Alas sir you’re correct and incorrect. James said himself he enjoyed master of puppets so much because it related to many different things in life :) not just one or two
Yes, exactly. And the middle melodic guitar section (of the song) represents the high from the drug, only to return to the chaotic crash. What's amazing is that these guys wrote and composed this song in their late teens.
My mom was a drug addict the first 16 years of my life, she always made sure I understood the drug connotations of alot of this music. It was her master, and she broke free to raise my little brother but always fought the call to go back until she died. You're so right about drugs.
even the music tells the story...the first melodic interlude with the guitars tells the story of a user who first does drugs, the "fantasy", the good feelings...but the second guitar after "Fix Me" shows when the drugs take over and the "dream" is lost...it's erratic, irrational, ugly, deadly...this song is an absolute masterpiece of composition.

When I was growing up in the 80’s, our music was either labeled as satanic, drug ridden and just violent. Much of the time the lyrics were deep with hard meanings. I am so excited watching you hear what we heard then. Keep it up, I love you guys and your genuine reactions. Understand that the transitions in the music is also a depiction of the stages of someone on drugs. The rage and need (when it’s heavy and angry) high and happy (during the slow melodic transition) then the need for more as it Reagan’s the momentum.
One of the best things about Metallica is that they've got such a variety of sounds...Nothing Else Matters, Hero of the Day, maybe The Memory Remains would probably be a bit more approachable. THEN you get into shit like the cover of So What. ha
Exactly, such a kid that girl...music is about instruments and meanings and this music has it all, she just got to give it a chance and try to enjoy it like it is, a masterpiece!
"This a long ass song" *laughs in prog* *laughs in classical* Jokes aside, its good to see people expose themselves to something different. The imagery is supposed to be shocking because the reality of drugs is just that and the same goes for many of their music topics. Keep listening, even if you don't "like" at least you tried to understand it.
Its actually a common misconception that its about coke. It is really about heroin. The lyrics "needle work the way" and "chop your breakfast on a mirror" show that it heroin. Back in the 80s, nobody used to shoot coke. Heroin was the one of the only drugs people used to shoot.
I love seeing a younger generation experience this music. If you listen closely, and put yourself in the song, the part that slows down represents trying to get away from the drugs and them dragging you back in. Powerful stuff from a band people said we're devil worshipers
its upsetting lowkey seeing that the guy is SO so down with actually trying to enjoy and pay attention and she isnt even willing to give it a chance :/ lol I get its DEF new to her but it's so good just give it a chance like your man! haha

i've been listening to this album for DECADES, and i never knew this was about drugs... in fairness though, i sing a long, and headbang, but i never really 'listen' to the lyrics and their meaning... you guys, have made me appreciate this music i love, even more!
I can't believe no one said this earlier. That's exactly what the interlude is about, the bliss of a fix. Then the same exact progression is played again but with distortion, ie your world is coming down as you go into withdrawal. This song is a masterpiece 🤘
I've had people listen to this for the first time. They would say they liked it! Had them listen to it again, then explain the interlude...... HEAD EXPLOIDS.....
This might be the best reaction ever. The genuine dislike of the music and fear in Rheasia's eyes is a great perspective, but to see Chris coming around and having a straight up awakening is just too much. I actually cried watching this. As a 46 year old man with a family, I can't tell you how many tough times this musice helped me through while I was growing up. Thanks for keeping it real once again!
Again, I am impressed by your open minds. It's great that you really went after the lyrics on this one because they are so critical to the effect of the song.

"People like this", no, dear, this is life for a lot of people. It speaks to so many people on so many different levels. I know, I'm watching it late to your reaction and you've gotten the breakdown of the whole song and Metallica...Metal is a feeling. Metal is soul. You don't love it, you don't hate it. You FEEL it. Metallica is a good example. To build off of that, Ronnie James Dio, with Black Sabbath and solo. Iron Maiden. Judas Priest.
The transition from the fast to the slow back to the fast represents the high of drugs, the low, and your desire to get back to the high. The control it has over you.
The both of you are too damn cute, I love watching you both breaking down music that would otherwise be off your radar. Rheasia seems scared of this song. I give her props for making it through the whole song. It's amazing how Chris try's to get her to see the truth of the song and honestly feel the music from the artist perspective. You both rock!!! Brilliant way to communicate that with only instruments, then come the lyrics where the master deceived you and did not give you the dreams that you were after.
