Thank you all for the overwhelming support on this video, it means a ton. Lots of questions about the games featured in the video as such I will list them here. Again thanks, you're doing great, remember that, keep going! Metro Exodus Gears 5 Metro Last Light Redux Monster Hunter World Doom Eternal Lawbreakers (not easily playable anymore although a fan run revival project called RELB got it working for the first time just a few months ago unofficially) Final Fantasy X StarCraft 2 Mirror's Edge Fallout New Vegas Divinity 2 Elden Ring
my dude ive been going through exactly what you described for about 2 years now. i just turned 42 and its like i have no energy anymore like i used to when i was young. ironically i found this vid as i was struggling to find something to watch on youtube. lol. thank you for your advice and insight!
For me, mortal kombat, (mk 10 and mk 11 more specifically) is my first go to game if i'm feeling stressed out or only have a very limited amount of time to game. I can't imagine anyone who doesn't enjoy fatalities or brutalities. Even playing as scorpion on easy and spamming spear and teleport attacks is entertaining. Gears of war and diablo 3 are close 2nds, chainsawing locusts and killing demons(diablo 3)never gets old
The worst is when you're at work or school thinking about what you wanna play when you get home. And when you get home you don't feel like playing anything
I thinks it’s because your mind is on it all day for hours. I believe your brain almost satisfies itself by thinking about the game but then you get home and you’re tired and worrying about the next day.
99% of the time this just means you don't actually want to play any games but you just default to it because its just what you usually do. if you end up forcing yourself to play something when you feel like this you're just gonna make the experience of playing games more and more dull to yourself, like it genuinely starts to suck the enjoyment out of them. my suggestion would be to try to have like a wide variety of things u enjoy doing. find a couple shows you like watching, a book you like reading, and pick up some creative hobbies like art, music, writing, etc. :D having a lot of stuff you like to do like this honestly makes life feel way more fulfilling and u hardly get these moments where u dont feel like doing anything! also it can rly help to change scenery when ur doing other things, like if u usually play games in ur room go sit on ur couch or outside while u watch a show or sketch or whatever variety is good for u :D quick edit 2 months later of some stuff i wanted to include originally but didnt bc a lot of ppl seem to appreciate this advice: ive personally dealt with depression my entire life, and a lot of the stuff i talked about in my original comment went hand in hand with my experience with depression, i just didnt want to assume others who felt this way were also depressed so i didnt talk about them. but if u feel the same way i would recommend a few rly tiny things that have really helped me.. first, please do not play games with all your lights off its so bad for your eyes and your mental health, try to let sunlight into your room whenever you can. also make ur bed and tidy up ur area whenever you have the energy/motivation to do it. if you're not sure when the next time youll feel productive is, you should focus on things like this that will make you feel better, safer, and more comfortable in your space, other things can wait ^^ also there is nothing wrong with just laying in bed and doing nothing for a few hours sometimes you need that and you shouldn't be upset at yourself for it! last thing, if you're sitting at your pc with some free time wanting to do something but you dont feel like doing anything, it can start to feel really frustrating and it makes it harder to pick. often times id just give up and go lay in bed BUT ive found that taking a quick hot shower helps me like reorganize my brain and just helps my mood a LOT and by the time im done i dont really feel like im staring at this brick wall anymore :p ik it sounds silly but idk it works for me hope ur all doing well
@hannahhayez great advice. Been there where games weren't doing it for me. Stopped playing for a couple of months and watched shows more and got hooked on some books. After that, I returned to games sort of naturally, and had a blast again. I think the cycle is repeating itself, coz games aren't quite doing it for me rn.
@@fragr33f74 they are programming our brains, some call it tik tok brain it's a real phenomenon, we are losing our ability to focus for longer than 60 seconds at a wack. youtube is guilty of this as well with their shorts. twitter only allowed a certain amount of characters per tweet for the longest time (maybe still do idk I don't use it) The powers that be (our tech overlords) want us to consume and move on to the next product within 60 seconds (EDIT: it's so they can push more ads per hour). Constantly swiping never stopping, it reminds me of one of those little birds that do almost perpetual motion bobbing up and down that's our fingers our fingers are the bird. I'm old, I didn't always use to be this way, I don't consume tik tok, and I try to stay away from the shorts but I still got tik tok brain. It's so hard to concentrate now.
It's almost like the don't have access via Google to what you search or how active your accounts are and on what allowing them to cater it all at your finger tips through an algorithm :0
I have a bad tendency to get almost done with a game then just stop playing it all together then when I go back I've forgotten all the buttons and have to restart
I do this and it always during some type of boss fight, I did it with Valhalla years ago and just did it with jedi survivor. That guy with the one arm, I need to remember how to play to beat him but can during the battle 😅
OMFG, same. I have over 700 hrs in BG3, coz I had to restart like 20 times, coz I paused for too long and forgotten where I was going with the character I play XD
Same. Ive left FAR more games mostly done than games I have completed. I think I know why I do it though. It seems that whenever I have "essentially" beat the game, meaning I have uncovered all the features and got the jist of it that I can often lose interest. Couple this with a new game coming out and I take a little peak at it only to just play that one instead and end up moving on entirely.
@@SOMA-gj4xc Lol BG3 is the same for me. It's just that there's too many party members y the end and I can't decide who to bring where. Especially when I want to use Minsc and Jaheira for the Sarevok and Viconia encounters.
Usually when I pick a really easy game that I'm confident won't stress me out more than I already am, I end up getting bored of it. I'll then pick a more difficult game that I'm sure won't bore me and but then I'm too exhausted to play it...
Sim games, city builders, social/co-op games. Those are what I go to for stress relief. Save the twitch shooters, fighting games, and precise platformers for when you aren't stressed. Bonus points for goofy or beautiful games.
Nah, I habitually procrastinate and end up spending hours doing nothing, leading me to go to bed very late, angry at myself and life. Then I wake up late, get even angrier at not having free time as I have to go to work. Then I get home and am very tired, but I feel forced that I NEED to do something otherwise the day is wasted - at this point the cycle repeats. Not only gaming, I want to learn a language, I want to learn to code, I want to exercise, I want to write prose, I want to prepare DnD content... And I end up doing nothing. Feeling empty, pointless and unfulfilled. Angry and bitter. Repeat and repeat.
You really at a certain point just gotta pick yourself up and tell yourself “Enough is enough” Now this is only my point of view and idk your current financial situation, but maybe take a little time from work to plan out a rough schedule. Nothing too detailed, and set everyday goals that will later turn into habits. I have severe ADHD and mild depression and this helped me through everything you’ve described. Also meeting with people, friends, family more often or whenever you can. Nothing is hopeless, and I hope you’re able to figure out something that works All the best
It's nice to know I'm not alone. I'm going through the same thing and I think we have a bad case of ADHD. Still deciding if I want treatment or not. I'm heavily against being on medication but it's a battle I'm constantly losing and I'm desperate for help.
Me too. What's worse is that I usually plan ahead and when it comes time to doing it I ended up doing absolutely nothing. My bad habit is waking up early in the morning, having all that time to myself to do whatever I want (not just gaming), THINKING of doing what I want but still ended up doing nothing for the next 3 hours. And then I'm mad at myself for NOT doing anything for that last 3 hours. So I try to make it up to myself for losing 3 hours to nothing but then the things that I'm doing now felt forced.
@@YU_ZU98Change is hard tbh when your so used to do something a certain way all the planning and prep in the world can crumble to ingrained habits, my best advice is create the plan and when you get to that point of following through keep in mind the phrase “nothing is gonna change if nothing changes” because personally I would just lay and lay and procrastinate till I got to a task I couldn’t put off
This actually helped me with life. I’m a songwriter, I always stress about which idea I should write, if I pick the wrong one then I’ve wasted time, I have so many ideas and I end up in analysis paralysis and end up doing no writing at all. This was a well timed reminder to just pick a song idea, and do it. Like you said it doesn’t matter if it’s the “wrong choice” it’s better than not writing at all. To be honest I have this problem with everything in life. So, thank you.
I say this to myself when writing music too, then I just get demotivated because it doesn't matter what I SAY, it matters what I DO, and I just revert to the same old.
We create our own hell. An endless loop of wanting to game, not having the time to play them all, yet accumulating dozens of games and never being able to pick or commit to one. It echoes our life and how we never have enough time in a day to accomplish the things we’re expected to. All we can do is try to keep our heads above water. My solution for nights where I’m browsing games or movies without picking anything is to simply do something else. Even a nighttime walk. Those can work wonders for my mindset.
@@walker2006au Yuuuuup. The best revenge comes when you’re efficient with your leisure time and go to bed feeling like it was productive. So browsing Steam aimlessly is the enemy and must be defeated.
I came also to accept that today in the last two hours before bedtime I am browsing games. It is part of discovery and wanting something new. Also I can convince myself that gaming before sleep is not doing much good. It can get lengthy, for instance, which will deprive me of precious sleep time. Reading and watching TV if there is still time left, worked for me.
FOMO is real, and it can really take the fun out of things. Literally just playing a game you really want to play feels so much better than playing the game that everyone else is playing
The thing that helped me get over FOMO was the acceleration of the hype cycle. It was always a bad thing I think, but the cycle at least used to last long enough for you to sit and enjoy doing "the popular thing". Now games come and go in like 48 hours. Most of the hype is in the pre-release phase now, then the streamers get early access. That's 80% of the hype; I think more people watch games than actually play them. Then day 1 everyone else binges a speedrun and by day 2 you're the only one still playing. This is also why so many games get unfair hate. Everyone is in such a perpetual FOMO rush that they just beeline for the credits in a single, miserable, sleep deprived sitting, then say the game was bad. No, what was bad was not actually engaging with it in a meaningful way and doing it while you were physically exhausted. If you just acted like a human, you might have had fun.
