What I beautiful haunting redition of a poignant song. Thank you! I used to sing and play this after hearing the Judy Collins version, but this one is totally different, and her soprano is so moving.

    What a great comment.
It was through Mary's Welsh language version of this song that I discovered Judy Collins,

Thanks, that is interesting that you discovered it the other way around. I have listened to this youtube version over and over, it touches a deep chord.

    Hello from Wales
    She does sing this beautifully!
She never released this in English only in the Welsh language. The title is "Tyrd yn ol" and is available on a CD called "the early recordings" on the SAIN label,
Mary has though, been releasing her back catalouge recently via her own label Mary Hopkin Music

Yes this was originally released on the Cambrian label CEP712 in 1970 as the b side to "Pleserau serch" it was called "Tyrd yn ol"
If you have only heard her Welsh songs on the "Welsh World of Mary Hopkin" I recommend you get hold of a CD released in 1996 on the Welsh Label SAIN SCD2151 called the "Early Recordings"
The songs on the Decca recording "Welsh World" were ruined by terrible overdubbing drums etc
The "Sain" CD is true to the otiginal recordings and the sound is excellent.

What a stunning performance. What a beautiful voice...just beautiful!.
Is the CD that this song appears on still available and what is the title of the CD? I am in California so don't know how easy it would be to get it if only released in Europe. I never knew that Mary even recorded this song. I do have it on a CD by American folk singer, Priscilla Herdman who does a lovely version of it as well.

Most certainly it was Judy Collins version she would have heard. Her school teacher used to do all her translations for her.

Has there been any release of Mary singing this song in English on any releases at this time? Or only in Welsh?

Has Mary released "The Coming of the Roads" on any albums yet?
(In English). I heard there is a Welsh one but I don't know if this video shown here is available on a CD OR a DVD?

You might want to list the writer of the song, Billy Edd Wheeler, in your tags. I have the Welsh recording that Mary made, but it's given a completely different title--is the melody traditional under a different set of lyrics? (Many of the early folkies in the 60s "stole" trad melodies for new lyrics, as Dylan did for many songs, for example. Did Wheeler do that here?) The best known cover of this is probably Judy Collins's on her _Fifth Album_, which is where Hopkin probably heard it.

It on Judy's 4th album " Live at Town Hall." Mary sure loved Baez and Collins.

@@taddyd1 Well, maybe you live in a country that issued albums differently, but it's definitely on _Fifth Album_ in the USA, but Judy *did* cover two other Wheeler songs on her 4th album, which was the _Judy Collins Concert_ album here, though I think it may indeed have been live at Town Hall, or something. She also covered "Red-winged Blackbird" and "Coal Tattoo" on that album.

@@davidlenander You are so right. MY mistake. Getting old. Sorry.
#5 is my favorite of all her many excellent albums so I really made a dumb error with my " correction."
I guess I remember her mentioning Wheeler's name on the live album. Excellent ecology song if there ever was one. Thanks
