now. He has blown cylinders so many times that I have lost count. I think it may be five or six at this point. And, yes, he has had a hell of a time with the dealer covering this.

Yeah, I think the mechanical parts of this tractor are fairly solid, it is the electronic parts that are junk. I think the older mahindras from the 90s that more closely resembled their IH predecessors were much better with improved direct fuel injection and better hydraulics than the older IH B-series tractors.
The fit and finish, as well as electrical are terrible on them. They shipped an entire run or more with not necessarily bad but wrong temperature sensors.
I love watching these videos. The guy knows that this tractor is a 1960s design. Yet he keeps comparing every feature to a modern day tractor. How entertaining.
The Tractor market has changed a lot in the past 4 decades . Expectations are high the major manufactures have been successful in all but one one category that sometimes escapes buyers and that is cost of ownership. Tier 4 tractors are a game changer. The cost of maintaining the systems are for the most part unknown but it does not look good. I do know truckers that have had emission trouble are crying the blues spending a lot of money. Now the farmers are in a no win situation they have no choice other than going to the big players for field tractors but smaller operators who farm part time at close to zero risk have a choice. So we have a market for tractors we owners can fix. I have worked on a larger 4 year old Mahindra tractor on a minor issue and it was very well made heavy and over sized where it mattered. It was not hard to troubleshoot and parts were reasonable. Here is my advise to anyone buying one of these if you are willing to service these tractors and do some minor repairs you will be ok. If you do not own a set of wrenches or do not like using them do not buy one. I like servicing my machines so I am going to buy a mpower 75 this spring and I can tell you what I have been quoted in my area makes it a lot cheaper than a kabota like over 10 grand for the same features and hp. Kobota is a fine tractor much better fit and finish but I am not sure I can afford the cost of ownership on a modern t4 design. My income is more in the 3rd world price range.
Amen to that brother, a lot of people have champagne taste with a beer income, and for them this machine might just be the ticket. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I needed that big of a tractor.

Fun times! I know how to shift like that, learned it driving rig in AZ when I was 20, tried to get a job as a trucker in college only to have companies tell me I had to be 21 for insurance! I miss driving that rig!

Theres a "crash box" in that. You can change gears without the clutch or double clutching. Ya dont go smooth with a crash box. Slam it into gear, if you cant find it you grind it. Just saying, youre comparing a crash box to a synchromesh. A crash box wont have synchros thatll wear out. You keep grinding for years until you find nothing. As an example, in work i drive a MF 135 every day. Engine was rebuilt once, transmission has never been apart. All the gears still work
Hmmm......I have a 2011 Mahindra 4035 which looks nothing like this....what year is this one? The loader was made in the US with the rest of the tractor from India. It is a heavy machine which is great as our property is hilly, and the 4 WD functions well. The 40 HP is the strongest I have ever been on...it is almost like a 50 HP....I have dug out a farm pond with it and carried many loads of gravel, pulled baler, brush hog and carry two round bales without any problem. The joy stick looks nothing like this one...it has multi function capability of fast unload etc. It has gears, but they are by a shifter on the right side which is not on the floor . The clutch is on the left and forward reverse is column mounter shifter on the left of the steering wheel....I like this rather than heel toe for HST. Brakes are on the right .....The 4550 you have in the video certainly does not look like any I saw on the dealer lot. My machine has a great skid attachment system on the loader...so easy to change the bucket to a spear attachment for round bales. The main complaint I have with the tractor is it is difficult to get to the drain plug for the tank due to the loader attachment, and I would like the lift arms to lift a bit higher at times. All the newer tractors with platforms just make access to parts of the tractor hard. The other problem Mahindra had was fuel lines that would crack...I have had to replace a couple lines, but I hear this is a problem with other brands as well. The local diesel (large truck) repair center told me they have had to replace many hydraulic hoses etc with all tractor brands..........
Suddenly the 1964 Farmall 806 my cousin and I use seems like a more advanced machine. Open floor, easily accessible controls, and built like a tank. Granted it's in a different category than this, however for the price an old IH would be a much better choice.
In India, people depend on this kind of tractor for their livelihood! It's not like in the US, where farmers have at least a few tractors to choose from. In India, most of them have just one tractor to do all the jobs and it's not like they can get a new one every 5-6 years. A tractor has to survive at least 15-20 years and it has to be simple to fix with basic tools! To build a name as tractor manufacturer in that kind of market is very difficult!
14:30 tractor isn't complex so why is that a problem. Is someone just sad that a company understands people and are taking the dealership out of the conversation by not using modern technology? I see nothing wrong with this tractor and definitely might consider it over your "higher quality" tractors you sell
I think the Mahindra that are made by someone else but has the awesome no PTF filter engine are a bit different. Just saying that I am pretty sure that they have tractors with more modern options but still has really good performance. I think this guys review would be more believable if he anything positive to say. For example, it lifts a whole bunch more both front and back.
Its all a matter of perspective. If your looking for a once in a while chore tractor simplicity is amazing. New highly electronic dependent tractors are more prone to failures in long sitting. Being from part failure to rodents. Some people just need enough to get a job done and nothing more.
Yea, except this is not a simple electronics free tractor. Its engine has all the same stuff as a modern machine, it has to in order to meet emissions standards. Where its simple is in the mechanical design, ergonomics, etc. Dry transmissions like are in this tractor are very promastic from long term sitting, vs a wet clutch in a newer machine. If what you want is that simple once every few months chore tractors, you probably could buy a machine from the 60's or 70's and be in a better place than this machine would put you.
Messick Farm Equipment True but its minimalistic. As said it’s hard to compare to anything out there. Not that I would own one. But the weaknesses pointed out are great for keeping cost down. For the occasional use why spend a lot extra if your not going to need it. Some people may not be inclined enough to care for an older tractor as they wear down. Thats the niche these fill.
@@hunterharrell7491 its has a DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst). Its nearly the same as a DPF but its in a continuous burn rather than cycling every 30-40 hours.
While shopping for a large compact / small utility tractor, I briefly considered a Mahindra. After just a little research, I quickly scratched them off the list. Now I'm struggling between the Kioti and Kubota.