@@saikimayuBro, it’s so bizarre (for me at least) to see people beat a newly released game in 24 hrs nowadays. That or at least within the week. It’s like everyone is in a race to finish the game quickly. I’ve never understood that, especially with single player games. The experience is the best the first time around. I want to truly enjoy/immerse myself the first time around. It’s mysterious. I kept on getting badgered by one of my coworkers on why I still haven’t finished Tears of the Kingdom. The “race” pressure is so unnecessary.
@@icy1172 For real, and it's crazy in two ways. Not just the speeding through, but also the length of a single session. I thought I had issues but it seems normal to just sit and play for 12+ hours straight. That's insane to me. I don't want to do anything for 12 hours without a break.
Bro I literally cried during this video, thank you for making this man. Felt like that "unnecessary pressure upon myself" applies to a lot of areas in my life too. Going to be living a healthier kinder life from here on forward. Much love to you man
Yeah If you genuinely want to play something, you will not have the problem described in the video. I think it was a giveaway when he mentioned tiredness/sleep deprivation. If you don't have energy, most games aren't really satisfying, and even though your mind/ego thinks you want to play games (due to past positive experiences), it's not what you really want (i.e., it's not what your body wants). So then our lack of energy might make us gravitate to UA-cam for the easy dopamine hits, which certainly isn't helping. But what's suggested in this video wouldn't be helping either (just pick some game and play it anyway), because that would also not be a genuinely relaxing/rejuvenating activity to our bodies. Rather we should do something to actually relax and rejuvenate ourselves, rather than deplete our limited energies with gaming. I.e. we should tune in more with our bodies/emotions, and do something that is better in line with the real state of our body. (It could be reading, watching some light and casual tv-show, take a bath, maybe meditate, or just go to sleep.)
I agree, we've conditioned ourselves to be like "I have free time, to enjoy this I must play videogames", but sometimes you're just not in the mood of that.
I agree. I'm now changing my mindset (I hate that word) to stop trying to play games everyday and change to something else, go to gym after work, watch something on tv, read a book.
i know it seems like a really simple solution, but undoing self-loathing as motivation to keep going is easier said than done. especially when it kept me from doing big mistakes.
doesn't help if the algorithm is so bad it doesn't give you anything good, then continues recommending garbage you clicked "not interested in" about 45 times. yes I'm ranting about youtube being annoying
Thank you man, this really helps because the stress is now just unbearable. It's nice to know that you're not alone and find more people to overcome this issue with.
Ive started clearing my backlog in alphabetical order and that has really helped me. It has taken the decision making out of playing games and i feel like ive been having more fun
What is a backlog? Don't they have those at work? I just have a collection of games I choose from, and play as long as I like not caring about the other ones until I am finished taking my time, even replaying them if they are good. Sometimes I add games to have more to choose from later.
Dude, idk you, I have never watched your channel, and somehow this video comes up on my feed and I decided to watch it. And… holy shit dude it was like you were talking straight to me and calling out exactly what I was just doing in the moment. I’m sitting here sobbing writing this comment. I needed this, and I didn’t even know I did. Thank you, man.
Same man, been working a lot, lots of important decisions and life just throwing so much stuff, moving together with the girlfriend. Staring at the steam library is a recurring phenomenon. Thanks @BBKDRAGOON for saying stuff that i've also heard in real life, but being the last straw to just take time for myself
@@simongh7842 Me too, i've got a huge backlog of games on steam staring me in the face. I think i'm gonna delete all but 3-5 games at least, and not add another until i'm done with a game(don't have to beat it).
I'm the youngest in my family. My oldest brother is 11 yrs my senior. Both of my parents passed away, my dad in 2011, and my mom in 2019. Not having that connection and the safety net to know you'll be ok if you screw up has been stressful. Add to it all the other things happening in my life and in the country at large, it's overwhelming a lot of the time. It was nice to hear you say this, Thanks.
From another internet rando, hang in there. You're doing the best you can, things will get better. Try to find time each day to take a walk outside, even for 5-10 minutes. Just give yourself a chance to take a break.
I'm not gonna lie, I needed to hear this today. I've been so stressed between losing my job and moving that I haven't had time to properly decompress and enjoy myself with video games. Analysis paralysis is so real and not only was this great advice, it was also a kind-hearted reminder of how important self-care is. I unexpectedly cried a lot over this video, so I just wanted to say thank you and I'm glad you made this. A definite subscribe from me.
Things will get better bro I’m in a similar situation and just wanted to lend some kind words ❤️ anything truly good for us will always take time just remember to stay strong and find time to enjoy those little things in life
Things will get better with the job situation, just keep on and keep your chin up. I've been FIRED before; I've had to quit due to IRS stealing 75% of my paycheck (quitting and being unemployed made them leave me alone for 5 YEARS). It took about 7 years of trying different things before I found essentially a dream job working PRIVATELY for a couple, not some darn corporation who erroneously reports my earnings as "income" which almost no one does. I can work part time and still have $ to save. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED. So figure out what YOU want, work hard and stay focused. It may get really hard and scary at times but if you can face the fear and do what you know is right, you can emerge stronger and with better character on the other side.
I do this every single day, and spend some much time choosing, that I end up not actually playing anything and just feel miserable about that fact I wasted what little down time I had. I have been trying to explain the feeling to my friends but found it hard to put it into words. This video sums it up perfectly. I am going to try the approach of just loading up anything, and see where it takes me - thank you.
When was the last time you let ur brain run off on its own? I'm talking about when you're taking public transport or doing something like cleaning or whatever without music or social medias ect. There's some downtime there where u can think about what would be interesting or kinda fun.
4:00 from that point on , bro.. just hugged me.. with words.. thank you man i am really way to hard on myself, and you are right i needed this more than i know
and then i play for 10 minutes and realize i dont wanna play even tho i wanna play, its wierd but im so tired and cant enjoy anything and just wanna sleep all day. i wish i wasn't like this but i cant help it. Just so damn tired all the time... Edit: Thank you all for the supporting comments
thats okay, don't beat yourself up over it. you might have some underlying issues you don't know about (or in my case, i didn't want to acknowledge). whatever it maybe it's not bad to do nothing if you don't feel like anything, but do try to look at what ails you even if it might be difficult to face.
Was the same with me and it was 100% depression in my case. A lot of people think it's basically some advanced form of sadness, but what you described is basically it. No satisfaction, no energy to do anything, and you just want to sleep. If the internet hadn't turned depression into a personality trait more people would realize they're dealing with it.
I think it's the fact that we are so busy with things now compared to before when we were younger with so many obligations that the little bit of free time we do have to play we feel like we are wasting it being unproductive instead of doing something else productive that we later have to fulfill. We always have some sort of chore that we push off that isn't urgent yet and that keeps remaining at the back of our mind preventing us from enjoying the present. I feel the same way when I go on a vacation somewhere, I feel sadden that it will end and that I have to return back to the hell that is reality.
So true as an adult. That inner stress never really seem to go away because you are always worried about something. I enjoy exercising more now tbh. Going for a walk, jogging session or do some pushups seem to calm my stress alot more than video games these days. When I was younger I could sit for hours playing video games and have blast not thinking about anything else. Now I almost get more stressed if I play games. Growing up really sucks the life out of you.
@@Skumtomten1 ofc growing up means many things change, but I'm pretty sure much stress and other problems are due to the shitty society we got today or that the jobs need all of our energy and in return they give us nothing back for our hard work Atleast in most of the cases this seams to be right
For me, If I only have 30 minutes to an hr, I don't want to play anything that requires me to think. I don't want to have to waste that time trying to find a switch or solve a puzzle, or try to figure out where I actually left off and what I need to do. So I either play a racing game or a shooting game that is mindless typically open world where I can just goof off for the time I have. Some games it may take me an hr to figure out the controls AGAIN and remember what I was doing before I left the game the last time.
Yeah, we also have more money now so can just buy the games we want, when we want. When I was a kid, I'd probably get two games a year. One at Christmas, one for my birthday. So I'd play the same game for like 6 months because it's what I had, and I loved it. Now, I have hundreds of games and when I'm playing one I'm thinking "what about that other game". Or I see a sale and buy more games. Things were easier when I was younger, had no money, and games had to last me for half a year before I'd get another.
Makes ya really wish life had an "opt out" option. Not in a unaliving sense but more of a you get bare minimum living accommodations + allowance but without the stress of the grind of bills, rent, work, etc. Life expects too much of us when what some of us really want is time to ourselves to learn what we really want to focus on.
Dude, I absolutely feel this! I've slacked on playing so many rpg games because I feel like I won't enjoy the game session if I get get more that an hour to play. FPS are that quick dopamine hit and I always fall back to.
I rarely comment on videos but that one might be one of the most insightful and interesting game-related videos I have seen in a long time, probably ever. Especially the parts about how games that require constant decision-making drain you, and not to put pressure on yourself. I love this material. Thank you!
I have over a hundred games. Almost every major new release. I can hardly boot up a single game at all. Even though I desperately want to play anything at all. It's been going on for over a year now. I just do nothing but watch UA-cam all day. At the end of the day, I almost feel like crying when I realize I've wasted yet another day off, and now I have to go back to work.
Hey don't feel bad about it, something that helped me a lot was quitting social media at all. No UA-cam, no twitch, no Instagram etc.. I noticed that things that people said about a game influenced me a lot so I wouldn't play it and say it's trash, and when I stopped and completely disappeared everything got better!
Meditation and self discipline could solve it. If you can willpower yourself to stay calm and quiet the mind and breathe, then you’ll gain that power back
