The Chasing Cardboard episode video was great, the editing on that video was a little odd on the auto verification/opinions (seemed out of order, the timeline I mean) IMO (As a Video Engineer this was the first time things seemed out of order). Additionally, the applied Audio for the intro was really hot. It happens....However, I never felt like things were not on the up and up. Keep doing what your doing and bringing us great content and KEEP CHASING
Hi Mike, I was really impressed by this video answer to the Babe Ruth autograph from a previous video. In my life I give the benefit of the doubt in as many cases as possible. Editing can really distort the perception of the viewer and in this case the editing didn’t do any favours for you Mike. I’m glad that I didn’t rush to judgment on this issue. First, I did think the video regarding the autograph was a little awkward and that's probably what prompted the comments. I am curious, and I know you won't say, who said it was an obvious forgery. If it's who I think it is, he must have been having a bad day. Anyway, don't sweat the haters...you and Ty do a great job buying these collections and you never take advantage of the sellers. You can't ask for anything else.
I can see where you can be spoked by someone throwing out that it was a forgery. You mentioned Lakeland and having been there for Tigers Spring games, I figured you had proof enough. I bought a 1964 Twins ball near Orlando, with a Clemente autograph. Looked good and it was confirmed by a JSA. Florida is a great place for items like that.

The editing on that episode did ya dirty, I know I'd be annoyed if it were me being shown that way with really key story telling elements completely missing. Just jumped from "yeah it's legit, worth 6k" to "it's probably fake" and then made it seem like you guys took and authenticated the auto's anyways with no recognition of what you were actually doing there. Which obviously isn't exactly the greatest look and just confusing storytelling. Chasing Cardboard does have really high quality production value though so probably just an oversight in the cutting room putting it together. Well explained here though and definitely changes how I feel about it after watching previously on first release. Maybe they'll re-edit or add something to the episode to clarify so that kind of reaction doesn't linger as more people discover and watch?
This was my take on it too - not that I thought that's what happened, of course, but rather how it looked to someone who'd be watching for the first time, with no knowledge of anyone in the hobby.
If Frank's 2nd opinion was Mr. K I wouldn't spend my money on it. I think Mr. K is overly cautious sometimes, but I'd rather err on the side of caution when spending big money.
When it comes to autographs, as you and Frank know, you just have to educate yourself and sometimes you know more than the “experts.” I am sitting on a few incredibly rare signed items that I know are good but the experts won’t formally authenticate but told me verbally were real.

I seem to recall that the deal excluded the Ruth auto, but you agreed to have it authenticated for them if they wanted. That’s what I understood. That is exactly what was done. Call me wierd, but the only issue I have is that your "source" should take a humble pill and rethink why he should never state that something is "OBVIOUSLY" fake (or real). There is an arrogance when an expert in a particular area makes such a galvanizing statement that leaves no room for doubt. We all give incorrect opinions, so errors in judgement is no big deal, but its moreso his galvanizing declaration of " its an obvious fake", specifically when something is that close to the real thing (that auto, fake or real, we all can agree that it was exceptionally and significantly very close). Any other expert would have said along the lines of "I believe it may be... or I have a little bit of doubt that it is.... or I'm fairly sure it could be fake but.... But to state that it is obviously a fake... I was floored at that part in the video! I was like "that auto is too close, and that person is viewing photos of it" and for them to state it with 100% certainty, can only speak more about their ego than anything else. I sure hopes he doesn't authenticate for a living lol
Big fan of the show and the knowledge you guys have. I didn’t comment on the video but I felt the big issue was the low balling valuation. The first guy said value is about 6k (which I thought was very low). Then later on you were saying the value was 2-3k when talking to the sellers.
Ty is over paying now because so worried about public perception and now has to flip everthing on whatnot to maybe get over comps becsuse he overpays. How about not filming everything. What did people do before youtube?

I think you were stitched up in the editing, and my comment on the video was an observation on how it 'appeared' (not what I thought actually happened). In any case, all's well that ends well. It's amazing to me how much people put their trust and faith in authenticator's , as if the are the know all or can even possibly know 100% if it's real or fake. Even the correct ball, paper or ink for the time does NOT 100% guarantee authenticity. Let alone a good story that comes with the auto. I wish I can show some PSA slabbed autos that you would shake your head at, buy hey, PSA said so, so there you go.