Neil, could you please take another look at this product, I see lots of people going after this type of equipment when looking for raw utilitarian performance. Simplicity and function seems to the focus.
If simplicity and functionality was what it was about... then great. There are lots of tractors that are that and they fill a needed niche. Unfortunately this thing is really just a sloppy mess. Don't take my word for it, a quick look and you'll find a long line of people highly dissatisfied with this series.
I have to disagree with you on this tractor. This model is a great tractor. I know people that have them and I have ran them. No problems whatsoever. I grew up running old gear tractors and you can shift while driving you just have to know what you’re doing. It really shows that you’re just trying to make your brands look better while downing another. These tractors are meant to be bare bone work horses.
They are too bare-bones man. Nobody that works long hours is running to a Mahindra. Any self-respecting individual would rather choose a modern machine
I know it's super basic, but it will last forever. I'm not very confident in the longevity of these new plastic tractors from many popular brands. Plus none of the emissions crap that burns more fuel and needs constant repair.
it has all the emissions stuff. It was mandated on all diesel engines starting in 2014. I'd take issue with 'last forever'. A lot of the design, the transmission specifically, is vastly less durable than a modern tractor. That's on a brand that's universally known to have sketchy parts support.
No, it won't. My neighbor has one and it is a year old. It has been back to the dealer four or five times now. The dealer's guy have been to his yard twice. That's in one year. He has a terrible time trying to get them to cover anything. My Kubota has the same hours on it and has only seen the dealer for the first fluid change and checkup. Not an issue.
Could you get a transmission like this one in the Mahindra 4550. Put in a Kubota M5660 4x4? or what is the closest transmission that kubota has to this one?
I'm not aware of anyone making a unsynchronized, dry shuttle transmission any more. What's in the M5660 is simple, but far more advanced. You'd find the same from Deere, New Holland, Case, etc.
An old school machine that works like every other old machine that is still running right? Lets see the Farm I work has a 1066, White 2-150, 3000/4000 Fords, Cubs ans a 955 Cat that all run fantastic. Clearly new model junk that is made has note a chance of living up to the old school ease of maintenance..... This review is for the hobby farmer that does not have to have a machine right now on the job every day.
Come on, you don't need to stop from 2nd to the 3rd gear. Looks like you haven't driven a stick shift vehicles. Not the best tractor but ain't as bad or archaic as you explained.