I think that´s the main cause: being adults hit us WAY harder than we expected. And having major responsibilities like having a job, living alone, having a gf/wife, etc, it´s taking a toll because we honestly weren´t ready. Sounds weird and arrogant but who knows? maybe it´s true. I don´t hate being an adult, and having responsiblities like that make me feel like i have a purpose on this earth, but i can say that i personally wasn´t ready for any of that due to my living habits before becoming an adult. But now what? welp... society doesn´t care if i´m comfortable or not, or if i have trauma or mental issues; society will keep going on without me, so i´ll relax a little, work on my mental health, accept the fact that whatever i accomplished (or didn´t) is enough, i´ll dedicate times to myself alone, and celebrate accomplishments even if people think they´re trivial, like cleaning my room, etc. And in the end, slowly get back to what society deems "normal", but at MY own pace, not at the pace of others. Just my two cents after years of feeling like this. Hope it gave you a different perspective, or at least i hope it made you feel listened. Have a good one, bro!
This happens to me too. I have thought about making a game schedule, writing down a game to play every day of the week. I haven't done it yet, but I think it may help. I also start to feel guilty when I turn on my PS5 because my free time is so limited. I start to think about everything I need to do.
This is me. I sit on UA-cam the whole day and every hour I'm like, "ok imma finish this video then I'll play something." Then I realize I only got like an hour or two before bed and go well now I can't play anything. I feel exactly the same like I wasted my free time. Hell I'm even doing it right now.
What caught me is the sentence "what if I don't enjoy it? Then my free hour is ruined" - that adds unnecessary pressure. Not just for gaming or fun. But I have mild anxiety disorder, and lately started working on how to ignore the "what if" questions. It affects so many facets of our lives and unless we learn to control it, or ignore it, it can end up as a downward spiral, like it has for me. I think same we can apply here. Back when I was a kid, then also I could get hardly an hour to play a game (else risk getting caught by parents for not studying 😝) - but back then I wasn't haunted by the "what ifs" Maybe because back then, even if a gaming session is ruined, I thought there's still tomorrow, but now as grown ups we're getting too aware of how much little time we actually have after balancing everything else that's going on in our lives. You have articulated the video really well - I believe not just people who are into games, but rather everyone who has been feeling a little overwhelmed, be it for daily stress or anxiety, should watch this video. Will definitely recommend to some people I know.
I just started my first Vacation from work, a Staycation so I can relax and play some games. All day today, I scrolled up and down my steam library and just couldn't decide on what to play, even the games that I have been wanting the time to play, now that I have it, I didn't want to play them anymore. I did exactly what you said in this video and came to UA-cam after giving up, and this was the first video on my recommended. I have never came across your channel before, but I needed this. I needed to hear this video and see that others feel the exact same way. It was like it was reading my mind. Thanks man, this video really helped. I have a huge backlog that I have been wanting to get through and this gave me the push to just pick a game and turn it on. You gained a fan Cheers
good explanation upon the feelings of being exhausted after a long shift and the stress that you gotta do all the work tommorow and the day after and the day after... seriously only a certain kind of people can understand that the time is really limiting when it comes to games.
"Given the choice, players will optimize the fun out of games." This is a quote I found in UA-cam comments a few days ago quoting somebody else but I think it applies here.
Thank you so much for this, it's exactly what I needed to hear. I've been going through this issue for quite some time now. most days I come home from work, and look at my steam library just to decide not to play a game and watch youtube instead. There's even times when I will start a new character on a game I love, and then just.. stop playing, and not go back to that character. But honestly, I think you've inspired me to just go with my gut and pick a game and stick with it, so thank you.
This hits home so much for me. Decision paralysis is a real thing. We've heard the term be used when it comes to streaming services like Netflix, Prime, etc., but it definitely applies to gaming nowadays too. I'm not even a "busy" guy by most peoples standards; I work a 7:30-4 job, weekends off, live alone w/ a single, low maintenance cat. No extra curricular activities. Yet I speed home from work, with plenty of time to do things, but when I sit down to devote it to some gaming, I do the Steam library death scroll... I have my handful of go-to favorites, yet I still find myself going "oh this got an update, should I revisit it?" "I always wanted to try this one, should I dive into this?" I do this for a few minutes and then yeah, sometimes ultimately end up opening Chrome and going to UA-cam. And it's like my brain gets a dopamine fix because being entertained suddenly sounds more desirable that putting "brain energy" into a game, and putting that into words now makes me sad to realize how quickly i give-in to that state :(.
For me, I've found that giving thought to what I want to do when I get home during lunch or my breaks, particularly what game I want to play, helps me come home and just *start* it. No need to choose in the limited time at home, let the job pay me to think about it. 🤣
Happened a lot to me too and still does but I know what to do. Just do one thing at a time. Play, watch, etc. If you gotta binge watch a show do it one show at a time till completed, play the games that make YOU happy. Don't worry about missing out etc don't give a fuck. Having fun is what matters. I like watching anime and play my favorite Dragon ball Games on my laptop and it makes me happy. Of course there's other games I wanna play but when I do gotta take it one game at a time.
Thank you so much for posting this. You made me realize that me playing the same games over and over is okay. Having to force myself to play and enjoy a game/genre just because everyone raves about it is horrible. Do what you enjoy!
I was having trouble sleeping even though it's the weekend, I feel so overwhelmed and stressed out about everything. Glad I came across this video, I don't really have anyone I can vent to so this helped a lot.
This is literally soooo meeee for the past couple of years i think its just depression being super busy and just being indecisive and not knowing what to put my time in
If it's just depression then I suggest just going out for some fresh air, whether it be getting gas, going out for food, or just going for a 30 minute drive. Having the clear blue sky above you instead of a ceiling does wonders for your mental health.
not only is this exactly what i needed to hear, but the gameplay you chose in the background is honestly one of my favourite games. The metro series is so good, i love that series to bits and the books are just as good.
I have some solid tips to share that helped me 🙏🏻 •Never buy into the hype of a game, only play when you are ready! (You aint missing out on anything if you eventually play it) •Play a game your interested in completely blind (discovering the ins and outs of a game by yourself is so fucking fun and need to he respected more) •Keep your rotation of games small! I stick to about 3 games. My rotation at the moment is; Eldern Ring w/ seamless co op Starfield Minecraft (first time playing hardcore and with mods) •Respect your time! If the game is boring you... Making you rage... Or is grindy for the sake of it then delete it and move on, have no mercy with it •Try different genres/styles of games! It can simply open up options for you in the future. Learned this after playing Div 2, thought i would hate that style of game but now i crave it 😭 •Have zero tolerance for games that make you rage especially! Makes absolutely no sense booting up a game knowing it will make you rage. Think about it, its honestly the dumbest thing you can do. •Avoid playing with people that demand you use the meta, especially if the game is easy (destiny 2) or you are playing casuals (rainbow 6) at the end of the day you paid £40-60 from your hard earned money so play how ever the fuck you want! Gaming should always be fun! (If fun comes from winning, then obviously playing meta is a good idea. if it means you can win more that is) And Most importantly!! •Go easy on consuming UA-cam content on a game your interested in!Too much content and im feeling burned out before ive even started playing. I tend to go hard on watching content after completing a game and/or its out of my rotation. Or if a game is super complicated then i tend to watch beginner tips videos to get me started. Honestly cant recommend this enough. These are just my tips, this has helped me enjoy gaming again! This wont work for everyone but if it helps just alittle then it was worth ranting 😇
Thank you BBK, you have no idea how much this simple message spoke to me, I have been watching since middle school when all I did was game while listening to Destiny the Show with 0 pressure on myself. Now I'm 23 graduated college but I constantly feel like a failure or that I am somehow wrong in the way I am and I haven't allowed myself to enjoy the many blessings I have and even worse, that all will be taken away and I will have to start over again. I will try to trully apply this message and stop putting unfair pressure on myself, thank you again.
Thanks Vlad, try to be take it easy on yourself. Thanks for the support over the years. Life can be really hard, so stay strong and be good to yourself
Man as a gamer of like 25 years now I hear this so much and you make so many great points that are so easily to overlook. We do put so much stress on our freetime, its free time, its supposed to be freedom right? But we lean on ourselves to be somehow arbitrarily 'productive' for some reason. Sometimes I dont wanna play, so I watch some stuff about games I enjoy instead. and chill out like watching a cool TV show. BE NICER TO YOURSELF. Thats the key take away from this vid I think. Great video !
When I was a kid it was easier to get immersed into games and have fun. Now I am constantly thinking about just going back to work and other things I need to do like chores and appointments. I need a long vacation or retire to relinquish myself of responsibilities and enjoy games again without a worry in the world.
My theory is that this is the main reason why we don't enjoy video games as much when we get older. People say you grow out of playing video games when you get older, and while it is true to some extent it is not the main reason. The main reason is that it's much harder to enjoy and become immersed in a game when you are constantly stressed about life in general.
@@swagcereal I don't think they're chillin' as much as you think. They HAVE to go through games to keep making content. It's an endless slog for them too
True. I find it so hard not to think I have this or that to do. I often keep checking the time too, and even when I ticked everything off my to do list for the day, I still feel like i should be doing more instead of gaming. It's a struggle I haven't found a solution to because you're never truly done, there's always more you could be doing.
Dude. I'm currently going through a seperation and have been having this issue a lot. Hours stuck scrolling through my library and feeling worse about everything when I do. This is exactly what I needed to hear! Appreciate you brother, keep up the awesome work!
Hello there, Psychologist here ! Here are 2 fun facts : - There's no such thing about not being motivated. You're either motivated to do the thing you want to do, or you're motivated to do something else. - Boredom always comes when your brain compares one thing you're doing with another you could be doing instead, and you'll often pick the less boring, making it entertaining. This being said : if you are in a position where you don't feel like anything but you want to play at something, here's a trick : Instead of scrolling or binge watching, get off your computer, lay down and close your eyes until you can think about what you are more motivated to do / play. You will either eventually stand up because you're bored to just do nothing with your eyes closed and will find what bores you less, or you will take a nap because you could also use that. Anyway Good luck, Have fun !