Mike, there is no need to apologize or give clarity. My takeaway from the episode was that there was another opinion on the Ruth auto and I figured that SGC or PSA would authenticate it. I am of the opinion that you cover your bases, be open with your client (which I felt you were) but also knew that, for the sake of entertainment and the show, that we probably do not know every detail of the transaction…that is really none of our business. Thanks for posting about the auto but I was good with the episode and how it was aired last night. #keepchasing
It was an edit mistake so blame the producer LOL! In all seriousness, it looked like an oversight in the production. When I was watching it I was wondering what happened too but was able to put two and two together and just assumed something happened behind the scenes. I think people that criticized didn't catch those little details. It was clear the Ruth was not included in the original deal! It was a great show by the way! But there the question still remains, how much did they get for those two autos? Will it be a percentage of what it sells for? What will the percentage be? Just asking for transperancy. Thanks Mike!
We have not sold the autos as of yet. We still have them. The owner is getting the money for those minus a small fee for Chasing Cardboard and they paid for the authentication.
That’s why I never trust these authenticators, especially from an autograph of a person who died in 1948. The only autograph that would ever mean something to me is if I got it signed personally.
You either said something or you didnt. Yes, you can cut something at times to take out of context but in this instance you made a very clear stance and then reversed it when it came back legit. JUST ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG!
Mike, in my eyes this video was nice but not necessary. Based on your observations in the Chasing Cardboard video, I never questioned the authenticity of the autograph. I don’t recall the original owners name, but I ask the question what motive would he have had to fake a Babe Ruth autograph? Because he knew in 2024 it would be sold and stir up controversy? I don’t think so. This man was a baseball fan, and the Hank Greenberg picture demonstrates that. If I were alive in that era, and I had the chance to meet Babe Ruth and get his autograph I sure would have.

Some of the responses you’re getting are people literally combing through sports card videos looking for a controversy. I’ll be honest it caught my attention. I watched the conversation a few times trying to catch what you were saying because I started the reading the comments and knew people were going to take it wrong . It did feel like you back tracked at first but it took me watching it a few times to make sense of it , but also people have to understand you have the right to change your mind on authenticity . Once you gather more information and change you’re mind that doesn’t make you shady at all Unless you guys start going in and buying collections for 100% Ebay value you’re going to get people trying to claim you’re being deceitful or shady. Just a no win situation for you all . Lot of trolls that don’t actually know you’re an honest guy

This all seems unnecessary Mike and I agree with the other comments that you shouldn’t have to explain yourself. Anyone questioning your integrity almost certainly has their own issues. Now, with that said, that phone call in the middle of THIS video was SUSPICIOUS AF!!! 😂

Mike, there is no need to apologize or give clarity. My takeaway from the episode was that there was another opinion on the Ruth auto and I figured that SGC or PSA would authenticate it. I am of the opinion that you cover your bases, be open with your client (which I felt you were) but also knew that, for the sake of entertainment and the show, that we probably do not know every detail of the transaction…that is really none of our business. Thanks for posting about the auto but I was good with the episode and how it was aired last night. #keepchasing
It was an edit mistake so blame the producer LOL! In all seriousness, it looked like an oversight in the production. When I was watching it I was wondering what happened too but was able to put two and two together and just assumed something happened behind the scenes. I think people that criticized didn't catch those little details. It was clear the Ruth was not included in the original deal! It was a great show by the way! But there the question still remains, how much did they get for those two autos? Will it be a percentage of what it sells for? What will the percentage be? Just asking for transperancy. Thanks Mike!
We have not sold the autos as of yet. We still have them. The owner is getting the money for those minus a small fee for Chasing Cardboard and they paid for the authentication.

That’s why I never trust these authenticators, especially from an autograph of a person who died in 1948. The only autograph that would ever mean something to me is if I got it signed personally.

You either said something or you didnt. Yes, you can cut something at times to take out of context but in this instance you made a very clear stance and then reversed it when it came back legit. JUST ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG!

Mike, in my eyes this video was nice but not necessary. Based on your observations in the Chasing Cardboard video, I never questioned the authenticity of the autograph. I don’t recall the original owners name, but I ask the question what motive would he have had to fake a Babe Ruth autograph? Because he knew in 2024 it would be sold and stir up controversy? I don’t think so. This man was a baseball fan, and the Hank Greenberg picture demonstrates that. If I were alive in that era, and I had the chance to meet Babe Ruth and get his autograph I sure would have.

I’ll be honest it caught my attention. I watched the conversation a few times trying to catch what you were saying because I started the reading the comments and knew people were going to take it wrong . It did feel like you back tracked at first but it took me watching it a few times to make sense of it , but also people have to understand you have the right to change your mind on authenticity . Once you gather more information and change you’re mind that doesn’t make you shady at all
Unless you guys start going in and buying collections for 100% Ebay value you’re going to get people trying to claim you’re being deceitful or shady. Just a no win situation for you all . Lot of trolls that don’t actually know you’re an honest guy
