    I got into acheivement hunting for the satisfaction of completing games and beating those games that can take weeks or months because of the diffculty or grind makes the final acheivement popping even more rewarding and fulfilling.

    Great vid. It was recommended on my homepage. I'm a fairly casual playstation trophy hunter with around 50+ platinums but for the most part it's games that I enjoyed to play, obviously there's some regrets lol. It was nice to just listen to your opinions of the community and trophy hunting in general as I have never really taken part in it, just playing for myself

    Great video! I just started achievement "hunting" casually on steam by completing two small indie games both of which I really loved and made me feel very proud: Mark of the Ninja and Death's Door. I'm considering starting achievement hunting more deliberately but I'm only interested in a curated set of well crafted indie games. Just like you said. I'm now going through Little Nightmares which has an horrendous "deathless speedrun" achievement which honestly may make or break my resolution. In any case, I liked your video very much and just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing your experience. Um abraço e bom Ano Novo!

    Can't say I personally trophy hunt often, but occasionally I'll dip my toe to get the remaining few to get a platinum trophy or spend the time with a game I really enjoy. For me I'm more concerned with beating games I've purchased vs completing as I've got the "more games, less time" problem, but I always enjoy when I complete a game for myself.

    I have 70 plats right now. I have been collecting since 2014. Sometimes I stop playing and think about the value of these trophies. I hope they would have some payback like the steam points to customize profile but work with trophies mainly instead of from buying games

    My approach to trophy collecting is purely based on how much I love or respect a game. I will never, and I mean NEVER 100% a game I don’t truly think is worth my time. It’s a great way of keeping myself from playing solely for the sake of trophy hunting and generally forces me to explore and experiment with a game much more than I usually would. I like to take a skim of the trophy list before starting a game and go in mostly blind, if I really like the game, i’ll 100% it over time.

    I used to be a big trophy hunter until I realized it was ruining my gaming experience. I was choosing not to buy games if it had annoying trophies (online, multiple playthroughs, grindy). I used guides to optimize my playtime. I would even play over an entire weekend so my psnprofile said I got the platinum trophy in under 2 days rather than a few weeks/months. In the end nobody has ever asked me how many platinum trophies I have (250 over 10 years btw).

    I was thinking about collecting all the achievements in Crash Bandicoot on Steam (I never achievement hunted before) but it is part of a collection with Crash 2 and Crash 3 and on Steam I would have to 100%all of them to get 100% achievements (which I guess would be equal to a platinum trophy).

    • @TheRetroDen
      @TheRetroDen  4 місяці тому +1

    I don't think you can know if somebody likes trophy hunting. I never liked trophy hunting and after I finished a Yakuza game I loved it. It's not if you liked it, there may be some games that click. In 1 year I platinum over 40 games just like rdr2 and FFx or yakuza, it was for me to get a conclusion, it was not for others to play. I enjoyed it so much that the only list was completion. Never did shovelware just enjoyed the games so much I 100% them. I have more than 90% of games not completed because I did not enjoy them to platinum them. I did like them, but not as much to 100%. Just play what you like and your platinum list will grow and you feel more fulfilling, not to show off. But to yourself, you did it. You made it, be proud of yourself. Keep playing what games you like and if the plat is what you want, just go for it.

    I enjoy getting trophies but it’s kind of a problem since I have 70platinums and 100% on every game except for the game I’m currently playing. It bothers me so much not to have 100% for a game that games I want to play I won’t if the trophies are too annoying, grindy, or unobtainable (multiplayer trophies are crap) haha so I guess I’m even more hardcore than a platinum hunter. Still I’ll play harder games like I’ve 100% all FromSoftware games although I get stressed when I start a game like that. Still enjoy hunting though! Nice video

    Sitting at 33 platinums on steam with 4 (rogue legacy, sdv, binding of isaac, terraria) that I had platinum at one point but an update added more achievements. Most of them are RPGs because that's what I enjoy. I have chrono cross, FF0, 7, 8, 10/2, 12, 13/2/3, 15, nier replicant/automata, octopath 1/2, persona 4/5, witcher 2/3. Also Yakuza 0/1/2/3 are at 96% because they all require a second playthrough for one achievement :\ At one point I wanted to achievement hunt the entire final fantasy series but I failed getting all of the chests in ff5 and ff6 and 9 are huge pains. Also Mobius Final Fantasy will always be a black mark because I'm at 77% but the remaining 23% of achievements are no longer obtainable.
    At the end of the day I think the only 2 games I'm really proud of hunting are witcher 2 (due to it deleting your savefile when you die) and mount and blade warband (something that I got gradually over the course of ~5 years). Funny enough all of my rarest achievements are from puzzlepirates after spending years playing ~20 years ago and logging in via steam once.
    Some games are definitely less worth it than others. RE5 is a game I really enjoyed in highschool but will never platinum because it requires playing ~30+ hours of the crappy online versus mode. RE revelations 1/2 are similar. FF1-6 practically require guides to not miss any chests/bestiary entries and FF8/9 have the BS kill 10k enemy achievements (at the end of my FF8 playthrough I was around 1k so I half played the game while watching anime for a few days. Not something I want to repeat with 9).
    IMO the most fulfilling games are the ones where you have to really push yourself to overcome a challenge rather than grinding it out. Things like RE0/1 beat the game without healing/item box/invisible enemies, KCD on hardcore. I don't own it but I imagine finishing crypt of the necrodancer would be euphoric.
    Also sometimes achievements would just be a neat story like #1 on the leaderboards in total war shogun 2 or beat the game dev in multiplayer in Frozen Synapse but I don't have the balls to go for anything like that.
    Most importantly I'd say don't let a lack of achievements steer you away from good games. In the last few years I've played Witcher 1, Summoner, Recettear, Mass Effect (OG versions), Lobotomy Corporation, Lethal Company, Fallout 1/2, etc. All great games that definitely don't deserve to be overlooked.