came here to learn why I can't pick a game to play, but here I am leaving with a valuable info that I can apply in different aspects of me life. Thank youu!!
Amazing trick. I now recall doing something similar. Last time was when I wanted to finish my website, but was binging youtube instead for the whole day. Eventually I was like "this is boring". Put the phone down. Still sitting in my armchair. Reclined and closed my eyes. ... "yep, here we go" went on and finished my website. Felt good.
Hello i am 42 and i ve been a gamer almost all my life. These last years when i finally find a game that i truly love, i don't want to finish it. I mean... i may stop playing just before the final battle.
@@MrWowtanking i also have this. When I feel like the game comes to conclusion I'll prolong the ending as long as possible to the point I might not open the game anymore.
This video helped me a lot. I’ve been stuck in a pretty deep rut because of working full-time and also having so many other things on my mind and I kept worrying that maybe I’m outgrowing video games since I’ve been gaming since I was a child and I don’t want to outgrow gaming tbh. Thank you for making this video to help others that are in a similar situation and don’t know what to do.
I have this issue a lot looking at my steam library and wondering what to play. I’d just sit there alone, wanting to play something but now with this video maybe I can just play again, thanks.
Same here and so many games require a lot of time until you finally reach a point ingame that is actually fun! Then you quit for a while and have to relearn everything lmao. I'd love to excessively play all games and micromanage+min/max everything and immerse myself into the story, but that's impossible, because life is limited, duh! But many devs don't get it and think their game is the next WoW or BG3... and you have to learn the mechanics and dedicate 100+ hours for it. This needs to change! Games should receive some sort of a relaxing fun mode. At my age I prefer easily accessible games such as Battlebit, FIFA, Skater XL, Shredders and simultaneously stream YT or Netflix while shutting down my brain lol. But I love so much other genres and sim games, but damn they're too complex and when I boot one up, I quit after 15 mins, because it feels like work. The decision part is also very hard. Sometimes I even struggle where to play (UWA monitor, on the sofa via TV, handheld in bed or outside). Sometimes I wish I had that motivation to give my time for a game like I gave for WoW, Elite Dangerous, C&C 1/TS, ArmA and some others many years/decades ago. And imagine, there was a time where we could only choose out of a bunch of games, cuz we couldn't afford more. At least I haven't used the word "bored" for decades and when I manage to enter a complex game and don't quit after 15 mins, I end up enjoying its atmosphere and thankfully I reached the point where I'm satisfied without the urge of having to finish it (and I'm rather the completionist type). I bet many of us have tried to comfort our minds by saying: "When I'm retired, I'll finally dedicate my time for gaming". Meanwhile I'm like: "When I'm dead, there hopefully will be a place beyond time and some sort of a creation/unlimited decisions mode, so I can replay it all!" Oh and of course without decision making problems xD
God dang it, you show up every time I lose motivation to play a game, and every time I see this video, It reminds me to take breaks, and just play to enjoy. Thank you for that!
5:00 "just push back" i know youtube is not a substitute for actual therapy but this honestly felt like a revelation, i gasped a little thank you for this video
Man this video was incredibly therapeutic for me, I constantly find myself stuck in "analysis paralysis" with 2 kids one who is autistic and a 3 month old girl, then my business, my free time is almost none existent and that pressure is crazy to decide what to do with it. I needed to hear all of this and I'm going to try to just lighten up I guess. 😃 Thank you BBK!
thanks mate, your video is super refreshing, the positive talks, and the bgm that feels so refreshing indeed, life is already hard, just dont make it harder to ourself
I find the worst is when you finish a game that really had you hooked, and you just can't play anything else. After I finished the Ascent, nothing really scratched the same itch, and I just couldn't decide what to do lol
I remember getting that feeling for the first time with Halo Reach, then again with Transformers FoC. Both during the XBox 360 days. There have been few games that achieved that with me, the most recent being Cyberpunk 2077. And once I beat that I just felt like I had nothing else left. Haha, truly a "You didn't beat the game, the game beat you moment" moment.
I recently finished a game and went to play a new one. I looked at my backlog spreadsheet (yes im an accountant), finally picked a game, and then went to play it, but it wasn’t installed so I just picked a different one randomly haha.
Needed to hear this. However a lot of the games I want to play are unfortunately filled with mechanics that dont always respect my time. I understand it because i dont want the game to be too casual because then it isnt that. But checkpoints go a long way when you come home from a physically demanding job and only have so long to play. Before i had a job i used to love games having me start over from a good while back. Now i get where others are coming from. Its pretty enlightening
Yeah, this is why emulating old games is still feasible really for us old gamers that struggle with finding the time. Because emulators come with Save States that let you save wherever you want, regardless of the games saving and loading mechanics. Same goes with some PC games where people have created mods that change how the saving system works for that game, though not as widespread as emulating older systems.
I really needed this feel-good reassurance that it's not me just growing out of it and it being time to move on. Its about enjoying the time that I have, doing the things that I like to do. Thank you for that reminder!
Thank you for this. I was sitting at my computer in tears because all I've wanted to do lately is game but cannot bring myself to play anything and I pulled up youtube and this was literally on my page. Your thoughts made so much sense that it made me feel better because I was thinking "I guess this is life in my 30s, maybe I just cant game anymore" but thats not the case. Ive been sleep deprived and over worked and have too many games on Steam but ima just click play. I think it's time I finally finish Arthur Morgan's story.
I recently replayed rdr1 and spent a lot of time exploring in chapter 2/early 3, before the gang feels like my messed up distant cousins. It was so much fun, Charles tracked me down at least twice.
Imagine having far too much free-time, as a matter of current circumstance, looking through your Steam Library, GoG Library, whatever you may have on PS5 - And wasting time on trying to decide what to play. I have roughly 50 games installed on Steam, with around 8 or so from GoG and I cannot for the life of me decide what to play. I could have 4 - 6 hours to kill, play whatever I want, and I just stare at my list, and time couldn't give two shits, it's now 1:00 AM and I managed to do next to nothing. Not that I don't enjoy the games I have, what I need to finish, what I could have a session with some mates, but the constant nature of being so indecisive. Hopefully I can change that.
BBK, you are one of about 10 UA-camrs I have followed now for over 10 years consistently. 10 might sound like a lot, but it's really not when you consider how long 10 years is and how many channels exist. Keep up the good work dude.
Since having a kid, I've been having this problem. I have a hard time playing new games due to indecision. I always go back to tried and tested games like Skyrim, Fallout, and FF series.
Yeah, same here. I have 2 kids under 3, and gaming for me is pretty much non-existent. I agree with games like skyrim and Fallout since you can pause when you need to. Games like overwatch or other quick games where I can squeeze in 1 or 2 rounds have been good because, on an average day, 20 minutes is all I have time to play.
@@Highway_Tollman Yes! I tried playing COD a few months back but I just couldn't play it for more than 30 minutes at a time. It's very tiring for me. Must be my age.😆
Same my sone will be 1 next month and honestly it's been a little hard being entertained by games unless they're something that I teal want to play or have been anticipating.
I mean, it's kind of expected that you'll have significantly less time with kids around. Should've not decided to have them if you weren't sure if you want that additional responsibility eating into your time.
@@123Suffering456 I'm not complaining about having a kid tho. I'm just sharing my experience. I wouldn't trade fatherhood for the world. But I agree, having kids is not for everyone, especially if you're stingy with you time and attention.
Around the same age and I agree with VR. That made games feel like the good old days again. Also I highly recommend Outer Wilds since there is no other game I can compare it to and it is probably in my top 5 favorite games. It's weird since it's less of a game and more of an amazing entertainment experience. My favorite games are action based and I hate reading in games but Outer Wilds is about solving a mystery by reading with no combat and no upgrades and I still think it is amazing. The only gamey part of it is probably flying the ship. If you do play it, don't look up gameplay since it is not linear and can be spoiled to the point of not being able to play it by just watching a minute or two of gameplay. Your initial impression from the graphics, will be that it is some little simple indie game but it is definitely not that. Also be prepared to not have a clue about what is going on until the last 1-2 hours of the game.
I wonder at times when I will reach that point. I generally try to avoid buying & playing games that are questionable to me. At least until they’re on a deep sale. Or I don’t have any really good games to play.
I feel that. Games just don’t impress me anymore. Game mechanics just annoy me. Everything is online required. If I get overwhelmed when starting up a new game, with text, or complex menus, or an exhaustive tutorial my interest just goes away. I’m also almost 50 years old with no life and depression. So there’s that.😂
Very nice video man! I have a lot of (probably) great games in my backlog I want to play, but I mostly just come back to one of my 3 favorite game series instead of starting something new.
I think when people do this kind of talking head over video game footage, they should put a small banner when a game shows up with the name of the game. I think it adds a bit of premium feel, and the viewer might see something they like and want to try it out. Like 0:55 is definitely some kind of monster hunter, but which one? I see the list in the pinned comment, but making a template now in AE or finding one, then just having a little pop out tag in the bottom that you have to give it the text, that'd be pretty cool.
Agree. The issue with that is that it feels like losing an hour of fun time. I work ten hours a day from 4am. Married with kids. So I have little free time. I often choose a hobby like making music or gaming just for some relaxation instead of (probably) doing the more sensible thing and sleeping.
Then you feel like all you do is sleep and work. When I started working respiratory therapist doing 7p-7a shifts I would go home, get breakfast, then go to sleep. I'd then wake up, take a shower, go to work. Repeat ad nauseam. I hated everything because for five day stretches at a time it felt like I had no life to live, only work. Now I force myself to stay up until 9:30-10AM and have some time to myself before I go to sleep and go back to work.