Mahindra is the only tractor that the dealer I worked at had to warranty an engine on. Mahindra didn't make it easy either, they had to strip the bottom end completely and take pictures of every side of every component, if I remember correctly, several of the main bearings had heavy scoring, but there was no way to tell if it was caused by simply poorly made bearings or debris that was in the engine from manufacturing being sent down a gallery into the main bearings. I did a warranty on a TYM, I guess it wasn't the first time for that fella (tie-rod ends, range selector lever, battery terminals and the hydraulic cylinders had some corrosion so they had started to leak past the seals, if memory serves correctly) Now the only tractors that I recall ever selling from our dealer was these little toy Mahindras' and a Case 75A or something. People love a cheap tractor, but then live on a zero-profit hobby farm and have brand-new 1-tonnes for wife/husband/kids...
Silly question time: What;s up with the screen over the bucket?? I've seen them in some of your videos, but it never gets mentioned. Not defending this tractor, but old technology doesn't necessarily mean bad- all the electronic doo-dads we have on everything also adds costs and complexity. More things to go wrong, wear out, become obsolete in the future etc. You have to wonder if today's tractors will still be going strong in 40+ years, like an 8N or a 4020... (lol- that 4020 came with either a synchro trans or a powershift- in the 1960's! What's Mahindra's excuse??)
It wouldn't be my first choice to put a loader on, but still beats a hand shovel any day of the week. Bells and whistles are nice but my main concern is how does it pull... When you're working in a field you spend 99.9% of your time plodding forward under heavy load. As far as I'm concerned, as long as I can put the power to the ground, a simple geared transmission is preferable for fuel efficiency alone. Besides, I'd rather replace a clutch every now and then before a whole transmission. That being said, don't construe this for any kind of tractor buying advice. If you've got a small acreage and you want tractor that's going to have a bazillion random attachments for every conceivable task (except spending 16 hours a day tilling), then you're not going to like this at all.
So when you mentioned tym they're a great tractor company and Mitsubishi they make really quality equipment I've never had one single problem with it and over a thousand hours. And when you were explaining that tractor as being rather simplistic yes that's a good thing. The fact that it's classic tractor nothing else yeah I see that is a really really good thing because you have less stuff that you're going to have to work on. As far as when you said well it's going to need clutch jobs this is obviously not the ideal tractor for constant loader work but if you're just every now and then doing some loader work yeah I would do that this is a tractor that would primarily be best primarily best for pulling implements that are very heavy
Sometimes a traditional style tractor is perfectly fine, I’ve seen folks use old farmall h and I’ve been pulled by John Deere 4440 and 2355, they old and more traditional. I’ve driven a more modern mx6000 kuboter but it’s always good to support qtraditional styles. At least it ain’t a steam tractor?
and its a tractor not a car you pick the gear you want and stay in it you dont start in 1st and go through the gears so the clutch really wont burn up like you think
I totally get that Mahindra is laughably outdated, but they're trying to get up to modern standards. I know of countless campgrounds and facilities here in Michigan that run equipment from the 40's through the 70's, and that's OK (electronic ANYTHING causes downtime, and that costs money.) Some prefer old school, some prefer new school; there's always pros and cons. I know Mahindra IS trying as I live near their North American tech campus.
Kipling had one off these when he wrote The Jungle Book. You have no sense of adventure, lol. I've driven one if these and the workout you get shifting is significant. A Mike shifts much easier from forward to reverse.
I think there would be a market for a no frills compact tractor if the price point was attractive enough. We had a 1978 Ford 1600 that we used since new. It was still running good up until last year when a hired hand was using it to power an anger and ledt it idling. It developed a coolant leak and overheated. My brother and I used to make extra money with the tractor growing up taking jobs mowing, rototilling, blading driveways, and blowing snow for people so it saw lots of use. All the electronics and advanced features on modern tractors will be a maintenance nightmare down the road if you are looking to get decades of use like we did out of old Ford. There is a lot to be said about a manual gear box, basic controls and basic gauges. Chances are they will still be working decades later. Also if repairs are needed you can do them yourself.
This was my grandpa's favorite style of tractor (no rops). We live with steep terrain and that transmission scares the crap out of me. My Kubota HST definitely feels safer on hills.
I have a JD 2010 loader crawler it's 40's yrs old that thing is a beast ten tons bucket is self leveling and it's 40 plus yrs old I would not buy a new tractor there to cheap
there must be a language issue here...because you missed Neals point completely. Compared to newer (at least the last 30 yrs+ ) the Mahindra gearbox is very slow and archaic...plus in the operators way. He did miss one BIG point though...good luck getting anything done under warranty. They advertise a "7" yr warranty, but you will have problems getting even simple things taken care of.... even in the first year.....as they will find a way to deny manufacturers fault...instead blaming customer fault...usually. How they are still in business here is amazing
Sorry to say, but, I owned a Mahindra 4500 4WD...I wouldn't take one again if you gave it to me! Parts are very expensive. Glad to be rid of the albatross. Good review and right on.
My neighbor is coming to this conclusion. He has had nothing but trouble with it. Cylinders blowing and odd starts and stops while running the backhoe.
I have been operating tractors since I was 10. Been on Fords, Deere, Kubota, Case, International, NH and a Mahindra. I couldn’t name all the sizes and models. The one Mahindra was a 2016. Not sure of the model but it was around a 50hp tractor with cab and loader. A guy who we sold round hay bales to owned it. That was the biggest piece of $hit. It wouldn’t lift the bales, the cab shook , the shifter felt like I was going to break it. Everything just felt cheap. Even when you pushed the clutch, it felt weak, like a child’s toy. I barely got the bales off the trailer. You couldn’t give me one!