I'm glad you watched the lyrics video and really tried to understand what the song was about. Even though it was a totally different genre than you are used too. Jokes aside, its good to see people expose themselves to something different. The imagery is supposed to be shocking because the reality of drugs is just that and the same goes for many of their music topics. Keep listening, even if you don't "like" at least you tried to understand it.
The song is crafted like taking the drug. The soft part is the high and it comes back very hard when you jones for the coke.
Its actually a common misconception that its about coke. It is really about heroin. The lyrics "needle work the way" and "chop your breakfast on a mirror" show that it heroin. Back in the 80s, nobody used to shoot coke. Heroin was the one of the only drugs people used to shoot.
Coke is crazy
Some times it feels like killing your self when high..
I love seeing a younger generation experience this music. If you listen closely, and put yourself in the song, the part that slows down represents trying to get away from the drugs and them dragging you back in. Powerful stuff from a band people said we're devil worshipers
its upsetting lowkey seeing that the guy is SO so down with actually trying to enjoy and pay attention and she isnt even willing to give it a chance :/ lol I get its DEF new to her but it's so good just give it a chance like your man! haha
Yes i was thinking that , she was just waiting for it to finish asap you could see in her face she wasnt enjoying it :/
@Gore4ever FulciLives 😂😂😂
@Gore4ever FulciLives shut the fuck up
@@briarhaven01 It's not untrue...
@@Lost_n_Found_1 its not untrue that "metal isn't for women"? Get fucking real. There's a ridiculous amount of women who rock just as hard if not harder than men. Think of all the badass metal bands with female leads. Or all of the insane shows I've been to with girls hitting the pit just as hard as dudes. Being a metalhead doesn't mean you also have to be a sexist p.o.s.
Chris is lit and hip to this shit!! Love to see a perceptive mind.
Yup
Dude, I was leaning in so hard when you guys were working out it was about drugs. Well done. This song is hands-down one of the biggest metal songs in history. Glad to see you guys cover it. Keep it up!
his energy and open mindedness is what i’m talking about!! keep up the reactions! if you haven’t done Pneuma by Tool you guys definitely should
This bloke is a legend. How he describes things.
Guys, just seen this and utterly LOVE it!!! Long time Metallica fan, but seeing your reaction as you realise what the song is about is priceless!! Literally one of my all time favourite UA-cam videos. You do Metallica (and fans) proud. Amazing stuff - thank you!!!!
Imagine being a heavy metal band in the 80's and touring with other bands. They saw first hand what hard core drugs did
Yeah, in the mirror.
This is really wholesome. Seeing these reactions, it reminds me of how I wilded the fuck out when I got this cassette when I was a teenager. Shows that people of all cultures are really the fucking same when you strip away all the bullshit and we should all respect each other.
i've been listening to this album for DECADES, and i never knew this was about drugs...
in fairness though, i sing a long, and headbang, but i never really 'listen' to the lyrics and their meaning...
you guys, have made me appreciate this music i love, even more!
That middle section is when the drug takes hold and you're high, then it gets rougher as you feel withdrawal.
You were two of the fastest reactors to understand the song, congrats!
Btw, notice how tired you got bopping around to this? Imagine playing that night every night.
Again, I am impressed by your open minds. It's great that you really went after the lyrics on this one because they are so critical to the effect of the song.
she'll like nothing else matters and the day that never comes
She never cared what he said
80's parents: Don't listen to that devil music!
Metallica: Don't do drugs.
i never would have thought i would like metal tbh just like y’all. but metallica legit changed my life and perspective on music please do more i’m telling y’all..
Fade to black, you won’t regret it
Very accurate interpretation of the lyrics.
It was refreshing to see you guys understand the whole message and it was an honest reaction.
Respect
So cool he figured this shit out like that. No one ever does
That's because we were high as hell
Try ONE, Creaping Death...it's a Bible story, disposable Heroes, unforgiven, fade to Black, blackened, nothing else matters
official music video for One also look into the back story for the song hits a lot different when you know the meaning behind it
Steven McNutt Solid picks!
One would break them in a little more..