Because I need to have some fun. Sleep would be the responsible thing to do, but after doing nothing but work and other obligations all day I don't want to just be unconscious. Also when you sleep it just means that that stuff is coming back all the sooner.
I personally have a list of my favorite single player games. I let my Xbox select which one I play. If Xbox decides I’m playing Red dead redemption 2, I play red dead redemption 2 to credits and remove it from my list and then select the surprise me option on Xbox again for another game to play through. The list is full of games I know I have already enjoyed and new games I will most likely enjoy, so it’s pretty much a guaranteed good time.
I used to do this on my steam deck with a plug-in from Decky loader, but it stopped working recently and it doesn't look like the devs are active anymore.
It's sad that it has come to this. I honestly think k the real reason why people can pick a game anymore is because they aren't as fun as they used to be.
@@Hallelujah3r could be true for some people, but for most it’s probably just choice overload. “Overchoice or choice overload[1] is the paradoxical phenomenon that choosing between a large variety of options can be detrimental to decision making processes.” I for one still have fun playing the games the randomizer gives me, I just have too many good games too choose from so when I do choose one for myself I feel as if I made a mistake. It’s such a first world problem, but a problem non the less. 🤷♂️
I just got rid of a lot of games and only kept the ones I REALLY want. Now I pick one game, and I don't let myself play another until that one is thoroughly 100 percent complete. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for that game, in which case I just do something that isn't playing a game. It's a better life balance, and it helps filter my choices. What I've noticed in my method is a regression to older games. I started replaying Perfect Dark. It took me like 2 hours to beat it on easy, but there's plenty of other content to keep me playing it for a while. These games now that have 40 hour campaigns and take 1,000 hours to 100%...I'm done with that. No game is sophisticated enough to justify that - it's all padding and artificial/intentional inconveniencing. Those games are DESIGNED to WASTE your time so you will just sit there and get milked. I'm not doing that anymore. There are more than enough different games to last me the rest of my life without sinking a whole year into just one of them. I'm also a lot more discerning about what I pick, because once I start I am locked into that so it's a real commitment. There are plenty of games that are "fun enough". I'd probably enjoy them, but do I care enough to fully commit like that? The answer is usually no. This stops me from just "scrolling" through games as a time waster. I have a clearly defined project with a start and end point. One of the biggest mental detriments of "scrolling" through games is that you get in the habit of never finishing anything. It's all just impulsive distraction and that rewires your brain in a way that negatively affects your mood and other areas of your real life. It took me years to really stick to my method and I "fell off the wagon" plenty of times...always regretted it too. The whole thing really mimics substance addiction. My first "this needs to change" moment was around 2008 when I was really into MMORPGs. At some point I just sat back and thought "this never ends, and I'm spending so much time working towards...nothing."
This is how I normally play, stick with it from start to finish. But that gets hard when playing with friends most of the time because they always want to play something new after a few days and that is difficult for me. Then the times I just want to chill and play my own game I cannot quite get into because I know someone will hit me up to play with them. Its a hard choice a lot of times because I do enjoy playing with my friends, just gets exhausting sometimes. Thats why in February I was like ok I need a break from y'all and took the month off from them and focused on just playing the Witcher 3 for the first time from start to finish. That was a fun month of vacation, I miss Gwent haha.
Age 50 gamer all my life been a pro for a bit bf2 and now have all the time in the world to game because I've retired. But I'm badly disabled and now and find it painful sitting or standing, i can lay in bed, but it's just a bit too much trouble to set up. This is breaking my heart. In an old stale marriage, things are not fun anymore. I was going to take care of things a while ago, and rimworld saved me at the time. Thank you . I spend my time now sitting around watching much loved box sets over and over again like a zombie out of on meds. like the ones I used to shoot in the past. Just goes to show you never know what's going to happen. I do miss my old gaming buddies 😢
Brother I feel for you had a similar experience where I wasn't able to play had friends that just kept getting me to join chat even though I would just dip after a few minutes until I started to look forward to being able to just be a part in that capacity
The truth is that UA-cam will give dopemine much quicker than videogames will. Morrowind is my favorite game of all time, but I can't just sit down and play it in an hour or less because you have to take your time to really enjoy it.
@@pseudonymos_ Especially slower RPGs like Morrowind. I love that game, but if I don't have a solid 3 hours to play it I won't bother booting it up for that exact reason
My favorite game ever is Dragon Age Origins and it's a similar type of game. Big rpg that gets better the more time you put into it, you get more immersed and drawn into the world the more you play. I just can't play those games anymore. I just don't have the time or desire to start that kinda game now. It's kinda sad because sometimes I want to do another playthrough of that game, but when I start it up I just feel exhausted and want to do something else instead. As I have gotten older I honestly prefer watching youtube over playing games myself.
people have some good taste in here, Morrowind and DAO are legendary games but indeed not something you'd sit down and play for like 20 minutes then stop
Also doesn't help that YT Shorts are a thing now, I noticed some UA-camrs and content creators don't make a video longer than 10 minutes unless they cater to a certain niche community
Damn, man, I kinda needed this. Thanks. We so often in life turn our pleasures into obligations, and that can ultimately lead to utter misery that we don't even know we've cooked up to begin with.
Other factors that may contribute to that decision paralysis with games is the type of games you often play. Online-centered games like multiplayer games may make you worried about maybe feeling pressured to join other friends playing online when you don't intend to play for long or you want to play alone. Competitive multiplayer games can make you hesitant about playing because you're afraid of going on a losing streak and feeling unsatisfied with your playing session. Games with sign-in screens, long load-times, or requirements of other applications running the background may make you hesitant to play them because they ask you to commit your time and a chunk of your pc's resources before even playing them. What helped me was to get single-player games on sale that were quick to boot up and play, with a story or premise that interested me, and had some way to save progress frequently.
Solution is the same for most of us: do something else. As much as we love gaming, we played for years, it is time to do something else with our life. Watching a movie, going to the gym, speaking to a friend, starting a new activity. When you start wondering what game to boot, you are already cooked my friend, shut down the pc, it is self care :)
@@damienc7303because in the game you’re the one making decisions and thinking about the next thing to do. Movies you can just sit back watch the story unfold in front of you. As I’ve gotten older I’ve also started getting into movies more, because it is something different.
Im glad you talked about this. I literally typed "I cant pick a game to play" into the search bar. Lmao. I always revert back to old favorites. Instead of trying new things. Because I have TOO many games I paid for that sit there unused.
I played Siege for like 900 hours (a lot for me) and then I realized what my mom meant when she said video games were my religion. Sorry mom. I think it’s because the games that are popular are the games our friends play, so we drain our energy on something familiar so when it’s to to invest time into something else we just go back to what we know… but then it start to drain us more and more, and then games are no longer fun.
100% agree with this, it takes me like a few days before deciding that Im gonna put time and effort into a game, and with all these digital game sales almost everyday, im stuck with the dilemma of heaps of games, but somehow no games
I love games more than anyone and it's all I used to do. And then at a certain age I stopped enjoying them and i could feel the years going by and I realised you get ONE life. It was hard at first, but I put the controller down and started doing the things I always wanted to, rock climbing, skateboarding, spending time with friends and family. I've been like this for a couple of years now and whenever I come back to games I LOVE it! The reason you're sick of games is because you do it too much. Get some other hobbies and you'll enjoy gaming much more
Black Myth looks like it could be decent. Still skeptical though. Apart from that, GTA 6 will be the next game that everyone knows will bang. Prior to all this, RDR2, Elden ring. I mean yeah there’s just been nothing good! The new Gran Turismo and Forza games were all crap. Call of Duty & FIFA has been crap for years. BF2042 was abysmal. Free to play / Battle Royal games are tiring and quite honestly ruining the scene. Ubisoft haven’t made a top tier game in forever. GoW Ragnarok was a reskin disappointment. Spider Man is woke and bullshit. I mean I could ramble all day! Gaming is so depressing these days man
I mostly feel like this because of the lack of content, modern games sucks, television sucks, and UA-cam sucks, and since there’s a lot to avoid because of politics in games, tv shows, radio, and UA-cam, it’s hard to avoid!
I wouldn't say they are shit but they are all build from the same recipe. So they become boring really really fast because they all feel like you played them before.
That's because you have a thousand times bigger selection of the game, even if 9/10 of them underwhelming it still leaves you with 100 times bigger selection of the good games...
@@jcbass8847 it is true. 10 years ago you had at least 5 - 10 great tripple A releases a year. Always something good to play. Nowadays you just resort to playing Skyirim or GTA V for the 9 billionth time because the new games are a sea of woke garbage not worthy of sailing.
I think most games are so bloated that i feel like im overwhelmed knowing how much of a time commitment it will require to finish. I think going forward, im not going to play open world games anymore.
This video was much more than I thought it would be, in a good way. The way you explained so many of our feelings really hits home. I felt like you were reading my mind, which just goes to show that we all experience these things; like you said, mostly due to the stresses of life. The past few months have been ROUGH for many reasons, and I recently bought and started replaying Farcry 4, a game/series I've replayed countless times as a comfort game, and you hit that point too. Gears of war and diablo 3 are close 2nds, chainsawing locusts and killing demons(diablo 3)never gets old
The lawbreakers clip got u another sub
Thanks the youtube algorithm for suggesting your vid to me. This situation keeps happenning to me too many times.
The worst is when you're at work or school thinking about what you wanna play when you get home. And when you get home you don't feel like playing anything
Hell, why does this happen? What is wrong with the human mind!
I thinks it’s because your mind is on it all day for hours. I believe your brain almost satisfies itself by thinking about the game but then you get home and you’re tired and worrying about the next day.

