Holy shit, the crowd even knew the words before the album came out.
BryanX 64 I was at this concert. We went to see them here 12-15 times from May 1989-Aug1990 and every time we were drunk as hell having the best time ever
IceWater Productions I wish I could have gone to those shows man! You’re so lucky, wish I could see them right now but sadly I was born after Dimebag had already died🤷♂️
@@iceWaterProductions1 You're lucky coming from an 05 Kid
PANTERA was singing those songs
Almost a year before, they had plenty of practice with those songs
@@eddiepullens6084 yeah by the time CFH came out as a record, they had already written a lot of vulgar
I managed this club from '88 to '92. Pantera played there at least 1 weekend a month up until they were signed . Sometimes they would do a Thursday-Saturday stint. After the shows we would typically head over to someone's house or apartment for an after party. Darrell and Vinnie were always up for that. Cowboys from Hell material was being played at those shows in early '89 about a year before they were signed. For some reason Rex started coming to me right before showtime each night so we could do a tequila shot...some kind of good luck tradition I think. Kings X's dUg Pinnick would come to most of their shows and hang out. Kings X also played Backstage Club many times. Lot of memories of the wild craziness that went on during those times. If you like the sound of this from a handheld minicam from the '80s you should have been there live.....UNBELIEVABLE! The house sound engineer we had is still a friend and he was exceptional then and now.
USED TO SEE THEM JOES GARAGE DALLAS CITY LIMITS AND THE BASEMENT
That was an excellent story to share. Thanks so much and what an honour to meet these guys back then!
That's badass man I wish I could of saw Dime play even a riff live.. to young sucks but he's my favorite thanks for the cool story man I could listen all day haha
hey i know its been awhile since you posted this comment. but im looking for footage of pantera in my city. if you dont mind where was this place?
I played in a band called Favorite Sin, we played all over Houston, with the goal being to play Backstage, we finally got our chance, and we played a few times, we considered playing backstage was like we made it. 9301 bissonette. Still remember the address 40yrs later.
Imagine seeing this as just an unsigned local band?! Lol completely amazing.
Saw this twice a month at this venue for over a year
@Chris Tatum i’d be lying if i said i was’nt jealous. Thats awesome.
O ISAW THEM ATLEAST 13 TIMES BEFORE THEY WERE SIGHNED IN DALLAS AND FORT WORTH GOOD TIMES
before Phils voice was lower than drop a
He used to be an awesome vocalist. Power metal and cowboys from hell are definatelly the best albums.
@@neonknight-1522 i don't agree i think when he voice is on peak in on the first down album
@@edybocman76 yeah i dont agree with what i said back then either😂
@@neonknight-1522 I like you, Neon. Seem like a pretty cool guy.
@@jamesb6857 cowboys from hell is Panteras best album imo
2:31 Holy shit, that's fucking hilarious. Phil raised his fist and kept singing too
The dude smacked him in the face and dived into the crowd 😂😂😂😂😂
To think that some years later he would stop the show to punch the guy
Fucking old school.
hell yeah!! first instinct, still kept his Shit in check for the Show!!!!!!
That has got to be one of the best solos ever written. RIP dudes 🤟😀🤟
OMG, such a masterpiece!
In my opinion, I think this is the best live performance of this song in their entire discography.
The band is rehearsed in it's peaks and the sound setup is amazing (kudos to sound engineer).
Getcha' pull baby!!
I absolutely agree brother FUCKING RIGHT🤟🏻🤘🏻
This IS the HOLY GRAIL
Phil sounds awesome! Great live shit! R.I.P. Abbott brothers.
indeed bro. At least, they are together again.
2:28 Young Dimebag travelled into the future to enjoy his older self's playing!
Lmao
Does kinda look like him
Love how Phil knocks the guy off him back to the crowd without missing half a beat!
An absolutely historic moment. By the end of the year, the entire country knew Pantera!!!
The intro sure sounds a lot like Hellbound. Pretty cool Dime was using his ideas on them later albums way early. Adam Jones from Tool does the same thing.
Phil was one of the few singers that had dramatic voice changes throughout his career but owned all of them!!
These are the good old days, when audience participation was actually worth a shit.
I was at this show. Such high energy and fell in love with groove metal that night. Can't even remember how I came to go to this show as I only heard of Pantera briefly before this. Sure was glad I did though!!! A memory I'll never forget.
Wow, Phil was so cool back in the days
.
1:52 is Phil doing some Cirque Du Soleil dancing here? ;)
cowboys era baby
10 years later they co headline ozzfest and close the show with this song and went from the kings of metal to gods of metal
I dont remember if I caught this show at Backstage . But I got to see them Play Power Metal songs and covers in the late 80s . They were great sounding and performing in this tight little club . Good ole days for my over 50 ass . But was in my prime then driking chasing girls . Many good times in that club.
