Hi baz hope your ok pal good video mate love them launch diagnostic scanner cracking piece of kit got a led light for the bonnet £40 of ebay sealey its brilliant 😊
The condition of this engine isn't your fault, so be very clear to the customer. Ask him was caused this, maybe no oilchanges or using cheap oil or the wrong viscosity? Tell the customer the possible solutions to correct the current situation (a rebuild for a lot of money, or another engine cheap but a lot of labour and a big risk) and let him decide and just go do something AFTER the customer confirms! Tell him that a used engine you know nothing about is a big risk and that that risk is the customer's!
I did buy my opel/Vauxhall astra g 2.2 ecotech engin with a stretched timing chain and the topp chain guide was broken just like in this video. No enginge light or fault code. This was 12 years ago. The car had only run 89000km. Replaced the chain and guides.
You should check the oil filter, it may be blocked and restricting oil flow. The pressure switch could be taking it's reading before the filter but have no pressure after the filter. Change the oil and filter, run it to see if the tappets quieten down. If it does just change the timing chain.
I have an Astra 1.6cdti and I have a Dacia 1.5dci. And what I can't understand for the life in me is how the Dacia, which is 35% cheaper car than the Astra, has a diesel engine that works much quieter and smoother than the one in the Astra?? How is that possible? Does engine power have anything to do with engine noise? Because the Astra has 110hp, and the Dacia has only 75. Could this be the reason why Dacia is at least 20% quieter?
That is why I don’t trust longlife oil. On my car oil change supposed to be done every 19500 miles. I do oil change every 9000 miles and putting ceratec every second oil service
I think the lifters or chain are done Edit: never mind, the oil is so carboned up lol, that’s horrendous the car looks quite clean tho Pretty sure the turbo is done too, just realised it got a turbo on it
Struggling with my Insignia A20DTH. P0101 code MAF Range/performance. New MAF, and checked all accessible pipes for leaks. Ordered a smoke machine to try and figure it out.
Seen this engine with the turbo oil pipe completely blocked with carbon killing 2 turbos..not unfeasible the ollway through head gasket blocked .....sometimes owners are the problem not the cars😂
Tough choice for the customer, but it has to be another engine, the labor, sundries, and attention to detail to rebuild that just adds to the time bumping up the cost. Engine swap a good unit in, then they are back on the road quickly. If they look after it, they will never look back and put this down to a good learning experience!
people that do this should be made to get the bus having the luxury of a car is just not for them, all you've got to do is pay someone to maintain it and they cant even do that bloody pathetic.
The problem of the lifters is that all the oil is lost in the Tensioner on the Timing Chain ,and probably blocked the sump filter ,Another Engine 100% it's been Driven to Death 😢
I checked the MOT history on this car and it's quite obvious they were driving it to the ground even driving it with no oil in the car possible. on the MOT picked up crankshaft oil seal leaking bad twice they mentioned it. Best the car is scrapped right lemon and the mot runs out soon.
Press menu and menu again it’ll clear the screen and eventually it’ll throw up service vehicle soon which is the underlying line for engine light on these astras

@@joskd8491 In todays world everything is overpriced, and almost everything is Chinese junk. What can we do about it? I can sell my Astra K for lets say 10K euros. But what can I buy for that price that is half decent? Some 1.0 3 cylinder piece of shit? I rather stick with my Astra then.
Because most of them are oblivious cretins that dont know and dont want to know how things work, and pay everything up so dont really know the true in your hand money value of the damage they cause to a perfectly serviceable car which will probably be traded in and called unreliable and then the cycle starts again a lot of the public are complete idiots in general.
Someone didn't want to spend £ for oil changes...Oil is cheap, engines and labour are not
That's one unloved engine .. Shame clean car .
Can't believe that was even running 🤯
well let's hope customer opts for the rebuild... gonna be nice content for us
Need to do tool box tour baz 👍
Baz, you didn't answer the question why the oil light went out when the pressure switch wasn't even connected.
Some ones been clearing codes that result from that ecu timer code , its been abused Baz !
Cracking video, loving the content.
Be interested to see what the customer did with it in the end.
Think I'd be with you, rebuilding the existing one.

done loads of these top chain guide fails and even seen bolts come loose. Always locktite top guide boss before torquing them down

I'm led to believe it had an oil and filter before it came to me
Iv seen this before on the 1.4turbo in the astra no DTCs though 😳
I couldn't believe it

The moral of the story, do regular oil changes 🤦♂️

Couldn’t work out if it was petrol or diesal by listening to it obvs a petrol tho

Run a can of flush. New lifters and chain. Whip off sump and wash out the oil pick up and pan and send it.
S/H motor best bet if the rest of the car is okay.

reason: Opel is overpriced junk a has never ever produced a proper diesel engine