That's the reason I bought one, simple4550 Heavy ,unlike the competitors ,no internal hydraulic pump no DEF/Regen.

I run a old kubat from 1986 and it even has the old glideshift which I love, that non synchro trans will keep you from killing that loader, lol

George1mac a 4025 was pretty much revised to make this tractor. No idea what that difference is to the 4035.

In India, people depend on this kind of tractor for their livelihood! It's not like in the US, where farmers have at least a few tractors to choose from. In India, most of them have just one tractor to do all the jobs and it's not like they can get a new one every 5-6 years. A tractor has to survive at least 15-20 years and it has to be simple to fix with basic tools! To build a name as tractor manufacturer in that kind of market is very difficult!
Love your videos. Find someone who owns a model a Ford, and they'll teach you how to double clutch.

14:30 tractor isn't complex so why is that a problem. Is someone just sad that a company understands people and are taking the dealership out of the conversation by not using modern technology? learn how to float the gears and all you'll need the clutch for is moving from Neutral to Reverse or Neutral to First.

Yeah but the part they don't mention about DPF is they are injecting raw fuel to burn that soot and that dilutes the engine oil.

I think the Mahindra that are made by someone else but has the awesome no PTF filter engine are a bit different. Just saying that I am pretty sure that they have tractors with more modern options but still has really good performance.
I think this guys review would be more believable if he anything positive to say. For example, it lifts a whole bunch more both front and back.

Its all a matter of perspective. If your looking for a once in a while chore tractor simplicity is amazing. New highly electronic dependent tractors are more prone to failures in long sitting. Being from part failure to rodents. Some people just need enough to get a job done and nothing more.
Yea, except this is not a simple electronics free tractor. Its engine has all the same stuff as a modern machine, it has to in order to meet emissions standards. Where its simple is in the mechanical design, ergonomics, etc. Dry transmissions like are in this tractor are very promastic from long term sitting, vs a wet clutch in a newer machine. If what you want is that simple once every few months chore tractors, you probably could buy a machine from the 60's or 70's and be in a better place than this machine would put you.
Messick Farm Equipment True but its minimalistic. As said it’s hard to compare to anything out there. Not that I would own one. But the weaknesses pointed out are great for keeping cost down. For the occasional use why spend a lot extra if your not going to need it. Some people may not be inclined enough to care for an older tractor as they wear down. Thats the niche these fill.

@@hunterharrell7491 its has a DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst). Its nearly the same as a DPF but its in a continuous burn rather than cycling every 30-40 hours.

While shopping for a large compact / small utility tractor, I briefly considered a Mahindra. After just a little research, I quickly scratched them off the list. Now I'm struggling between the Kioti and Kubota.
Kuboter all the way unless you are looking for Deere. I suggest kuboter or Deere.