2:30 that guy took a shot at Phil and dived off stage, Phil was pissed but didn’t break lyrics
He was about to punch him
😂😂😂😂
4:05 Phil doing the Nazi salute and shouting out white power is pretty hard to ignore.
Must've been drinking white wine backstage.....again 👀
My feeling tells me he’s just being edgy.
@@LordBackuro just keep making excuses for the man, I guess.
Fuck didn't know it was really a deep issue with the guy. Big stain over a legendary metal vocalist
Get ova it.
Somewhere around 4:32 i just blacked out and don't remember what happened, weird. This band must be so cool that they give me seizures or something.
I thought it was just me lol
Dude epilepsy.
Same rigjt now 2024 ! Phone left my hands hit me in the faze laying in bed sober !
I have seizures when I’m bused into a president obama rally. Fans pass out.
@@bevdog2435
Sober is good, especially in this chaotic world today.
This is six months before the album was even released. You won't find fresher material than this. Thanks for sharing, PanterA is one of my top 5 bands among hundreds of them.
Two months before this show Early October 1990. The Channel in Boston. Suicidal Tendencies and Exodus plus some no name band opening up. Got there early a nice sunny fall day. The guitarist and drummer with opening band walk up to my bro and I. I just turned 14, brother was 15. Parents just dropped us off ❤️👍. Guitar player says "wanna check out our new tour bus?" I was kinda like "um ok", but they were friendly nice to us. I could tell they were more in awe than us! We step up on to the tour bus, walk up look around and it's nice but what I expected. I'm thinking "Where's Mike Muirs bus?" We say thanks. back in line. 1.5 hr later we head IN, the bus guys were going on first .No joke, this band LEVELED the PLACE. I should have just left after. That band WAS FN 🤘PANTERA 🤘
RIP DIME /Vinny and thanks for letting us meet you before any of us knew about you. Although I sometimes wish I knew who they were at the time it would take away from the natural lure and realness of the experience. About 8 or 9 years later, far beyond driven tour. my current wife and ex wife 😄 went to see them, current wife gets back stage passes handed to her for free for free before the show . They both got their asses of their jeans signed in black sharpie.
They were 19-20yo at the time.
So in conclusion I met dimebag and Vinnie before they were was famous and they signed BOTH of my wives asses! I never put this together til now. God or universe works in mysterious ways.
4:08. I guess there was white wine in the backstage, Phil.
Hahaha, holy shit good catch!
Jason did the same in Seattle '89
Juan Antonio Carmona Camacho I noticed that
what was that?
Phil is based
Cowboys from hell is one of the best metal songs ever made it rocks
I got to see these guys in toronto for the cowboys from hell tour!!! BEST SHOW EVER!
3:11 I wish that solo was included in the original :(
Wow I really got into Pantera since maybe three months by now, wow this shit right here is a fucking dope ass show let me tell ya! The voice , the guitars, drums, are so intense! even the crowd looked fucking insane! These two guys in the front row who sang they were kinda on point too haha It made my night ! I'm thankfull for this to exist ! 🙏🤟
6 nickelback fans came here!!! This is absolutely amazing how could you dislike this?
No offense but nickel back knew the band and they wrote the song side of a bullet as a tribute to dimebag
GODDAMN they were tight! I would kill to have been at this show! CFH FOREVER!
Rex sounds amazing!!
4:06 for fucks sakes Phil
I saw them on this tour at a really small venue in Burlington Vt in the early 90's and they fuckin rocked that place! I wish someone had video of it, I'd love to see it again!
That's when I first heard Pantera. Went to a Prong show and Pantera opened for them. Totally blown away. Met Phil outside after the show...thanks for being cool, man.
Prong!!! 🤘🤘🤘
I'm 26 and I wish I could've met my #1 idle guotarsit and band in there prime days 😢❤
That one dude had that "WE'RE TAKING OVER THIS TOWN" prepared, he was fucking ready lmfao
Epic.... Thanks Bro !! _~~~~~
\m/ \m/
"WERE TAKING OVER THIS TOWN!" said one spectator. Damn that was nice feeling i bet.
Hell yeah thanks for this my friend !!!
I can not thank you enough for this upload! Thank you so daaaamn much! Keep rocking! 🤘
Man, to think that next year they'd be playing in front of millions of Russians during the fall of the Soviet Union. Pantera rules!
Just fucking amazing! I LOVE YOU FOR POSTING THIS ;:)))))
That's me Headbangin up against the Stage on Dimes side!!
saw pantera at the backroom in dallas about this time. phil had just shaved his head and the crowd was giving him shit about it. no idea who they were but will never forget how cool they were.
These types on concerts are best
God I miss those days
wow, great video. Love seeing the originals
Great older stuff!