Terry Bryant its better than one
"People like this", no, dear, this is life for a lot of people. It speaks to so many people on so many different levels. I know, I'm watching it late to your reaction and you've gotten the breakdown of the whole song and Metallica...Metal is a feeling. Metal is soul. You don't love it, you don't hate it. You FEEL it. Metallica is a good example. To build off of that, Ronnie James Dio, with Black Sabbath and solo. Iron Maiden. Judas Priest.
AMEN!!!!!!
Love how she blatantly says "crack". Lmao.
First honest reaction I've seen to this song in a long time; love it!
The transition from the fast to the slow back to the fast represents the high of drugs, the low, and your desire to get back to the high. The control it has over you.
Try "nothing else matters" next, the girl will like that much better.
Agree 👍👍👍
Me to me wife: he's so close! When the mirror line hits...
My wife: what?
My man: 🤯🤯🤯
Me: 😎
Wife: 🙄
EXCELLENT job good people! As an old school Metallica fan, I really appreciate you guys hangin in and givin it appropriate props
As a metal and hip hop head, this made my day. Fkn thank y'all for this
Some people: "metal is the devils music"
The devil's trill: "am I a joke to you?"
Blues in the background lifts it's head
Tartini fans wya
You actually get it! I love y’all ❤️
I love how things are clicking in Chris's mind with every verse.
New fan & follower here. I've watched and liked several videos of the both of you reacting to music that is out of your comfort zone. You guys should listen to some of Beth Heart 💘
5:50 i love seeing people connect the dots! 🎉🎉🎉
"Chop your breakfast on a mirror"
You've been up all night doing coke. You never went to sleep. The next morning everyone else is having breakfast and your still getting high.
To me it means chopping a line when you wake up; because your addiction is a part of your identity.
@@movietimeateds69 you're right. For too long a time, I used cocaine like coffee. It's not as bad as everyone says, it won't instantly ruin your life, but that's the problem. The slide in can be so smooth and slow you don't realize you're caught till it's too late
@@destynhepworth5293 its fun until it becomes its not. That song expresses that beautifully.
@@destynhepworth5293 that's why I like shrooms. Theyre non addictive and can drastically improve mental health and clarity. Basically the opposite of most other drugs.
@@movietimeateds69 Shrooms BEST DRUG
Weed #2. LSD #3.
The guy is really smart, I'm appreaciating this!
Y'all are great, love the energy you put in. When you caught the meaning of the song, that shit was amazing
That smooth part was to signifying what your feeling when your high.
haha, i loved your reaction when you realized its about drugs! at 10.00 when the song slows down its like you just shot up and you are all relaxed, and then slowly it picks up steering you towards your next fix. Brilliant way to communicate that with only instruments, then come the lyrics where the master deceived you and did not give you the dreams that you were after.
“You might get an ear to it”.....gift to all. I’ve done the same on the flip side. Appreciate you two. Love and peace ❤️
I'm glad you watched the lyrics video and really tried to understand what the song was about. Even though it was a totally different genre than you are used too. Stepping outside your comfort zone is dope. I'll second the request for Metallica, "One". Just don't do the official video, find another lyrics version. The official video has a movie cut into it that has thrown many reactors off. If you don't know why they chose that movie footage and the story behind it, you can get confused. New subscriber here. Looking forward to your next reaction.
Very sound advice.
Why she so close minded just cause it’s metal? Metallica is fire 🔥
She starts to like it after a few Met reactions
She has a preconceived notion of metal so it's a tough start. In her defense, bands themselves often times put people off by going over the top with the dark image. I grew up in a religious family, so I know what it's like. It's a slow process for someone to have an open mind and listen to the lyrics without being creeped out. Fortunately, nothing about Metallica is overtly related to the occult. Can't say the same for all metal bands though.
I hate rap so it's a cultural thing...lol
My friend is really into jazz.so much of it just leaves me bored and irritated. You don't have to love or enjoy all music.
Yea I can't blame her, I can't stand rap myself I think it's boring and talentless but alot of people would disagree.
“Hell worth all that, natrual habitat.” Basically saying a drug addicts willingness to continue to going through the same hell of withdrawls and well the seediness of trying to get your next hit or being surrounded by the bad stuff associated with drugs.
I absolutely love these 2! Watch everyone one of their reactions and yea, I love them!!