This happens every ducking day, I feel u
@@hd3adpool overthinking. I try to not think of any game while at work. 😅 helps me to focus even more too
The problem is, whenever I finally pick a game I wanna play, I boot it up and about a minute into it, I don't feel like playing anymore..
:D having a lot of stuff you like to do like this honestly makes life feel way more fulfilling and u hardly get these moments where u dont feel like doing anything! also it can rly help to change scenery when ur doing other things, like if u usually play games in ur room go sit on ur couch or outside while u watch a show or sketch or whatever variety is good for u :D
quick edit 2 months later of some stuff i wanted to include originally but didnt bc a lot of ppl seem to appreciate this advice:
ive personally dealt with depression my entire life, and a lot of the stuff i talked about in my original comment went hand in hand with my experience with depression, i just didnt want to assume others who felt this way were also depressed so i didnt talk about them. but if u feel the same way i would recommend a few rly tiny things that have really helped me..
first, please do not play games with all your lights off its so bad for your eyes and your mental health, try to let sunlight into your room whenever you can. also make ur bed and tidy up ur area whenever you have the energy/motivation to do it. if you're not sure when the next time youll feel productive is, you should focus on things like this that will make you feel better, safer, and more comfortable in your space, other things can wait ^^ also there is nothing wrong with just laying in bed and doing nothing for a few hours sometimes you need that and you shouldn't be upset at yourself for it! last thing, if you're sitting at your pc with some free time wanting to do something but you dont feel like doing anything, it can start to feel really frustrating and it makes it harder to pick. often times id just give up and go lay in bed BUT ive found that taking a quick hot shower helps me like reorganize my brain and just helps my mood a LOT and by the time im done i dont really feel like im staring at this brick wall anymore :p ik it sounds silly but idk it works for me
hope ur all doing well