2:47 "Were taking over this TOOOOOWN!!!" LMAO
LMFAO
This is my Favorite Phill 😍
Lol i wrote this 2 years ago haha
Turn it up to max. Just destroying it on stage. Gets me all amped
This is the best thing on the internet
Im just after realising that this is the show that's in the official music video for the song! 😅
The lights come on, the magic begins.
All Pantera album are great, Cowboys was the child album in the next they get darker, adult, probably leaving hope, but still amazing. I have a feeling that phill put all his youthful energy into singing for the pantera, and he gave himself so much that he burned like a twig in the sun.
And Pantera story is so sad, i really think they were too big, too intense and like all good dreams, when they finish they break your heart.
I’d been 9 when this happening lol god I love it!!!
Woulda loved 2 have been there !
'Cause PANTERA RULES !
Those crowds are wild 😂
4:05 Phil Phil Phil lol
YES
Was I the only one that noticed Phil’s salute😂😂
No. Just most people want to ignore it, it would seem.
@@hummens44 Most people don't care because this was the early 90s and no one thought much of it, same with most 70s rock bands flying confederate flags
@@hummens44nobody really cares
At 2:30 Phil was ready to lay that dude tf out 🤣🤣🤣
Somewhere in America...... 1990
4:33 sounds weird as hell, been playing around with the harmonics and I think the first set of he’s hitting the pinches closer to the bridge pickup, and then the deeper pinches are closer to the neck
Crazy that only a year and a half later they would be playing this in front of more than a million people in Moscow
Props to Grady behind Dime from Day 1.
WERE TAKIN OVER THIS TOWWWN haha that guy at 2:47 is hilarious
Hahah i know past self.. that was hilarious. lol.
Love you guys. Stronger than all.🤟🏴🤟
Its hard for me that Dimebag and Vinnie are gone and Rex and Phil still alive all those years since 1981 last time saw Pantera 2001...
better audio quality than these days
It sounds like Rex and Dime are tuned down just a smidge!!! damn this shit was sic!!!! Of all the bands to still be together, Pantera is always at the top of the list, Dime Vinnie we live on in your memory brothers!!!! Fucking Rock on all you brothers and sisters!!!
Thank Godfather for God ....father time travelling to give us these, holy shit, life would be incomplete brother, you fucking rock!!!! Cheeers!!!🦈
4:07 :(
I can't imagine what kind of a party this was
Greatest Hook riff written
Как же я хочу туда....
brothers Abbot you are sorely missed.
What's up with phil dancing?
SufferTV idk😂
LMAO
Phil's Dancing is so fucking hilarious I was legit on the floor dying of laughter
That was an early 90's metal/alternative thing for some reason. Rob Zombie used to dance around like that during the early White Zombie days and I remember Mike Patton doing it during Faith No More performances.
@@gawdawful3378 before I watched it I thought yall were gonna be talking about the skanking Phil always does but youre right this is that shit FNM and Rob Zombie was always doing.
Here we go
What a legend
Hate to say it, but Phil has talked a good story about being against racism in the last decade, but there's the salute, right after 4:08. And he gets it back too. I guess he should talk about that.
That this was so open and ignored this long ago says a lot about the culture at the time, and it's very ugly. Tip of the iceberg. Phil to this day has never adequately addressed it, but nobody else in Pantera ever did either.
@@hummens44the band isnt around anymore, it doesnt matter
PANTERA RULES because of Dime!
The difference between his voice from then till now. All those years of destroying his vocal cords completly and hard driking.
Dimebag and Vinnie, we miss you
Badass
And to think a little over a year later they would play infront of around 1 million people at monsters of rock moscow
4:07 💀
Damn, how did he make such a sound?!
1:27
flanger prolly
I wish I had a time machine
I have question about 2:46. Why Phil was sure that crowd knows lyrics? It was before album release
THEY HAD BEEN PLAYING COWBOYS FROM HELL AND TOURING THE NEW MATERIAL SINCE MID 1989 BEFORE THEY WERE SIGNED AND THE ALBUM CAME OUT!!! THAT'S WHY!! THANK YOU FOR ENJOYING MY VIDEO MEMORIES GODFATHER
2:44 Guys in the front row understood the job 🤣👌🏾💯💯
I saw this tour live. Was this at The Gold Rush in Phx AZ? 1990
Rawshit. 🤘
Just a reminder to anyone watching this... THIS is the start to the success of the legendary band: PANTERA!!!! (Other than from their album power metal... name a song that preceded that... without looking any up...)
LIKE FIRE, SHE'S GOT COME ON EYE'S ,HOT & HEAVY ETC!!! THANK YOU FOR ENJOYING MY VIDEO MEMORIES OF THOSE DAZE!!! GODFATHER!!!
Ride my rocket
cant believe he died on my exact dob shits crazy
They sure are dancing around alot😂
Yeah pantera lml
This is so fucking wild
Ain't this the flip side of steady mobbing