This seems to be more of a tractor built for mowing, or plowing type applications, where you aren't changing speeds or directions very frequently.

If simplicity and functionality was what it was about... then great. There are lots of tractors that are that and they fill a needed niche. Unfortunately this thing is really just a sloppy mess. Don't take my word for it, a quick look and you'll find a long line of people highly dissatisfied with this series.

I have to disagree with you on this tractor. This model is a great tractor. I know people that have them and I have ran them. No problems whatsoever. I grew up running old gear tractors and you can shift while driving you just have to know what you’re doing. It really shows that you’re just trying to make your brands look better while downing another. These tractors are meant to be bare bone work horses.
They are too bare-bones man. Nobody that works long hours is running to a Mahindra. Any self-respecting individual would rather choose a modern machine
I know it's super basic, but it will last forever. I'm not very confident in the longevity of these new plastic tractors from many popular brands. Plus none of the emissions crap that burns more fuel and needs constant repair.
it has all the emissions stuff. It was mandated on all diesel engines starting in 2014.
I'd take issue with 'last forever'. A lot of the design, the transmission specifically, is vastly less durable than a modern tractor. That's on a brand that's universally known to have sketchy parts support.
No, it won't. My neighbor has one and it is a year old. It has been back to the dealer four or five times now. The dealer's guy have been to his yard twice. That's in one year. He has a terrible time trying to get them to cover anything. My Kubota has the same hours on it and has only seen the dealer for the first fluid change and checkup. Not an issue.

Could you get a transmission like this one in the Mahindra 4550. Put in a Kubota M5660 4x4? or what is the closest transmission that kubota has to this one?
I'm not aware of anyone making a unsynchronized, dry shuttle transmission any more. What's in the M5660 is simple, but far more advanced. You'd find the same from Deere, New Holland, Case, etc.
I got a Ford 3000 i can shift going down the road with out grinding ... so does that mean its synchronized
An old school machine that works like every other old machine that is still running right? Lets see the Farm I work has a 1066, White 2-150, 3000/4000 Fords, Cubs ans a 955 Cat that all run fantastic. Clearly new model junk that is made has note a chance of living up to the old school ease of maintenance..... This review is for the hobby farmer that does not have to have a machine right now on the job every day.

Come on, you don't need to stop from 2nd to the 3rd gear. Looks like you haven't driven a stick shift vehicles. Not the best tractor but ain't as bad or archaic as you explained.
I had a stick car for 5 years. Those are synchronized gears, these are unsynchronized. Totally different.

Mahindra is the only tractor that the dealer I worked at had to warranty an engine on. Mahindra didn't make it easy either, they had to strip the bottom end completely and take pictures of every side of every component, if I remember correctly, several of the main bearings had heavy scoring, but there was no way to tell if it was caused by simply poorly made bearings or debris that was in the engine from manufacturing being sent down a gallery into the main bearings. I did a warranty on a TYM, I guess it wasn't the first time for that fella (tie-rod ends, range selector lever, battery terminals and the hydraulic cylinders had some corrosion so they had started to leak past the seals, if memory serves correctly) Now the only tractors that I recall ever selling from our dealer was these little toy Mahindras' and a Case 75A or something. People love a cheap tractor, but then live on a zero-profit hobby farm and have brand-new 1-tonnes for wife/husband/kids...

Silly question time: What;s up with the screen over the bucket?? I've seen them in some of your videos, but it never gets mentioned. Not defending this tractor, but old technology doesn't necessarily mean bad- all the electronic doo-dads we have on everything also adds costs and complexity. More things to go wrong, wear out, become obsolete in the future etc. You have to wonder if today's tractors will still be going strong in 40+ years, like an 8N or a 4020... (lol- that 4020 came with either a synchro trans or a powershift- in the 1960's! What's Mahindra's excuse??)

It wouldn't be my first choice to put a loader on, but still beats a hand shovel any day of the week. Bells and whistles are nice but my main concern is how does it pull... When you're working in a field you spend 99.9% of your time plodding forward under heavy load. As far as I'm concerned, as long as I can put the power to the ground, a simple geared transmission is preferable for fuel efficiency alone. Besides, I'd rather replace a clutch every now and then before a whole transmission.
That being said, don't construe this for any kind of tractor buying advice. If you've got a small acreage and you want tractor that's going to have a bazillion random attachments for every conceivable task (except spending 16 hours a day tilling), then you're not going to like this at all.