The powers that be (our tech overlords) want us to consume and move on to the next product within 60 seconds (EDIT: it's so they can push more ads per hour).
It's so hard to concentrate now.

im slowly starting to think youtube is reading my mind
No, don't give them that confirmation!
I’m glad I’m not the only person thinking this
it just did the same to me
Same. Just today I went to game and couldn't choose anything. Almost creepy.
An excellent tendency to have if you really want to get your money's worth out of those games.
Especially when I want to use Minsc and Jaheira for the Sarevok and Viconia encounters.

get out of my head please. but in all honesty, I've even debated quiting YT, because of this
Hey no need to call me out like that damn
I can't pick a game because EVERY DAY my life is full of stress since the last 18 months. So I need something fun that doesn't stress me more...
I understand that
Usually when I pick a really easy game that I'm confident won't stress me out more than I already am, I end up getting bored of it. I'll then pick a more difficult game that I'm sure won't bore me and but then I'm too exhausted to play it...
try jrpg games
Sim games, city builders, social/co-op games. Those are what I go to for stress relief. Save the twitch shooters, fighting games, and precise platformers for when you aren't stressed. Bonus points for goofy or beautiful games.
Graveyard keeper/superliminal
Repeat and repeat.
i feel you man
You really at a certain point just gotta pick yourself up and tell yourself “Enough is enough”
Now this is only my point of view and idk your current financial situation, but maybe take a little time from work to plan out a rough schedule. Nothing too detailed, and set everyday goals that will later turn into habits. I have severe ADHD and mild depression and this helped me through everything you’ve described. Also meeting with people, friends, family more often or whenever you can. Nothing is hopeless, and I hope you’re able to figure out something that works
All the best
I needed someone to write it out like you did. Thank you for that. Certainly relate to the problem. Pick, stick and attack.
I say this to myself when writing music too, then I just get demotivated because it doesn't matter what I SAY, it matters what I DO, and I just revert to the same old.
@@Gaegplays I get you so painfully well. It's like a curse to be this unmotivated
You're Right . I Have dis problem every day and i've really lost my momentum due to indecisiveness when its time to pick a beat
you got this
We create our own hell.
Dude. A nighttime walk. That's exactly what i'll do right now.
Nicely put. I also have revenge bedtime procrastination which I imagine alot of others in this circumstance do too
@@walker2006au Yuuuuup.
Exactly.. 🤔
@@saikimayu I agree
@@saikimayuyou are so right
@@saikimayuBro, it’s so bizarre (for me at least) to see people beat a newly released game in 24 hrs nowadays.
I don't want to do anything for 12 hours without a break.
literally spend the last 2 hours in steam lib and now binge this video
Bro I literally cried during this video, thank you for making this man. Felt like that "unnecessary pressure upon myself" applies to a lot of areas in my life too. Going to be living a healthier kinder life from here on forward. Much love to you man
It's because your not in the mood to game but we've programmed ourselves to try and game everyday.
I agree. Sometimes you just have to do something else. Another hobby maybe.. or even spending time with other people.
@@visatapani thanks man, it's a simple but very effective advice
I agree, we've conditioned ourselves to be like "I have free time, to enjoy this I must play videogames", but sometimes you're just not in the mood of that.