So when you mentioned tym they're a great tractor company and Mitsubishi they make really quality equipment I've never had one single problem with it and over a thousand hours. And when you were explaining that tractor as being rather simplistic yes that's a good thing. The fact that it's classic tractor nothing else yeah I see that is a really really good thing because you have less stuff that you're going to have to work on. As far as when you said well it's going to need clutch jobs this is obviously not the ideal tractor for constant loader work but if you're just every now and then doing some loader work yeah I would do that this is a tractor that would primarily be best primarily best for pulling implements that are very heavy
Sometimes a traditional style tractor is perfectly fine, I’ve seen folks use old farmall h and I’ve been pulled by John Deere 4440 and 2355, they old and more traditional. I’ve driven a more modern mx6000 kuboter but it’s always good to support qtraditional styles. At least it ain’t a steam tractor?

and its a tractor not a car you pick the gear you want and stay in it you dont start in 1st and go through the gears so the clutch really wont burn up like you think
I totally get that Mahindra is laughably outdated, but they're trying to get up to modern standards. I know of countless campgrounds and facilities here in Michigan that run equipment from the 40's through the 70's, and that's OK (electronic ANYTHING causes downtime, and that costs money.) Some prefer old school, some prefer new school; there's always pros and cons. I know Mahindra IS trying as I live near their North American tech campus.
Old schools is actually going up in value because people are getting sick of being locked out by software.

Kipling had one off these when he wrote The Jungle Book. You have no sense of adventure, lol. I've driven one if these and the workout you get shifting is significant. A Mike shifts much easier from forward to reverse.
I think there would be a market for a no frills compact tractor if the price point was attractive enough. We had a 1978 Ford 1600 that we used since new. It was still running good up until last year when a hired hand was using it to power an anger and ledt it idling. It developed a coolant leak and overheated. My brother and I used to make extra money with the tractor growing up taking jobs mowing, rototilling, blading driveways, and blowing snow for people so it saw lots of use. All the electronics and advanced features on modern tractors will be a maintenance nightmare down the road if you are looking to get decades of use like we did out of old Ford. There is a lot to be said about a manual gear box, basic controls and basic gauges. Chances are they will still be working decades later. Also if repairs are needed you can do them yourself.

This was my grandpa's favorite style of tractor (no rops). We live with steep terrain and that transmission scares the crap out of me. My Kubota HST definitely feels safer on hills.

I have a JD 2010 loader crawler it's 40's yrs old that thing is a beast ten tons bucket is self leveling and it's 40 plus yrs old I would not buy a new tractor there to cheap

there must be a language issue here...because you missed Neals point completely. Compared to newer (at least the last 30 yrs+ ) the Mahindra gearbox is very slow and archaic...plus in the operators way. He did miss one BIG point though...good luck getting anything done under warranty. They advertise a "7" yr warranty, but you will have problems getting even simple things taken care of.... even in the first year.....as they will find a way to deny manufacturers fault...instead blaming customer fault...usually. How they are still in business here is amazing
Sorry to say, but, I owned a Mahindra 4500 4WD...I wouldn't take one again if you gave it to me! Parts are very expensive. Glad to be rid of the albatross. Good review and right on.
My neighbor is coming to this conclusion. He has had nothing but trouble with it. Cylinders blowing and odd starts and stops while running the backhoe.
I own a 1958 ford tractor I don't think you would survive 5 minutes on.

I have been operating tractors since I was 10. Been on Fords, Deere, Kubota, Case, International, NH and a Mahindra. I couldn’t name all the sizes and models. The one Mahindra was a 2016. Not sure of the model but it was around a 50hp tractor with cab and loader. A guy who we sold round hay bales to owned it. That was the biggest piece of $hit. It wouldn’t lift the bales, the cab shook , the shifter felt like I was going to break it. Everything just felt cheap. Even when you pushed the clutch, it felt weak, like a child’s toy. I barely got the bales off the trailer. You couldn’t give me one!