What is a backlog? Don't they have those at work? I just have a collection of games I choose from, and play as long as I like not caring about the other ones until I am finished taking my time, even replaying them if they are good. Sometimes I add games to have more to choose from later.
The Yakuza games that I will never finish

Try to find time each day to take a walk outside, even for 5-10 minutes. Just give yourself a chance to take a break.
I'm not gonna lie, I needed to hear this today. I've been so stressed between losing my job and moving that I haven't had time to properly decompress and enjoy myself with video games.

I am going to try the approach of just loading up anything, and see where it takes me - thank you.

thats okay, don't beat yourself up over it. you might have some underlying issues you don't know about (or in my case, i didn't want to acknowledge). whatever it maybe it's not bad to do nothing if you don't feel like anything, but do try to look at what ails you even if it might be difficult to face.
I usually get excited to play something then boot the game up and as soon I get to the main menu I quit as I’m already tired of it
welcome to post 2020
Exactly same here man, i feel you, getting home thinking you will play something fun but you just dont have the energy to do that
I think it's the fact that we are so busy with things now compared to before when we were younger with so many obligations that the little bit of free time we do have to play we feel like we are wasting it being unproductive instead of doing something else productive that we later have to fulfill.
@@Skumtomten1 ofc growing up means many things change, but I'm pretty sure much stress and other problems are due to the shitty society we got today or that the jobs need all of our energy and in return they give us nothing back for our hard work
Atleast in most of the cases this seams to be right
For me, If I only have 30 minutes to an hr, I don't want to play anything that requires me to think.
FPS are that quick dopamine hit and I always fall back to.
same here, for me I like to fire up dr mario and play that for like 15-20 minutes or so if an rpg feels like too much
THIS IS LITERALLY EXACTLY HOW I FEEL
I have a huge backlog that I have been wanting to get through and this gave me the push to just pick a game and turn it on.

good explanation upon the feelings of being exhausted after a long shift and the stress that you gotta do all the work tommorow and the day after and the day after... seriously only a certain kind of people can understand that the time is really limiting when it comes to games.
"Given the choice, players will optimize the fun out of games." This is a quote I found in UA-cam comments a few days ago quoting somebody else but I think it applies here.
I'm pretty sure this quote comes from the creator of the Civilization games
Creators from Path of exile also mentioned it
"Perfect is the enemy of Good enough." That's the quote that comes to mind about this.
I have my handful of go-to favorites, yet I still find myself going "oh this got an update, should I revisit it?" "I always wanted to try this one, should I dive into this?"
I do this for a few minutes and then yeah, sometimes ultimately end up opening Chrome and going to UA-cam. And it's like my brain gets a dopamine fix because being entertained suddenly sounds more desirable that putting "brain energy" into a game, and putting that into words now makes me sad to realize how quickly i give-in to that state :(.
They have perfected the algorithm to keep us trapped. I'm closing Chrome now and starting a game 😂
That's me , got a ton of time but just can't decide what to play or watch and I don't feel like playing ranked and end up playing 100 death matches

@@NotThatGuyPal. That's definitely what it is
If it's just depression then I suggest just going out for some fresh air, whether it be getting gas, going out for food, or just going for a 30 minute drive. Having the clear blue sky above you instead of a ceiling does wonders for your mental health.
I needed to hear this man, backlog fatigue is real. Remember, you own your games, your games don't own you.

not only is this exactly what i needed to hear, but the gameplay you chose in the background is honestly one of my favourite games. The metro series is so good, i love that series to bits and the books are just as good.
I have some solid tips to share that helped me 🙏🏻
•Never buy into the hype of a game, only play when you are ready! (You aint missing out on anything if you eventually play it)
•Play a game your interested in completely blind (discovering the ins and outs of a game by yourself is so fucking fun and need to he respected more)
•Keep your rotation of games small! I stick to about 3 games. My rotation at the moment is;

•Respect your time! If the game is boring you... Making you rage... Or is grindy for the sake of it then delete it and move on, have no mercy with it
•Try different genres/styles of games! It can simply open up options for you in the future. Learned this after playing Div 2, thought i would hate that style of game but now i crave it 😭
•Have zero tolerance for games that make you rage especially!
(If fun comes from winning, then obviously playing meta is a good idea. if it means you can win more that is)
And Most importantly!!
Thank you. 🙂

@@BBKDRAGOON 'Why You Can't Pick A game To Play....', huh....
@@Skumtomten1yep why you think walkthrough youtubers are chillin, its there job and they can just be immersed and play
@@123Suffering456 That's exactly how I feel, the constant thinking that I should be doing something else... improving, working, studying...

Hello there, Psychologist here !
Here are 2 fun facts :
- There's no such thing about not being motivated.

As a friend said to me,
"Time spent is time well spent."
Just stumbling randomly on your video and funnily enough this is what i need to see/hear/watch at this moment in time. Thank you
This video helped me a lot.
We need friends good ones I can’t play anything because I don’t have good friends

I find the worst is when you finish a game that really had you hooked, and you just can't play anything else. After I finished the Ascent, nothing really scratched the same itch, and I just couldn't decide what to do lol
That was a good game, I agree.
Yup, did the same with the Yakuza series before Like a Dragon released. I remember finishing 6 and going, “well shit… now what?”
Oh yeah, i have that with cyberpunk big time. Done 900 hours in it ish.. There is no game like it.
@@fenrispedersen8935 not an fps, but I'd highly recommend the ascent, extremely good cyberpunk aesthetic.

Tahiti, Arthur.
I recently replayed rdr1 and spent a lot of time exploring in chapter 2/early 3, before the gang feels like my messed up distant cousins. It was so much fun, Charles tracked me down at least twice.
It’s usually simple for me, I just replay RE4 Remake, or Mass Effect Legendary Edition for the millionth time.
Forgot about mass effect, gonna do another playthrough soon. Just tried to play Elex again but it feels a little cheesy
Man... I needed this, thank you so much. It's like a friend was talking to me and this made a big difference.

Try VR brother 🤝
Games come out unfinished, so what's the point? You can't really get into it because some fix it all updates are coming.
So there’s that.😂
I haven't wasted my last 8:02! Thank you!!
Yes! Fully agree.
Alternate and ... I know, crazy idea ... If you can't decide and you are tired and sleep deprived ... how about an additional hour of sleep?
Agree. The issue with that is that it feels like losing an hour of fun time. I work ten hours a day from 4am. Married with kids. So I have little free time. I often choose a hobby like making music or gaming just for some relaxation instead of (probably) doing the more sensible thing and sleeping.
@@keithprice1950 10 hour shifts are such a pain, its not even because of being at work for 10 hours, its cause of how little free time you get...
Is that with the “Surprise me!” option? Yeah it’s a fun random way to pick a game haha
I used to do this on my steam deck with a plug-in from Decky loader, but it stopped working recently and it doesn't look like the devs are active anymore.
As sad as it is to say; it's genuinely hard for me to play games without this plug in.
Needed to hear this.
Thanks man.
The truth is that UA-cam will give dopemine much quicker than videogames will. Morrowind is my favorite game of all time, but I can't just sit down and play it in an hour or less because you have to take your time to really enjoy it.
Video games make you wait and earn your feel good juice. UA-cam will eject it straight into your brain.
Sorry it sounds a bit rude but… How is watching a movie different or better than playing a game ?
@@damienc7303because in the game you’re the one making decisions and thinking about the next thing to do. Movies you can just sit back watch the story unfold in front of you. As I’ve gotten older I’ve also started getting into movies more, because it is something different.

Stop calling me out…
100% agree with this, it takes me like a few days before deciding that Im gonna put time and effort into a game, and with all these digital game sales almost everyday, im stuck with the dilemma of heaps of games, but somehow no games
Get some other hobbies and you'll enjoy gaming much more
I think the problem is just there aren't many good games anymore, like 90% of games coming out are complete shit.
This isn't true at all. Maybe AAA games, you should educate yourself on what's available out there.

The past few months have been ROUGH for many reasons, and I recently bought and started replaying Farcry 4, a game/series I've replayed countless times as a comfort game, and you hit that point too. Really amazing stuff here and clearly an experienced mind. This video goes so much further than gaming, advice that can be applied to many aspects of life. You have earned yourself a well-deserved sub :)
